Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 44
As soon as she finished speaking, Ruan Yang felt her hand go empty, the object in her grasp seemed to have been snatched away.
Xu Zhiyi took the key card from Ruan Yang’s hand, then pressed it against the sensor. A faint electronic beep sounded, and the door behind Ruan Yang swung open.
Her back suddenly exposed, Ruan Yang stiffened for a second.
A force suddenly pressed down on her shoulder. Xu Zhiyi’s damp, fox-like eyes gazed at her, and with a gentle push, she nudged Ruan Yang into the room.
The push wasn’t forceful; Ruan Yang took two steps back.
Standing inside the room, she watched as the door slowly closed on its own. Xu Zhiyi’s face gradually blurred in the narrowing gap of the doorway.
The words Xu Zhiyi had just spoken to her still echoed in her ears. In her daze, Ruan Yang caught a glimpse of Xu Zhiyi’s crimson lips curling into a smile at the doorway.
“Goodnight.”
As the words faded, the door clicked shut with a soft thud.
The sound of light footsteps gradually faded away, leaving behind an endless expanse of darkness and silence.
It took Ruan Yang a long moment to finally snap out of it.
In the darkness, her amber pupils shimmered faintly.
She slipped her hand into her pocket, gripping the teru teru bōzu charm on her phone tightly.
For some time now, Ruan Yang had sensed something, but she hadn’t dared to confirm it. Whether it was being asked to care for the flowers, the recent livestream, or the earlier probing, Ruan Yang finally felt certain: Xu Zhiyi was flirting with her.
She pressed her lips together and let out a silent laugh, then quickly composed herself. After washing up, she lay down on the bed.
The next day, when Ruan Yang opened her eyes, she suddenly felt unusually warm. She touched her forehead, it was slightly hotter than usual.
But only slightly. She didn’t pay much attention to the odd sensation in her body and got up as usual.
Xu Zhiyi had Jiang Jiang call Ruan Yang to her room for breakfast.
“You ruined my flowers,” Xu Zhiyi said, sounding in a rather good mood, not even looking up. “Today, you’ll have to make it up to me come with me to buy flowers.”
It wasn’t a request but a statement. Ruan Yang raised an eyebrow but didn’t refuse.
She sat down beside Xu Zhiyi, but as soon as she did, a message popped up on her chat app. It was from Shi Fangxuan’s assistant, informing Ruan Yang that Shi Fangxuan had finished reading the script and decided to take on the role.
Ruan Yang sent back a “Looking forward to working with you,” then set her phone down with a sigh of relief.
With the main supporting actor secured, the next step was casting the lead Alpha and Omega roles.
Finding the right actors wouldn’t be easy.
Her expression unconsciously grew more serious. Just as she was about to take a sip of milk, her phone rang.
Xu Zhiyi seemed to sense something and glanced down at Ruan Yang’s phone.
There was no contact name saved, but with a slight frown, Ruan Yang seemed to recall who it was and expressionlessly declined the call.
But the caller seemed determined to get through as soon as Ruan Yang hung up, they called again.
After three or four repetitions, Xu Zhiyi set down her cup and said calmly, “Aren’t you going to answer?”
So, when the next call came through, Ruan Yang finally tapped the answer button.
“Senior Ruan Yang?!” The voice on the other end sounded full of energy, even a bit excited the moment the call connected. “I thought you weren’t going to answer my call today!”
Perhaps finding the other person’s voice a bit too loud, Ruan Yang glanced at Xu Zhiyi, then stood up and walked over to the window.
She furrowed her brows as she looked out the window. “What’s up?”
Qu Shanshan seemed to be on a film set, with some noise in the background. “Senior, have you been looking for actors recently?”
Ruan Yang hadn’t yet announced to the public that she was casting for her new project, so she was taken aback by the question. “How did you know?”
“Of course, my sister told me!” Qu Shanshan chuckled. “My sister brought me a script yesterday that she thought was pretty good. I read it, and it really is impressive. When I saw the style, for some reason, I immediately thought of you.”
When she mentioned Ruan Yang, Qu Shanshan’s voice softened inexplicably. She murmured quietly, “I felt like this script was exactly the kind you’d pick. So I had someone look into the company behind it, and sure enough, it was you!”
Runying was, after all, a well-known company in the industry, with people keeping an eye on its every move. It wasn’t surprising that Qu Shanshan had found out about her involvement.
Qu Shanshan continued, “Then it occurred to me that you’d probably be selecting actors soon. What do you think of me, Senior? We’ve already collaborated on one project, so you should have a good understanding of my acting skills. Don’t worry, I won’t let you down! Besides, I took a look at the Omega lead’s character design, and it actually fits my image quite well.”
By the end, her voice had dropped to almost a whisper. “Senior, would you consider me?”
Ruan Yang heard her clearly. Gazing down at the city from the top floor of the hotel, she carefully compared Qu Shanshan’s image with the Omega lead she had envisioned for the script.
To be honest, Qu Shanshan shared some similarities with the lead she had in mind, but there were still differences.
If she were to think of the person who best matched the image of the lead in her heart.
Ruan Yang glanced at Xu Zhiyi’s slender silhouette reflected in the glass window.
But Xu Zhiyi never accepted roles from Runying, and Ruan Yang understood the reason.
Forget it, Ruan Yang sighed softly and said into the phone, “Then come for an audition in a few days.”
After all, Qu Shanshan was someone she knew well talented and highly adaptable. Choosing her was still better than picking someone else.
On the other end, Qu Shanshan seemed delighted by Ruan Yang’s response. She laughed lightly and said, “Thank you, Senior! Don’t worry, I’ll give it my all during the audition. I won’t disappoint you!”
Ruan Yang simply replied with an “Mm,” then hung up the phone and turned back toward the table.
As she sat down, she noticed that Xu Zhiyi’s expression seemed a bit off.
There was still a smile at the corners of her eyes, but it carried a hint of something deeper.
Noticing Ruan Yang’s gaze, Xu Zhiyi pushed the plate of toast on the table toward her and said calmly, “Hurry up and eat. After this, come with me to buy flowers.”
It didn’t seem all that unusual. Ruan Yang shook her head slightly to clear her thoughts, hesitated for a moment, then picked up a slice of toast and took a bite.
Xu Zhiyi’s gaze drifted downward, landing on Ruan Yang’s phone screen.
If she hadn’t misheard, that voice just now belonged to Qu Shanshan.
She had also heard, just as Ruan Yang was about to hang up and walk over, the other person repeatedly calling her “Senior” in a sweet, affectionate tone.
But she didn’t say anything. Instead, she poured herself a glass of ice water, raised it to her lips, and drank it all in one go.
After Ruan Yang finished breakfast, Xu Zhiyi put on sunglasses, a mask, and a hat, wrapping herself up tightly before heading out with Ruan Yang.
She had Jiang Jiang drive them to a flower market on the outskirts of the city, where there were fewer people.
Most of the visitors here were local residents, mostly older in age, so Xu Zhiyi didn’t need to be overly cautious.
She had Ruan Yang follow her out of the car, leaving Jiang Jiang to wait inside, and the two of them strolled leisurely through the flower market.
The market was a riot of colors, and Ruan Yang paused at the entrance of every flower shop they passed, carefully searching inside for the same variety of roses that Xu Zhiyi had once given her.
When she brought a bouquet from the tenth shop to Xu Zhiyi, Xu Zhiyi merely glanced at it from behind her sunglasses and said, “Not this one.”
This was the closest match Ruan Yang had found to the roses Xu Zhiyi had given her. After all, she had nurtured that pot of flowers for a long time, and in terms of shape, color, and every other detail, the bouquet in her hand was strikingly similar.
“Are you sure it’s not?” Ruan Yang’s words slowed inexplicably as she lowered her head in thought, asking again with earnestness.
Xu Zhiyi glanced at her sideways, then let her gaze fall on the flowers in Ruan Yang’s hand.
In truth, she didn’t even know if this was the same variety she had given Ruan Yang back then.
At the time, she had simply bought a random type of rose on the street and had it delivered to Ruan Yang, just so Ruan Yang wouldn’t forget her while she was away.
And now, she wasn’t really making Ruan Yang buy flowers as an apology.
But Ruan Yang seemed completely absorbed in the task of finding the right flowers for her.
Xu Zhiyi pressed her fingers to her forehead and waved a hand dismissively. “No.”
A hint of helplessness tinged her tone.
Fine.
Ruan Yang pouted and turned to put the flowers back.
Xu Zhiyi continued walking ahead, and Ruan Yang hurried to catch up. From the next flower shop, she found another similar bouquet and brought it to Xu Zhiyi once more.
This time, Xu Zhiyi nodded. “This is the one.”
“Still not!” Ruan Yang’s mind was muddled. She had assumed Xu Zhiyi was rejecting her choice again and blurted out the words before realizing that, this time, Xu Zhiyi’s answer was finally affirmative.
She looked up abruptly. Xu Zhiyi was standing sideways to her, gazing across the street, not even sparing a glance at the flowers in Ruan Yang’s hand.
Ruan Yang’s foggy consciousness finally sensed something amiss.
Her hand holding the flowers grew uncertain, and as she parted her lips to say something to Xu Zhiyi, Xu Zhiyi happened to turn around at that moment.
On the bustling yet spacious street, Xu Zhiyi pulled Ruan Yang into a narrow alley, then lowered her mask and removed her sunglasses.
Her beautiful, fox-like eyes now shimmered with starlight, reflecting Ruan Yang’s face.
Xu Zhiyi crossed her arms, reached out, and plucked the rose from Ruan Yang’s hand.
“Ruan Yang,” she raised an eyebrow, “do you care that much about what I think?”
She took a step closer to Ruan Yang.
“Just because I said those roses were important, you came here and spent an hour searching for them like a clueless fool?”
“Just because I said they were important, you’d worry, you’d fret, you’d want to find me a perfect replacement?”
Ruan Yang’s movements were noticeably more sluggish than usual. Her blinks were slow, and she seemed unable to dodge, just staring blankly as Xu Zhiyi drew closer.
Xu Zhiyi raised her hand to touch Ruan Yang’s cheek, but the moment her fingertips made contact, they burned with heat.
“Your face is this flushed?” Xu Zhiyi curled her lips, her fingers trailing downward to press against Ruan Yang’s lips.
The entire world froze in that second.
Do you like me?
The words were already at the tip of Xu Zhiyi’s tongue, but as her thoughts shifted, she recalled the earlier calls of “senior” from that morning.
Her other hand lifted, gently tucking the rose she held behind Ruan Yang’s ear.
Even the tips of Ruan Yang’s ears were red, blending with the crimson rose, it was hard to say which was more tantalizing.
Xu Zhiyi’s fingertips were cool, and this seemed to offer Ruan Yang some comfort. Suddenly, Ruan Yang raised her hand to cover the back of Xu Zhiyi’s, then buried half her face in Xu Zhiyi’s palm.
The gesture carried an inexplicable sense of docility.
Xu Zhiyi was now practically cradling Ruan Yang’s face in both hands. At that moment, a breeze swept through the quiet alley, and the ends of Ruan Yang’s hair brushed lightly against Xu Zhiyi’s sharp chin and neck.
The sensation tickled its way straight into Xu Zhiyi’s heart.
Ruan Yang before her was unusually quiet, and a mischievous thought suddenly crossed Xu Zhiyi’s mind.
“What’s wrong with you?” she leaned closer, trying hard to mimic Qu Shanshan’s tone and cadence from that morning, then spoke softly in a similar voice, “Are you okay, senior?”
She drew out the last word, making it unbearably sticky.
Almost the instant the words left her lips, Ruan Yang’s body trembled. Suddenly, she reached out and pulled Xu Zhiyi tightly into her embrace.
Her arms locked firmly around Xu Zhiyi’s waist, and caught off guard, Xu Zhiyi had no choice but to wrap her arms around Ruan Yang’s neck.
The force was intense Xu Zhiyi felt as if Ruan Yang were trying to press her into her very bones.
Ruan Yang’s scorching lips brushed against Xu Zhiyi’s earlobe, her hurried, suppressed breaths pressing against Xu Zhiyi’s eardrum, low and charged with tension.
By the time the rich scent of pinewood enveloped Xu Zhiyi completely and the glands on the back of her own neck began to warm, she was still in a daze.
She couldn’t believe it.
Just one word, “senior.”
And she had managed to trigger Ruan Yang’s sensitive period right out on the street?!
Xu Zhiyi: Major problem alert.
