- Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother
- Chapter 19 - Feeding Lychee
Huo Xuanye glanced at Li Su, waiting for her slight nod before responding to the matriarch, “Of course. Just have the master pick a date before the 8th or 9th of next month for my brother and sister-in-law.”
It was fine if they held their wedding first.
But they couldn’t use the auspicious date he and Li Su had chosen.
That date had been calculated by the master based on their birth charts.
It wasn’t suitable for every couple.
He pulled Li Su to sit on the opposite sofa and began peeling a lychee from the table.
The tender, white flesh, free of its pit and fragrant with sweetness, was brought to Li Su’s lips.
What was Huo Xuanye doing now?
Couldn’t he just stay still for a moment?
Li Su reluctantly opened her mouth. The lychee was cool and refreshing, deliciously sweet.
But,
She leaned close to Huo Xuanye’s ear and whispered, “Are your hands even clean? You peel lychees like this, you eat this one yourself.”
Huo Xuanye paused mid-peel. “If it were my brother peeling it for you, you wouldn’t complain, would you~”
Did he think the people across from them couldn’t hear?
Huo Zhenzhou had lost his memory, not his hearing!
Huo Zhenzhou could only pretend he hadn’t heard.
Zhou Motang watched the pair across from them, especially how Huo Xuanye was even peeling lychees for Li Su. So, even a wealthy young master knew how to pamper someone.
Had Huo Zhenzhou treated Li Su like that before?
It seemed their relationship had truly been good.
The others, too, pretended not to hear.
The matriarch made the final decision: “Have the master come tomorrow.”
Huo Bowen replied, “Understood, Mother.”
The old lady then turned to Huo Xuanye. “One more thing. News of Zhenzhou’s return has spread, but he hasn’t made a public appearance yet. There’s bound to be speculation. We’ll host a banquet to officially announce his return and introduce Tangtang to everyone. You’ve always enjoyed banquets, I’ll leave this to you.”
“Of course, no problem. The question is whether my brother is ready to face the public again.” Huo Xuanye leisurely wiped his hands.
If Li Su wasn’t eating, he wouldn’t peel anymore.
Feeling everyone’s gaze, Huo Zhenzhou said firmly, “I can do it.”
Huo Bowen added, “No one outside knows about the memory loss. On the night of the banquet, Xuanye, you’ll stay by your brother’s side.”
“Dad, I know what you mean. Before the banquet, we’ll have my brother familiarize himself with photos of those people. But on the night itself, it won’t be appropriate for me to stick too close, after all, sister-in-law will be there.” Huo Xuanye smiled. “Brother, your former assistant left to get married. It’s time to call him back to work.”
Huo Zhenzhou’s return was public knowledge.
But his memory loss remained undisclosed.
They couldn’t let anyone notice.
“A’ye is thorough,” Huo Qiangcang said. “Then it’s settled. You just returned from the temple, go rest in your room.”
The matriarch’s gaze settled on Li Su. “Susu, A-zhou wronged you, but it wasn’t intentional. He doesn’t even remember us now. Now that you’re married to A’ye, Grandma hopes you can let go of the past and build a good life with him.”
Li Su replied politely, “Grandma, I’ll let it go. It wouldn’t be fair to A’ye otherwise.”
Huo Xuanye’s heart skipped a beat, Li Su had actually considered him first.
The bond after a kiss really was different.
The matriarch continued, “Susu, Grandma has one more favor to ask.”
A favor?
The old lady had never used that word before.
Li Su smiled gently. “Grandma, please go ahead.”
Old Madam Huo said, “Grandma is getting on in years, and my body can’t keep up. Tangtang is practically your sister-in-law now, and you two are sisters-in-law. You’ve received proper etiquette training since childhood. For her to integrate into high society, she’ll need to learn etiquette too. Could you help Grandma teach her?”
Though phrased as a request, it was clearly an order.
“Grandma, that won’t do!” Huo Xuanye refused instantly. “She’s been swamped with work lately, rehearsals, coming home exhausted, she simply doesn’t have the time! Besides, if word got out, people might think the Huo family is going bankrupt, unable to even afford an etiquette teacher. Where would that leave the Huo family’s reputation?”
Li Su shot Huo Xuanye an approving glance.
Even if he hadn’t spoken up, she would have refused herself.
But her refusal wouldn’t have carried the same weight as his.
“Mother, I’ve already considered this. I’ve contacted an excellent etiquette teacher who’ll start tomorrow,” Xiao Qiyu interjected, though she hadn’t actually made any arrangements yet.
But there was no other choice.
She had to say it.
One daughter-in-law married to the elder son, another to the younger.
Li Su couldn’t possibly have forgotten her feelings for Huo Zhenzhou in just a few days.
Asking her to teach Zhou Motang etiquette would be too cruel.
She truly didn’t understand what the old lady was thinking.
Had a hundred days at the temple left her senile?
Did she really want to stir up more chaos at home?
Old Madam Huo’s face fell. “Since you’ve already made arrangements, there’s nothing left for this old woman to do.”
She then turned to Zhou Motang with gentle admonishment: “Tangtang, study hard. Don’t embarrass A-Zhou.”
Zhou Motang replied obediently, “Grandma, I will.”
Old Madam Huo and the old master then took their leave.
Huo Xuanye pulled Li Su to her feet. “Brother, we’ll see you in the study later.”
“Alright.”
Ten minutes later, Huo Xuanye entered the study to find Huo Zhenzhou already seated inside, his gaze unfocused, clearly distracted, lost in thought.
“Brother!”
Huo Zhenzhou snapped back to attention. “You’re here.”
“What’s on your mind?”
Huo Xuanye strode over and scrutinized Huo Zhenzhou’s face. “Ah, Brother Chen really went too hard on you. The bruising hasn’t even faded yet.”
The news online and the family photos all confirmed to Huo Zhenzhou that he and Li Su had indeed been engaged.
During the three months he was missing, Li Su had wasted away from grief for him.
Getting beaten up by her brother was nothing compared to the pain of betraying someone’s sincerity.
“I’m fine. But you, staying by her side as my substitute, you’ve suffered for my sake.”
Suffered?
He’d married the beautiful woman he adored, how was that suffering?
Huo Zhenzhou spoke earnestly, “You sacrificed yourself for your brother. Be careful, I worry she might turn her love into hatred and take it out on you. That would make my guilt even heavier.”
Huh?
What?
Take it out on him?
If Li Su wanted revenge, shouldn’t it be directed at Huo Zhenzhou himself?
Li Su wasn’t the type to confuse right and wrong.
Huo Xuanye’s mind raced. “Brother, you’re right. So, I’ve decided that after the wedding, we’ll go on a honeymoon. We won’t stay home and bother you two. But if we’re away, you’ll have to handle the company. How about this, today, I’ll teach you to recognize people, and tomorrow, we’ll go to the office together!”
“Alright.”
Night fell, the sky studded with stars.
The room was quiet and serene.
Huo Xuanye embraced Li Su from behind, their bodies pressed close, intimate as nested spoons.
Li Su felt waves of heat radiating from head to toe, and she couldn’t help but speak up, “Huo Xuanye, aren’t you hot?”
Huo Xuanye murmured in a low voice, “Darling, maybe it’s your heart that’s hot?”
“What do you mean by ‘heart hot’?”
His slender fingers trailed down her arm to her wrist, lingering for a moment before sliding further to intertwine with hers.
Huo Xuanye’s lips brushed against her shoulder as he whispered in a husky voice, “The kind of heat that burns with desire…”
