- Chapter 75 - Coercion and Compromise
“I, I can…”
Claude’s words were cut off by Mi Yue.
“Claude, you’re a good person, but if we stay, we’ll inevitably stand against Vasali. Could you really bring yourself to harm her? Would you punish her for our sake?”
From what she’d observed during this time, Claude was an excellent and dutiful older brother.
If she insisted on staying, the only one who would suffer was Claude.
“But, Mi Yue, I like you. I’m willing to help you rescue Xiu Ka. Please, don’t leave me, okay?” Claude finally voiced his feelings.
Mi Yue shook her head. “Vasali would never agree. This will only put you in a difficult position. Why bother?”
Claude reached out, pulling her into a tight embrace. “My feelings for you don’t require anyone’s approval. Wait for me. I will save Xiu Ka.”
Vasali had long anticipated Claude’s arrival. She stood coldly at the entrance of her stone house, watching her dear brother.
Without saying much, she allowed Claude to take Xiu Ka away.
Xiu Ka was deeply grateful. “Thank you…”
The smoothness of it all made Mi Yue suspicious, and rightly so. By nightfall, Xiu Ka’s body began to show alarming symptoms.
Excruciating pain wracked his entire being.
The physician diagnosed it as poisoning, and Mi Yue immediately suspected Vasali’s hand.
Seeing this, Claude turned and rushed straight to Vasali’s stone house.
He had to get the antidote, it was the only way to make Mi Yue stay.
“Vasali, hand over the antidote for Xiu Ka. What you’re doing is wrong.”
“Brother, your heart has already strayed. I won’t give you the antidote.”
Claude pleaded earnestly. “Vasali, listen to me. Give the antidote to your brother.”
Vasali sneered. “Xiu Ka’s life is in my hands now. Unless that little female is willing to trade her own life for his.”
A chill ran down Claude’s spine, but he knew his sister wouldn’t yield easily.
“Vasali, this will only make Xiu Ka hate you even more. What’s the point?”
A flicker of conflict flashed in Vasali’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by resentment.
“Let him hate me. I don’t care. I despise Mi Yue, as long as she dies, I’ll be happy.”
Claude looked at Vasali helplessly. She wasn’t like this before. How had she become so unrecognizable, all for the sake of a male? It was as if she was no longer the Vasali he knew.
Finally, he understood the meaning behind Mi Yue’s words.
An unquenchable fury burned in Mi Yue’s heart as she strode toward Vasali’s stone house.
Two beast servants guarded the entrance, but nothing could deter Mi Yue from barging in.
“Vasali, hand over the antidote.” Mi Yue’s face was dark as ink, leaving no room for sentiment.
Just moments ago, Xiu Ka had started vomiting blood again.
Vasali let out a cold laugh, her eyes filled with disdain and provocation.
“Antidote? Why would you think I’d give it to you? Don’t be naive.”
“Sala, seize her.” Vasali ordered the beast servant beside her.
Claude’s expression darkened. “Don’t you dare lay a hand on Mi Yue!”
But Sala was Vasali’s most loyal beast servant, he wouldn’t obey Claude.
At her command, Sala lunged forward, his form blurring into a shadow as he pounced toward Mi Yue.
Yet Mi Yue showed no trace of panic. With a single thought, she swiftly exchanged for the power of lightning with her system.
In the brightly lit stone chamber, a dazzling bolt of lightning streaked across the air, striking directly at the charging Sala.
Before Sala’s agonized scream could fully escape his throat, he was already engulfed by the violent force of the lightning, instantly reduced to a charred husk that collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
This scene left everyone present utterly stunned.
Vasali’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Claude furrowed his brows, his gaze shifting uneasily between Vasali and Mi Yue, his heart a turmoil of conflicting emotions.
Mi Yue gave Vasali no time to recover. Gripping her stun gun, she advanced step by step toward her.
“Hand over the antidote, or you’re next,” she said, her voice low and commanding, like a battle-hardened warrior.
Vasali’s face was pale, but she forced herself to remain composed.
“You think I’m afraid of you? You wouldn’t dare,” she sneered.
Mi Yue responded with a cold laugh, adjusting the stun gun to its lowest setting and aiming it at Vasali.
“Let’s test that. We’ll see if your mouth is tougher than my stun gun.”
With a light press of the trigger, a faint current instantly jolted Vasali.
Her body convulsed, her face growing even paler, but she clenched her teeth and refused to yield.
“You’ll never get the antidote from me.” she spat, her eyes filled with venom.
Mi Yue frowned slightly and gradually increased the stun gun’s intensity.
Each shock deepened Vasali’s suffering, yet she stubbornly refused to surrender the antidote.
Claude watched from the sidelines, torn between urgency and anguish. He knew Xiu Ka’s life hung by a thread, but he couldn’t bear to see Vasali in pain.
“Vasali, enough. Just give her the antidote.” Claude finally pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation and helplessness.
At his words, a flash of resentment crossed Vasali’s eyes.
“Brother, is this how you watch someone hurt your own sister? Everything I’ve done was for you.” she said, her voice laced with bitterness and madness.
Claude’s heart ached.
“Vasali, wake up. Xiu Ka is innocent, and you shouldn’t take your hatred out on Mi Yue.”
But Vasali was beyond reason now.
Her eyes held only hatred for Mi Yue and disappointment in Claude.
“Innocent? If she were innocent, you wouldn’t have fallen for her. You wouldn’t have betrayed me for her.” she shrieked, her voice hysterical.
Seeing this, Mi Yue knew she couldn’t delay any longer.
She turned the stun gun to its highest setting, the crackling sound ominous as she issued her final warning.
“Vasali, this is your last chance. Hand over the antidote, or I’ll make you suffer even worse.”
Fear finally overtook Vasali. Trembling, she pulled a delicate vial from her robes and flung it at Mi Yue.
“Here’s your antidote. Take it.” she muttered, her voice thick with despair and resentment.
Mi Yue caught the vial without another glance at Vasali and turned to leave.
Claude watched her retreating figure, his heart heavy with sorrow. He knew he couldn’t make her stay.
“Vasali, are you alright?” Claude moved to support her, but she shoved him away.
“Hahaha! Does she think she’s won? Let me tell you, that antidote only lasts three days. After that, Xiu Ka will still die from the poison!”
Claude’s face drained of color, and he hurriedly turned to leave.
On the other side, Mi Yue had already returned to Xiu Ka’s side.
She carefully administered the antidote to Xiu Ka, watching as his symptoms gradually improved, finally allowing herself to breathe a sigh of relief.
However, when she heard from Claude that the antidote only had a three-day effect, her anger flared up once again.
“Vasali, how dare she do this.”
