Becoming the Comfort Alpha for the Aloof Movie Queen - Chapter 40.2
Ming Tanqing gave her a faint look, her fingers stroking the rim of her glass.
Cheng Yaru’s interest grew. “Do you need an autograph?”
Liang Ruojing’s eyes lit up. “Can I?”
Cheng Yaru’s eyes darted between the two. “Of course, a photo is fine too.”
Suddenly, a cold voice interrupted. “Sister Cheng, Sister Jiang is coming back soon.”
Jiang Nianwei, Cheng Yaru’s wife.
Cheng Yaru gave an “Oh my,” mentioning Jiang Nianwei but keeping her eyes on Ming Tanqing. “That’s a pity; someone won’t let me take a photo.”
Before Liang Ruojing could think too much about it, someone else came to toast Ming Tanqing. She smelled a bitter, woody fragrance—natural and fresh, reminiscent of forests and grasslands. The conversation behind her drifted into Liang Ruojing’s ears.
“Sister Ming! Long time no see.”
“Long time no see. How have you been lately?”
“Everything else is fine, but it’s especially bad without Sister Ming.”
Liang Ruojing was shook. Which Alpha was this, acting so spoiled toward Ming Tanqing?
“You haven’t needed me for a long time.”
“How could that be? Where is Sister Ming living now? I had something for you last month, but the property management said you hadn’t been back for a long time.”
Liang Ruojing didn’t hear the rest of the conversation clearly. She extracted one key piece of information: Sister Ming actually had a “home” other than the Villa. She never knew!
Thinking about it, it was normal. The Ming family was in the suburbs of Beijing, which was inconvenient for commuting. Moreover, Ming Tanqing had been in the industry for years; it was impossible for her to have only one property. The Villa must have been where she moved only after she got sick.
As Liang Ruojing thought, her face unknowingly darkened. Sister Ming had another home. Other people knew, but you didn’t.
It wasn’t that Liang Ruojing was petty. But when you’ve had temporary markings with someone one, two, three, four, five, six times, you naturally expect to know more about them.
Tang Yuecen asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Feeling unwell again? Is the smell here too mixed?”
Liang Ruojing nodded solemnly. “It’s very stinky.” Especially that herbal scent—it was the most unpleasant.
There was a cold food table in the center of the banquet hall. Liang Ruojing used the excuse of resting to sit there. Avoiding the crowd was a lie; keeping an eye on a certain lily-scented Omega was the truth. Her burning gaze could have scorched a hole in Ming Tanqing’s clothes.
Her phone “dinged” with her unique special notification sound.
Sister Ming: How much longer are you going to stare?
Liang Ruojing: Sister Ming, I have something to tell you.
Sister Ming: Now?
Liang Ruojing’s fingers paused, then she remembered the tone of the Alpha who had just acted spoiled toward Ming Tanqing. She decided to go for it!
Liang Ruojing: Yes, my gland feels uncomfortable.
Ming Tanqing raised an eyebrow, her gaze falling on the Alpha by the cold food table in the distance. To be honest, she couldn’t tell.
Sister Ming: Wait for me for a bit, about 20 minutes. Let’s meet on the terrace nearby.
Acting spoiled really worked! Liang Ruojing felt as if a new world had opened up to her.
Twenty minutes felt exceptionally long to Liang Ruojing. At that moment, someone from the Jiqiu crew suddenly arrived, shouting for their female lead to join them for a game. Liang Ruojing struggled for a bit but couldn’t refuse and was pulled to a drinking table.
Most of the Jiqiu team was there You Qian, Yang Jie even Lin Xiuzhu was present. At parties, most games involve drinking. Fortunately, Liang Ruojing was skilled and rarely lost.
You Qian stood up. “Let’s play something exciting. Other games are too easy to cheat at; let’s just do it randomly. Whoever the pen points to drinks.”
Liang Ruojing had a bad feeling. You Qian claimed she had a cold from filming in the winter and had taken cephalosporin before coming, so she couldn’t drink and volunteered to host. After several rounds, out of ten glasses of red wine, Liang Ruojing drank four. Her tolerance was decent, and the amount in each glass was small—only three sips. She wasn’t drunk, but being targeted felt disgusting.
You Qian was smiling. She loved the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry; her acting was mediocre, but she was an expert at partying and marketing. Another round ended, and the pen pointed at Liang Ruojing.
Yu Youyou sighed, “Xiao Jing’s luck is so good today
The other actors laughed along. No one noticed You Qian’s little trick. Even if they had, it wasn’t worth offending a veteran superstar over a lead actress of an upcoming drama.
Liang Ruojing finished the wine in front of her again. She had no heart for power struggles; all her attention was on the terrace. Was it almost twenty minutes?
This slight disregard overlapped with Han Jiahe in the drama. You Qian let out a cold laugh. Next
Lin Xiuzhu interrupted her. “Liang Ruojing, don’t forget you have a scene tomorrow.” It sounded like a reprimand, but it gave Liang Ruojing a way out.
Director Lin is right to scold me. Liang Ruojing stood up and left.
You Qian looked at Lin Xiuzhu, then at Liang Ruojing. A suspicion began to form in her mind.
Liang Ruojing successfully escaped and walked quickly toward the terrace. On the southernmost terrace, Ming Tanqing leaned alone, admiring the moon. Today happened to be the fifteenth; the moon was bright and the stars were sparse—truly a perfect time to count stars with someone you liked.
Liang Ruojing, afraid of keeping Ming Tanqing waiting, jogged toward the Omega’s silhouette. But at that moment, an interloper appeared. That grass-scented Alpha came back again, her eyes lighting up as she approached Ming Tanqing.
Liang Ruojing frowned and silently sped up. She had already crossed half the banquet hall.
Clatter!
Her skin felt cold. The pungent smell of alcohol evaporated into the air.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” The waiter was terrified and immediately apologized to the star. “Miss, I’m truly sorry! I didn’t see the way. I’ll pay for the dry cleaning; please, I’m so sorry!”
Her heart was torn between two sides. Liang Ruojing looked down; half a bottle of red wine had splashed onto her dress. Even on black fabric, it looked incredibly messy, not to mention the smell of alcohol.
“You…” Liang Ruojing saw the waiter’s trembling arms and sighed. “Forget it. I was walking too fast too; I can’t entirely blame you.”
The waiter: “Let me take you to change your clothes.”
Liang Ruojing looked at the terrace longingly once more. The crowd was heavy, separating her from Ming Tanqing. Hmph! If two hearts are meant for each other, they don’t need to be together every second. She could still share a bed with Ming Tanqing tonight. Besides, it wouldn’t be dignified to go to the meeting like this.
Liang Ruojing nodded and followed the waiter upstairs. Fortunately, the organizers had booked rooms in advance. Liang Ruojing called Huahua, asking her to bring a spare gown from the hotel.
The waiter was trembling, her head bowed low. “I’ll wait outside. Once you’ve changed, I’ll take the clothes for dry cleaning.”
Meanwhile, Ming Tanqing waited on the terrace and checked the time.
9:50 PM.
It was twenty minutes past their agreed time. Didn’t she say her gland was uncomfortable?
Cheng Yaru walked over, and seeing Ming Tanqing’s cold face, she couldn’t help teasing, “What? Your ‘perfume’ didn’t show up?”
Ming Tanqing glared at her friend. “I’m not waiting for anyone.”
“Why hasn’t your personality changed a bit after two years?” Cheng Yaru said to her, “She went upstairs; I saw her just now.”
Ming Tanqing: “Upstairs?”
Cheng Yaru reminded her, “The room numbers are registered at the front desk.”
Liang Ruojing took off her clothes and stepped under the warm stream of water. The red wine had also splashed onto her hair. Liang Ruojing tilted her face up, letting the warm water cover every inch of her skin. The scent-blocking patch on her nape had been removed.
A cool peppermint scent filled the small bathroom. Like a traveler in the desert, Liang Ruojing searched for that faint hint of lily fragrance. So fragrant… but not enough. It was hers. It clearly should have all been hers.
Soft water droplets flowed over Liang Ruojing’s body. She was soaking wet, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, long slender legs, and beautiful muscles on her abdomen. Liang Ruojing was immersed in the sea of lilies she had imagined, her mind filled with Ming Tanqing’s silhouette.
Then, there was a “click.” The bathroom door was pushed open.
God had heard Liang Ruojing’s wish. A hundredfold more intense lily fragrance blew in with the cold air, instantly dispersing the cocoon of peppermint liquor.
Mm!!
Liang Ruojing turned her head abruptly.
Ming Tanqing stared at her and questioned: “Liang Ruojing, why did you stand me up?”
