- Chapter 21 - Watching Li Su’s Performance
[Wife: You should go grab a meal too.]
What a heartless woman, she’s actually his wife!
[Huo Xuanye: Darling, I also want to eat the lunch you personally deliver.]
If only Li Su could bring him lunch one day.
He’d definitely announce it to the entire company!
[Wife: You know I don’t cook.]
[Huo Xuanye: I said deliver, not that you had to make it yourself.]
[Wife: Then just wait.]
Li Su told him to wait.
Did that mean she was going to bring him lunch?
“Go eat by yourself at noon.”
Zhuang Ze was baffled. “Boss, aren’t you eating? There’s no business lunch scheduled for today!”
“My wife is coming.”
Back when Li Su was dating Huo Zhenzhou, she had visited the Huo Corporation many times.
She was very familiar with the layout here.
The staff at Huo Corporation wouldn’t stop her either.
Huo Xuanye returned to his office, leaning back lazily, his gaze falling on a photo of Li Su he had taken from his brother’s office.
It was a picture of Li Su dancing gracefully on stage, bathed in light, pure and gentle, completely immersed in her art. She was born to dance, radiant in every way.
Time slipped by unnoticed.
Zhuang Ze pushed open the office door. “Has the Second Young Madam not arrived yet?”
Only then did Huo Xuanye glance at the clock on the desk, 12:40.
“Is traffic bad today?”
“Not at all!”
“Maybe she’s on the way. I’ll wait a little longer.” Huo Xuanye closed his eyes.
He wasn’t hungry.
He was waiting for his wife.
“Should we call the Second Young Madam and ask?” Zhuang Ze tiptoed closer. “Waiting indefinitely isn’t a solution.”
Should he call?
Huo Xuanye opened his eyes, said nothing, and just stared at him.
Zhuang Ze blinked innocently, then took the hint and backed away.
He closed the door.
Then pressed his ear against it, trying to eavesdrop.
But he couldn’t hear a thing.
The office soundproofing was too good.
Huo Xuanye called Li Su. As the ringtone played, a wave of grievance surged in his chest.
He was so hungry…
Wife, when are you coming?
The call connected.
Huo Xuanye put on a pitiful, weak tone: “Wife, where are you?”
“I’m at the TV station.”
Huo Xuanye’s world collapsed: “The TV station?? Didn’t you say you were bringing me lunch and told me to wait? Why are you at the TV station?”
Li Su hadn’t come at all.
He had actually waited like an idiot for an hour!!!
Even his sister-in-law had already left.
“When I said ‘wait,’ I meant I’m busy today, maybe another time.” Li Su picked up on his sulking. “Huo Xuanye, don’t tell me you still haven’t eaten?”
“No. I might as well starve to death.”
“Don’t be so childish, okay?”
Back when Li Su could date his brother, aside from his looks, there must have been other qualities that attracted her.
His brother was mature and steady, never acting childish or jealous in front of Li Su.
If he wanted to replace his brother’s place in Li Su’s heart, he couldn’t keep behaving like this.
Huo Xuanye instantly switched gears: “I was joking. I just wanted an excuse to call you. Are you rehearsing tonight? I’ll come watch you then.”
“Sure.”
Li Su actually agreed.
In the past, only his brother had enjoyed that privilege!
He forgave her for not bringing him lunch today.
After hanging up, Huo Xuanye had Zhuang Ze bring him lunch.
When Zhuang Ze entered the office with the meal, he couldn’t resist saying, “See? I told you we should’ve called to confirm earlier.”
“Shut up.”
Zhuang Ze obediently stepped out, he still wanted his year-end bonus and couldn’t afford to mess with it.
Huo Xuanye left work early and headed to the TV station. He bought milk tea and small cakes for the staff, and Qiao Ni, Li Su’s assistant, led him to a front-row seat.
So this was the kind of treatment his brother used to get.
Nice!
Huo Xuanye had accompanied his brother to watch many of Li Su’s live performances before. Looking back now, his enthusiasm back then had nothing to do with her being his future sister-in-law.
He just wanted to see Li Su.
He liked her, he just hadn’t realized it.
The stage was set in an ancient Dunhuang style. As the lights shifted, Li Su appeared on stage in vibrant Dunhuang-inspired attire, spinning, leaping, flicking her sleeves, drumming, doing splits, her movements were lively, light, and full of vitality, creating an immersive experience.
One dance to captivate a city, another to enchant a nation.
Watching her, Huo Xuanye’s yandere tendencies were about to explode. He wanted to hide Li Su away, to keep her performances for his eyes only.
But then he’d definitely get slapped by her, left cheek first, then right.
Don’t be fooled by Li Su’s slender arms and legs, she was actually quite strong. Dancing required strength.
As the dance ended, Li Su smiled and asked, “Director, was that okay?”
The director replied, “Absolutely perfect! As expected of Ms. Li!”
“No need for another take?”
“This was already the third one. Ms. Li, your husband is here, you can go rest now!” The director pointed in Huo Xuanye’s direction.
Huo Xuanye stood up and walked toward her.
The dance was beautiful.
But that costume…
Why was there a gap at the waist, even revealing her navel?
Huo Xuanye’s heart soured.
But what good did his jealousy do? This was art. Li Su would keep dancing in the future, wearing all kinds of beautiful costumes.
Calm down!
Stay calm.
“I’ll go change first,” Li Su said.
Huo Xuanye walked to the edge of the stage and spread his arms. “Come down.”
Was he crazy?!
The stairs were right there.
And with people still around, Huo Xuanye stood there with his arms open, making it clear that if she didn’t step down right in front of him, he’d stay planted there like a statue.
Li Su walked to the edge of the stage and lightly dropped down, landing securely in Huo Xuanye’s arms.
Huo Xuanye buried his face against her shoulder and took a deep breath, a full, lung-filling inhale, savoring her scent, reluctant to let her go.
“Huo Xuanye, I need to change,” Li Su reminded him softly.
“I’ll carry you.”
Li Su: “…”
This was mortifying.
She couldn’t face anyone now.
What the hell was Huo Xuanye thinking?!
Burying her face against his shoulder, Li Su decided that if she couldn’t see anyone, then it wasn’t really her in this situation.
The bright, flowing fabric of her costume draped against Huo Xuanye’s all-black modern suit, a striking contrast between ancient attire and contemporary style, creating an unexpectedly beautiful clash.
“Are you punishing me for not bringing you lunch at noon?” Li Su murmured against his neck.
Making her lose face in front of so many people…
She had rehearsed three times and was tired, but not so exhausted that she couldn’t walk and needed to be carried.
“Of course not. Your husband just pities you.”
Huo Xuanye simply wanted to hold Li Su.
The backstage was crowded, but Huo Xuanye had been there before with Huo Zhenzhou, so he knew his way around. Without needing directions, he headed straight for Li Su’s dressing room.
Once inside, he set her down on the vanity table, his left hand wrapping around her waist, this time, his palm pressed directly against her warm skin, no fabric in between, while his right hand cupped her face.
His heartbeat quickened, desire swirling in his eyes. In a breathless moment, his lips crashed against hers in a searing, feverish kiss.
