Beauty Snake - Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Ji Yunfei is an Unreliable Shady Strategist.
“Cough, cough, cough—” Ji Yunfei nearly choked on her water. She grabbed a tissue to wipe her mouth. “Chi Chang asked to meet me, so I’m heading out in a bit to be her shady strategist.”
“Shady strategist?” Hearing this, Xie Yin narrowed her eyes and repeated the words softly with a hint of amusement.
“Well, I’m not exactly sure I can actually help her. But Chi Chang promised that if I go, she’ll cover a whole month of food and snacks for Hehei and Baibai.”
“As they say, money makes the mare go, and kibble makes Yunfei’s brain flow. As Chi Chang’s best friend, it is my bounden duty to help her solve her romantic troubles,” Ji Yunfei said, her eyes darting around with a cunning smile.
Xie Yin smiled and nodded, finishing the last sip of milk in her glass. “Mm, it sounds like a worthwhile job for a strategist,” she said meaningfully, before standing up to clear the empty plates from the table.
Ji Yunfei caught the teasing tone in Xie Yin’s voice, but she didn’t have time to dwell on it. She jumped up and grabbed the plates before Xie Yin could. “I’ll do it, I’ll do it! I’ve eaten your food, so I can’t let you do all the work.”
With that, she scurried into the kitchen and began scrubbing the plates in the sink.
Even with her head down, Ji Yunfei could feel the burning gaze of the person leaning against the doorway. Her ears began to turn red. She tried her best to ignore her and focus on the porcelain in front of her.
However, it was clearly too difficult.
Xie Yin knew perfectly well that Yunfei couldn’t handle being stared at so intensely, yet she did it anyway—she was teasing her on purpose.
Fine then. Since Xie Yin is the one playing with fire, whatever I do next is perfectly justified…
Consider this a punishment for messing with my head.
With that thought, she finished the dishes in record time. Before the person at the door could react, Yunfei stepped forward, wrapped her left arm around Xie Yin’s slender waist, and let her right hand slide like a wandering snake beneath the strawberry bear pajamas, making direct contact with Xie Yin’s warm, soft skin.
“Ngh…” A wave of coolness hit her waist, making Xie Yin shiver. A soft moan escaped her lips.
“Indulging in lust in broad daylight… isn’t… commendable… A-Fei…” Xie Yin panted, but her body was honest, pressing fervently against Yunfei’s hand as it slid along her waist.
Hearing this, Ji Yunfei grew even more emboldened. She let out a soft laugh, tightening her grip on Xie Yin’s waist to pull her closer into her embrace, and bit down gently on Xie Yin’s collarbone.
“Who told you to keep staring at me… you asked for it…”
Huff— huff—
After jogging all the way into the cafe, Ji Yunfei immediately spotted Chi Chang sitting by the window, boredly stirring her coffee. She checked her watch and realized she was ten minutes late.
It was all Xie Yin’s fault!
She finally understood how the ancient “faint-hearted emperors” felt, lingering in the warm tents of beauties and skipping morning court…
“Sorry I’m late… have you been waiting long?” Ji Yunfei hurried over and pulled out a chair. As she spoke, she met Chi Chang’s eyes, which were filled with scrutiny and mischief.
Chi Chang narrowed her eyes, pouted, and pointed at Yunfei’s neck. “I was wondering why you were late, since you’re usually early.”
“Turns out you were busy being ‘sweet’ with your beauty…” Chi Chang bowed her head in mock sorrow and let out a deep sigh. “Truly, a lover found is a friend forgotten—”
Following the direction of Chi Chang’s finger, Ji Yunfei looked down and saw a small red mark on her neck. Her face flushed crimson instantly.
When did Xie Yin do this?! Now the “obsessed with beauty” stereotype was going to stick to her forever.
Though she wanted to crawl into a hole and hide, Ji Yunfei maintained a facade of composure. She casually pulled her collar up, her eyes darting around. “Ahem… don’t worry, you’re still my best friend. I’m really not the type to choose romance over friendship…”
Seeing that the skepticism in Chi Chang’s eyes was only deepening, Ji Yunfei took a deep breath. “Today’s bill is on me. Order whatever you want, Big Sister Chi.” She flashed a fawning smile.
The woman stirring her coffee stopped instantly. A “mission accomplished” grin spread across her face. “Now that’s more like it! I was waiting for you to say that!”
“Waitress! We’d like to order over here!”
“Bring us one of every signature cake and drink!!” Chi Chang picked up the menu and unceremoniously ordered all the bestsellers. Soon, their table was covered in an array of small cakes and beverages.
“Don’t be shy, dig in!” Without another word, Chi Chang grabbed a piece of tiramisu, her eyes lighting up at the first bite.
Ji Yunfei’s lip twitched into a smile that looked more like a grimace. She mentally looked at her tight wallet and felt a pang of pain.
But she had to accept it; she was in the wrong, after all…
“I got so caught up in eating I almost forgot the main event.” Chi Chang put down a dainty piece of cake, wiped her mouth, and looked at Ji Yunfei. “I hinted at the amusement park that I’d tell you, but I never got the chance.”
“Wait, wait. Before you speak, can I ask a question?” Ji Yunfei raised a hand to interrupt.
Chi Chang nodded, waiting.
“You knew she was hiding things from you, and yet you still stayed with her?” Ji Yunfei truly couldn’t understand how Chi Chang could be with someone she knew was being dishonest.
The aura around Chi Chang slumped immediately. She lowered her eyes, her voice sounding muffled. “That’s exactly why I feel so uncomfortable and weird…”
“I know she’s hiding her identity, and I thought about just ending it. But every time I think about breaking up, or I see her laughing and talking with others, I feel miserable. She’s the one hiding things, yet she acts like nothing is wrong, while I—the one being lied to—am the one feeling awkward.”
“Do you think I’m crazy? I know she’s lying now, which means there might be an even bigger bomb later, but I can’t bring myself to cut her off.” She took a bitter sip of her coffee and theorized, “Do you think she gave me some kind of love potion while I wasn’t looking, making me unable to leave her?”
As she theorized, she actually cheered herself up. A proud smile appeared on her face. “Sigh, if that’s the case, then it’s not her fault. It’s just because my charm is too great—”
“Pfft—” Seeing Chi Chang’s “confident woman” display, Ji Yunfei almost choked on her breath laughing.
“Big Sister Chi, I’ve realized something. You are a master of ‘self-persuasion.’ It’s my first time seeing someone find so many excuses for someone else. Tsk, tsk, tsk—the magic of love.”
Seeing her mocking expression, Chi Chang got annoyed. “Stop laughing at me! Think of a solution! I didn’t bring you here to watch a show!”
Ji Yunfei rubbed her chin, falling into deep thought. After a moment, a lightbulb went off. “What if… you try the ‘hard to get’ approach? Use your ‘social butterfly’ skills…”
“Make her go crazy for you, make her so jealous she hits her head against a wall? Maybe when she feels a sense of crisis, she’ll come clean about everything on her own?”
Was that a bit too mean? Ji Yunfei wondered. No matter what, Qin Qing was just a college student. Even if she had secrets, how bad could they be?
Ji Yunfei started to regret suggesting a plan that might hurt a young girl’s feelings.
She opened her mouth to add a disclaimer, but seeing Chi Chang’s eyes shining with approval, the words died in her throat.
Of course, this plan suited Chi Chang’s tastes perfectly. How could Chi Chang allow herself to be played by a girl younger than her?
Ji Yunfei began to pray for Qin Qing… hoping she wouldn’t fall too hard or get too hurt…
But Ji Yunfei forgot one thing: how simple could the heart of Qin Xiang’s younger sister really be? Who was truly playing whom remained to be seen.
“Meow—”
The moment she got home, the pitch-black Hehei jumped off the sofa, tail held high, rubbing against Ji Yunfei’s legs.
Compared to the scrawny thing she was as a kitten, Hehei had grown into a “little truck” under the care of her two mommies. Her amber eyes were half-lidded, looking as tempting as possible for a cuddle.
Ji Yunfei couldn’t resist. she reached out to rub Hehei’s belly, but her hand stopped abruptly mid-air.
Wait. Something is very wrong.
She had raised this cat from a baby; she knew her better than anyone. Usually, unless it was mealtime, Hehei was cold and aloof. Why was she acting so fawningly and rolling on the floor?
“Did the feeder not drop food today?” Ji Yunfei retracted her hand and walked to the balcony to check the automatic feeder.
Just as she suspected, the bowl was empty—cleaner than her own wallet. She sighed, annoyed at her own negligence, and opened the food container to refill it.
However, when she opened the lid, she froze. The container was still more than half full.
The reason the machine wasn’t dispensing food was obvious: it was jammed.
Even high-tech stuff jams… Ji Yunfei sighed, tapping the feeder to see if she could get lucky. But it seemed the Goddess of Luck had abandoned her in the Philippines after the amusement park trip.
When the machine still didn’t respond, she had no choice but to take out a spare ceramic bowl, fill it with kibble, and present it to Princess Hehei.
“Meow~” Smelling the food, Hehei buried her face in the bowl and began feasting. In a flash, the bowl was licked clean, and she sat there contentedly grooming herself.
Seeing this cute scene, pink bubbles seemed to float around Ji Yunfei. She squatted beside Hehei, face resting in her hands, watching with a smile.
Watching wasn’t enough; her “troublesome hand” reached out once more toward the soft belly of the victim, Hehei.
“Purr, purr—” To her surprise, the “Aloof Princess” didn’t swat her away this time. Instead, she rolled on the floor in enjoyment, purring loudly, her squinted eyes seemingly signaling her to continue.
Ji Yunfei worked even harder, her smile growing wider.
But a second later, the smile vanished from her face.
