Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother - Chapter 47
Huo Xuanye, who had originally planned to head home, changed course and went to the company instead.
He walked into Huo Zhenzhou’s office and lazily flopped onto the sofa.
Huo Zhenzhou glanced up at him. “Back from your honeymoon?”
“Bro, why didn’t you and sis-in-law go on a honeymoon?”
“She’s considerate of my busy schedule. We’ll go when we have time later.” Huo Zhenzhou continued reviewing documents.
Considerate?
What a considerate woman indeed!
After getting married, she used the Huo family’s money to support her own relatives, that wasn’t a big deal.
Besides, a measly ten or five million was nothing.
But things weren’t that simple.
Huo Xuanye probed indirectly, “I heard sis-in-law is an orphan with no parents now. Since you’re married, bro, shouldn’t you go pay respects to her parents? I’d like to visit the island too. I wonder why we couldn’t find you there back then!”
The island where Huo Zhenzhou had lived, the Huo family had sent people to search for him there.
But they hadn’t found him.
“Did those subordinates just take the money and slack off, enjoying themselves on the island instead?”
Huo Zhenzhou paused, his cool gaze sweeping over. “What are you trying to say?”
If he told his brother outright that sis-in-law was lying to him, would he be too shocked?
Huo Xuanye spoke in a careless tone, “I just think you’ve been buried in work ever since you got back, bro, with no time for sis-in-law. She has no relatives or friends in Jing City, and she’s not familiar with the Huo family. You should make time for her.”
The reason Huo Zhenzhou immersed himself in work was that it brought him a sense of inner calm, the closest thing to how he used to feel.
Lately, fragments of memories had been resurfacing.
“I will.”
“So, bro, have you gone to pay respects?”
“I paid respects to her grandfather.”
Zhou Motang’s grandfather had died right in front of him, could that even be called paying respects?
That was a burial!
He had hinted so obviously. His brother was smart, he should be able to read between the lines.
A quick trip to the island and some questions would reveal the truth.
After leaving, Huo Xuanye still felt something was off.
Huo Zhenzhou had lived on that island for three months. Everyone said Zhou Motang only had a grandfather.
That father-daughter pair had hidden things well.
Their relationship wasn’t good.
If that unreliable father could just take the money and run off,
it wouldn’t be a big deal.
The Huo family had money to spare.
That night, after finishing his shower, Huo Zhenzhou struck up a casual conversation with Zhou Motang.
“I have no plans this weekend. What would you like to do? I’ll accompany you.”
“I… haven’t thought about it yet…”
“Should I take you back to the island for a visit?” Huo Zhenzhou leisurely towel-dried his hair.
Zhou Motang took out the hairdryer. “I just went back not long ago. I’ve lived there for over twenty years, there’s nothing new to see. Hubby, you’ve seen so much of the world. Why don’t you take me on a trip instead?”
“Sure.”
Huo Zhenzhou sat down, and Zhou Motang began blow-drying his hair.
She had lied to Huo Zhenzhou again last time, she couldn’t let him go to the island now.
Fortunately, they weren’t sitting in front of a mirror, so Huo Zhenzhou couldn’t see the panic in her eyes.
Huo Zhenzhou had given her a card. That five million could be swiped from it.
But this time, she couldn’t easily give it to Zhou Zhanpeng.
She would wait until he was truly desperate, teach him a lesson preferably after he got beaten so badly he’d never dare gamble again before saving him.
Over the next few days, Zhou Zhanpeng bombarded her with messages, demanding money.
Zhou Motang kept saying she was working on it.
The fact that he could still call and message her meant the situation wasn’t that urgent yet, he hadn’t been arrested, beaten to a pulp, or had his limbs chopped off by the other party.
Not urgent enough.
On the morning of Qixi Festival, Huo Xuanye placed the tickets on the table. “Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, Susu has a performance tonight. I saved tickets for you all. If you want to come to the venue, you can. If not, you can watch it on TV. We’re family, let’s show our support!”
“I want to go to the venue. Are there still tickets?” Zhou Motang smiled.
“Sis-in-law, they’re right there on the table!”
Zhou Motang took two tickets and glanced at Huo Zhenzhou. “Husband, let’s go together. Consider it our Qixi celebration.”
Huo Zhenzhou calmly agreed. “Sure.”
Lately, Huo Zhenzhou had been spending more time with her than before, likely because his work-related memories had recovered well, making him more efficient at his job.
Yet, she still felt uneasy.
The more memories Huo Zhenzhou regained, the more she feared he might suddenly remember everything, especially about Li Su.
Recently, Li Su had been busy with rehearsals, leaving early and returning late, so they’d barely seen each other.
Tonight’s visit to the venue was simply because she’d never been before. Now that she was the young madam of the Huo family, she wanted to experience everything she hadn’t had the chance to before.
Li Su would be performing on stage while they watched from below.
With Huo Zhenzhou sitting right beside her!
Huo Zhenzhou was her husband.
“I’ll head out first. See you at the TV station.”
Huo Xuanye still had work today.
As for Li Su…
She practically lived in the dance studio!
Twelve days had passed since they returned from their honeymoon!
His wife kept saying she was exhausted every day.
But after tonight’s performance, he could finally bring his beautiful wife home for some ahem private time.
Huo Xuanye had been looking forward to Qixi for a long time.
At 2 p.m., Li Su and her dance team took a car to the TV station.
The car parked in the basement, and they filed out one by one.
Li Su lowered her head to reply to Huo Xuanye’s message.
[Li Su: Just arrived at the TV station. See you soon.]
Huo Xuanye would’ve sent her eight hundred messages a day if he could.
She was just rehearsing at the studio, not cheating on him.
Such a clingy man.
Suddenly, a helmeted man on a motorcycle rushed out from the darkness. Hearing the noise, Li Su looked up and instinctively stepped back.
A blinding headlight flashed, and the bike shot toward her.
The man raised a steel pipe and swung it hard.
BANG!
A sharp pain shot through Li Su’s legs, and she collapsed instantly.
Blood trickled down her calves.
Cold sweat broke out from the pain, but her first thought was, it’s over…
Her legs.
Her career.
Who would do this to her…?
“Li Su!!”
“Susu!”
“Quick, call an ambulance!”
“Stop that motorcycle!”
“Hurry!”
The helmeted rider tossed the steel pipe aside and glanced back at Li Su lying on the ground, smirking until he suddenly crashed into a pillar and fell over himself.
When Huo Xuanye received Qiao Ni’s message, he was about to head into a meeting.
The moment he heard Li Su’s legs had been attacked and she’d been rushed to the hospital, his eyes darkened. He turned and bolted out.
Huo Xuanye rushed into the hospital in a panic. Outside the operating room, Li Su’s assistant, Qiao Ni, stood with red, tear-swollen eyes.
“Young Master…”
“Miss… Miss, she…”
Huo Xuanye stared fixedly at the operating room doors. “How bad is it?”
Qiao Ni nodded. “Very bad. She cried the whole way in the ambulance. She’s terrified she’ll never dance again…”
Huo Xuanye’s heart felt as if it were being torn apart by several horses galloping in all directions at once, the pain excruciating.
Li Su loved dancing more than anything.
On stage, she was confident and radiant, like the brightest star in the night sky.
Huo Xuanye’s eyes burned with fury as he demanded, “Who was it?”
“That person fell and was taken to the police station by the officers.”
Huo Xuanye wanted to go to the station but couldn’t leave the hospital.
He sent a message to his assistant, Zhuang Ze, instructing him to go instead.
Before long, Li Chen arrived with a dark expression.
He swung a punch straight at Huo Xuanye’s face. “Is this how you protect her? How you take care of her?”
Huo Xuanye knew he was at fault. He deserved the hit. “It’s all my fault.”
He should have stayed by Li Su’s side every second.
Li Chen shoved him against the wall, fist clenched again, but seeing Huo Xuanye’s devastated expression, he lowered it.
What good would hitting him do?
“She’s a dancer! Do you have any idea how important her legs are to her?”
“Huo Xuanye, if she can’t continue pursuing her passion after this, I swear I won’t let you off!!”
Huo Xuanye’s heart ached just as much as Li Chen’s. Right now, Li Su was still lying in the operating room.
Neither of them knew her condition.
Li Chen released Huo Xuanye in frustration, roaring, “Which bastard did this?”
“Have you found out yet?”
