- Chapter 51 - Have We Grown So Distant That You Won’t Even Invite Me In Anymore?
“Grandfather, hold on tight. We need to pick up the pace.”
Wu Er’s thin but strong hand gripped Xiu Ka’s arm firmly. “Alright, I understand.”
Xiu Ka nodded and sprinted ahead, pulling Wu Er along, trailing just two steps behind Xing Chi and the others.
“Wait, Xing Chi, I can’t go on. My stomach hurts so badly…”
Mi Yue suddenly felt a sharp, wrenching pain in her abdomen, so intense that she couldn’t straighten up.
Forced to stop, Xing Chi immediately crouched down to check on her.
“What’s wrong? Why the sudden pain?”
Anxiety gnawed at him as he glanced back, the bounty hunters were closing in, and now Mi Yue was in agony. What were they supposed to do?
Xing Chi placed a hand on her stomach, and the realization hit him like a bolt, Mi Yue is pregnant.
And she is about to give birth.
The gestation period of sea creatures was unpredictable and irregular. He hadn’t expected that after just one mating session, Mi Yue would be ready to deliver within a month.
At this critical moment, of all times!
The frantic escape had taken its toll, and now the exertion had triggered her labor.
“Mi Yue, what’s wrong? Can you still move? The bounty hunters are almost here.”
Xiu Ka caught up and knelt beside her, only to find her drenched in cold sweat from the pain.
“Mi Yue’s pregnant. The pain means she’s going into labor.”
Xing Chi forced himself to stay calm and think. He looked back, the bounty hunters were dangerously close.
The news that Mi Yue is about to give birth sent Xiu Ka’s mind reeling.
But there was no time to dwell on it. The hunters wouldn’t spare them a second.
“I’ll lure them away. You take care of Mi Yue. They’re after me anyway, they’ll chase me first.”
“Xiu Ka, I’m coming with you. It’s not safe for you alone.”
Wu Er followed Xiu Ka without hesitation, joining him in diverting the hunters.
Just as expected, the moment Xiu Ka and Wu Er veered off in another direction, the bounty hunters abandoned Mi Yue and Xing Chi, giving chase to the other two instead.
With the hunters gone, Mi Yue gritted her teeth through the pain and led Xing Chi back to the modern hillside villa.
There was no way she could deliver in the middle of the forest, and since she was carrying Xing Chi’s offspring, she needed water.
Exhausted and weak, Mi Yue could barely move. Xing Chi lifted her into the bathtub and filled it with cool water.
“Hold on, Mi Yue. It’ll be over soon. Just a little longer.”
Xing Chi gripped her hand tightly, offering reassurance while monitoring her labor.
Mi Yue knew she couldn’t rest now, the babies had to come out immediately, or they risked suffocating inside her.
“Ah, it hurts so much…”
She pushed with all her strength, feeling something slip free from her body.
One, two…
Ten little sharks in total, swimming happily in the bathtub.
Once the last one was born, Mi Yue collapsed against the tub, gasping for breath.
[Congratulations, Host! Golden points acquired. Virtue Points +50.]
[Received 20 Gratitude Points and 40 Virtue Points from the Great Sea Shark Xing Chi.]
[Current Gratitude Value: 45 points. Virtue Points: 125 points.]
[Host, you can now exchange for one year of lifespan. Would you like to proceed?]
The system’s voice echoed in her mind. Mi Yue gasped for breath, though the baby sharks were small, they had nearly cost her, her life.
Giving birth was excruciatingly painful, even for animal offspring.
Mi Yue first exchanged for a year of lifespan, then used her gratitude points to enhance her physical condition. Soon, she felt her strength returning.
“Yue, we have ten baby sharks in total.” Though they were a bit small, with careful nurturing, they would all grow strong.
Xing Chi was so overwhelmed he didn’t know what to say as he watched the ten tiny sharks swimming around in the bathtub.
When he didn’t get a response from Mi Yue, he turned to look at her and saw her face was deathly pale, almost completely drained.
“You’re exhausted. Let me take you to rest first.”
With that, Xing Chi lifted Mi Yue out of the bathtub, dried her off with a towel, and gently laid her on the soft bed.
“Just rest now. I’ll take care of the babies.” He stroked her head soothingly, whispering comforting words.
“Xing Chi, I’m worried about Xiu Ka. With so many bounty hunters after him, he might be in real danger.”
“Don’t worry. Bu Tai wants to capture him alive just to hand him over to that female. He won’t harm him,” Xing Chi reassured her.
Mi Yue took out her phone and checked Xiu Ka’s vital signs, everything was normal, confirming he wasn’t under any immediate threat. Only then did she relax.
“You’re already exhausted. Don’t overthink things. Just rest now.”
Xing Chi murmured a few more comforting words until Mi Yue finally closed her eyes and drifted into a deep sleep.
She slept straight through until the next day, jolting awake in alarm.
Bolting upright, she grabbed her phone and immediately tried to contact Xiu Ka. She had slept too long, what if something had happened to him overnight?
“Xiu Ka, are you okay? Are you and Grandpa safe?”
The moment she sent the message, she received a reply.
“Yue, I’m fine. We’re both safe.”
Only after reading his response did Mi Yue finally exhale in relief.
As long as they were unharmed, that was all that mattered.
Since she had just given birth, she wasn’t supposed to move around too much. She decided to stay in the modern world for two more days, resting in the hillside villa while watching over the baby sharks.
The tiny sharks swam energetically in the bathtub, though it was clearly too small for all ten of them.
Seeing this, Mi Yue asked Xing Chi to clean the swimming pool in the backyard and fill it with fresh water before transferring the baby sharks there.
The little sharks seemed to love the pool, darting around happily in the spacious water.
That night, the security captain was making his usual rounds when he noticed the lights were on in the hillside villa.
Lights on meant someone was inside.
He quickly snapped a photo and sent it to Li Xiangyang.
Li Xiangyang, who was still working overtime, lost all interest in work the moment he saw the photo. Grabbing his coat, he ordered a car to take him straight to the villa.
By the time he arrived, Mi Yue was still awake.
The doorbell rang, and she answered it promptly.
“Brother Xiangyang, it’s so late. What brings you here all of a sudden?”
Seeing Li Xiangyang standing at the door, Mi Yue was quite surprised. Why would he come to see her so late at night? Could something be the matter?
“Have you been away these past few days?” Li Xiangyang asked.
“Ah, away?”
Mi Yue didn’t react immediately. Had Li Xiangyang come looking for her these past few days only to find her absent?
“Yes, I’ve been away these past few days,” Mi Yue nodded in admission. She couldn’t very well say she had traveled through time, could she?
“What? Are you planning to chat with me right here at the door? Have we grown so distant that you won’t even invite me in anymore?”
“Or is it inconvenient?”
Only after Li Xiangyang said this did Mi Yue realize they were still standing at the doorway.
