Can't Hide My Love for You - Chapter 22.2
“Sister Cheng~~ Thanks for the afternoon tea!” A young singer waved, lifting a dessert box in her other hand. Through the transparent packaging, a slice of strawberry cream cake was visible.
“Huh?” Cheng Yixin froze. Since when had she bought afternoon tea for everyone?
At that moment, she spotted Siwen stepping out of a nearby office, carrying an identical bag. She immediately understood what was going on.
“Oh, you’re welcome,” she reacted quickly, smoothing over the confusion. “Good luck with your vocal practice.”
Once the singer had walked away, she turned to Chi Yi. “You treated the whole company to afternoon tea?”
When Chi Yi nodded, Yixin became even more puzzled. “Why did you say it was from me? You’re giving me all the credit.”
“I’m not familiar with them, and I don’t come here often. It doesn’t matter whose name is on the receipt.”
It seemed President Chi had mastered the art of “favors” perfectly.
Back in the lounge, Cheng Yixin began browsing through a row of clothes on the hangers. She stole a glance at Chi Yi, who was waiting on the sofa. Chi Yi was dressed in all white today, looking quite casual.
Yixin’s fingers paused as she picked out a black T-shirt and paired it with denim shorts. It was just a trip to the supermarket; comfort was the priority. After changing, she grabbed a pair of black-and-white sneakers from the shoe rack and slipped them on.
“Alright, let’s go.”
As she walked over, she caught a glimpse of Chi Yi’s phone screen. It was open to Weibo. “You use Weibo too?” Yixin asked, surprised.
Given that Chi Yi’s official account had fewer followers than Yixin’s fan count (before adding the “ten thousand” unit), and she never posted about her private life, Yixin had assumed Chi Yi didn’t use the app, let alone follow celebrity gossip.
“I check the trending searches occasionally,” Chi Yi said, pausing for a second. “I received a lot of @ mentions today, so I clicked in to take a look.”
“Ah, is it the Super Talk?” Cheng Yixin immediately remembered. “I saw it yesterday… the fans formed a CP Super Talk for us.”
“Is it this one?” Chi Yi handed the phone over. The very next post in the feed was a “solo fan” mocking them for not following each other back.
“The Super Talk is this one…” Cheng Yixin’s voice trailed off as she saw the post. She let out a dry, awkward laugh. Since she thought Chi Yi didn’t play on Weibo—and hadn’t seen a notification that Chi Yi followed her—it hadn’t occurred to her to initiate a follow. Seeing the mockery now made her feel a sudden pang of guilt.
“Let me see…”
She pulled out her own phone, intending to strike first by following Chi Yi and then “interrogating” Chi Yi as to why she hadn’t followed her back.
Her fingers flew across the screen as she searched for Chi Yi’s name and entered her homepage. She moved toward the “+ Follow” button, only to see the status already displayed as “Following You.”
This status only appeared when the other party had followed you first, but you hadn’t followed them back.
Cheng Yixin looked up cautiously at Chi Yi. For a moment, she thought she detected a trace of “resentment” in President Chi’s eyes.
At this moment, silence spoke louder than words.
