Beauty Snake - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: The Genius Plan of Yin-yin and Glasses-Ge
Accompanied by a chorus of neat, resounding shouts, the figures behind the door were none other than Ji Yunfei’s favorite “snake babies.” Leading them was the gray-haired “Glasses-Ge.” The moment he saw Xie Yin open the door, the tiny stars in his silver serpentine pupils nearly spilled over with excitement.
“Boss, you’re finally back!” Glasses-Ge flicked his tongue, his emotions surging. “We’ve been practicing hard while you were away!”
“Great job.” Xie Yin nodded, patting him on the shoulder. Seeing that he didn’t look happy but instead looked quite conflicted, she arched an eyebrow. “Is there something else you want to say?”
Realizing Xie Yin had caught his unease, Glasses-Ge took a deep breath. “Boss, we really miss the Master…” Mentioning Ji Yunfei, he lowered his eyes, his voice muffled.
Seeing Xie Yin remain silent, he pursed his lips and spoke again: “Boss… you said we train so that we can better protect the Master…”
“When can we see her again?” As his voice fell, Glasses-Ge and the rest of the snake brood stood still, waiting for Xie Yin’s response.
“Sigh…” Xie Yin finally moved. She placed a hand on his shoulder and sighed softly. “Before she knows the truth… you cannot appear before her.”
“I’m sorry, but we all have to prepare for the worst—to keep this hidden forever.” Xie Yin paused, withdrew her hand, and turned her back to the crowd. “You all might need to be prepared to protect her from the shadows indefinitely.”
“…” The group fell into an eerie silence. Glasses-Ge couldn’t understand; he knit his brows unwillingly, wanting to say more, but Xie Yin interrupted him: “Glasses, come inside with me for a moment.”
Though confused, Glasses-Ge realized she had something important to discuss. He nodded, waved the others away, and followed her into the house.
“Boss…”
“Sit down first.” Xie Yin sat on the rattan sofa and rubbed her brow. Seeing him looking restless and awkward, she shook her head helplessly and spoke softly, “I know you’re the most sensible one, which is why I called you in.”
“I know you all miss A-Fei… but now is not the time.”
“Please… Boss… just a glimpse from afar is enough…”
Seeing his stubbornness, Xie Yin leaned her head on her hand and fell silent. After a moment, a thought seemed to strike her. Her furrowed brows relaxed, and she looked up at him.
“Perhaps… there really is a chance for you all to see her.”
“But only you can go. Record the images with a Memory Stone. There are too many people to control otherwise.”
“!” Glasses-Ge’s eyes lit up instantly. The snake tail behind him flicked uncontrollably. He nodded repeatedly. “Yes, yes! As long as I can see the Master, it’s enough!”
Xie Yin waved a hand to calm him down. Once he was sitting obediently, she spoke slowly: “I’ll be taking her to the amusement park soon…”
“There will definitely be a haunted house…”
“You will…”
FFF: Xie Yin, when are you coming back? FFF: Do you want me to pick you up?
After sending the messages, Ji Yunfei turned off her screen and tossed her phone aside. During this business trip, Xie Yin seemed to have vanished into thin air. Many of her messages felt like stones sinking into the ocean; Xie Yin’s replies were few and far between.
Thinking of this, Ji Yunfei pouted and buried her head in her pillow. Even though Xie Yin had given her a “heads-up” beforehand, she still wasn’t used to it.
She preferred the version of Xie Yin who replied to every sentence—like an enthusiastic puppy. But this current situation reminded her of her own behavior when she was avoiding her feelings; looking at it from Xie Yin’s perspective back then, it must have been painful.
“Sigh…” Ji Yunfei sighed deeply, sat up, and twisted the “Canopus” ring on her hand as if venting. She murmured, “Bad Xie Yin… hurry up and reply…”
Ding— The phone notification sounded repeatedly.
The moment she heard the sound, Ji Yunfei scrambled to unlock her phone in one smooth motion, but her face went blank when she saw the content.
TX News: Shocking! A 78-year-old man actually… Daily Food Coupons: Today’s delivery red envelope has arrived… Zhiyun Bookstore: Exclusive resources, only for 24 hours!
She was going to kick these public accounts out sooner or later!
Ding.
Chang Chang Chang: Feizi, I got the amusement park tickets! When are we going? Chang Chang Chang: I can’t wait! FFF: I don’t know. We’ll wait until Xie Yin gets back. I’m waiting for her reply. Chang Chang Chang: Tsk tsk tsk, since when did you become a ‘Waiting-for-Wife Stone’?
Chang Chang Chang: Is this still the salted-fish Ji Yunfei I know, who isn’t interested in love and just wants to rot? Who are you! Give me back my Feizi! FFF: Chi Chang! If you’re looking for a beating, just say so!
Seeing Chi Chang’s “enjoying the chaos” remarks, Ji Yunfei gnashed her teeth, wishing she could reach through the screen and smack her. She could imagine that smug face right now.
After Chi Chang “surrendered,” Ji Yunfei exited the chat, only then noticing that the person she was longing for had replied five minutes ago.
Serpent-Xie Beauty: Sorry, A-Fei, I couldn’t reply to your messages in time these past few days. Serpent-Xie Beauty: I miss you…
FFF: I miss you too. Ji Yunfei pursed her lips, choosing to reveal her heart.
FFF: So, when are you coming back? After sending this, the other side fell into a long silence again.
Ji Yunfei grew anxious. Just as she was about to send another message, she suddenly heard footsteps outside the door. Soon, her doorbell rang. She knit her brows, checked the time—it was just past midnight—and thought, Who would knock on my door this late at night?
Alert, she got up with her phone in one hand and grabbed a baseball bat by the door with the other. She peeked through the peephole.
The moment she recognized the person outside, her silent phone dinged again.
Serpent-Xie Beauty: Good A-Fei, open the door.
Click— The lock turned, and Ji Yunfei opened the door. When she saw the living, breathing Xie Yin, she immediately tossed the baseball bat aside.
“I’m back, A-Fei.”
“Would you let me come in and sit for a bit?” Xie Yin’s eyes crinkled slightly, and her lips curled into a grin, revealing two little tiger fangs.
“Ah? Oh, right, come in.” Ji Yunfei’s brain was still booting up. It took Xie Yin’s words for her to snap out of it. She took the luggage and led her inside.
“I thought… you’d be back even later.” Sitting side-by-side on the sofa, Ji Yunfei spoke first. “You look tired. Do you want to rest?”
“Because I wanted to see you sooner… I took the earliest flight.” Xie Yin chuckled softly and flicked Ji Yunfei’s nose. “As for being tired… I think it’s just an illusion created by you worrying too much.”
“I’m full of energy right now. I wouldn’t mind staying up all night.” As she said this, she leaned into Ji Yunfei’s ear, her tone ambiguous.
“Stop it!” Ji Yunfei caught the underlying meaning immediately. Her face flushed all the way to her neck, and she gave the person beside her a light shove.
Though, if Xie Yin really wanted to, she wouldn’t mind keeping her company—it was a day off, after all. But she figured this girl was just talking big. Who on earth comes back from a business trip at midnight and is still full of energy?
Even if she was, it was fine. All the “knowledge” Ji Yunfei had been cramming lately wouldn’t go to waste…
She just worried that someone wouldn’t be able to get out of bed the next day…
“Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Here, this is for you.” Xie Yin blinked and mysteriously pulled a jewelry box from her backpack, handing it to Ji Yunfei.
“For me?” Ji Yunfei looked up, surprised.
“Open it and see?”
She nodded and opened the red velvet box. Lying inside was a four-pointed star-shaped gemstone, shimmering brightly under the lights.
“This was an item from an auction. I thought it would be perfect to set into the ‘Canopus’ ring.” Xie Yin took the gem and held Ji Yunfei’s hand, gesturing with the stone over the ring. “It’s just a pity there’s only one gem. The ‘Polaris’ ring doesn’t get a share.”
“There will be one. If not now, then we’ll wait until the day there is.” Ji Yunfei smiled silently, her thumb gently stroking the hand Xie Yin was holding. “Couple rings should be a matching set.”
Xie Yin froze for a moment, then nodded gently.
“Let me hug you, okay?” After a moment of silence, she spoke softly. Even though it was a question asking for permission, she had already lunged into Ji Yunfei’s arms before the answer came.
Seeing Xie Yin’s clingy nature return, Ji Yunfei felt an indescribable joy. “I can use your own words here: if you want to hug, just do it. But it seems someone has already acted?”
She tightened her hold on her and patted Xie Yin’s fluffy hair. “Since you’re back, shall we go to the amusement park on Sunday?”
“Chi Chang can’t wait any longer.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you,” Xie Yin murmured, her head buried in Ji Yunfei’s neck. Her warm breath fell entirely upon the other’s collarbone.
“Tonight… do you want to stay?” Ji Yunfei pursed her lips. “No hidden meaning, but since you’re already here…”
“Just wash up and sleep here. It’s getting late.” The more she spoke, the more her confidence wavered, and her voice grew fainter.
“Pfft, dummy, are you that shy?” Xie Yin couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She narrowed her eyes with a mischievous grin. “Actually… even if there was a hidden meaning, I’d still be willing to stay…”
Hearing this, Ji Yunfei stood up abruptly and rushed to the bedroom door. She turned her head: “I’m tired, going to sleep. You… do as you wish. The bedroom door isn’t locked.”
With that, she opened the door and disappeared inside, leaving Xie Yin alone in the living room.
A moment later, she popped back out and tossed a set of pajamas at Xie Yin. “Make do with these.” Then she vanished again.
Hmm, a set of Strawberry Bear pajamas… they look surprisingly matching with her Butter Bear ones…
“Little dummy…” Xie Yin leaned her head on her hand, chuckled helplessly, and went into the bathroom.
By the time she had finished cleaning up and quietly “slipped” into the room, Ji Yunfei was already fast asleep.
In the quiet space, Ji Yunfei’s light and long breathing echoed, and with Xie Yin’s arrival, that breathing now had a companion.
Gently lifting a corner of the quilt, she sat obediently by Ji Yunfei’s side, watching her in the darkness with a lingering, tender gaze.
Finally, she leaned down, placed a soft kiss on the forehead of the sleeping woman, and then snuggled into her arms.
Ji Yunfei’s embrace was always warm and reassuring.
