Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 39
After the live stream ended, the hashtag #Xu Zhiyi’s Rose# quickly climbed to the top of the trending list. At the same time, other topics related to Omega Equality Day also made it to the hot searches, all of which were more or less connected to Xu Zhiyi.
It could be said that Xu Zhiyi alone occupied almost half of the trending topics that day.
The segment of Xu Zhiyi’s speech had been specifically recorded and uploaded online, sparking widespread speculation about whether the “rose” she mentioned referred to an actual flower or a person.
【It’s definitely a person. Xu Zhiyi’s reputation for being fickle in love is well-known in the industry. Just think about how long it’s been since she’s been involved in any gossip. I bet she’s talking about someone new she’s seeing.】
【Netizens these days never hesitate to assume the worst about Xu Zhiyi. She simply mentioned a flower, and you’re already making all sorts of speculations. How ridiculous.】
【It’s absolutely about a person, if it’s not, I’ll do eighty test papers tonight! Just look at Xu Zhiyi’s expression when she said it her eyes were practically glowing. Those of you who think it’s a flower, go look in the mirror and see if you can muster that kind of gaze for a plant you’re growing at home.】
Lu Yiye scrolled through these comments one by one on the social media feed.
For some reason, she suddenly grew irritated, turned off her phone, and placed it on the table.
After a brief exclamation, the teacher on the podium continued the lecture. Once the live stream ended, Ruan Yang put down her phone and picked up her pen to resume taking notes.
Ruan Yang had long eyelashes, and under the fluorescent lights, shadows fell across her face, accentuating her sharp jawline, which exuded an aloof, unapproachable coolness.
Yet it was this very person, who appeared so detached, who had actually smiled just after Xu Zhiyi finished her final words.
Ruan Yang had smiled.
It was the first time Lu Yiye had seen Ruan Yang smile so naturally and unreservedly. She had been stunned at the time, taking several seconds to process it.
How had things come to this? Hadn’t Ruan Yang always disliked Xu Zhiyi before?
This doubt prompted Lu Yiye to recall the numerous times Fang Yao had brought up Xu Zhiyi in front of them.
It was only then that she realized, with surprise, that Ruan Yang had never actually said she disliked Xu Zhiyi.
It was just that every time Fang Yao discussed Xu Zhiyi’s romantic rumors, Ruan Yang would coldly tell him to shut up, leading both her and Fang Yao to assume that Ruan Yang didn’t like Xu Zhiyi.
Now it seemed that Ruan Yang didn’t dislike Xu Zhiyi, she simply disliked the gossip surrounding her.
In fact, it was highly possible that Ruan Yang liked Xu Zhiyi even more than Fang Yao, who constantly proclaimed his admiration for her.
Once this realization dawned on her, Lu Yiye suddenly furrowed her brows.
After class, Lu Yiye and Ruan Yang headed back to their dormitory together. Fang Yao caught up with them, swinging his bag carelessly as he walked alongside Ruan Yang.
He asked, “Ruan Yang, Lu Yiye told me that you two are going to Xu Zhiyi’s birthday party next month?”
Xu Zhiyi’s studio had announced that they would be hosting a birthday party for her in a neighboring city next month on her birthday. The tickets weren’t for sale; aside from a portion reserved for Xu Zhiyi’s top fans, the rest would be distributed through various online raffles.
Of course, Fang Yao wouldn’t pass up the chance to interact closely with Xu Zhiyi. He reposted numerous giveaways, but cursed with the luck of someone who never wins, he failed to secure a ticket no matter how hard he tried.
Unable to get a ticket through the draws, he pulled every string he could to snag an insider pass, yet still came up empty-handed.
What infuriated him most was that Lu Yiye, whose family owned an entertainment agency, effortlessly obtained the very insider tickets he had desperately begged for not just one, but two!
He initially thought Lu Yiye had gotten them for him and eagerly approached her, only to learn that she planned to attend with Ruan Yang.
With Ruan Yang?
Fang Yao immediately suspected Lu Yiye was tricking him.
How could Ruan Yang possibly be interested in Xu Zhiyi’s birthday party?
When he confronted the person in question, Ruan Yang was scrolling through her phone, head bowed. After a moment of thought, she looked up and said, “I think that’s right.”
No way! Fang Yao’s eyes widened in disbelief. Was Ruan Yang actually planning to go to Xu Zhiyi’s birthday party?
Just as he was about to say more, Ruan Yang continued, “But I’m not going. If you want to, talk to Yiye.”
Hearing this, Lu Yiye, who was standing nearby, stopped in her tracks.
Ruan Yang, however, seemed unaware that Lu Yiye had halted. Still focused on her phone, she kept walking and soon put some distance between them.
Thrilled to hear that Ruan Yang wasn’t going, Fang Yao also stopped beside Lu Yiye.
“Yiye,” he said, eyes gleaming, “Since Ruan Yang isn’t going, why don’t we go together? You went through so much trouble to get these tickets give one to me, and I promise I won’t let it go to waste!”
Lu Yiye’s expression darkened as she stared at Ruan Yang’s retreating figure.
Ignoring Fang Yao’s chatter, she abruptly asked out of nowhere, “Do you know what Ruan Yang has been up to lately?”
Fang Yao was taken aback. “Doesn’t she just do whatever she wants?”
Lu Yiye’s brow furrowed deeply, her grip tightening on the book in her hand until it crumpled. She murmured quietly, “Lately, she’s been tending to roses.”
Xu Zhiyi’s roses.
After returning home, Ruan Yang took a photo of the roses’ progress, intending to update Xu Zhiyi, when a call from Ruan Qingyu came through.
Ruan Qingyu asked if Ruan Yang had time that afternoon to accompany her to pick out a gown.
“Your father will be announcing our marriage next month. Could you please come with me to choose a dress, darling?”
At those words, Ruan Yang’s fingers stilled mid-text to Xu Zhiyi.
The announcement was next month.
Lately, all her attention had been devoted to the roses, and she had nearly forgotten about this matter.
She stood up, her gaze shifting from gentle to sharp.
Xu Rongjiang was a cold-hearted, unfeeling man Ruan Qingyu couldn’t be with him.
She had once believed that Ruan Qingyu would eventually see Xu Rongjiang for who he truly was and realize he wasn’t worth entrusting her life to.
But now, it seemed Ruan Qingyu either couldn’t see it or, having seen it, refused to wake up.
Moreover, if Ruan Qingyu really married Xu Rongjiang, then any possibility between her and Xu Zhiyi would be lost forever.
Ruan Yang lowered her gaze, thinking for a few seconds before replying, “Alright, I’ll come find you soon.”
“Really, Yangyang?” Ruan Qingyu, surprised by her agreement, happily set a time and place before hanging up.
At the appointed hour, Ruan Yang found Ruan Qingyu at a custom handmade gown boutique.
Ruan Qingyu was discussing ideas with the designer when she noticed Ruan Yang arriving. She immediately reached out and warmly took Ruan Yang’s hand.
With her daughter by her side, Ruan Qingyu seemed to speak with more confidence. She continued expressing her thoughts and the atmosphere she wanted, occasionally asking for Ruan Yang’s opinion, to which Ruan Yang responded thoughtfully.
After leaving the shop, Ruan Qingyu took Ruan Yang to a shopping mall, buying not only for herself but also numerous items for Ruan Yang.
Throughout the afternoon, Ruan Yang cooperated fully with all of Ruan Qingyu’s arrangements.
This, however, made Ruan Qingyu feel somewhat uneasy.
Sitting at a roadside café, Ruan Qingyu took a small sip of coffee and asked, “Yangyang, is everything alright today? You’ve always been resistant to the idea of me marrying your father. But today, not only did you not say anything against it, you even came out with me to shop for clothes.”
Ruan Yang smiled slightly. “I just wanted to spend some time with you when I have the chance.”
Ruan Qingyu’s eyes suddenly stung. Ever since her divorce from Ruan Yang’s mother, Ruan Yang had rarely spoken to her in such a gentle manner.
A wave of guilt washed over Ruan Qingyu. “Don’t worry, Yangyang. Even if I remarry, you will always be my only daughter.”
Ruan Qingyu was still unaware that Xu Rongjiang had lost the ability to have children, and Ruan Yang didn’t reveal it.
She pushed the dessert in front of her toward Ruan Qingyu and suddenly said, “Mom, I have someone I like.”
“Who is it?” Ruan Qingyu suddenly recalled the scene from the last birthday party when Ruan Yang had urgently shouted for the driver to stop the car.
That was the first time Ruan Qingyu had seen her daughter like that. She had always thought Ruan Yang was calm and composed, even when she had told Ruan Yang about the divorce from her mother, Ruan Yang’s reaction had been remarkably subdued.
She never imagined Ruan Yang could be so flustered and desperate.
Nothing could hold her back.
Ruan Qingyu asked, “Is it the person you were willing to leave the birthday party to see?”
“Yes,” Ruan Yang nodded, gazing out the window, her expression softening noticeably. “It’s her.”
“Have you confessed to her?” Ruan Qingyu asked again.
“Not yet,” Ruan Yang withdrew her gaze and said, “I really like her, Mom. Will you support me?”
Ruan Qingyu’s heart had already melted at her daughter’s willingness to share her feelings, and upon hearing Ruan Yang’s question, she quickly nodded. “Of course! You’re my daughter. No matter who you like, I’ll support you.”
Perhaps something in Ruan Yang’s expression reminded Ruan Qingyu of her own past, and she added, “If you love someone, you should strive to be with them, Yangyang. Don’t be like me marrying someone just for the sake of it won’t bring happiness.”
Even though she had been fortunate, and Ruan Yang’s mother had treated her well, that person was never the one she truly loved.
“I’ll remember that,” Ruan Yang said, her fingers gently tracing the pendant on her phone. She smiled softly. “I’ll work hard to be with her.”
Ruan Qingyu reached out and patted Ruan Yang’s hand, then slowly began to eat the dessert in front of her.
After spending a little more time shopping, Ruan Qingyu grew tired and decided to head back first. Ruan Yang saw her off into the car.
Once the car had driven away from the street, all emotion faded from Ruan Yang’s eyes.
She stood on the street with a cold expression for a moment before taking out her phone and dialing Xu Rongjiang’s number.
The call was answered by his assistant. After Ruan Yang gave her name, the assistant relayed it to Xu Rongjiang, who soon picked up the phone.
“Yangyang?” Xu Rongjiang sounded somewhat surprised. “Why are you calling me? Did something happen to your mother?”
“No, Uncle Xu,” Ruan Yang’s voice was clear and polite, tinged with a hint of nervousness and tension. Yet, her gaze remained cold and fixed ahead as she spoke deliberately. “I was just shopping with Mom, and she bought some snacks for you. She asked me to bring them over.”
“Is that so?” Xu Rongjiang sounded uninterested. “There’s no need to trouble yourself. Tell your mother I’ll be back in the evening.”
“And personally,” Ruan Yang interrupted him, lowering her voice, “I have something I’d like to discuss with you, Uncle Xu, regarding the future development of your corporation.”
