- Chapter 53 - Signing the Divorce Papers
When Huo Zhenzhou returned to the hotel after work, he spotted Zhou Motang leaning against the wall from afar.
He had no idea how long she had been waiting.
“A-Zhou.”
“You’re back.”
Zhou Moutang rubbed her eyes. “I finally waited for you.”
Huo Zhenzhou expressionlessly opened the door and entered, with Zhou Motang following closely behind and shutting the door.
Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around him from behind, pressing her face against his back. “Let’s not get divorced, okay?”
“I won’t lie to you anymore. I’ll listen to you from now on. A-Zhou, I love you. I don’t want to be apart from you…”
Huo Zhenzhou emotionlessly pried her hands away and turned around coldly.
Zhou Motang stared at him in despair. “Your heart is truly cold.”
“Before, I was moved by your kindness and promised Grandpa Zhou to take care of you, to give you a home. But now? You’ve deceived me from start to finish. How can I spend the rest of my life with you? Zhou Motang, I can’t do it.” Huo Zhenzhou loosened his tie, then pulled another divorce agreement from the drawer and tossed it onto the coffee table.
“If you don’t want a divorce, it’s only because you’re dissatisfied with the alimony. This time, it’s 400 million.”
For most ordinary people, that was more money than they could earn in several lifetimes.
With the money given, his promise was fulfilled.
She would have wealth and no worries.
Was he still determined to divorce her?
“I’ve been waiting outside for a long time. I’m a little thirsty, can I have a glass of water?”
Huo Zhenzhou gave a slight nod.
The suite Huo Zhenzhou stayed in was fully equipped with all amenities, including a refrigerator stocked with bottled water.
Zhou Motang took two glasses, poured water into both, and sprinkled something into one of them.
If Huo Zhenzhou wouldn’t come home, she had to create her own opportunity to get pregnant.
She carried the two glasses back to the living room, placing one in front of Huo Zhenzhou while sipping from the other.
Zhou Motang flipped open the divorce agreement before her. “My father will definitely be imprisoned this time. I truly have no family left, only you.”
Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at him. “Huo Zhenzhou, at a time like this, you want to divorce me. Don’t you think you’re being too cruel?”
Huo Zhenzhou’s gaze remained indifferent. Even seeing her cry felt like an act of hypocrisy. “When you deceived me, you should have considered the consequences of being found out.”
Zhou Motang pleaded, “Can’t you give me another chance?”
“I married you out of gratitude for saving my life. There was never love between us. Repaying a debt doesn’t have to mean giving oneself in marriage.”
Zhou Motang let out a bitter laugh. “You’ve taken every advantage, and now you say you want a divorce, that you don’t want to be tied to me. Huo Zhenzhou, you really… really have a heart of stone…”
Huo Zhenzhou spoke coldly, “If, back then when my family came searching for me on the island, you had handed me over to them, the Huo family would have given you a generous reward. You could have used that money to take your grandfather to the hospital. Maybe he’d still be alive today, and you’d still have family in this world.”
Zhou Motang covered her ears. “I won’t listen, I won’t listen~”
Huo Zhenzhou picked up the glass on the table and took a few sips.
His voice was icy. “At this point, divorce is the best option.”
Zhou Motang cried silently, her sobs muffled.
A wave of irritation rose in Huo Zhenzhou’s chest, and he stood up to leave.
But as he got to his feet, his head spun for a moment, and an unusual heat surged through his body. “Did you drug me?”
Zhou Motang stood up and hugged him. “I had no choice. You wouldn’t come home or pay attention to me, so I had to resort to this.”
“I love you. I don’t want to divorce you.”
“Let’s have a child. If we have a baby, you won’t divorce me…”
She stood on her tiptoes, trying to kiss him.
Huo Zhenzhou abruptly pushed her away and strode toward the door.
“Huo Zhenzhou, we’re still married, we haven’t divorced yet!”
Zhou Motang chased after him. “Don’t go!”
Huo Zhenzhou yanked the door open, grabbed her, and shoved her outside.
From the hallway, Zhou Motang pounded on the door. “Huo Zhenzhou, open up! Open the door!”
Inside, Huo Zhenzhou stumbled into the bathroom and sank into the bathtub. Cold water sprayed down, soaking his body.
Fragments of memory flickered through his mind.
For the first time, he recalled his first meeting with Li Su, how she had danced gracefully on stage like an enchanting fairy, lively and delicate, with skin like jade and bones of ice.
His body burned with fever, yet the cold water swallowed him whole.
The contrast of fire and ice tormented his brain, but his memories remained fragmented.
After leaving the hotel, Zhou Motang wandered aimlessly through the streets.
She drifted all night, and by dawn, she found herself at the gates of the Huo residence.
She spotted the old master and his wife practicing tai chi in the garden.
Slowly, she approached. In the Huo household, the old madam had always been kind to her.
But she had failed, she hadn’t conceived a child.
“Grandfather, Grandmother.”
“Why are you in such a state?” The old madam frowned. “Go wash up first.”
Zhou Motang looked haggard, her eyes bloodshot.
She burst into tears. “Grandmother, he wants a divorce. What should I do?”
The old madam sighed. “Tangtang, I once thought you were a good girl. But after what happened, it’s hard to have it both ways. A-Zhou’s marriage is his own decision. As elders, we can’t interfere. I can’t force him to love you.”
“Even though his memories aren’t fully restored, that’s just the kind of person he is, he can’t stand being deceived, especially not repeatedly.”
“Once he’s made up his mind, it’s hard to change. I can only say that you two weren’t meant to be.”
Zhou Motang’s heart turned to ashes as she listened.
How had she never considered that the old madam was Huo Zhenzhou’s grandmother?
No matter how much she liked her, it was only because she was Huo Zhenzhou’s wife.
Without Huo Zhenzhou, she was nothing.
The Huo residence wasn’t her home.
After a sleepless night of mental torment, Zhou Motang finally made her decision.
She would accept Huo Zhenzhou’s terms and divorce him.
At least she would still have the money.
Just as she was thinking this, a car pulled into the Huo estate.
The door opened, and Huo Zhenzhou stepped out, his expression icy.
Zhou Motang no longer had the right to run to him. She stood weakly in place, watching as he strode toward her with effortless grace.
This was the real Huo Zhenzhou: confident, noble, and untouchable.
He was born to be a scion of aristocracy. The three months they had spent together, and the two months of marriage, had all been stolen time.
Huo Zhenzhou greeted them politely. “Grandfather, Grandmother, good morning.”
“Good timing. The two of you should talk.”
The old master and his wife left, giving them space.
“I’m sorry about last night. I acted impulsively,” Zhou Motang murmured. “I accept your terms. I agree to the divorce.”
Huo Zhenzhou didn’t know what had changed her mind, but he was glad she had.
Huo Zhenzhou replied with a single word: “Okay.”
He was really so cold.
Zhou Motang felt as if her heart were being pricked by needles. “Then should I move out today?”
Huo Zhenzhou said icily, “The servants will help you pack. You can take everything I gave you.”
Even if she didn’t take them, they wouldn’t stay here anyway.
Huo Zhenzhou would remarry, and his next wife would surely be a wealthy heiress.
He wouldn’t want anything she left behind.
When the two returned to the room, Huo Zhenzhou’s efficiency was evident, the servants had already started packing.
Zhou Motang picked up a pen. On the divorce agreement, Huo Zhenzhou had already signed.
His handwriting was so elegant and beautiful, she would never see it again.
After signing, Zhou Motang set down the pen. “Let’s stay in touch. We’ll meet again when it’s time to finalize the divorce.”
Huo Zhenzhou’s gaze lingered on the divorce agreement as he said coldly, “You’ll be notified.”
