- Chapter 18 - From Now On, That Moon Will Be Mine Alone
His cold hand gently caressed her pale, slender neck before tightening slightly.
As Mi Yue struggled to breathe, she pressed an electric stun gun against Xing Chi’s hand and gave him a jolt.
The shock wasn’t strong enough to cause serious harm, after all, she didn’t intend to kill him, only to teach him a lesson for his habit of laying hands on her without warning.
She had a feeling that Xing Chi’s gratitude points and virtue credits wouldn’t be easy to farm. No wonder the system had introduced a time-limited reward.
Damn, this was truly damn annoying!
Xing Chi felt a tingling numbness in his hand and caught a glimpse of a fleeting purple glow in the little female’s grasp.
What was that?
Seeing Mi Yue’s guarded expression, he didn’t press further.
Instead, he curled his lips into a smile, revealing a row of pearly white teeth. “Since I’ve taken a liking to you, you must become my mate.”
A domineering declaration, carrying the air of a tyrannical CEO.
Mi Yue ignored him, finding a large rock to sit on before turning her back to check her phone.
Xiu Ka: Shaman Yue, where have you gone?
Xiu Ka: Are you okay? Are you hurt?
Xiu Ka: Just say something, anything, so I know you’re safe. Please.
Xiu Ka: Yue~
Mi Yue was surprised to see the usually quiet Xiu Ka now spamming messages.
Her despondent mood even affected her health bar.
Xiu Ka’s eyes reddened as he knelt on the ground, hating his own helplessness for failing to protect the one he loved.
Mi Yue: Xiu Ka, I’m fine, don’t worry. I’ll be gone for a while longer.
The familiar voice echoed in his ears, and Xiu Ka looked around in delight, just like last time, Shaman Yue was nowhere in sight, yet he could hear her clearly.
Gazing ahead anxiously, he asked, “Is it that sea beast? Where is he taking you?”
Mi Yue was equally puzzled. “I don’t know, but he doesn’t seem intent on harming me. Once I find a chance to escape, I’ll regroup with you.”
“Xiu Ka, you must keep heading south. Only by going south will you survive. I’ll find you there.”
By the stream, Xing Chi dipped his feet into the water, shallow and murky, barely covering his toes.
Irritated, he flicked the water. It had been so long since he’d had a proper soak.
The water on land was too scarce and filthy to enjoy. Once he returned to the sea, he’d swim freely for three days and nights.
He’d craft the largest air sac for his little female and take her to explore the underwater world, his secret garden, the fiery coral reefs.
Turning his head, he glanced at the small figure curled up with her head buried in her knees, his brow furrowing.
Was she crying? Had he been too harsh? Or was she thinking about that tiger beast?
Too many thoughts flashed through his mind.
Agitated, he stood and strode toward Mi Yue.
“What are you doing?”
The deep male voice startled her, nearly causing her to drop her phone.
“What’s that thing? Why is it glowing?” Xing Chi stared curiously at the flickering light.
“Nothing. Do you need something?” Mi Yue replied flatly.
Seeing her deliberately hide things from him, Xing Chi felt a pang of disappointment. He pursed his lips. “I still don’t know your name. What is it?”
“That tiger beast called you Shaman Yue, so ‘Yue’ is your name, right?”
“Then from now on, I’ll call you Yue.”
Before Mi Yue could even open her mouth, Xing Chi had already rattled off a string of words.
“Yue, Yue. What a beautiful name. From now on, you’ll be my moon. Mine alone.”
The name that even the tiger beast had never called, now only he could say it, filled Xing Chi with immense joy.
A radiant smile spread across his face, the orange sunlight softening his otherwise intimidating aura.
But he was still a domineering, arrogant, and slightly cocky sea beast.
“Here, eat.” Xing Chi pulled out a dried fish the size of an arm from a palm-sized leather pouch.
Mi Yue stared at the unassuming pouch in surprise.
Noticing her adorable expression, Xing Chi explained, “This is a storage bag, made by a Saint Shaman in Hundred Beasts City. Ten crystal pearls each, and they can hold a lot of things.”
“Supposedly, the one worth a hundred crystal pearls can store a hundred prey. Not sure if it’s true, though.”
“What are crystal pearls?” She had never heard of them before.
“Crystal pearls are-”
Mid-sentence, Xing Chi suddenly pounced on Mi Yue, knocking her to the ground.
Mi Yue gasped, thinking he had suddenly succumbed to his beastly instincts. She was about to reach for her phone to teleport back to the modern world when his hand firmly pressed hers down.
“Don’t move. Someone’s attacking.”
Mi Yue turned her head and saw a gleaming fish spear embedded in the spot where she had just been sitting.
“Who wants to kill me?” She couldn’t recall offending anyone.
“Not you, me. Didn’t expect we’d have to live on the run right after getting together. Yue, are you scared?” Xing Chi smirked, seemingly unfazed by the pursuit.
“You’re not afraid of dying?” Mi Yue’s temple twitched in irritation.
“Tch, don’t worry. You’re my mate now. I’ll protect you.”
With that, he scooped her into his arms and dashed toward the nearby stream.
A shark’s speed was unmatched in water.
But if he could think of it, so could his pursuers.
Mi Yue watched in horror as another spear came flying from the opposite bank. “Xing Chi, watch out!”
Xing Chi’s icy blue eyes flashed with cold fury. He kicked the spear away and set Mi Yue down.
Gently ruffling her soft hair, he said, “Stay hidden. I’ll come back for you soon.”
“Xing Chi, you-”
“Be good. Don’t hold me back.”
Mi Yue pressed her lips together. He had a point, Xing Chi was a Blue-tier male, incredibly powerful. Who could possibly hurt him?
So, she crouched behind a large boulder, gripping her stun gun in one hand and a tiger-tooth dagger in the other, quietly observing the fight.
Outside, several males leaped out from the grass. Though not Blue-tier, they were still Green-tier, no pushovers.
Three males armed with fish spears charged at Xing Chi. With their weapons, they managed to hold their own against him for a while.
The sharp spears glinted menacingly under the sunlight.
Mi Yue’s heart pounded as she watched.
“System, I want to exchange for Lightning Power.”
[Target of Care: Xiu Ka is not in mortal danger. Exchange failed.]
[Target of Care: Xing Chi is not in mortal danger. Exchange failed.]
Mi Yue: “…”
“So I can only use it if they’re about to die?”
“What if it’s too late by then? They’d be dead!”
[If the target of care dies, all system rewards will be revoked. Host, please take care of them diligently! Cherish life!]
Mi Yue was speechless. But on the bright side, this battle wouldn’t leave Xing Chi injured or in mortal danger.
That eased her mind a little. She settled in to watch the show.
Blue-tier strength was still blue-tier strength after all. Soon, the three males were forced into retreat.
One of the males narrowed his eyes slightly, twisting his wrist as he thrust his sharp fish spear toward Mi Yue, who was hiding behind a rock.
“Despicable!” Xing Chi’s eyes blazed with fury.
Only when he saw Mi Yue dodge the attack did he relax, but the distraction cost him, a fish spear grazed his abdomen, drawing blood.
Seizing the opportunity, the other two males lunged at Xing Chi. Clutching his bleeding wound, Xing Chi staggered backward toward the shore.
[Warning! Feeding target Xing Chi is in mortal danger! Host, please intervene immediately!]
Damn it!
“Exchange for Lightning Power!”
