- Chapter 16 - Shaman Yue is Captured by a Rogue Beast
The system’s sharp alarm drowned out whatever Li Xiangyang was saying, and Mi Yue could no longer focus on his words.
“I have something urgent to attend to. I have to go.”
With that, she grabbed her phone and hurried away.
Left behind, Li Xiangyang’s brows furrowed with a trace of gloom, his entire aura turning oppressive.
His assistant felt his heart sink halfway, were the CP he shipped about to break up?
The young mistress’s frantic demeanor clearly suggested she was rushing off to meet her boyfriend.
Cautiously, he spoke up, “Boss, should we send someone to follow the young mistress?”
Li Xiangyang raised a hand. “No need.”
“Back to the company!”
Meanwhile, Mi Yue’s hand had gone numb from her phone’s vibrations. There was no time to return home, so she ducked into a restroom stall and activated the teleportation.
…
On the Migration Path of the Tiger Tribe in the Beast World
At that moment, Xiu Ka was pinning a male to the ground, relentlessly pummeling him with punches aimed at his mouth.
The male tried to cry for help, but all that came out was blood.
The Tiger Tribe’s chief barked sharply, “What are you all standing around for? Separate them!”
The onlookers quickly stepped forward to pull Xiu Ka and the male apart.
“Xiu Ka, what did he do to make you go this far? If you can’t give a proper explanation, I will have to punish you.”
This outsider beast had repeatedly disrespected him. Now that Shaman Yue’s fate was unknown, this was the perfect opportunity to teach him a lesson about rules.
Xiu Ka’s gaze was icy, veins bulging on his neck. “Ask him!” The humiliating words were something he couldn’t bring himself to repeat.
The beaten male avoided eye contact. “I-I didn’t say anything! He attacked me out of nowhere!”
“In that case, Xiu Ka shall receive fifty lashes as punishment. Carry it out immediately.”
Outnumbered and with his grandfather, Wu Er, present, Xiu Ka had no choice but to endure the whip strikes raining down on him.
[Alert! Feeding target Xiu Ka is undergoing punishment! Host, please intervene immediately!]
The moment Mi Yue arrived, she heard the system’s warning. She frowned slightly. “So annoying. Shut up!”
Hiking up her skirt, she sprinted toward the Tiger Tribe’s resting area.
At the sight of Xiu Ka’s injuries, she instinctively opened her mouth to shout, “Sto-”
[Host, do not reveal your identity in front of the Tiger Tribe members.]
Mi Yue cursed under her breath. Watching as the whip, thick as a baby’s arm, was about to strike again, she had no choice but to spend money to avert disaster.
Just as the male raised the whip high for another brutal strike, an inexplicable tingling sensation surged through his body. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, Mi Yue rushed over and positioned herself in front of Xiu Ka, gripping a crackling stun gun in both hands.
The crowd recoiled in terror, scrambling behind rocks to avoid being struck by what they thought was divine lightning.
Mi Yue turned to check on Xiu Ka, only to be pulled into a tight embrace the moment she faced him.
“You’re back!” His voice was hoarse, his eyes bloodshot, and stubble had grown along his jawline.
Overwhelmed, he wrapped his arms around her, wishing he could cast aside all restraint and confess his true feelings.
His stubble scratched against Mi Yue’s face, causing her some discomfort.
Before she could push him away, he abruptly released her, shoving her back with unexpected force.
Mi Yue had no time to ponder Xiu Ka’s odd behavior. All she noticed was the fresh blood seeping from his back.
She moved to examine his wounds, but as soon as she took a step forward, Xiu Ka dodged her as if avoiding suspicion.
Mi Yue tilted her head, her beautiful eyes blinking lightly. (What’s going on? What’s the situation?)
(I just wanted to check your injuries.)
Xiu Ka’s hand, hanging at his side, clenched into a fist. His face was cold as he said, “I’m fine. It’s none of your concern.”
After saying this, he walked away to start a fire and roast meat.
(How strange. I wanted to treat his wounds, but he’s not happy about it.)
(He was the one who hugged me first. What’s with this attitude now?)
Before Mi Yue could figure it out, the Tiger Tribe’s chief slowly approached. “Shaman Yue, Xiu Ka struck first. As the chief, it’s only right that I punish him for his wrongdoing.”
“That’s right, Shaman Yue. You can’t shield Xiu Ka without principles. That would bring disaster upon our entire Tiger Tribe!” The chief’s son, Gai Ya, added with righteous indignation.
Mi Yue blinked.
Gai Ya pointed to the male beside him. “You, tell Shaman Yue why Xiu Ka attacked you.”
The male trembled, not daring to lift his head. “I-I didn’t do anything. Xiu Ka just came at me without warning…”
Mi Yue frowned. (This male looks shifty-eyed and untrustworthy. If Xiu Ka hit him, he probably deserved it.)
Not far away, Xiu Ka, who was turning the roasting meat, paused. Was this really how Shaman Yue saw him, unconditionally biased in his favor?
Who wouldn’t want such favoritism? But… could he afford it?
With Shaman Yue’s timid nature, could he withstand the ugly rumors and gossip?
He couldn’t bear to imagine the expression on his delicate face when faced with such venomous words.
He was like the bright moon in the sky, he didn’t dare, nor could he bear, to drag her down from his divine pedestal.
Xiu Ka’s expression, which had just begun to soften, quickly frosted over again, exuding an air of aloofness.
Mi Yue pressed the button on her stun gun, producing a crackling sound. “Zzzzt, zzzzt.”
The lying male’s legs nearly gave out from fear. “I-I lied! It was because I spoke disrespectfully of Shaman Yue that Xiu Ka got angry and hit me!”
“Shaman Yue, please forgive me! Spare me this once!” The male kowtowed repeatedly on the ground.
Mi Yue turned her gaze to the Tiger Tribe chief, her eyes cold and reproachful. (So, this is what you meant by Xiu Ka being at fault?)
The chief’s face darkened with embarrassment. “How dare you deceive me!” he barked. “Guards, give him twenty lashes to teach him a lesson!”
Gai Ya hadn’t expected the situation to take such a turn. His eyes darted around before he spoke again.
“Shaman Yue, where did you go last night?”
Mi Yue’s expression remained cool as she raised a finger and pointed to the sky.
“Did you receive a summons from the Beast God? What did He say?” The chief asked eagerly, but all he got was Mi Yue’s retreating back.
Mi Yue walked over to the tent, only to see Xiu Ka turn his back on her the moment he noticed her. Annoyance flickered in her heart.
But when she saw his health bar, still missing a chunk of HP, she left the medicine with Wu Er instead.
She pointed at Xiu Ka’s back wounds and mimed applying ointment. Wu Er watched, only half-understanding.
Spotting her suitcase nearby, Mi Yue dragged it away without another word.
Wu Er called out, “The meat’s almost ready. Stay and eat with us.”
Mi Yue shook her head. (No appetite for this.)
Even as she left, Xiu Ka didn’t say a word. Wu Er could only sigh.
He had thought it was just a minor conflict that would blow over by the next day. But two days, three days, then ten days passed, and the two still weren’t speaking.
Mi Yue continued to deliver food at the same time every day, but she no longer received any gratitude points.
But each time, she convinced herself that the food was for Wu Er, that she was simply doing a good deed by respecting the elderly and caring for the young.
Xiu Ka always prepared Mi Yue’s portion when cooking, but he never called him to eat. Even when Wu Er went to invite him, he always refused.
The atmosphere had been tense for a while, and Wu Er couldn’t help but feel anxious watching it all.
That evening, sitting by the campfire and gazing at his sullen grandson, he finally spoke up. “In this life, it’s rare to meet a true friend who treats you with sincerity. You must learn to cherish them.”
“Grandpa may not know what happened between you and Shaman Yue, but Xiu Ka, don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
Xiu Ka hesitated, about to speak, when suddenly a man’s panicked shout cut through the air.
“Bad news! The rogue beasts have taken Shaman Yue away!”
