Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 30
In an instant, all eyes were fixed on Ruan Yang.
Su Xinzhi was also present today. Upon hearing the suggestion, he scoffed disdainfully, “Director, don’t put her on the spot. Just look at Ruan Yang she clearly isn’t up to it. You’d be better off finding someone else. Otherwise, if she ends up holding us back and delaying everyone’s progress, none of us would dare say anything to her.”
His words were dripping with sarcasm. The director shot him a glance but still turned to Ruan Yang with a smile. “Give it a try, Xiao Ruan.”
Ruan Yang didn’t even glance at Su Xinzhi, nor did she look at Xu Zhiyi, who had made the suggestion.
Instead, her gaze suddenly fell on Qu Lingxuan, who had been silently standing to the side.
Noticing Ruan Yang’s glance, Qu Lingxuan offered a polite smile.
Ruan Yang then nodded. “Alright, I’ll trouble the director with this.”
As soon as she agreed, the director immediately had the stylist take Ruan Yang to the dressing room.
Since it was just a maid’s role, no elaborate makeup or styling was required. Because of this, Ruan Yang emerged fairly quickly.
When the stylist brought Ruan Yang before the director, everyone who saw her was stunned.
“Xiao, Xiao Ruan?” Even the well-experienced director was momentarily speechless. He turned to the stylist, “Didn’t I tell you to keep it simple just a maid’s makeup and a basic outfit? Why did you make it so refined?”
The stylist, who had just finished working on Ruan Yang and was in high spirits, chuckled at the director’s remark. “Director, take a closer look. I really did give her a maid’s makeup just a light touch and she’s wearing a maid’s dress. It’s all her natural elegance, not my doing.”
The director blinked, then scrutinized Ruan Yang more carefully.
Upon closer inspection, he realized that Ruan Yang indeed wore minimal makeup, and her attire was no different from that of any other maid.
Yet, the moment Ruan Yang stood there, her presence was striking, exuding a temperament that was impossible to ignore.
“I’ve truly stumbled upon a gem,” the director laughed heartily, then glanced at Xu Zhiyi. “Zhiyi has a good eye.”
Xu Zhiyi looked at Ruan Yang as if she wanted to say something.
But Ruan Yang didn’t even glance her way. Biting her lower lip, Xu Zhiyi swallowed her words.
Nearby, Qu Lingxuan’s expression grew complicated after hearing the exchange between the director and the stylist.
Although Ruan Yang’s assistant was dressed in a maid’s uniform, standing next to Qu Lingxuan, who was wearing the attire of an imperial princess she didn’t seem out of place at all.
In fact, the lack of excessive accessories accentuated her cool, elegant demeanor, making it even more pronounced.
Qu Lingxuan suddenly felt a sense of relief that this person hadn’t entered the entertainment industry as an actress and wasn’t her contemporary.
Ruan Yang stood quietly, listening to the conversation around her. The sunlight fell on her, softening her aloofness and lending her an air of tranquility and grace.
The more Director Wu Jun looked at her, the more pleased he felt, secretly regretting that he hadn’t assigned Ruan Yang a more substantial role earlier.
With this thought in mind, he pulled Ruan Yang aside and explained the scene they were shooting that day.
The plot revolved around Princess Xu Zhiyi, whose love interest had lost contact with the imperial court after going off to war. In desperation, the princess traveled to a neighboring kingdom to seek help from her childhood friend, the imperial princess played by Qu Lingxuan.
Unbeknownst to the princess, however, the imperial princess had secretly been in love with her since childhood. Hearing that the princess had come seeking aid for another man, the imperial princess grew jealous and decided to reject her request.
The scene to be filmed today was one where the Princess Royal, to prevent herself from softening, specifically sent a maid to inform the princess that she couldn’t help with this matter.
Ruan Yang roughly understood the gist. Her role required no expressions and only one line, a purely background character that anyone could play.
Filming began shortly after. As Ruan Yang lifted the curtain and entered, Xu Zhiyi immediately rushed over and grabbed her wrist.
Xu Zhiyi’s eyes sparkled, brimming with hope: “Well? Did Awan agree to help me?”
Ruan Yang seemed to freeze for a second before quickly snapping out of the sudden physical contact and delivering her scripted line: “Your Highness, the Princess Royal is occupied with state affairs. Please return for today.”
Xu Zhiyi appeared both shocked and as if she had anticipated this response.
She released her grip, tears welling in the corners of her eyes, her hands hanging limply at her sides as she took a few steps back. “For five days straight, I’ve come here for five days, and your Princess Royal has said the same thing every time.”
Overwhelmed by disappointment and despair, Xu Zhiyi wiped away the tears streaming down her face and cried out accusingly, “Is Awan truly so heartless?!”
Outside the camera frame, the director watched the scene with admiration and whispered praise to Qu Lingxuan beside him: “Zhiyi’s emotional delivery in this line is just perfect.”
The emotion in that line was so rich that Wu Jun almost thought Xu Zhiyi was genuinely accusing someone.
After Xu Zhiyi finished speaking, Ruan Yang across from her finally looked up and met her gaze.
It was almost the first time the two had made eye contact in two days.
But soon, Ruan Yang averted her eyes again, bowing her head slightly. “Your Highness, please mind your words.”
With that, she quickly turned and walked away. She moved so swiftly that she didn’t notice Xu Zhiyi behind her stumbling uncontrollably two steps in the direction she had left, reaching out as if trying to grasp her retreating figure.
It was all in vain; the last hope was gone.
Xu Zhiyi wept silently, crouching down and hugging herself.
Perhaps thinking of her lover far away at the border with no news, the princess’s tears fell to the ground.
Making a soft “plop” sound.
The director finally raised his hand and called out: “Cut! One take!”
Qu Lingxuan quickly stepped forward to hand Xu Zhiyi a tissue. “Zhiyi, wipe your tears quickly.”
This was the last scene of the morning, and since no touch-ups were needed for now, Xu Zhiyi casually accepted it.
The director also came over, praising her endlessly: “You’re in great form today, Zhiyi.”
He actually wanted to compliment Ruan Yang as well, but it seemed she had gone to remove her makeup right after filming.
Maybe she’s still not used to it, Wu Jun thought to himself.
Xu Zhiyi returned the director’s compliments and glanced around. Not seeing Ruan Yang, the light in her eyes slowly dimmed.
During the break, Xu Zhiyi sat in the lounge drinking water.
As if bewitched, her mind was filled with the way Ruan Yang had looked up at her earlier.
After thinking for a while, Xu Zhiyi suddenly sighed.
She had actually deluded herself into thinking she could decipher something from Ruan Yang’s gaze.
Not far away, Jiang Jiang was playing a match-three game, her cheerful sounds filling the air. Xu Zhiyi, for some reason, suddenly looked up and asked her: “Jiang Jiang, if there was something very important to you, but I deliberately made you miss it and then used it to tattle on you afterward.”
Perhaps realizing how childish she sounded as she spoke, Xu Zhiyi asked a bit awkwardly, “Will you be angry with me?”
Jiang Jiang didn’t even lift her head, offering an understanding smile at the words. “Sister Zhiyi, are you talking about Assistant Ruan?”
“…” Xu Zhiyi practically sprang up from her chair. “Don’t make things up, I was just asking!”
“Isn’t it way too obvious?” Jiang Jiang couldn’t help but feel a little helpless. “Sister Zhiyi, I’ve been meaning to ask you, what exactly is your relationship with that Assistant Ruan? Ever since the first time you two met, I could tell the vibe between you was off. Did you know each other before?”
Xu Zhiyi sat back down. “Never mind how we met. Just tell me, will you be angry or not?”
Jiang Jiang paused what she was doing to think for a moment, glanced sideways at Xu Zhiyi nearby, and smiled. “No, I won’t.”
“Really?” Xu Zhiyi seemed skeptical.
From the way Ruan Yang had been treating her lately, it seemed like she was a bit upset.
Ruan Yang wouldn’t even help her pick out the chili peppers from the diced chicken anymore.
“Really,” Jiang Jiang finally put down her phone and looked seriously at Xu Zhiyi. “Because you’re Xu Zhiyi.”
Because you’re Xu Zhiyi, no one would blame you.
Jiang Jiang was sure that was exactly what Assistant Ruan thought.
Only her Sister Zhiyi couldn’t see what was really on Assistant Ruan’s mind.
Xu Zhiyi pondered for a while. “But she’s been acting a bit strange lately.”
Jiang Jiang thought it best to let her Sister Zhiyi figure out Assistant Ruan on her own.
She cleared her throat and said earnestly, “Trust me, Sister Zhiyi, Assistant Ruan definitely isn’t angry with you. Take me, for example, if you accidentally hurt me, as long as you gently pinch my cheek and say ‘good girl,’ I’d forgive you right away.”
Xu Zhiyi suddenly hesitated. “Really?”
“Really.” Jiang Jiang nodded.
No one could resist Xu Zhiyi.
That was the one truth Jiang Jiang had come to understand in her years as Xu Zhiyi’s assistant.
During the afternoon filming, Xu Zhiyi glanced over at Ruan Yang several times.
She was so distracted that even Qu Lingxuan noticed something was off. “What’s wrong, Zhiyi? Didn’t you rest well at noon?”
“A little.” It was quite hot today, and Xu Zhiyi was wearing heavy period costume. She had tried almost every cooling method available but still felt unbearably warm.
Qu Lingxuan noticed Xu Zhiyi’s pale complexion and raised a hand to shield her from some of the sun.
The gesture was almost useless. Xu Zhiyi’s head still felt dizzy as she walked to the pavilion where the director was resting and sat on a stone bench, asking Jiang Jiang to fetch her a bottle of cold water.
Jiang Jiang had barely stepped out of the pavilion when a bottle of ice-cold water, misted with condensation, was handed to Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi followed the hand holding the bottle upward and saw Ruan Yang’s profile.
Ruan Yang didn’t look at Xu Zhiyi, her voice slightly hoarse as she spoke. “Here.”
Xu Zhiyi didn’t refuse. She gave a weak smile and was about to say something to Ruan Yang when she saw her walk straight over to the director.
“Director, I’d like to request to join Group B with Deputy Director Chen this afternoon,” Ruan Yang said.
“Group B?” Wu Jun thought for a moment. “Group B does have a good scene this afternoon. It’ll be a good learning opportunity for you. Go ahead.”
Ruan Yang gave a slight nod and left the area.
She continued walking briskly, and Xu Zhiyi’s words, “I can’t unscrew this, could you help me?” were already on the tip of her tongue, but she had no choice but to swallow them back.
Xu Zhiyi suddenly felt a strong urge to sigh.
She set down the water bottle, her thirst completely gone, and went back to filming.
The afternoon temperature steadily climbed, and by a little past three, it was hot enough to fry an egg right on the pavement.
The director stepped out of the pavilion to check the weather, and as soon as he emerged, sweat beaded on his forehead.
Filming any longer in this heat would be dangerous. He clapped his hands, signaling for a temporary break.
He turned around to inform Xu Zhiyi and Qu Lingxuan, but just as he did, he watched in horror as Xu Zhiyi’s face turned deathly pale. She swayed unsteadily, closed her eyes, and collapsed backward.
“Zhiyi!”
Made it just in time here’s the second update for today.
Check out the synopsis for my upcoming novel, After Transmigrating into a Cannon Fodder, I Won by Being a Couch Potato, in the column below. Please add it to your collection (mwah)!
Lu Zhihe had worked herself to the bone for over twenty years in her previous life, only to die from overwork right before her promotion.
She transmigrated into a novel, becoming an Alpha young lady from a wealthy family.
After crossing over, Lu Zhihe vowed to live the rest of her life as a couch potato.
But before she could even enjoy a few days of leisure, a system suddenly appeared, informing her that her family, as cannon fodder antagonists, was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Only hard work could change their fate.
Lu Zhihe: …
Hard work? Not in this lifetime!
She had no choice but to turn her attention to her doting family.
Her two mothers: “Sweetie, which mall’s clothes do you like? We’ll sell everything we have to buy them for you, we mean the entire mall.”
Her two older sisters: “Xiaohe, is there someone you like? The money we have left is enough for you to support one. Just say the word, and we’ll tie them up for you I mean, bring them to you.”
Lu Zhihe: QAQ
Can’t you guys be a little more ambitious?!
To avoid the fate of bankruptcy, Lu Zhihe took an unconventional approach.
In the mornings, she urged her two mothers to learn how to manage the company. In the afternoons, she stopped her two sisters from sneaking off to slack. In the evenings, she required everyone to submit a reflection report.
Watching her family members transform from couch potatoes into industry leaders step by step, Lu Zhihe beamed with pride:
“You have to work hard to create the future I want!” (clenching her fist)
As the Lu family slowly improved, Lu Zhihe was about to relax and return to her lazy lifestyle when the system reappeared, informing her that the center of this world was the protagonist Omega, Lian Xi.
Lian Xi was on the verge of collapse, and if she were to die, Lu Zhihe’s life would crumble as well.
So, Lu Zhihe reluctantly dragged herself up again and sought out Lian Xi, who was still an unknown at the time.
As soon as they met, she grasped Lian Xi’s hands and said, “Our pheromones are a 100% match. Can you live on, for my sake?”
With her support, Lian Xi indeed rediscovered hope in life.
Lu Zhihe looked on with satisfaction as the protagonist Omega grew more and more outstanding under her guidance.
#Today, I really worked hard motivating others to strive.
At first, Lian Xi thought Lu Zhihe was just plain weird.
But in the days that followed, Lu Zhihe became an inseparable part of her life.
She accompanied her through rainstorms, gave her warm hugs when she was exhausted from filming, and spent two hours arguing online to defend her.
Lian Xi weathered her lowest moments with Lu Zhihe by her side.
Just as she finally won the Best Actress award and mustered the courage to confess her feelings to Lu Zhihe, she finally learned.
Lu Zhihe’s claim of “one hundred percent pheromone compatibility” was nothing but a lie.
With her pheromone perception disorder, she didn’t actually like me at all.
But since I had already given my heart completely, Lianxi had no choice but to corner her in the alley.
Her eyes were red-rimmed as she said,
“Lu Zhihe, since you’re the one who provoked me, you’ll have to spend the rest of your life making it up to me.”
