- Chapter 93 - I Already Have Good Friends, Let’s Be Rivals Instead
The show Dance Beyond Limits had aired four consecutive episodes, each one exceptionally popular and highly anticipated.
As a result, Li Su’s working hours grew longer, and she spent more and more time in the dance studio.
For each episode, the remaining contestants had to collaborate on a group dance, and every mentor was responsible for coaching several participants.
Li Su had invited renowned choreographers from both domestic and international circles for every episode.
While she could provide guidance, demonstrating the moves wasn’t always feasible for her. With the help of these choreographers, however, she was like a tiger with wings, unstoppable.
She took this show seriously.
Moreover, the production team had installed cameras in the dance studio, which would be featured in the program.
“Boss! Boss!”
Qiao Ni rushed into the studio. “Jian Jiaqing just came running in a panic, saying she needs to talk to you urgently!”
“Keep practicing,” Li Su said before stepping out.
The moment Jian Jiaqing saw her, it was as if she had spotted a savior. “Li Su, can you get in touch with Lin Yaoqing?”
“What happened?”
Seeing how frantic Jian Jiaqing looked, Li Su immediately went to her office to grab her phone.
Jian Jiaqing followed her. “I don’t know. Our team can’t reach her. We were chatting just fine last night, she said she’d come to the studio today. But now, her phone goes unanswered, messages are left on read, and even the production team can’t get through to her.”
“You don’t think something’s happened to her, do you?” Jian Jiaqing’s face was etched with worry.
Li Su dialed Lin Yaoqing’s number, only to hear the automated voice announcing that the phone was switched off.
“It’s off.”
“It wasn’t off earlier, but now it is. You’ve known her since childhood, you must know where she lives, right? Can you go check on her?” Jian Jiaqing pleaded anxiously.
Her concerns were twofold: first, she feared something had happened to Lin Yaoqing, and second, with the live broadcast scheduled for tomorrow, Lin Yaoqing’s absence would be disastrous.
“I’ll go find her.”
Li Su grabbed her bag and strode out without another word.
Once Li Su was gone, Jian Jiaqing headed toward the practice room.
The glass door allowed her to see the other contestants inside.
Suddenly, someone yanked her wrist.
Qiao Ni blocked her view. “Jian Jiaqing, I’ll let you know if there’s any news. The live broadcast is tomorrow night, you can watch it however you like then!”
Though Li Su had given her a “B” in the first round, Jian Jiaqing had to admit that Li Su had been incredibly dedicated to her contestants afterward.
She couldn’t help but envy the dancers under Li Su’s mentorship, they had access to the best choreographers in the world.
Lin Yaoqing also invited guest instructors, but she wasn’t as hands-on as Li Su.
“Regretting your choice now, aren’t you? On the show, our boss protects her own like a mother hen, nothing like Lin Yaoqing,” Qiao Ni sneered, pointing at the door. “Get out!”
“Even if I’m no longer at Li Su’s Dance Studio, we’re still colleagues, friends even. Li Su never kicked me out like this. Who do you think you are?”
Qiao Ni crossed her arms. “I’m responsible for the contestants. No outsiders allowed, especially not traitors like you!”
Jian Jiaqing’s composure cracked. “Traitor? That’s harsh. People always aim for better opportunities, what’s wrong with that?”
“Pfft. And yet, you didn’t make it to the Spring Festival Gala. Got eliminated, didn’t you?” Qiao Ni taunted, clearly relishing the moment.
That was Jian Jiaqing’s sorest spot.
Of course, former colleagues knew exactly where to twist the knife.
Fuming, Jian Jiaqing stormed off.
She still had rehearsals to attend before tomorrow’s live show.
Li Su drove to the Lin residence.
The May sun blazed overhead, casting a bright, oppressive glow over the Lin family villa.
Inside, the house was eerily silent, thick with tension.
As Li Su entered the hall, she saw Lin Yaoqing’s mother and two others, faces vaguely familiar, likely people she’d met before.
“Auntie, is Lin Yaoqing home?” Li Su asked politely.
Lin Yaoqing’s mother glanced at her, expressionless. “She’s upstairs.”
The stifling atmosphere confirmed Li Su’s suspicions.
With a practiced smile, Li Su asked, “May I see her?”
Lin Yaoqing’s mother looked exhausted, probably after a heated argument.
Li Su remembered witnessing similar clashes between mother and daughter when they were kids.
“Go ahead.”
The second floor was even quieter than the first.
Outside Lin Yaoqing’s room stood two stone-faced bodyguards.
Li Su approached. “Madam Lin said I could see her.”
The guards wordlessly opened the door.
The room was pitch-black, curtains drawn tight, allowing only slivers of light to seep through.
A motionless lump lay on the bed, how long had she been lying there?
“Lying in bed like a dead pig, did your legs stop working?”
Lin Yaoqing twitched. Was she hallucinating?
That sounded like Li Su’s voice.
And she’d just called her a dead pig!
“You’re the dead pig!”
Grumbling, Lin Yaoqing rolled over, only to see Li Su standing by her bed.
“What are you doing here?”
She bolted upright.
“I drove.”
“I mean, why are you here?”
“The production team couldn’t reach you.” Li Su shut the door and flicked on the light.
Lin Yaoqing squeezed her eyes shut.
After so long in darkness, the sudden brightness stung.
“What happened? Did your parents lock you up?” Li Su kept her voice low, wary of eavesdroppers outside.
“They want me to marry for alliance. I don’t want to get married, not everyone can be as lucky as you. Your husband supports you, but if I marry, they’ll expect me to stay home, play the dutiful wife, pop out babies. I can’t live like that!”
“If I don’t comply, they won’t let me leave!”
“Sometimes I really envy you. Your parents and brother dote on you, you can do whatever you want…”
This was the first time Li Su had seen Lin Yaoqing like this, disheveled, despondent, utterly defeated.
She said, “This is the first time I’ve ever thought you were stupid.”
“Stupid? First, you call me a dead pig, now stupid? Li Su, I’m starting to think you came just to laugh at me!”
Lin Yaoqing jabbed a finger at the door. “Get out! Let me rot here!”
“Rot? The Lin Yaoqing I know wouldn’t be crushed by something like an arranged marriage.”
“Why not talk to your prospective fiancé first? Whether or not to have children is between the two of you. Play along on the surface, but behind the scenes, it’s your decision. Worrying about this now is premature.”
Lin Yaoqing narrowed her eyes. “So you and Huo Xuanye…”
“When the Huo family pressured you two for kids, you just pretended to agree while secretly using protection?”
Li Su gave a slight nod. “They’ve stopped pushing now.”
“You’re right. Since when can’t I handle a fiancé? Whether or not I have kids is my choice, my body, my rights!”
“Li Su, thank you for talking sense into me.”
“Maybe from now on, we should be good friends.”
Lin Yaoqing climbed out of bed.
Li Su took a step back. “I already have good friends.
Lin Yaoqing: ( ̄ー ̄)
Li Su chuckled. “I prefer being rivals with you.”
“Same here!! Once your leg’s healed, let’s compete again, I’m going to beat you!!”
“Li Su, I swear I’ll win against you at least once in this lifetime!!”
“I’ll be waiting. Go talk to them. I hope to see you at the recording tomorrow.” Li Su turned to leave. “Bye.”
