Beauty Snake - Chapter 66
Chapter 66: “The Love Breakfast is Missing One Final Stroke.”
“You can’t let them see me… can I ask why?” Hearing this, Ji Yunfei pouted, feeling somewhat unwilling.
After all, she hadn’t seen her “Snake-babies” properly in a long time. As the saying goes, “One day apart feels like three autumns.” She truly missed them dearly.
At her question, Xie Yin covered her lips and coughed twice. “You know they miss you too, so if they see you…” She paused. “You know how it is—like fanatical fans seeing their idol. It would be chaotic.”
“Furthermore, their cultivation is currently only in the foundation-building stage. Stability of mind is crucial. Even a slight emotional disturbance could lead to internal energy deviation (Qi deviation).”
That was the explanation Xie Yin gave Ji Yunfei. In reality, that was only a small part of the reason. The main reason she didn’t want them to meet was something she was loath to admit.
Anyone who knew her knew that Xie Yin was famous within the clan for her intense possessiveness. Once something was marked as hers, she absolutely would not allow anyone else to covet it.
Whether it was a person or an object.
The mere thought of that group of silly snakes swarming around Ji Yunfei, chattering away, made her eyes turn red with an uncontrollable jealousy.
Of course, she could still salvage some dignity with another reason.
Those little silly snakes were truly simple-minded. If Ji Yunfei met them, in their excitement, there was no telling what startling secrets they might blurt out. She had to nip any possibility of her demon identity being exposed in the bud—better to be over-cautious than sorry.
Seeing that meeting them carried such a high risk, Ji Yunfei could only give up. “Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you. Just a glance from a distance is fine.”
“Good. Let’s go then. At this hour, they should be in the spiritual spring at the back of the mountain.”
“This place of yours truly deserves the name ‘Peach Blossom Spring’ (Hidden Paradise).” Currently, Ji Yunfei and Xie Yin were crouched in the bushes near the spiritual spring, with only their eyes peeking out to look at the water.
“That’s for sure. This is a treasure land our ancestors worked very hard to find. The spiritual energy is most abundant here, making it perfect for cultivation.” Mentioning the location of the Snake Den, Xie Yin couldn’t help but feel a bit proud. The ancestors of the snake clan were legendary figures, so the place they chose was naturally the best.
“Right, right. But why are they all sitting as still as statues, and why is black mud oozing out of them?” Ji Yunfei’s gaze remained fixed on the Snake-babies sitting in the spring. Seeing them all cross-legged with filth constantly seeping from their bodies, she instinctively pinched her nose.
The smell was… difficult to compliment.
“Is your spiritual spring really not going to turn into a sewage pool at this rate…?”
“Pfft—you really are adorably silly.” Xie Yin chuckled. “They are currently using the spring water to temper their bodies and expel impurities. As for the filth, the spring has self-cleaning properties; it will return to normal very soon.”
Hearing this, Ji Yunfei pursed her lips but said nothing. She stared intently at the meditating babies, her eyes turning slightly stinging. She crinkled her eyes, suppressing the intense emotions she could barely control, and turned to the person beside her. “Alright, I’ve seen enough. If I stay any longer, I might not want to go back.”
“Is it really enough?” Xie Yin could tell Ji Yunfei was trying hard to restrain her feelings; even her smile was forced.
“It’s enough…” Ji Yunfei lowered her head, her heart a mess of emotions.
Seeing this, Xie Yin sighed softly and patted her head. “Don’t be sad. Remember, in the shadows where you can’t see, we are always with you.”
“Perhaps one day in the future, a pedestrian passing you on the street will be one of them.”
“Stop comforting me. Since they’ve started cultivating, our relationship will no longer be ‘master and pets.’ They have the right to choose their own futures; there’s no need for them to revolve around me.” Hearing the comfort, Ji Yunfei felt a little better. She thought for a moment and decided that the babies should live their own lives well without always worrying about her.
“And how do you know,” Xie Yin asked softly, “that this isn’t exactly what they chose for themselves?”
“Alright, time’s up. It’s time to go back.”
“Wait—” Ji Yunfei wanted to say something else, but before she could open her mouth, she was pushed back by the person in front of her.
The scenery blurred and retreated rapidly. In the final moment before her consciousness returned to chaos, the last thing she saw was that pair of smiling green snake pupils.
Ding— Sunlight streamed through the curtains, feeling warm against her face. Ji Yunfei was awakened by a phone notification.
“Mmm…” Her head was still a bit foggy. She shielded her eyes with her hand and frowned slightly.
Which inconsiderate person was disturbing her dreams? She wasn’t going to give them a pleasant face. Rubbing her temples, she reached out and found her phone on the nightstand.
Snake Beauty Xie: Good morning, A-Fei ^v^, are you up? Snake Beauty Xie: I made some food, want to come over and eat?
Ah. It seemed she was going to have to slap her own face.
Seeing the sender was Xie Yin, Ji Yunfei’s morning grumpiness vanished instantly, replaced by a deep sense of joy. Her girlfriend made a “love breakfast” and was waiting for her… she truly was the luckiest girl in the world.
FFF: Just woke up. Let me wash up and get dressed, I’ll be right over ^3^
Just as she was about to turn off the screen, a new red notification appeared on WeChat. Looking closely, she saw it was Chi Chang.
This girl… it was a day off, and she was up this early? The sun must have risen from the west. Ji Yunfei instinctively looked out the window.
Well… the sun was rising from the east as usual. Something was definitely fishy.
Chi Chang was still bombarding her, pushing the earlier messages up. Ji Yunfei had no choice but to reply to stop her.
Chang-Chang-Chang: Crying-Cat.gif (xN) FFF: Stop. Stop the bombardment. Scrolling back is annoying. Chang-Chang-Chang: I was just afraid you wouldn’t see my message! Good, you’re up. I’ll stop, I’ll stop.
Seeing the emoji spam finally cease, Ji Yunfei scrolled back at her own pace.
Chang-Chang-Chang: My dear Feifei—I need a life-saver! Chang-Chang-Chang: I really don’t know how to face Qin Qing right now. It feels so weird… give me some advice!!
Hiss…
Seeing the request, Ji Yunfei frowned and instinctively bit her fingernail, feeling conflicted.
After all, the situation between those two felt complicated… if Chi Chang herself didn’t know what to do, what could an outsider like her achieve? With that thought, she began typing quickly.
FFF: I don’t think this is something I can interfere with. Big Sister Chi, how can an outsider help you? I have the heart, but not the strength! Chang-Chang-Chang: That’s where you’re wrong! As they say, ‘those who handle vermillion are stained red.’ It’s exactly because you’re an outsider that you can see the situation more clearly, right? Chang-Chang-Chang: I believe in you! 10:30 AM, Youlan Cafe—be there or be square! Love you~ FFF: ?? You’re so certain I’ll agree?! Chang-Chang-Chang: I’ll cover a whole month of cat food and snacks for Hehei and Baibai. FFF: . FFF: You certainly have reason to be certain. See you at the cafe.
Very well. Chi Chang knew exactly how to handle her. Thinking about a month’s worth of supplies for Hehei and Baibai, she was officially taking the job as a “shady strategist”!
Turning off the screen in a great mood, Ji Yunfei quickly washed up, dressed, and knocked on the door next door.
Knock knock knock—
Creak— The door opened, revealing Xie Yin’s bare, yet strikingly beautiful face.
“You’re here?” Wearing strawberry bear pajamas, Xie Yin leaned against the doorframe, tilting her head to look at Ji Yunfei. Her voice was tinged with a lingering morning laziness.
If I’d known, I wouldn’t have been in such a rush to change… Ji Yunfei muttered to herself.
Seeing her standing there in a daze with a slight pout, Xie Yin chuckled silently, reached out to wrap an arm around her waist, and pulled her into the apartment.
Once Ji Yunfei was “pressed” into a seat at the dining table, a delicious aroma forcefully invaded her nostrils. She sniffed and looked down at the plate. On the left was a fried egg, on the right was another fried egg, and below them was a strip of fried bacon—the three formed a large smiley face.
“The love breakfast is missing one final stroke.” Xie Yin’s voice came from above. Ji Yunfei looked up to see her holding a bottle of tomato sauce, her eyes crinkled with a smile.
Before Ji Yunfei could speak, Xie Yin drew a tiny heart on each egg “eye.” “The love breakfast is complete.”
“Childish,” Ji Yunfei said, but her heart was blooming with joy. She poked at the food as if she didn’t care, but the spark of praise in her eyes after the first bite betrayed her true feelings.
It was just ordinary eggs and bacon, so why did it feel so much more delicious than anything she’d ever eaten? Ji Yunfei couldn’t figure it out, so she eventually concluded that Chef Xie had magical powers to capture her taste buds.
Though, if Chef Xie herself were to say it, it was probably due to the magic of love.
Ji Yunfei’s expressions didn’t escape Xie Yin’s notice. She sat opposite her, moving slowly, her eyes filled only with the sight of Ji Yunfei’s puffed-out cheeks, looking like a little hamster storing grain.
Her A-Fei was just so cute, no matter when. She really, really wanted to… devour her, to make her belong solely to herself…
Suddenly realizing what she was thinking, Xie Yin shook her head, a strange surge of panic rising within her. She realized that her thought of “devouring” Ji Yunfei just now was literally about consuming her—the primal instinct of a snake…
What’s happening…? It shouldn’t be like this.
Taking a deep breath, she calmed her restless heart. Now was not the time to show panic. She could control it; she had the pendant at her neck and her own willpower.
“Xie Yin, are you okay? Your expression looks a bit strange. Are you feeling unwell?” Having quickly finished her breakfast, Ji Yunfei looked up to see the other woman’s brow slightly furrowed and her lips pressed thin, causing her to worry.
“I’m fine, just thinking about things. You know, there’s a lot going on at the company.” Realizing her expression had betrayed her, Xie Yin quickly adjusted, hiding the trace of unease with a smile. She smoothly changed the subject: “Are you going out today? It’s only eight o’clock, and you’re already dressed?”
“I thought you’d come over in your cute Butter Bear pajamas.”
