- Chapter 54 - Xiu Ka Won't Survive
“Lord Xing Chi, please release Ma Qi. Don’t harm him.”
Xing Chi looked up and saw Ya Ge standing before him.
“Big brother!”
Ma Qi, seeing his elder brother arrive, was on the verge of tears in his desperation.
“Lord Xing Chi, let’s discuss this calmly. You mustn’t hurt my brother.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t harm your brother, for now. Go back and tell Bu Tai that if he wants Ma Qi back, he must trade him for Xiu Ka. Otherwise, there’s nothing to discuss.”
“If he refuses, your beloved Ma Qi won’t live to see another day.”
Hearing Xing Chi’s words, Ya Ge shuddered.
How could Xing Chi be so cold-hearted as to target young Ma Qi?
“Alright, alright! Lord Xing Chi, please wait. I’ll go tell my father right away. Just don’t hurt Ma Qi!”
“Then why aren’t you leaving?”
Ya Ge immediately turned and ran.
He rushed back to the stone house in the shortest time possible, nearly collapsing from exhaustion.
“What’s wrong, Ya Ge? Why are you in such a hurry?” Bu Tai asked upon seeing him.
“Father, it’s bad! Ma Qi and I were out hunting when Lord Xing Chi suddenly appeared and took Ma Qi captive!”
“He… he demands you trade Xiu Ka for Ma Qi, or else Ma Qi will die!”
Ya Ge summarized the situation as briefly as he could. After hearing it, Bu Tai slumped into his chair, utterly drained.
“Ruined.”
“All our hard work, gone to waste.”
Bu Tai sighed deeply. There was no way he could let anything happen to Ma Qi.
Ma Qi was his most promising son, he couldn’t afford to lose him.
“Bring Xiu Ka out. If they want him, they can have him.”
Since Xiu Ka had stubbornly refused to cooperate, Bu Tai had withheld the antidote from him.
If Xiu Ka didn’t take the antidote by tonight, he would surely die. Either way, he was a dead man, might as well use him to get Ma Qi back.
Bu Tai ordered Ya Ge’s brothers to bring Xiu Ka out, and the group set off for the forest where Ma Qi had been captured.
Not only them, but even Wu Er followed along.
“Where is Ma Qi? If I don’t see him, I won’t release Xiu Ka.”
As soon as Bu Tai finished speaking, Mi Yue stepped out from behind a large tree.
Beside her stood Xing Chi, who held Ma Qi tightly bound with vines.
“Xing Chi, release Ma Qi. I’ve brought the person you asked for.”
Seeing Ma Qi in captivity, Bu Tai’s heart ached.
“You release Xiu Ka first.” Mi Yue said.
“No, you release Ma Qi first.”
The two sides stood at an impasse, neither daring to act first.
After a few seconds of thought, Mi Yue spoke again.
“Fine, Bu Tai. Since you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you, let’s count to three and release them together.”
“Of course, you’re well aware of Xing Chi’s strength. If you try anything underhanded, your beloved Ma Qi will die right before your eyes.”
Mi Yue smiled, sending a chill down Bu Tai’s spine. He had indeed been considering some tricks, but now he didn’t dare gamble with Ma Qi’s life.
“Fine, I agree.”
“One.”
“Two.”
“Three.”
Xing Chi released his grip on Ma Qi.
At the same time, Ya Ge, who had been restraining Xiu Ka, let go. Xiu Ka struggled forward, making his way toward Mi Yue.
He had been tortured in prison, and taking just a few steps had already drained all his strength.
Ma Qi hadn’t suffered much harm, aside from being knocked down by Xing Chi, which still left him feeling sore, everything else was normal.
Xing Chi released him, and he immediately ran toward Bu Tai’s direction, wiping tears and sobbing uncontrollably as he ran.
“Let’s go, we should head back first.”
Seeing Ma Qi’s tearful expression, Bu Tai’s heart ached terribly. To avoid further complications, he could only carry Ma Qi and leave first.
After all, Xiu Ka was already beyond saving, there was no need for him to do anything more.
Once Bu Tai and his group had left, Mi Yue hurried to examine Xiu Ka’s injuries.
The wounds on Xiu Ka’s back were gruesome, flesh torn open, blood and pus oozing out, and Mi Yue was furious at the sight.
Xing Chi, too, was shocked that a father could be so cruel to his own son.
“Damn Bu Tai! We shouldn’t have let him leave so easily!”
Mi Yue took out gauze to clean and bandage Xiu Ka’s wounds. His face was pale, devoid of any expression.
Her hands were stained with Xiu Ka’s blood, yet tears fell from her eyes, one after another.
“Idiot… you big idiot. How could you just let them treat you like this?”
“Why didn’t you just agree with him? It’s just forming a partnership, it’s not like you’d lose a piece of flesh. You could’ve just played along for now.” Forming a partnership didn’t mean it couldn’t be dissolved later.
Her voice trembled with sobs, tears falling like broken strings of pearls.
Xiu Ka felt something warm land on him and struggled to lift his head, only to see the little female crying.
Slowly, he raised his hand and wiped the tears from Mi Yue’s face.
“Yue… because I love you, I can’t tolerate anyone else. Not even as a lie.”
Mi Yue angrily punched his shoulder. How could he be spouting such sentimental confessions at a time like this?
“Yue, we need to leave quickly. If Bu Tai comes back or schemes against us in secret, it’ll be trouble,” Xing Chi reminded in a low voice.
“Alright, I’m almost done.”
Mi Yue worked faster and soon finished treating the wounds on Xiu Ka’s back.
However, with limited resources, she could only clean the wounds temporarily and wrap them in gauze.
Xing Chi helped Xiu Ka up, and the three began making their way through the forest.
They hadn’t gone far when they came across a clearing surrounded by crude thatched huts.
A beast tribe had settled here.
Xing Chi sniffed the air. “It’s the scent of tiger beasts.”
“Xiu Ka is a tiger beast. The scent here can mask his presence, making it harder for Bu Tai to track him.”
“Good. Let’s ask if we can stay temporarily until Xiu Ka’s wounds heal.”
Xing Chi approached the tribe’s entrance, intending to speak with the two guarding males.
But before he could get close, one of the guards rushed inside in a hurry.
Xing Chi and Mi Yue exchanged confused glances, hesitating to enter.
After about five minutes, a middle-aged male with graying hair led several younger males toward them.
Mi Yue took a closer look, what a coincidence.
She recognized the male before her. Wasn’t he the chief of the tiger tribe she had originally belonged to?
“Shaman Yue… and Xiu Ka? Is that you?”
The tiger tribe chief had rushed over upon hearing that a blue-ranked male had arrived at their gates. He never expected to see Xiu Ka and Shaman Yue.
Before Mi Yue could speak, the Tiger Clan chief noticed Xing Chi standing beside her.
So, it was true, a Blue-level warrior. When had Shaman Yue gained such a powerful male companion, and one who seemed so close to her?
“You’ve finally returned! Hurry back to the tribe, our people have been eagerly awaiting your homecoming.”
“I was deeply worried when you disappeared before. Now that you’re back, my heart is at ease.”
The Tiger Clan chief’s attitude did a complete about-face, his shift in demeanor as swift as flipping a page. Mi Yue swallowed the words she’d been about to say.
Though she had no desire to be entangled with the Tiger Clan again, staying was now necessary to conceal Xiu Ka’s presence.
