Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 67.1
The night passed quickly, and it was almost noon the next day when Ruan Yang, lying in the hospital bed, finally stirred.
Xu Zhiyi, who had been resting on the sofa, immediately opened her eyes at the faint sound and hurried to Ruan Yang’s bedside.
Ruan Yang was already awake. She pressed the call button and urgently summoned the doctor.
“Are you feeling better?” Xu Zhiyi asked anxiously.
“…” Ruan Yang rubbed her temples and glanced around, realizing she was in the hospital. She looked at the needle mark on the back of her hand and nodded. “Yes, much better.”
Just then, the doctor arrived. After checking Ruan Yang’s condition, the doctor confirmed that she was indeed doing much better than the day before and said she could be discharged with some medication to take home.
After seeing the doctor out, Xu Zhiyi sat down on the chair beside Ruan Yang’s bed.
She had barely slept all night, and after drinking so much the previous evening, her head was still throbbing painfully. She scrutinized Ruan Yang from head to toe, confirming that her complexion had indeed improved significantly, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’m sorry.” Scenes from the previous night had replayed in Xu Zhiyi’s mind all night long. No matter how hard she tried to distract herself, her thoughts always circled back to the image of Ruan Yang sitting on the sofa, clutching her stomach, her forehead glistening with cold sweat.
She apologized.
Ruan Yang’s energy had indeed improved, but she still felt somewhat weak. She adjusted to a more comfortable position, then turned her head and noticed Xu Zhiyi’s slightly disheveled hair.
There were faint dark circles under her eyes, clear signs of a sleepless night likely spent keeping watch over her.
Her fingers twitched slightly, wanting to reach out and tidy Xu Zhiyi’s hair, but after a moment’s hesitation, she held back.
She simply shook her head and said, “You don’t need to apologize. I chose to eat it myself.”
“But…” But I was the one who told Qu Shanshan that you like spicy food.
Xu Zhiyi opened her mouth, intending to say more, but realizing Ruan Yang’s stance, she decided it was unnecessary.
So she changed the subject and asked seriously, “If you can’t handle spicy food, why have I never heard you mention it before when we ate together?”
Ruan Yang fell silent. She stared at Xu Zhiyi for a long time, tilted her head, and suddenly said, “I like spicy food. I just can’t handle it very well.”
For some reason, Xu Zhiyi didn’t quite believe the sincerity of that statement.
But she didn’t press further, only sighed and said, “From now on, you have to tell me what you like and what you don’t, okay?”
Her tone was almost like coaxing a child. Ruan Yang’s eyes flickered, a faint smile curling her lips as she softly replied, “Mm.”
Then, she finally reached out, gently tucking the stray strands of hair that had been messy all night behind Xu Zhiyi’s ear and smoothing down a few unruly locks on top of her head.
After doing this, her mood lifted noticeably, but she couldn’t help recalling the previous night, the image of Xu Zhiyi brushing her fallen hair aside, her red lips curved as she provocatively asked if she wanted to kiss.
Before she even realized it, Ruan Yang’s hand had drifted to her own lips.
“Last night.”
That gesture seemed to trigger something in Xu Zhiyi’s mind, and she, too, remembered her bold, teasing invitation to Ruan Yang the night before.
Although she had indeed drunk alcohol last night, Xu Zhiyi had carefully controlled the amount. She knew her limits well, so she hadn’t gotten truly drunkju st tipsy enough to feel it but not enough to lose her senses.
But the moment Ruan Yang stepped in, the moment she held her, that slight tipsiness surged to a dizzying haze, overwhelming her and forcing her to lose control.
Now, hearing Ruan Yang bring up last night again, Xu Zhiyi could feel the heat rising to her cheeks, her headache momentarily forgotten.
She regretted drinking so much, yet without it, she wouldn’t have been able to deceive Ruan Yang.
With that thought, her gaze grew evasive.
Seeing Xu Zhiyi’s expression, Ruan Yang’s jaw tightened.
She knew she had to take the initiative and demand an answer.
“You said before it wasn’t the right time, that I should wait a little longer.” She suppressed all her emotions beneath a calm tone, forcing herself to ask coolly, “What about now? Is it time now?”
She had already moved out of the Xu family home. She could openly pursue Xu Zhiyi now, could speak her heart aloud.
She feared nothing except Xu Zhiyi not seeing her.
This was something Xu Zhiyi had told Ruan Yang back when filming had just begun. Xu Zhiyi knew Ruan Yang was waiting, just like she was.
In truth, she had waited a long time too.
The hospital room fell into an unusually heavy silence. Xu Zhiyi’s gaze settled on Ruan Yang’s face, noticing how tense her shoulders and arms were beneath the patient gown.
Ruan Yang was always like this never showing anything, never revealing any vulnerability to others.
It’s time. We’ve both waited long enough.
The words rose to her throat, but just as Xu Zhiyi was about to speak, Ruan Yang’s phone on the bedside table suddenly buzzed.
Xu Zhiyi flinched slightly for no apparent reason.
Ruan Yang noted her reaction, then glanced down at her phone. It was a message from the film crew’s group chat. She still had filming duties today, and at this hour, she hadn’t shown up yet likely the assistant directors were checking in on her.
She didn’t open the phone, instead keeping her eyes fixed on Xu Zhiyi.
“Aren’t you going to check it?” Xu Zhiyi asked, seeing that Ruan Yang had no intention of looking at her phone.
Ruan Yang shook her head.
The assistant directors were all experienced. The crew could manage perfectly fine without her. Right now, all she wanted was Xu Zhiyi’s answer.
“Maybe you should take a look,” Xu Zhiyi insisted. “It seemed like someone else messaged you last night too. What if it’s something important?”
Ruan Yang keenly sensed something off in Xu Zhiyi’s tone and expression, though it felt almost like a trick of her mind.
Reluctantly, she picked up her phone, unlocked it, and opened the messaging app. But as soon as she saw the screen, her brows furrowed deeply, and her eyes grew complicated.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Zhiyi asked.
“Qu…” Ruan Yang’s fingers tightened around the phone, as if she were carefully weighing her words. “Qu Shanshan, she…”
She trailed off, unable to continue for a long moment.
Xu Zhiyi listened quietly, not pressing her to finish.
In truth, she didn’t need Ruan Yang to say it at all. She had read that message so many times last night she remembered every word clearly.
Last night, with alcohol clouding her judgment, she almost deleted that message.
Fortunately, her rationality returned just in time, stopping her from doing so. She then marked the message as unread again, turned off her phone, and put it away.
“Qu Shanshan said she wants to meet me,” Ruan Yang hesitated for a moment. “She said she has something very important to tell me.”
Receiving such a message was both surprising and not entirely unexpected to Ruan Yang.
She had never paid much attention to Qu Shanshan, but occasionally, she could sense that Qu Shanshan seemed overly enthusiastic toward her.
Especially recently.
“Then go,” Xu Zhiyi said in a calm tone, her emotions unreadable.
Ruan Yang glanced up at Xu Zhiyi, lost in thought for a while before finally saying, “Do you know something? Is that why you told her those things?”
But Xu Zhiyi didn’t answer. Instead, she tucked the blanket around Ruan Yang and suddenly said, “After you meet Qu Shanshan, I’ll tell you the answer to the question you just asked.”
When Xu Zhiyi lowered her head, Ruan Yang could only see her long, delicate eyelashes. Only from this angle did Xu Zhiyi appear completely non-confrontational and exceptionally gentle.
A smile curved at the corner of Ruan Yang’s lips. “Okay.”
In the afternoon, after being discharged from the hospital, Xu Zhiyi drove Ruan Yang to the café where Qu Shanshan had arranged to meet.
When they arrived, Xu Zhiyi parked the car in the lot in front of the café. They were already on the outskirts of the city, near a villa area with sparse crowds. The café was particularly quiet, likely opened by some wealthy person as a casual venture.
Ten minutes earlier, Qu Shanshan had messaged Ruan Yang to say she had already arrived and sent her location. Ruan Yang opened the car door to get out, but Xu Zhiyi suddenly called out to stop her.
“That day,” Xu Zhiyi’s hand rested on the steering wheel as she turned her head to look at Ruan Yang, her beautiful eyes hidden behind sunglasses, “the day Qu Shanshan came to the lounge to find you, what were the two of you whispering about in the corner?”
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Ruan Yang froze for a second. She glanced at the time on the car’s display it was 1:30 p.m.
“In half an hour,” she said, “you’ll know.”
Xu Zhiyi: “…”
She raised an eyebrow. “You’re keeping me in suspense now?”
“Fine, I’ll wait,” Xu Zhiyi took off her sunglasses. “Go on and meet her.”
Ruan Yang, seeing her demeanor as if she were about to leave, lowered her eyes, her tone softening. “Aren’t you going to wait for me?”
If one listened carefully, there was a faint hint of grievance in her voice.
Xu Zhiyi snapped back to reality, momentarily wondering if she had misheard.
Although she had originally planned to wait there for Ruan Yang, seeing Ruan Yang’s expression made her heart soften inexplicably.
“Of course, I’ll wait for you,” she said, her tone carrying a trace of unconscious affection as she smiled. “I’ll wait right here.”
