- Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother
- Chapter 43 - Do You Like Me?
On the stage, the two stood facing each other, microphones in hand.
Li Su looked at the face before her, so strikingly similar to Huo Zhenzhou’s. Just over a month ago, Huo Xuanye had still been her brother-in-law.
And now, they were married.
How unpredictable life could be!
Perhaps that was the charm of it.
The only regret was that Huo Zhenzhou hadn’t come to witness their wedding today.
Huo Xuanye raised the microphone, his voice tender as he confessed, “Susu, in the past, I could only watch you from afar. But starting today, I can hold your hand, stand by your side, and walk with you from this moment until our hair turns white, faithful, inseparable, and never doubting each other.”
With that, he slipped the wedding ring onto her finger.
His expression was tense as he watched her, eager to hear her response yet afraid of words he didn’t want to hear.
He was conflicted.
Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced toward the audience, Huo Zhenzhou wasn’t there.
That morning, before leaving, Huo Zhenzhou had come to tell him that Zhou Motang wasn’t feeling well. He had guessed then that his brother wouldn’t attend.
Zhou Motang must have been afraid of something.
It was a shame his brother couldn’t see Li Su marrying him.
Opposite him, Li Su picked up the microphone. “Thank you for staying by my side during the darkest moments of my life. May our future be filled only with sunshine, free from storms.”
Then she took the ring and slid it onto his slender, elegant finger.
The time when Huo Zhenzhou had gone missing had been the lowest point of her life.
Huo Xuanye had been there for her, encouraging her, she hadn’t forgotten.
Cheers of blessing rose from the audience as the two embraced on stage.
The live footage of the ceremony played on a phone screen, reflecting the blurred outline of a handsome face.
Zhou Motang leaned closer. “What are you watching?”
“A live stream of the wedding.”
Huo Xuanye’s wedding was being live-streamed?
Zhou Motang reached out, covering the screen with her hand, and pouted. “Husband, I don’t feel well. I want to rest quietly. Will you lie down with me for a while?”
Huo Zhenzhou closed the stream, set his phone aside, and lay down beside her.
Nestled in his arms, Zhou Motang recalled the brief glimpse she had caught, Li Su’s wedding dress, dazzling with crystal diamonds, had looked priceless at first glance.
Huo Zhenzhou was the eldest son, the heir.
Yet her own wedding dress didn’t seem as extravagant as Li Su’s.
Was that fair?
Back at the wedding venue, Li Su divided her bridal bouquet into two parts.
One she handed to Chi Qingche, the other to Li Chen.
Holding the bouquet, Chi Qingche blushed furiously when she realized the other half was in Li Chen’s hands. She stole several shy glances at him.
Li Chen stood stiffly, his eyes not on the bouquet but fixed on the newlyweds.
Li Su smiled warmly. “I hope my brother and my best friend can also find their own happiness.”
Li Chen hadn’t expected to receive a bridal bouquet as a grown man.
What was he supposed to do with flowers?
But since his sister had given them to him, he had no choice but to accept.
After changing out of her elaborate wedding gown, Li Su slipped into a silver strapless mermaid dress and stepped out.
Side by side, she and Huo Xuanye toasted their guests.
Li Su had nothing to fear, she sipped on juice.
Huo Xuanye, however, drank liquor, though the distinguished guests weren’t the type to push for excessive drinking. A symbolic sip was enough.
Li Su regretted her earlier bravado.
She had once boasted that their guest list would outnumber Huo Zhenzhou’s wedding.
And it had.
Huo Zhenzhou’s wedding hadn’t included so many relatives from the Li family, nor as many of Huo Xuanye’s friends.
More people meant more liveliness.
But it also meant more exhausting rounds of toasts.
“I’m so tired~” Li Su muttered under her breath.
Huo Xuanye steadied her slender waist. “If getting married is this exhausting, let’s just do it once in this lifetime.”
Li Su shot him a glare.
Huo Xuanye smirked mischievously. “What’s with that look? Do you actually want to do this again?”
Li Su whispered, “If there really is a next time, we could try a different kind of wedding.”
Huo Xuanye stiffened as if facing a great enemy.
“You two go back and rest, eat and drink. Brother Chen and I will handle the rest,” Huo Xuanye said, releasing Li Su’s waist. “Miss Chi, could you please keep her company?”
Chi Qingche steadied Li Su. “Got it!”
Just for the diamond and gold bars Huo Xuanye had given her as bridesmaid favors, she was determined to take good care of Li Su today.
Li Su and Chi Qingche sat down to eat at the main guest table.
They were the only two at the table.
Chi Qingche glanced around. “Babe, I feel a little awkward!”
Li Su remained perfectly composed. “It’s fine. They’ll join us soon.”
Even under the watchful gaze of the Huo family matriarch, Li Su ate as if nothing were amiss.
Before long, Huo Xuanye and Li Chen returned after making their rounds with the toasts.
Having drunk their fill, it was time to eat something to settle their stomachs.
So annoying, so annoying.
Li Su went to change again.
This time, she switched into a simple red dress.
As the music started, Li Su and Huo Xuanye swayed happily on the dance floor.
With new shoes, Li Su moved lightly, her eyes smiling, her expression alone showed how much she was enjoying herself.
Li Su asked softly, “Since when do you know how to dance?”
“I’m good at everything, wifey. This is nothing,” he replied.
Moving to the rhythm, with a professional dancer like his wife by his side, no one would pay attention to a man like him, they’d only watch the beautiful, graceful Li Su.
For Li Su, this was the most relaxed and enjoyable part of the day.
After the dance, Li Su held Huo Xuanye’s hand and glanced at the seats below.
Huo Zhenzhou’s spot was still empty.
Beside it sat the elders of the Huo and Li families.
Mom, Dad, don’t worry. Your daughter will be happy.
And if I’m not, I’ll leave on my own.
Suddenly, Li Su was pulled into Huo Xuanye’s arms with a firm tug.
They held each other tightly.
Li Su could feel his heartbeat, the heat radiating from his body, and his heavy breaths.
“Huo Xuanye~”
“Have you fallen in love with me?”
Her voice was soft and melodious, laced with a hint of amusement.
Huo Xuanye froze.
Li Su patted him lightly. “Too scared to answer?”
“I-”
Huo Xuanye took Li Su’s hand and led her away.
They didn’t go far, just to the bridal changing room next to the venue, where he locked the door behind them.
Inside, the two faced each other.
Huo Xuanye lowered his head slightly, his deep dark eyes fixed on her exquisite face. “You… why did you ask that just now?”
“I was just guessing. If not, forget it~” Li Su said breezily. “You’re overreacting.”
Just guessing?
How could she guess so accurately?
“Was I right?”
Li Su tilted her head with a smile. “Huo Xuanye, when did you start liking me?”
Huo Xuanye’s ears turned red. “No, I told you, I just pitied you for having no husband, so I compensated by being yours! Otherwise, how could I stand by and watch you pine away for my brother? That would make me worse than an animal.”
Li Su nodded slightly.
Fine.
Keep pretending.
Keep it up.
Li Su: “Then why did you bring me into the room and lock the door? What secret do you want to tell me?”
“Can I ask you for a wedding gift?”
“What?”
Huo Xuanye whispered, “Delete everything related to my brother from your phone…”
“Then you still say you don’t like me.”
Li Su lightly tapped his chest with her fingertip. “Huo Xuanye, is liking me something to be ashamed of?”
