Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 69
“Just as you saw earlier,” Xu Zhiyi said, “Ruan Yang and I just got together today.”
“Just today?” Shi Fangxuan was taken aback once more, then realized, “So I happened to witness it at just the right moment.”
But soon, she remembered, “But your relationship, wasn’t it.”
She seemed to be quickly searching her mind for the right words to describe their relationship, but after thinking for a while, none seemed quite appropriate.
Fortunately, Xu Zhiyi broke the awkward silence: “We’re no longer sisters. Not only did her mother not marry my father, but her mother has already moved out of my house. Now, we’re just a very ordinary couple.”
After emphasizing their current relationship, Xu Zhiyi continued, “Given the unique nature of our past relationship, I don’t want this to affect her future. Although we got together after her mother moved out, the timing is still too close. Right now, only you know about this, Sister Fangxuan, so I hope you can keep it a secret for us.”
She added, “Thank you.”
In Shi Fangxuan’s memory, this seemed to be the first time she had seen Xu Zhiyi speak with such sincerity and a pleading tone. She smiled and nodded, “Don’t worry.”
As she spoke, she began to feel a bit emotional: “To be honest, if I hadn’t stumbled upon you two today, I would never have guessed there was this kind of relationship between you. I can tell that Xiao Ruan is a very talented and capable young woman, and I really like her. I hope she can use her talents to go far and achieve great things in this industry.”
Thinking that if she had a daughter, she might be around Xu Zhiyi’s age, Shi Fangxuan couldn’t help but pat her hand and advise gently, “Then, take good care of your relationship with Xiao Ruan.”
“Of course,” Xu Zhiyi nodded, a warmth spreading across her smile.
She would.
“You used to flaunt your relationships, never avoiding the paparazzi, almost as if you wanted the whole world to know. But now, you’re being so secretive,” Shi Fangxuan teased.
It was only then that Xu Zhiyi realized this herself. She thought about it and found it to be true.
“She’s different,” Xu Zhiyi smiled.
Before, she hadn’t understood what true affection meant. She thought liking someone and being in a relationship was just holding hands, having meals together, and finding someone to be with.
But after falling for Ruan Yang, she gradually came to understand that affection involves jealousy, worry, fear, and constant longing.
And being in a relationship means having an emotional anchor, having all your thoughts and feelings reciprocated, and being genuinely cherished.
It’s what makes her want to become a better version of herself.
All of this was something Ruan Yang had helped her realize. Ruan Yang was different from everyone else.
Thinking about this, Xu Zhiyi felt she missed Ruan Yang even more.
Why hasn’t she finished her work yet? Why hasn’t she come to find me? she wondered.
Just as she was missing Ruan Yang intensely, there was a knock at the door. Xu Zhiyi’s eyes lit up, and she looked up, expecting to see Ruan Yang, only to find Jiang Jiang walking in with two servings of sweet soup.
“Zhiyi Jie, the sweet soup you ordered has arrived. I brought it for you.”
The light in Xu Zhiyi’s eyes quickly dimmed again. She pressed her lips together and murmured “Mm,” then said, “Just put it on the table.”
“Is this the one you bought for Ruan Yang? Did I accidentally eat the portion you meant for her?” Shi Fangxuan asked, looking at the sweet soup Jiangjiang had placed in front of her.
“Ruan Yang doesn’t like sweet soup,” Xu Zhiyi replied, her voice inexplicably lacking its earlier vitality. The sweet soup was still warm. She scooped up a spoonful of sweetened red beans and said, “I bought two servings because I planned to bring them to you so we could eat together.”
On her way over, she had already asked Ruan Yang. Ruan Yang had promised to be honest about her likes and dislikes, so when Xu Zhiyi asked, instead of saying “anything is fine” as she used to, Ruan Yang clearly stated that she wasn’t particularly fond of sweets.
That could be considered progress.
Only after hearing this did Shi Fangxuan genuinely relax. “That’s good,” she said.
A smile spread across her face, and the two of them finally opened their sweet soups and began to eat.
The room was warm, and after finishing the sweet soup, they both felt much more refreshed. Shi Fangxuan chatted with Xu Zhiyi for a little longer before finally standing up to say goodbye.
After sitting quietly alone for a while, faint footsteps could be heard at the door again.
Xu Zhiyi’s eyes instantly lit up. This time, she recognized it, it had to be Ruan Yang’s footsteps.
Sure enough, the door to the lounge opened once more, and Ruan Yang walked in, brushing the snow off her clothes.
At a glance, she spotted Xu Zhiyi, who had taken off her down jacket and was sitting obediently in a chair, waiting for her. Her bright eyes were fixed intently on the door. Ruan Yang paused mid-motion, her hand still brushing off the snow.
She stood at the doorway for a moment, a gentle aura enveloping her, dispelling all the cold.
Suddenly, her lips curved into a soft smile, and she said gently, “Let’s go.”
“We’re heading back now.”
“Mm, mm!” Xu Zhiyi stood up almost immediately. She smiled too, slipping on her down jacket without a moment’s hesitation before trotting over to Ruan Yang’s side.
Ruan Yang glanced down at Xu Zhiyi’s shoes, they didn’t seem waterproof.
“It just snowed again, and there’s a layer of snow on the ground,” she said, opening the door and standing outside. “Let me carry you on my back. If you catch a cold, it’ll be troublesome.”
Ruan Yang might look slender, but she was far from weak. Her arms had well-defined muscles, and she even had visible abdominal lines Xu Zhiyi knew all this.
Because of that, she wasn’t worried about being too heavy for Ruan Yang and unhesitatingly hopped onto her back.
“Then I’ll trouble you, Yangyang,” she said, wrapping her arms around Ruan Yang’s neck.
Xu Zhiyi wasn’t heavy, and Ruan Yang caught her steadily, even giving her a light bounce to help her settle in more comfortably.
When she heard the name “Yangyang,” Ruan Yang gazed out at the vast snowy scene before her, feeling inexplicably dazed.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Zhiyi asked, sensing that Ruan Yang had stopped moving.
“Nothing,” Ruan Yang replied, tightening her grip on Xu Zhiyi. “Can you call me that from now on?”
Xu Zhiyi nuzzled her chin against Ruan Yang’s neck, her voice sweet and soft.
“Okay, Yangyang.”
Only then did Ruan Yang turn around, close the lounge door, and begin carrying Xu Zhiyi step by step toward the parking lot.
It was snowing, and everyone was in a hurry to return home to rest. There weren’t many people on the road, so the two of them strolled along leisurely. From time to time, a few snowflakes would land on Ruan Yang’s head or shoulders, and Xu Zhiyi would gently brush them away with her hand.
Ruan Yang quietly savored her gestures.
For Ruan Yang, this moment, though cold, was one she would never forget.
“What did Fangxuan want to talk to you about earlier?” she asked casually, remembering halfway through their walk.
The question inevitably reminded Xu Zhiyi of what Shi Fangxuan had just said. She had wanted to ask Ruan Yang if she minded her past romantic entanglements, but then she thought today was only their first day together.
On such a beautiful day, she didn’t want to spoil the tranquility with such a dampening question.
So she shook her head. “Nothing much. She just came to apologize. Honestly, she didn’t really do anything wrong.”
Ruan Yang felt the same way, but she still asked, “What about your father? What are you going to do about him?”
She knew all too well that the relationship between Xu Zhiyi and her father, Xu Rongjiang, had deteriorated to the point where it wouldn’t improve in the slightest, even if Ruan Yang and her mother moved out of the Xu household.
At the mention of Xu Rongjiang, Xu Zhiyi’s eyes turned cold. “I’ve already had the people my grandfather left behind slowly strip him of his power and shares.”
In the past, Xu Zhiyi might have held onto a sliver of hope for her father believing that even if he didn’t love her mother, he was at least a principled man and a competent manager.
But his harassment of Shi Fangxuan shattered the last bit of illusion she had clung to for so long.
If her father couldn’t dutifully safeguard the legacy her grandfather had left behind and instead went around provoking other women, then having him step down from the company and retire early might be the best choice.
Ruan Yang naturally had no objections to Xu Zhiyi’s decision. The snow seemed to be picking up again, so she quickened her pace. “I’m sure your decision is the right one.”
“Don’t worry,” Xu Zhiyi smiled again. “Even if my father leaves Ruochu, you’ll still be the director of this film.”
Ruan Yang wasn’t particularly concerned about that. She believed she had already given her best to the project. Most of the crucial scenes were already shot, and even if she were to leave now, the final product wouldn’t suffer much.
She remained silent, but Xu Zhiyi didn’t mind. It seemed that as long as the two of them were together, Xu Zhiyi was content, everything felt right.
Swinging her arm, Xu Zhiyi caught a few snowflakes in her palm. “When I was little, my mother used to carry me home like this. Back then, our family was still happy. Even though my father rarely came home, he was still my mother’s emotional anchor at the time.”
Her tone was filled with emotion.
When her mother had that emotional anchor, her condition would improve significantly.
“We’ll have a home of our own someday,” Ruan Yang murmured softly, glancing at the melted snow in Xu Zhiyi’s palm, as if making a small but solemn vow to the snowflakes.
“What?” Xu Zhiyi didn’t catch what she said.
“We’re here.” Ruan Yang didn’t repeat herself. She took the car keys from Xu Zhiyi, opened the car door, and helped her inside.
“Can you drive?” Xu Zhiyi didn’t move, continuing to lean lazily against Ruan Yang. “I’m a bit tired and don’t feel like driving anymore.”
“I…” Ruan Yang bit her lip, unusually flustered, and sighed. “I don’t know how to drive.”
Xu Zhiyi found this amusing and chuckled. “Come to think of it, I’ve never actually seen you drive. Why haven’t you learned? It would make things much more convenient.”
Ruan Yang suddenly grew somewhat uncomfortable, her voice softening further. “I’m afraid to.”
Even though her voice was barely audible, Xu Zhiyi still caught it. Her eyes curved into crescents as she teased, “What did you say? I didn’t quite hear that. Say it again.”
This person was far too mischievous. Ruan Yang refused to fall for it and, under the pretense of supporting Xu Zhiyi’s legs, gave her a light pinch.
Xu Zhiyi was extremely ticklish, and the pinch sent a shiver through her body, making her laugh again. “Hey, stop that! Alright, alright, I won’t make fun of you anymore.”
She then patted Ruan Yang’s shoulder, signaling for her to place her in the driver’s seat. “I guess I’m not that tired after all. I’ll drive.”
Ruan Yang had no choice but to comply, settling Xu Zhiyi into the driver’s seat before getting into the passenger seat herself. As she did, she caught sight of Xu Zhiyi still smiling in the rearview mirror.
She sighed helplessly. “Stop laughing.”
Afraid that Ruan Yang might tickle her again, Xu Zhiyi suppressed her smile. “Mm, alright. Whatever you say, Director.”
With that, she started the car.
The snow was falling heavier now. Xu Zhiyi turned on the car’s heater, and a warm, gentle breeze brushed against their faces.
It felt like an embrace.
The moment the car began to move, Xu Zhiyi found herself wondering was she really such a romantic?
Why did it feel so natural being with Ruan Yang, as if they had always been this way?
The tires pressed into the snowy ground, crunching softly under the accumulating snow.
Side by side, they drove on, disappearing together into the swirling snowstorm.
