- Chapter 10 - Grandma Has Money, We Will Get You Treated
Yu Qingdu watched Yan Er as the corners of his mouth began to curl upward. He continued, “When I heard you were going to open your own studio, I was quite supportive. After all,” he glanced at Yan Er with a look of pure contempt, disdain, and irony, “how could a thief ever be hired anywhere else?”
Yan Er’s face turned ashen. He clenched his fists so hard they began to tremble.
“As it turns out, it seems your studio,” Yu Qingdu took another bite of greens and waited until he had swallowed before finishing his sentence, “was not a success.”
He set his chopsticks down and looked at Yan Er, appearing somewhat amused. “But seeing that you have been hired by Shengshi now, I understand. After all, trash,” Yu Qingdu looked into his eyes, his words like needles stabbing at Yan Er’s heart, “should stay in the trash can.”
“You!” Yan Er pointed a finger in anger, but meeting Yu Qingdu’s gaze, he could not utter another word.
Yu Qingdu simply smiled. He turned to Shang Qingye and introduced him. “You probably do not know this man. Let me introduce you. This is my university roommate. He is also a thief who enjoys stealing other people’s design drafts.”
Yu Qingdu knew exactly what Yan Er could not stand, yet he deliberately chose to strike where it hurt most. Unable to take any more, Yan Er left without a word of goodbye.
Shang Qingye watched Yan Er’s retreating back before turning his gaze back to Yu Qingdu’s composed face. It was a classic case of destroying a person’s spirit.
Yu Qingdu focused his attention on Shang Qingye. He looked at him and suddenly smiled charmingly. “Tell me, are you interested in having sex with me?”
Shang Qingye returned home and saw Grandma Shang through the door curtain. She was at the bedroom table, busy tinkering with something.
He called out, “Grandma, I am back.”
Grandma Shang answered from the room. Shang Qingye poured himself a glass of water and sat down. He stared at the water in the glass, distracted by the words Yu Qingdu had spoken earlier that day. After an unknown amount of time, Grandma Shang emerged from the bedroom. Seeing Shang Qingye lost in thought, she sat down beside him.
“Xiao Ye, are you busy tomorrow?”
Shang Qingye, still dazed, reflexively replied, “No, I am not.”
Hearing this, Grandma Shang nodded with relief. She placed her hands on the table, clutching a small bundle wrapped in cloth. Her wrinkled hands trembled slightly as she unwrapped the cloth, revealing a stack of cash and a savings book.
Seeing this, Shang Qingye frowned. “Grandma, what are you doing?”
Grandma Shang smiled and picked up the stack of bills. She said to Shang Qingye, “I just counted it. There are nine hundred and thirty six pesos here. Take it.”
She pressed the money into Shang Qingye’s hand. He refused, “Grandma, I do not want it. Keep it for yourself.”
But seeing that he would not take it, she firmly placed the money in front of him. Then she picked up the savings book from the cloth. “There are eighteen thousand pesos in this account. Take this as well.”
Grandma Shang placed the savings book in front of Shang Qingye and said with a smile, “I have heard people say that treating ears is very expensive. But it is fine. Grandma has money. We will get you treated.”
For a moment, Shang Qingye did not know what to say. His eyelids began to redden. Grandma Shang continued to smile. “Since you are not busy tomorrow, remember to go have your ear checked. Listen to what the doctor says. It is not right to leave your ear like this forever, is it?”
Shang Qingye remained silent for a long while before finally giving a low, heavy, “Mhm.”
The sun was out, which was a rare sight. The sunlight slanted through the window, shining on Grandma Shang’s hair. The white strands mixed in with the black hair sparkled under the light. That evening, while Grandma Shang was downstairs picking vegetables with Grandma Wei, Shang Qingye quietly tucked the items back under Grandma Shang’s pillow.
As soon as the new products from CHDU Studio were launched, they were met with widespread acclaim. Sales were excellent, and with the studio’s effective promotion, the revenue was quite impressive.
“The Ultimate collection is selling very well,” Xu Yue said while sitting in the office.
“It is quite good,” Yu Qingdu agreed, nodding as he reviewed the recent data on his tablet.
Xu Yue looked at Yu Qingdu and asked, “The results for the Master Gem preliminary round should be out soon, right?”
Yu Qingdu nodded. “It should be within the next few days.” He looked up. “How are the preparations for the samples going?”
Xu Yue replied, “They are almost ready. Do not worry; I am keeping an eye on them for you.”
“Good.”
“Jinglan said the chain you wanted is finished. Should I pick it up tomorrow and leave it in your office?” Xu Yue looked at Yu Qingdu teasingly. “That should not be one of the new products we are releasing, right?”
Yu Qingdu looked up, his lips curving into a smile. “Of course not. Bring it to my office once you have it.”
Xu Yue nodded and was about to leave when Yu Qingdu spoke again. “Oh, right. Send out a notice. Since the recent data has been good, everyone gets the day after tomorrow off.”
Xu Yue looked at Yu Qingdu and understood. He smiled softly. “And what about you, Boss? Are you taking the day off?”
Yu Qingdu’s eyes flickered with a hidden meaning. He replied with a smile, “The boss has matters to handle. No day off for me.”
“Why is there no one in the studio today?” Shang Qingye asked, raising an eyebrow at Yu Qingdu.
In the office, Yu Qingdu looked up at Shang Qingye, a smile on his face. “I gave them the day off.”
“Then why did you call me here?” Shang Qingye reclined on the sofa, looking wild and untamed.
Yu Qingdu took a chain out of a drawer and stood up. He walked slowly toward Shang Qingye and lifted the man’s chin with one hand, his eyelashes curving beautifully.
“To be my model.”
Shang Qingye looked at him, his eyes darkening as his Adam’s apple bobbed. Yu Qingdu noticed this and slid his finger down, tapping on the Adam’s apple.
“Let us go.”
Yu Qingdu led Shang Qingye to the photography room. Shang Qingye followed behind, his eyes fixed on the chain Yu Qingdu held. Because Yu Qingdu was gripping it, Shang Qingye could not see its full form; he could only see that it was set with blue sapphires and seemed to consist of many individual chains.
Yu Qingdu locked the door and drew the curtains, plunging the room into darkness. He then turned on a small wall lamp that cast a faint, pinkish glow.
“Come here,” Yu Qingdu said, standing by the lamp.
In the darkness, Shang Qingye’s reaction was somewhat slow. Seeing no response, Yu Qingdu seemed to realize something and raised his voice.
“Shang Qingye, come here.”
Hearing the voice, Shang Qingye looked toward Yu Qingdu. After a few seconds, he walked over slowly with his hands in his pockets. “What are you planning to shoot? Why set such an atmosphere?”
Yu Qingdu did not answer. Instead, he stepped closer, grabbed Shang Qingye’s hand, and said, “Take off your clothes.”
