An Obsessive Alpha Covets The Honest Beta - Chapter 5
Lin Xun had been gone for three days, and during those three days, he had not contacted Li You a single time.
The moment he left, the house suddenly felt much emptier, but Li You was in no mood to enjoy the pleasures of living alone; he was nearly being crushed to death by work.
The project proposal had been discussed and finalized not long ago, but out of nowhere over the past few days, the client suddenly changed their stance. They completely rejected every single proposal submitted by his company and sent them all back. Just like that, they went through over a dozen revisions in a row, tormenting everyone on the team to the point of crying out in misery.
Unsurprisingly, Li You was on that team as well.
To make matters worse, that despicable client was none other than Lin Xun.
Li You knew full well that Lin Xun was deliberately tormenting him.
Perhaps that petty Alpha was sitting calmly in his office right now, waiting for him to come to his door and beg.
In fact, Li You’s suspicion was spot on.
When the sixteenth version of the proposal was handed over, Lin Xun casually flipped through a few pages, scanning them at a rate of ten lines per glance. Then, unhurriedly, he rolled the proposal document into a cylinder and stuffed it directly into the trash can.
“What kind of garbage is this? Has your company switched industries to run a charity now?”
Inside the reception room, Lin Xun was practically pointing at their noses and cursing every single one of them as useless fools. The face of the girl next to Li You had turned the color of a pig’s liver, her arms trembling as she dared not utter a single word in rebuttal.
The people on their team had already been terrified by this damned client’s relentless torture; no one was willing to come over to deliver proposals and offer their heads on a platter. Today, Li You had been coaxed by a few senior staff members to serve as the vanguard. The young girl beside him was an intern hired a week ago, who had been bundled along to keep Li You company and share the scolding.
Li You remained silent. He waited until Lin Xun was finished with his cold irony and burning sarcasm, then rose neither submissively nor haughtily. He bent down to pick up the proposal document from the trash can, stuffed it into his bag, and respectfully bade farewell to Lin Xun.
The young girl was named Zhang Qian, a fresh graduate this year. At this moment, she followed Li You out of the reception room with lingering fear in her heart. Being pointed at and cursed at by a client on her very first field assignment was far beyond her realm of understanding. She mumbled and complained behind him, “He looks like a decent human being, so why doesn’t he act like one?”
A newcomer fresh out of school lacked deceit, and her cursing was truly genuine; it was entirely from the bottom of her heart.
Li You was amused by her words and said, “This is nothing yet…”
Zhang Qian thought Li You was referring to her weak psychological endurance and scratched her head sheepishly. Unexpectedly, she heard Li You continue, “There are plenty more ways he fails to act like a human being.”
Zhang Qian stared at Li You in dumbfounded amazement, her heart thoroughly thrilled. She gave Li You a big thumbs-up, “Brother, you’re even more straightforward than I am.”
Li You smiled nonchalantly. As he raised his head, the client they were just discussing, the one who failed to act like a human being, was staring fixedly at him with an expression devoid of any warmth.
Zhang Qian was nearly scared to tears by Lin Xun. She asked Li You in a low voice what to do and whether her career was over right then and there.
Li You said it didn’t matter; if anyone was leaving, the two of them would leave together. He handed the bag in his hand to Zhang Qian and told her to take the things back to the company first.
Zhang Qian was torn between tears and laughter: “Brother, why are we taking this scrap back with us?”
Li You said earnestly, “Just take it back. Leaving it here would only let their cleaning staff collect it and sell it as junk.”
“Oh…”
Holding the bag in her arms, Zhang Qian walked away, turning her head back every three steps.
Lin Xun dragged Li You into the reception room. Li You was pressed against the frosted glass door, upon which human silhouettes could still be faintly seen.
The Alpha restrained him just like that, without speaking or making a single move.
“You…”
“Shh.”
Just as Li You uttered a single word, his mouth was covered by Lin Xun’s hand. The corridor outside was noisy; they had not ventured deep inside, so at the doorway, they could still clearly hear the voices of people conversing outside.
“President Ning, you’ve finally returned. There’s a contract here that requires your signature.”
“Leave it in my office first.”
“Alright.”
The secretary left the document and brushed past Lin Zhaoning, only to be called back by him: “Why haven’t I seen Xiao Xun? Is he not in the company?”
Li You’s heart trembled. He pushed against Lin Xun frantically, signaling him to move out of the way quickly.
Lin Xun held his hands, keeping them pressed against his own chest muscles. Bending his waist and lowering his head in one fluid motion, he leaned in and kissed him.
“President Lin was meeting with a partner in the reception room just now,” the secretary said in confusion. “But I saw their people leave a moment ago. Has President Lin not come out yet? Shall I go inform him for you?”
Lin Zhaoning waved his hand in refusal: “No need. Go ahead with your work, I’ll go look for him myself.”
Li You broke out in a sweat from anxiety, yet Lin Xun was thoroughly enjoying himself. Li You hardened his heart and used his hand to write a few words on the Alpha’s white dress shirt over his chest.
He wrote “I’m begging you,” writing it twice.
Lin Xun looked down at Li You’s lips, which had been kissed until they were slightly swollen. Due to the lack of oxygen, Li You parted his mouth slightly to try and breathe fresh air, his long eyelashes drooping down like a pair of fanned-out wings.
Li You’s hands were still placed on his chest, his knuckles curled up, his eyes filled with pleading.
“…I’ll settle the score with you later.”
At the exact instant Lin Zhaoning pushed the door open and stepped inside, Li You was hidden under the reception room table by Lin Xun. The table was very wide, and the legs were low, so anyone entering normally wouldn’t notice the situation beneath it.
Lin Xun sat upright and dignified, looking down at his computer screen with a proper front while acting like a complete scoundrel underneath. Li You, on the other hand, suffered greatly. He curled his body up and squatted under the table, facing Lin Xun’s knees, while Lin Zhaoning’s voice rang out behind him once more.
“Have things been unpleasant with Mother lately?”
Lin Zhaoning pulled out a chair and sat down. Lin Xun rested one hand on the tabletop, while his other hand searched downward, reaching Li You’s lips.
Without batting an eye, Lin Xun gave an indifferent “Mm.” He accelerated the movement of his hand; his fingers were long, and he intentionally probed toward the root of Li You’s tongue. Li You almost gagged, closing his eyes and biting down hard on Lin Xun’s misbehaving index finger.
“Mother is doing it for your own good as well. You’re not young anymore, it’s time to settle down… I recall you had a verbal marriage engagement with the young lady from the Qin family?”
Li You’s bite was truly far from light. Lin Xun let out a soft “hiss,” a bright red tooth mark appearing on his index finger.
Lin Zhaoning’s words were interrupted, and he asked Lin Xun with concern what had happened.
Lin Xun stopped tormenting Li You’s mouth. Instead, he switched tactics, using his fingers to unbutton Li You’s shirt, teasing those two pitiful little bumps on his chest.
“The kitten at home is disobedient and likes to bite. It touched an injury.”
Lin Xun spoke with utter composure. Lin Zhaoning was surprised at first, then burst into a helpless laugh. He couldn’t imagine Lin Xun solemnly playing with a cat using a teaser wand at home, and was equally astonished that he actually had the interest to raise a cat. So he asked casually, “Where did the cat come from? What made you think of raising a cat?”
Lin Xun’s fingertips paused for a moment. Remembering Li You’s wide, glaring eyes when he was angry, he replied coldly, “Snatched it. Thought it looked pretty.”
Li You finally knew what Lin Xun meant by “punishment.” His face flushed deep red from holding it in, not daring to utter the slightest sound, to the point that even his fair, slender neck was dyed crimson.
That Alpha was utterly despicable. The force of his touch was maddeningly unpredictable, alternating between light and heavy. Li You raised his hand to brace against Lin Xun’s knee, reaching around to the back of his knee pit and giving it a hard pinch.
Lin Xun rubbed that tiny bit firmly, pressing down hard. A dense sensation like an electric current surged from above Li You’s lower abdomen. Like an electric shock, it caused Li You’s whole body to shiver; he arched his back and let out a muffled groan.
Lin Xun kicked the chair beside him with his toe, masking that improper sound.
This bastard!
Covering his mouth, Li You launched a bloody, scathing condemnation of Lin Xun in his heart.
Lin Xun finally raised his head from the computer screen, the smile at the corner of his mouth wild and arrogant. “Why haven’t I seen Sister-in-law lately? Bring him back to have dinner together tonight.”
Lin Zhaoning fell silent for a moment, then agreed in a low voice.
Lin Xun reminded him again, “Aren’t you going to call and ask for his opinion?”
Underneath the table, Li You finally lost his last shred of patience. Ducking his head, he wrapped his arms around the Alpha’s calf and bit down viciously.
Lin Zhaoning looked at Lin Xun, sensing an uncomfortable, eerie strangeness.
This younger brother of his had always been cold and indifferent toward him. Why was he acting so abnormal today?
Lin Xun tickled Li You’s chin with great amusement, the tip of his shoe lingering gently against his lower abdomen, though he nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders on the surface: “Forget it, it doesn’t matter.”
Lin Zhaoning exited the reception room suspiciously. The moment he left, Lin Xun grabbed Li You’s arm and dragged him out, clamping one hand under Li You’s armpit while using the other hand to close the computer and toss it aside, sitting him face-to-face on the table.
Li You’s shirt was in disarray, the crimson flush on his neck had not completely faded, his hair was messy, and his eyes were dazed. He had just been teased into a state of distraction by Lin Xun’s fingers, and added to the fact that his husband had been sitting right across from them, Li You’s mind was in total turmoil. His heart was pounding wildly, and his nerves had been stretched taut the entire time; he had not yet recovered.
Lin Xun couldn’t care less about any of that. He pressed the Beta he had almost broken against the tabletop, using one hand to pull up the hem of Li You’s shirt all the way to his chin, kissing him all the way from his collarbone down to his side waist.
Groping down to touch Li You’s belt, he cleared the obstacle in two or three quick moves and reached inside. For the first time in his life, this Alpha revealed an expression of genuine shock.
Li You was so ashamed he wanted to find a crack in the ground to dig himself into.
He simply buried his head under his shirt to play dead.
“So sensitive?” Lin Xun was thoroughly baffled. He pinched the waist of the person beneath him. Li You arched his back and, without a word, kicked the Alpha, saying in anger and embarrassment, “Lin Xun, stop fooling around!”
The less-than-beastly rogue kissed Li You’s earlobe, letting out an unhurried, mocking laugh: “Quite a temper you’ve got.”
Lin Xun tidied Li You’s clothes for him, resting his chin against the Beta’s forehead. His five fingers cupped that round back of his head, jet-black, soft hair peeking out from between his fingers, making Lin Xun feel another wave of itchiness in his heart.
Li You smelled very nice. It wasn’t the scent of pheromones, nor did it resemble the fragrance of body wash; it was a natural body scent that Lin Xun couldn’t quite describe.
“Stay away from him tonight. I’ll wait for you at the old residence. Got it?”
As he spoke, Lin Xun fished a small box out of his suit jacket pocket, inside of which lay a ring.
It was identical to the one Li You had before.
Lin Xun personally put the ring onto Li You’s finger. Turning his face away with a hint of reluctance, he disparaged his taste along the way: “Only you would like such an ugly thing.”
This ring looked no different from the previous one on the surface, but in reality, two capital English letters were engraved on the back of the band: XY.
Li You’s feelings were complex. In truth, the ring itself no longer held much meaning; even if Lin Xun hadn’t thrown it away, he would have taken it off eventually.
After a moment’s hesitation, Li You ultimately accepted the ring. Remembering something, he offered Lin Xun a rare smile, a gentle, timid smile, just like when they first met over a decade ago, except Li You had long forgotten it.
Li You looked at the dazed Lin Xun and said softly, “Understood.”
As he turned to leave, Li You’s arm was grabbed once more by the person behind him.
Turning back, Lin Xun had discarded his usual unfathomable demeanor. At this moment, he was looking at him with incomparable seriousness, asking, “Li You, when are you going to divorce him?”
Li You lowered his eyes, prying off the Alpha’s fingers one by one, and said, “That doesn’t seem to affect the relationship between us.”
After all, he had already accepted by default that this relationship could never see the light of day or be brought out in the open. What difference would a divorce make? In the end, it was still unsavory.
Besides, he didn’t want to have any extra entanglements with this Alpha anyway.
The seriousness in Lin Xun’s eyes seemed to exist for only a split second. When he wasn’t smiling, the lines of his mouth were flat and straight, and his emotionless, calm gaze swept over, cold and indifferent.
He simply nodded indifferently, looking completely unbothered: “Fine, I have no objection.”
It was nothing more than continuing to be the third wheel, nothing to make a big fuss about.
Who cared.
Lin Xun stared down at his computer desktop, his finger resting on the mouse, thinking without a trace of emotion.
Li You left.
Once he had walked far away and exited the office building, an earth-shattering boom suddenly erupted inside the reception room.
The assistant hurriedly pushed the door open to check the situation, only to stand dumbfounded at the entrance.
The reception room was an absolute wreck: chairs were scattered in total disarray, some broken and smashed to pieces; the computer hadn’t fared any better, its screen cracked like a spiderweb and thrown at his feet, sharing space with shattered glass cups covering the floor. Lin Xun stood in the center, glass shards embedded in the knuckles of his right fist, which was still dripping blood profusely.
Lin Xun’s expression could hardly be called pleasant, and neither the assistant nor the secretary dared to step forward and court disaster. It wasn’t until they heard their boss utter a single word, “Get out”, that they cautiously closed the door, stepped back, and stood guard outside.
Due to the emotional volatility causing the pheromones inside his body to fluctuate, a subtle hint of cedar scent leaked out faintly.
Lin Xun pulled open a drawer, took out a pre-stocked suppressor, rolled up his sleeve, and plunged the needle straight into his muscular forearm. He then tossed the syringe into the trash can.
If he had known better, he shouldn’t have given him a choice; he should have just locked him up directly.
What on earth is so good about Lin Zhaoning that you still can’t let him go to this day?
Lin Xun was going mad with jealousy. The more he thought about it, the more he hated it. The fire in his heart burned furiously, scorching away all of the Alpha’s rationality.
F*ck.
He really F*cking deserves to die.
