Can't Possibly Fall for My Wife Again After Rebirth, Right? - Chapter 51
Xu Yingran’s kiss came so suddenly that Fu Qiao was kissed squarely before she could even react.
The other’s flexible tongue raided Fu Qiao’s mouth, entwining with hers and licking the roof of her mouth.
Fu Qiao’s mind was blank at first. It took two or three seconds for her to react, and she struggled to push the person in front of her away.
“Xu… mgh… Xu Yingran…”
Fu Qiao had never kissed anyone, let alone a kiss like this that felt as if she were being devoured. She felt as though the oxygen in her lungs was being sucked away by this person.
Her wrists were held tightly by Xu Yingran. Xu Yingran pinned her against the wall and kissed her, making it impossible for her to evade no matter how she struggled.
Toward the end, Xu Yingran even pinched Fu Qiao’s chin, forcing her to open her mouth wide.
“Mgh… mgh!”
Fu Qiao had never been kissed like this before. She felt her heart race and her head spin. Aside from her initial subconscious resistance, she now felt a tingling sensation surging up her spine, making her increasingly submissive; her strength to struggle gradually diminished.
When Xu Yingran finally released Fu Qiao’s mouth, she saw her leaning against the wall, the corners of her eyes flushed crimson. Her rosy, slightly swollen lips were parted, and with the heavy heaving of her chest, traces of moisture could be seen at the corner of her mouth.
Fu Qiao was completely dazed by the kiss.
She had only ever seen people touch lips on TV and thought that was what a so-called kiss was. She hadn’t expected Xu Yingran to thrust her tongue into her mouth; the two of them had definitely just exchanged saliva.
Yet, strangely, Fu Qiao didn’t feel disgusted.
If anyone else had kissed her like this, she would have certainly caused a scene. But Xu Yingran kissing her like this…
Why did Xu Yingran kiss her? And why was her technique so good?
Fu Qiao leaned against the wall to steady her emotions. The previously tense atmosphere had suddenly changed flavor. She didn’t dare look into Xu Yingran’s eyes, turning her head and slightly biting her lip.
Watching Fu Qiao bite her red lips with her white teeth, Xu Yingran felt her blood surge. She couldn’t help but lean in again, pinning the other against the wall.
Fu Qiao frowned slightly. She shot Xu Yingran a glare and said, “Stop squeezing me, okay? The alley is so wide, do you have to press yourself against me?”
Xu Yingran stared at the person before her, resting her forehead against Fu Qiao’s. She held her wrists, leaving her nowhere to run.
“You!”
Just as Fu Qiao was about to speak, Xu Yingran kissed her a second time.
Without the panic of the first time, Xu Yingran’s second kiss gradually became gentle. She licked Fu Qiao’s teeth and lips, hooking her tongue around Fu Qiao’s hiding one, and the two kissed together once more.
Fu Qiao closed her eyes, feeling a burning heat all over her body. Her breathing became hurried, and her hands instinctively reached out to grab something. They were caught by Xu Yingran, their fingers interlocking.
It was unknown how long they kissed before Xu Yingran reluctantly left Fu Qiao’s lips. She spoke to her pleadingly, “Now do you believe that I like you?”
Fu Qiao’s face was flushed deep red; her brain was momentarily scrambled.
“I…”
“I know I’ve done many things wrong. I’ll strive to change in the future.” Xu Yingran held Fu Qiao’s hand tightly and said, “At the very least, the fact that I like you is something that will never change.”
Fu Qiao didn’t pay much attention to Xu Yingran’s heartfelt confession. She only felt that the strength of their interlocked fingers was as painful as an ancient finger-torture rack. The pain made Fu Qiao’s head a mess.
“Let go,” Fu Qiao said.
“No,” Xu Yingran said seriously. “If I let go, won’t you run away? I won’t let go.”
Fu Qiao glared at her and said angrily, “You’re squeezing me so hard it hurts! Let go quickly!”
Xu Yingran froze. Only then did she realize what Fu Qiao meant. She hurriedly let go and massaged each of Fu Qiao’s fingers, saying apologetically, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to use so much force. Does it still hurt?”
Fu Qiao couldn’t be bothered with her and snatched her hand back.
Xu Yingran knew from her expression that she hadn’t been forgiven. Just as she was about to press the other against the wall for another kiss, a familiar voice came from the entrance of the alley.
“Eh?” Zhao Yu and Xu Chunjian were returning from buying groceries. Seeing the two people hidden in the alley, Zhao Yu said, “Ranran? What are you two doing in the alley?”
Fu Qiao’s face went ‘boom’ as it turned red.
How could she have forgotten that they were kissing in an alleyway at a busy street corner? The street was full of acquaintances; what if someone saw them?!
Xu Yingran was also startled. Looking at her parents, she felt for the first time like she had been caught in a “puppy love” affair, and her heart tightened instantly.
Fu Qiao shook off Xu Yingran and walked out of the alley. She greeted Zhao Yu and Xu Chunjian before turning to leave. Xu Chunjian spoke up: “Xiao Qiao, why don’t you stay for dinner at our house? Ranran’s mom is stewing chicken soup today. Isn’t that your favorite?”
“Yes,” Zhao Yu added. “Your move was so sudden, we haven’t had a proper meal together. Stay and have a meal at our home today.”
Xu Yingran also looked at Fu Qiao expectantly, waiting for her answer.
Fu Qiao looked back at them and shook her head. “Thank you, Uncle and Auntie, but I have things to do today so I won’t be eating at your house. My parents will invite everyone to dinner another day.”
Seeing Fu Qiao about to leave, Xu Yingran hurriedly stepped forward to chase after her, but Fu Qiao shot her a glance and said, “Xu Yingran, you don’t need to walk me. I’ll take the bus back myself.”
After saying that, she ignored Xu Yingran’s expression and walked quickly toward the bus stop.
Though the distance was only a dozen meters, to Xu Yingran, it felt like an unbridgeable chasm, making her heart feel cold.
So, this was what it was like when Fu Qiao didn’t love someone.
Xu Yingran watched her disappear from sight, and her heart sank to the bottom.
During the morning self-study session on Monday, the class teacher, Li Yuwen, told everyone the news of Fu Qiao’s transfer.
Everyone expressed surprise because Fu Qiao had been a top student since her first year. Every time the class needed a representative, it was always one of those few people. Furthermore, it was already the third year of high school; a sudden transfer was truly unexpected.
But upon hearing that she was transferring to the provincial key high school, it started to seem reasonable.
“That’s the provincial key school,” one student sighed. “If Fu Qiao didn’t have such good grades, they probably wouldn’t have accepted her.”
“But isn’t everyone there a top student? At our school, Fu Qiao was at best second in the whole grade. Where will she rank over there?”
“Maybe in the top 50?”
“Only top 50?”
“That’s the top 50 of the provincial key school. They produced the provincial Zhuangyuan (top scorer) last year. It’s the best high school in our city.”
“That may be true, but I’m still going to miss Fu Qiao. She didn’t even tell us; she’s too much.”
“Yeah.”
Several chatting students suddenly turned to look at Xu Yingran, who was sitting in her seat. They called out to her twice, “Xu Yingran, you should have known the news about Fu Qiao’s transfer, right? She didn’t tell us, but she surely told you, her childhood friend?”
Xu Yingran sat quietly in her chair, not even looking up.
Everyone found it strange. Yao Jin turned around and said, “Alright, stop rubbing it in. Fu Qiao didn’t even tell her about the transfer.”
“For real?” a student asked in surprise. “Isn’t your relationship the best? You’re inseparable every day. She didn’t tell you?”
Xu Yingran remained hunched over without saying a word. Realizing she was in a bad mood, the students nudged each other and left.
Once everyone was gone, Yao Jin leaned over and said to Xu Yingran, “Don’t blame them; they don’t know the situation between you and Fu Qiao.”
Xu Yingran wasn’t that petty; hearing this, she gave a slight nod.
Seeing Xu Yingran in this half-dead state, Yao Jin felt helpless. Sitting in the adjacent seat, she asked, “What do you plan to do? You’re just going to let Fu Qiao transfer like this? After this is the Gaokao and university; you might find it hard to even see each other in the future.”
This wasn’t alarmist talk. The third year was so busy, and after graduation, everyone would go to different universities across the country, only returning home during holidays. If they still lived in the same building, it would be fine, but now one lived in the east of the city and the other in the center. In the future, even during breaks, they wouldn’t be able to just meet up and hang out.
Xu Yingran thought in silence for a long time before looking up at Yao Jin. “A-Jin, do me a favor.”
Yao Jin tilted her head, signaling her to continue.
“I want to skip class,” Xu Yingran whispered to her. “Help me cover for it.”
At the same time, Fu Qiao had just finished her self-introduction on the podium. Looking at the forty-plus pairs of eyes staring at her from below, she felt an inexplicable chill down her spine.
The class teacher was a middle-aged woman who looked very stern. Her high hairline was groomed meticulously, and her black-framed glasses added to her serious aura. She was currently opening her lesson plan. Hearing no applause or talking in the classroom, she turned to Fu Qiao and said, “The last seat in the second row is empty. Sit there.”
Fu Qiao nodded and walked down from the podium.
The curiosity of the students in Class 7, Grade 12 toward this newcomer lasted only a few seconds. By the time Fu Qiao sat in her seat, no one was looking at her anymore.
The teacher turned and wiped Fu Qiao’s name off the blackboard, then began writing the contents of today’s lesson. Without the teacher needing to say anything, the students automatically began taking notes; not a single person spoke.
When the bell rang for the end of class, Fu Qiao saw that except for a few students going to the restroom, everyone else remained as quiet as they were during class, sitting in their chairs writing or drawing. Occasional conversations were brief and to the point. There weren’t even many people in the hallway. Whether it was during or after class, everyone was silent.
Going to the cafeteria for lunch, Fu Qiao sat with a few classmates and saw that they were either holding textbooks or silently reciting ancient poetry while eating. Even though it was a cafeteria, it felt more like a library to Fu Qiao.
Almost everyone had a textbook in their hands, and people walked through the campus in silence.
No one took a nap. After eating, they returned to start studying. Those reciting texts went to the hallway; those doing practice papers wore earplugs. Even though the teacher hadn’t assigned homework, they would still arrange their own practice papers and start working on problems.
On her first day at the new school, no one was curious about the newly transferred Fu Qiao. In fact, except for the few students nearby, no one was willing to speak to her.
Studying seemed to be the only thing that needed to be done at this key high school.
