Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 47
Was she better or not?
Xu Zhiyi was a bit bewildered. She pressed her other hand against her chest and couldn’t help but glance a few times at her fingertip, which was still held by Ruan Yang.
“Are you feeling better now?” she asked, not pulling her hand back.
Heaven bless that Ruan Yang recovers quickly, she really couldn’t take it anymore.
Ruan Yang looked up, her gaze still somewhat dazed. She glanced at Xu Zhiyi, then at her surroundings, gradually coming to her senses.
But it seemed she wasn’t entirely clear-headed yet.
After a moment of contemplation, she still couldn’t tell whether this was a dream or reality.
Her head still ached slightly. She closed her eyes and shook her head gently. When she opened them again, she nodded toward Xu Zhiyi. “I feel much better now, thank you.”
She had spoken softly earlier, but now, using her normal tone, Ruan Yang was startled by how hoarse her own voice sounded.
She furrowed her brows.
Xu Zhiyi was also taken aback. The back of her neck had started itching the moment Ruan Yang opened her eyes and touched her. Now, hearing Ruan Yang’s voice, she felt as if something was about to burst forth.
She wanted to say something, but the sight of Ruan Yang’s furrowed brows caught her attention again.
The doctor’s words flooded back into her mind, causing her restless, noisy heartbeat to abruptly stop with a “thump.”
Her emotions calmed, and she stood up again, speaking indifferently, “No need to thank me. Consider it repayment for last time.”
Last time.
Those two words dispelled the haze in Ruan Yang’s eyes, and she finally became fully awake.
She jerked her head up to look at Xu Zhiyi’s retreating back, her eyes widening in disbelief.
So, in Xu Zhiyi’s eyes, these past few days were nothing more than “help”? Just repaying the “favor” from when Ruan Yang had helped her through her sensitive period?
Ruan Yang couldn’t accept that.
Although her consciousness had been hazy over the past few days, she could still recall most of the scenes.
When Xu Zhiyi’s face was flushed beneath her, it was clear she had been moved.
It definitely didn’t seem like she was just repaying a favor.
Had she scared Xu Zhiyi over the past few days?
She reached out to grab Xu Zhiyi’s hand, but Xu Zhiyi had already stood up and was even changing her clothes.
Throughout this process, Xu Zhiyi didn’t spare Ruan Yang another glance.
“Hello? Sister Zhiyi?” The phone rang, and Jiang Jiang’s voice came through, sounding as if she had been waiting for a long time. “Are you finally done? I’ve been trying to call you, but I couldn’t get through. I was so worried I was about to ask for another day off for you.”
“No need,” Xu Zhiyi replied coldly, already dressed and packing her things into her bag. “I’ll head to the set soon. Come pick me up, I’ll be waiting at the hotel entrance.”
After hanging up, she put on a mask and sunglasses, then tied up her hair and tucked it under a hat.
Throughout this, Ruan Yang kept her eyes fixed on Xu Zhiyi, and she couldn’t miss the reddened mark on the back of Xu Zhiyi’s neck.
She had bitten her.
She had marked Xu Zhiyi.
This realization made Ruan Yang want to say something, but Xu Zhiyi swiftly took out a scent-blocking patch from her bag and neatly applied it to the red, swollen area.
The patch matched Xu Zhiyi’s skin tone so well that it was nearly invisible unless one looked closely.
The fact that her hair no longer touched that spot made Xu Zhiyi feel much more comfortable, and the restlessness in her heart eased a bit.
She finally lowered her gaze to Ruan Yang, who seemed to have something to say. After a brief silence, she spoke, “Since you’re better now, I’ll go back to work. You can head back on your own later. I’ll have Jiang Jiang book your flight ticket.”
It didn’t seem like the right time to have a proper talk with Xu Zhiyi. Ruan Yang pressed her lips together and swallowed the words she had been about to say.
“Mm,” she nodded.
As soon as she spoke, the sound of the room door closing echoed. Xu Zhiyi had already left.
The room felt empty, leaving Ruan Yang alone.
She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination.
Ruan Yang’s fingers tightened around the bedsheet.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that, emotionally, Xu Zhiyi had drifted a little further away from her.
After Xu Zhiyi left, Ruan Yang didn’t linger in the hotel for long. She finished the last of the medicine the doctor had prescribed and checked out.
Jiang Jiang sent over the flight details. Ruan Yang thanked her and considered asking her to take good care of Xu Zhiyi, but then realized Jiang Jiang would do so regardless, so she said nothing more.
Back at school, Ruan Yang returned to her dorm. Lu Yiye was likely in class and not around. Ruan Yang began packing her frequently used belongings. Since she often stayed at the Xu residence, she didn’t have much to pack and was done quickly.
Once finished, she left the dorm without a second thought. Truthfully, she felt little attachment to anyone besides Xu Zhiyi. Lu Yiye was merely a classmate and roommate not even a friend.
She found a hotel near the school to stay in temporarily, planning to search for an apartment later. For now, matters at Runying took priority.
After two more days of classes, the weekend arrived, and Ruan Yang immediately headed to Runying. Fortunately, the general manager still heeded Xu Rongjiang’s instructions and had restrained the department head from interfering with Ruan Yang’s plans.
Ruan Yang checked the progress of the script she had selected. It had advanced well in her absence. Since she had insisted on choosing the key actors herself, only a few roles remained undecided.
But they needed to move quickly.
She provided the director’s team with Qu Shanshan’s phone number, instructing them to contact her for an audition. Just as she finished, her phone rang.
She glanced down, her expression darkening.
It was Xu Rongjiang calling.
Ruan Yang walked to a secluded stairwell before answering.
“Yangyang?” Xu Rongjiang chuckled lightly on the other end, making small talk. “How have you been lately?”
“Pretty good,” Ruan Yang replied, opening the window by the stairs. The sweltering wind outside brushed against her face, stirring a faint restlessness in her heart. She had no patience for beating around the bush and cut straight to the point. “Uncle, is there something you needed?”
“Nothing major!” Xu Rongjiang paused briefly, then skipped further pleasantries and asked directly, “I just wanted to check how things are going for you at Runying. I heard you clashed with one of the department heads shortly after you arrived?”
Ruan Yang had expected this call to be about that.
Xu Rongjiang’s tone remained calm, without any hint of blame or displeasure. Ruan Yang tapped her fingers lightly on the windowsill, already gauging the situation.
She made her tone sound a bit flustered, even cautious: “Yes, Uncle. Have I caused you trouble? I’m sorry, I didn’t think it through properly. It’s mainly because I feel Runying’s current direction is too rigid and conventional. If this continues, it’ll soon be left behind in this industry.”
Seeing that Xu Rongjiang still seemed willing to listen, Ruan Yang went on to share her plans for Runying’s transformation and her vision for the future.
After she finished speaking, Ruan Yang could clearly sense that Xu Rongjiang’s tone had become noticeably more enthusiastic.
“Yangyang, you truly live up to being a student of Capital University. Your insights are completely different from those stubborn executives at Runying,” Xu Rongjiang’s voice was filled with satisfaction, though he seemed to catch himself and deliberately lowered his tone. “However, these are just your personal opinions for now. How to implement them and how to navigate the politics with those executives these are all issues you’ll need to consider.”
“Mm, I’ll think it over carefully, Uncle. Don’t worry,” Ruan Yang replied somewhat indifferently.
“Keep up the good work, Yangyang,” Xu Rongjiang’s attitude had shifted significantly since the start of the call. “If you can really turn Runying around and make it profitable, I’ll hand the company over to you afterward. Then you can run it however you see fit!”
Xu Rongjiang wasn’t one to make empty promises lightly, but Ruan Yang remained unmoved.
Thinking about her own goals, she pursed her lips. “Uncle, you’ve helped me and my mother so much. It’s only right that I help you in return. I don’t need you to hand Runying over to me. All I ask is that once I help Runying achieve profitability, you fulfill one request of mine.”
“Of course, that’s no problem,” Xu Rongjiang didn’t take Ruan Yang’s words seriously. She was just a student, what kind of excessive request could she possibly have? It was probably just about opportunities or money.
He agreed readily, “As long as you show me what you’re capable of, I’ll do my best to grant whatever you want.”
The thought of grooming a new successor, one that would prevent Xu Zhiyi from ever having a chance to reclaim the Xu family’s assets filled Xu Rongjiang with an indescribable sense of satisfaction!
Ruan Yang chuckled lightly. “Then I’ll thank you in advance, Uncle. I’ll definitely work hard.”
On the other end, Xu Rongjiang casually chatted a bit more, sounding in high spirits.
After hanging up, Ruan Yang let the smile fade from her lips and leaned half of her body against the windowsill.
A verbal promise from Xu Rongjiang wasn’t enough far from it.
She might not even have time to secure that promise before Ruan Qingyu and Xu Rongjiang got engaged.
She needed to find another way another method to make her mother see Xu Rongjiang’s true hypocritical and selfish nature.
But what good would it do even if Ruan Qingyu saw his true colors? She still loved Xu Rongjiang.
Ruan Yang felt the situation had suddenly become much more complicated.
Warm gusts of wind swept over her, and her thoughts drifted to Xu Zhiyi.
It seemed she hadn’t told Xu Zhiyi yet that she had started working at Runying.
Pulling out her phone, Ruan Yang opened her chat history with Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi was very busy, and Ruan Yang wasn’t particularly skilled at making conversation. Their usual communication pattern consisted of Ruan Yang reporting in an emotionless tone, on the growth of the rose plant she had been tending, and Xu Zhiyi responding much later with one of her own stickers.
Such meaningless conversations hadn’t occurred since Ruan Yang last saw Xu Zhiyi.
After leaving the hotel room that day, Xu Zhiyi never contacted Ruan Yang again.
Ruan Yang didn’t know whether she should reach out to Xu Zhiyi either. She spent a long time typing and deleting in the message box, unable to find the right words.
She was afraid that directly telling Xu Zhiyi about joining Runying would make her angry, but she also worried that delaying the news would eventually lead to the same outcome.
After wrestling with her thoughts for a while, she sighed and simply sent Xu Zhiyi a message: “I have something to tell you.”
After sending it, Ruan Yang wondered if she was being too vague or deliberately mysterious.
Would Xu Zhiyi think she was playing hard to get?
Regret washed over her, and she quickly recalled the message.
But the recall notice now sat beneath Xu Zhiyi’s sticker, making it seem even more like a calculated move.
Ruan Yang: “…”
So difficult.
In over twenty years of her life, this was the first time she had struggled so much over sending a single message.
The sweltering wind outside the window only added to her frustration. Ruan Yang closed the window and exited the chat interface with Xu Zhiyi.
She even thought recklessly, “Maybe I should just leave it at that.”
If Xu Zhiyi noticed the recalled message and asked what she had deleted, then she could naturally bring up her job at Runying.
So, what if it seemed like playing hard to get?
With this resigned attitude, she returned to her workplace.
Throughout the entire afternoon, during every break from work, Ruan Yang couldn’t help but check her phone to see if Xu Zhiyi had replied.
But reality proved harsher than imagination.
Ruan Yang’s attempt at playing hard to get failed completely.
Because two full days passed, and Xu Zhiyi never responded to Ruan Yang’s message.
