Beauty Snake - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Is This a Proper Dental Exam?
Hiss—hiss—hiss—
Before the break of dawn, a dark shadow stealthily made a practiced “jailbreak” from the terrarium, slowly slithering toward the door. As it moved, it didn’t forget to glance back at the figure sleeping soundly on the bed. The person on the bed was in a deep slumber, smacking her lips occasionally as if lost in a wonderful dream.
“Mm…”
Seeming to hear the noise of Xie Yin’s departure, Ji Yunfei let out a dissatisfied hum. Xie Yin froze on the spot, not daring to breathe for fear of being caught red-handed.
If she were unlucky enough to be discovered, how could she remain the Boss of the snake world? She had vowed to get “revenge,” and if she “fell in battle before the campaign truly began,” it would be an utter embarrassment for a snake!
Xie Yin remained as stiff as a puppet. In the silence of the night, her rapid heartbeat was deafening. Fortunately, peace soon returned to the bed; the sleeper rolled over and continued her rendezvous with the God of Dreams. Xie Yin let out a deep sigh of relief, hooked her tail, and quietly pushed the door open to exit.
Xie Yin slipped back into the room like a ghost, just as she had left—sneaking around like a thief. The only difference was that this time, she carried a bundle on her back, bulging with unseen contents.
With an evil grin, Xie Yin quickly set down and unwrapped the bundle, revealing the objects inside. Having finished arranging her “treasures,” dawn was just beginning to break. She narrowed her eyes, flickered her tongue, and impatiently climbed onto the bed to nudge Ji Yunfei before darting back into the terrarium with lightning speed. She opened her eyes wide, staring out while pretending to be just a cute, innocent little snake.
“AAAAHHH—WHAT IS THIS!!!”
It wasn’t a rooster’s crow that shattered the dawn, but Ji Yunfei’s terrified scream.
Ji Yunfei rubbed her eyes groggily, sat up dazed for a moment, and was about to get out of bed when her eyes suddenly bulged. She leaped up and backed away, her eyes red as she pointed at the “treasures” on the floor and screamed at Xie Yin:
“This is terrifying!!”
“Yin Yin, save me!!”
“Hehe… plan successful…”
“Ahem… Boss… Boss… stop laughing over there.”
“Look up… disaster is imminent…”
Xie Yin was still immersed in her own world, letting out an occasional chilling chuckle, completely failing to notice the approach of Ji Yunfei, who wore a fake smile that didn’t reach her eyes. Brother Glasses, closing his eyes as if seeing a ghost, offered a warning.
“What did you say… AAAAAHHH—”
Snapped back to reality by the warning, Xie Yin didn’t even have time to answer before she was hoisted up by Ji Yunfei, whose mouth was twitching with suppressed irritation.
Woman and snake stared at each other.
“Guess why I didn’t look for the other babies and came straight for you, my little ‘Rascal’ baby? Hmm?”
Ji Yunfei was the first to speak. Looking at Ji Yunfei’s “smiling tiger” expression, Xie Yin knew things were bad. How could Ji Yunfei have noticed when she had been so careful?
Right, she must be bluffing!
At that thought, Xie Yin did her best to hide her guilt. She blinked her eyes at Ji Yunfei, her face the picture of a “clueless, silly snake” who knew nothing.
“Heh.” Ji Yunfei laughed out of anger at the snake pretending to be uninvolved.
She pinched Xie Yin’s mouth open and grabbed a relatively clean dead mouse from the pile of treasures on the floor, making a move to stuff it into Xie Yin’s mouth. No matter how much Xie Yin squirmed, she couldn’t break free. Finally, she went limp in resignation. Fortunately, Ji Yunfei’s hand stopped just a centimeter away from her mouth.
“Holding a grudge because of yesterday? I never realized you were such a vengeful snake.”
Seeing the snake clearly resisting and terrified yet trying to act obedient, Ji Yunfei couldn’t find the heart to go through with it. She tossed the mouse aside, threw up her hands, and patted the black snake’s head seriously. “We’re even now. No next time, okay?”
How did Ji Yunfei know about Xie Yin’s little stunt? It was a coincidence. Having just reinforced the terrarium, she wanted to test the quality of the work. She also wanted to see if this “wicked” snake was truly that intelligent, so she hadn’t entered a deep sleep all night.
She had been awake since the moment Xie Yin crept out like a thief. She didn’t show it, pretending to be asleep, but every move Xie Yin made didn’t escape her ears. Seeing the snake’s guilty demeanor, Ji Yunfei had decided to play along.
She had pretended to be disturbed by the noise, and as expected, Xie Yin had been petrified. Ji Yunfei was laughing hysterically inside while maintaining her act. She eventually let Xie Yin go and went back to faking sleep because she simply couldn’t hold it in anymore—the “Rascal” snake was just too cute.
Although she was mentally prepared for Xie Yin’s revenge, no one feels good waking up to a floor full of dead mice and dead bats. Especially when the “bad” snake is waiting excitedly for a reaction.
Admittedly, the mice could be described as… having delicate features? At least they weren’t bloody or filthy like in the movies. But the bats! Absolutely not! Having had her face “plastered” by bats before, Ji Yunfei’s fragile heart was traumatized.
Based on this “evidence,” even though they were even, Ji Yunfei decided not to give the bad snake an extra meal tonight. She had to teach it a lesson—this time, she would make it watch the other snakes eat delicious frogs!
My, I really am a fair owner who balances reward and punishment, Ji Yunfei praised herself.
“A-mu… mmm… delicious…”
During the night’s feeding time, the snakes were enjoying the frogs, praising the meal as they ate—except for a certain “bad” snake whose plan had backfired.
“Mmm… Boss, this frog meat is so tender, woohoo.” Fatty, the hognose snake, was the happiest. Being a top-tier gourmet was his life’s goal.
“Shut up. Say one more word and I’ll sew your mouth shut and throw you in the river to feed the crocodiles.”
Xie Yin’s eyes were turning green with jealousy… well, they were already green.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s just one meal, why care… AAAHHH no, I’m so mad! Hateful Ji Yunfei!!”
Xie Yin didn’t actually care about the frog meat; she cared that the meat came from Ji Yunfei. In other words, she cared about Ji Yunfei’s affection. In her eyes, this was evidence that Ji Yunfei didn’t love her anymore.
In Xie Yin’s mind, she was like a consort in an ancient palace who had been banished to the Cold Palace, asking everyone she met: “Why are others allowed, but not me?”
The other snakes were like butterflies fluttering in the grass, and Ji Yunfei was undoubtedly the “fickle jerk” who kept the red flag flying at home while waving colorful flags outside. At that thought, Xie Yin narrowed her eyes, her teeth grinding with a ka-ka sound.
“What are you doing here again? Trying to please me won’t work now… eh? Hmph…”
As Xie Yin was brewing a new “bad plan” and unconsciously grinding her teeth loudly, a large shadow loomed over her. It was Ji Yunfei. Xie Yin naturally assumed she was coming to coax her, so she twisted her body away, pretending to ignore her.
To her surprise, Ji Yunfei didn’t say a word. She reached out and grabbed Xie Yin’s chin, forcing her head back. Then, she pinched Xie Yin’s cheeks, and a slender, long finger was inserted into her mouth.
“Mmph… wha’ r’ you doin’… Ji @#%%…”
Ji Yunfei’s warm hand brushed against Xie Yin’s tongue, heading straight for the teeth on both sides to probe carefully.
If Xie Yin were in human form, her cheeks would be redder than if she were drunk. She felt her blood boiling, and Ji Yunfei’s silhouette became blurry.
This is cheating.
Ji Yunfei, busy checking the teeth, didn’t notice anything unusual. She prodded and wondered: “Everything seems fine. Why would she be grinding her teeth for no reason, and so loudly too? How strange. I’ll have to ask the experts on the forums.”
“Hmph… Ji Yunfei, I won’t forgive you…” After the “dental exam,” Xie Yin was exhausted. Seeing Ji Yunfei let her go to mess with her phone, she quickly burrowed under the rockery. She needed to recover her energy. She wasn’t giving up… absolutely not…
