After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 61
Chapter 61
After fixing the door, during the gap while Kusakabe and Chinari were helping move the tatami, Jin Chaoyan led Hibari Kyoya toward the floor in the Vongola base designated for “bicycle practice.”
When they arrived, Spanner and Giannini were repairing a line of sleek, cool motorcycles. Unlike the ones seen outside, these bikes had no tires; they featured a base designed to remain parallel to the ground, with various color schemes like white-blue and black-red.
“Mr. Hibari, Miss Chaoyan, good evening.”
Giannini, suppressing his grief, looked up from a motorcycle that had been battered until it was covered in “wounds” by the other boys. He greeted them, his gaze lingering tremulously on the youth dressed in a white shirt and the old Namimori Middle School uniform jacket:
“Are you also here to practice with the motorbikes? There are two unused ones over there; please feel free to choose whichever you like.”
The blond Spanner was nearby biting a lollipop, his gaze flat and thoughtful as it swept over the two of them, though he said nothing.
Hibari Kyoya had no intention of greeting them either. He calmly turned his head, looked at the bikes Giannini had mentioned, and picked one that caught his eye. Striding over with his long legs, he twisted the throttle. Feeling the bike immediately hover in mid-air, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
Then, in the next second, he parked the bike back, turned around calmly, and said to Jin Chaoyan, “Let’s go.”
Giannini: “?”
He stammered, “Excuse me, is there a problem?”
Hibari didn’t speak. After he had walked a few steps away, Jin Chaoyan could only smile and answer for him, “No, it’s just that he already knows how to drive it.”
Giannini: “Eh?”
Spanner, who had been observing Hibari’s movements for a while, chimed in, “Indeed, his movements are very skilled; he must have learned to ride motorcycles before. However, these bikes use Dying Will Flames as fuel. When the ‘Choice’ battle begins, if the fuel runs out, please remind this Cloud Guardian to ignite his ring to refill it.”
“Alright.”
Jin Chaoyan gave them an “OK” gesture. Remembering they hadn’t appeared at the dinner table, she reminded the two mechanical geeks not to forget to eat. Turning around, she had to quicken her pace to catch up with the boy. “Wait, Chairman, you’re walking too fast.”
“I hate crowding.”
The boy standing in the elevator with his arms crossed looked at her. After dropping this line as a matter of course, he saw the woman nod in understanding, yet he suddenly added, “But you seem to have a good relationship with this pack of herbivores.”
Not only was she familiar with the routes in this base, but she could even chat a bit with everyone.
Jin Chaoyan blinked, unsure of what he meant. Did the fifteen-year-old Hibari hate crowding to the point of not allowing those close to him to have too much contact with the Vongola members?
She was a bit confused, but the youth didn’t intend to say more.
He had simply confirmed one thing—
His ten-years-later self seemed to like this small animal very much, sharing assets with her without hesitation and allowing her to participate in “crowding” activities right under his nose.
He would even resort to some ridiculous little tricks just to be close to her.
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable under his gaze, she saw the elevator reach the B5 floor. She walked out with him and mentioned what Spanner had said earlier, only for the boy to nonchalantly reply as soon as she opened her mouth:
“I heard that part.”
Oh.
Unable to find a topic, Jin Chaoyan could only dryly add, “Then I wish you and them a triumphant victory in ‘Choice’.” She even pointedly referred to him and the Vongola group separately.
Despite this, Hibari Kyoya glanced at her and calmly countered, “I am enough on my own. I will bite them all to death.”
The lone wolf speech has appeared!
Jin Chaoyan praised him smoothly, “Right, but aren’t the rules for this time set by Byakuran? One must follow the rules when playing a game, so please endure it for a bit, Chairman. It won’t be too late to bite them to death after the game is over, right?”
Noticing he didn’t speak, which seemed to be silent agreement, the woman breathed a sigh of relief. “In short, be careful.”
The youth walking beside her suddenly stopped. He heard a different meaning in her words. “You aren’t going?”
“Well…”
Jin Chaoyan vaguely remembered that Byakuran wasn’t defeated here, so she deduced that the result of “Choice” wouldn’t be good. If she appeared at the scene, she would likely end up providing money and skills but still be unable to change the outcome.
In that case, there was no need for her to appear.
Her violet eyes curved into a smile. “Do you really want me to go? If you want—”
“No need.”
The youth turned back, his tone indifferent, but the slight lift of his chin displayed an extremely obvious arrogance. “Wait at the base. I can win.”
Starting the next day, Hibari Kyoya’s training with Dino was moved to the Vongola base, specifically the floor where the future Hibari had trained Jin Chaoyan. However, the targets in the room had been removed, leaving it empty.
Supposedly, Dino had rushed over from the Italian battlefield to guide him on how to master the power of the Vongola Box. Because the young Hibari’s definition of “crowding” covered a wide area, Jin Chaoyan didn’t go to watch the excitement; even Kusakabe just waited outside in the hallway.
After Sawada Tsuna and the others spent five days struggling to drive the motorbikes, Dino took a moment to call them together and announce that they also needed to begin training with the Vongola Boxes.
At the same time.
Haru and Kyoko could finally no longer endure the increasingly tense atmosphere of the base and the terrifying noises that occurred from time to time. They decided not to be fooled by the boys anymore. Using a strike as leverage, they demanded the truth, otherwise refusing to do laundry or cook for them ever again.
“They are really too much! Chaoyan, Chinari, you’ll stand on the side of our Girls’ Alliance, right?”
Haru clenched her fists and swung them at the air twice. After a passionate rant about the boys’ excessive behavior, she tried to recruit Jin Chaoyan and Chinari, who had come over for a meal.
“Of course.”
Jin Chaoyan picked up I-Pin and nodded, even saying, “Just us striking isn’t enough. I’ll go chat with Mr. Yamamoto in a bit. Don’t worry, I will definitely do everything I can to support your actions until they are willing to tell you the truth.”
Haru and Kyoko looked at each other and laughed together. Then Haru gave Jin Chaoyan a big hug, moved by her support.
Reborn and Fuuta, sensing something was wrong, found women’s clothing from somewhere and also firmly expressed their support for the Girls’ Alliance.
In the end—
In the entire base, the list of boys starting to fend for themselves and endure hunger included Sawada Tsuna, Sasagawa Ryohei, Yamamoto Takeshi, Lambo, and Basil.
This was because from the day he received the news, Dino had taken Romario to the Hibari base to scavenge meals. Even after being threatened by Hibari’s tonfas multiple times, he still didn’t give up.
The second day of the hunger strike.
Jin Chaoyan walked out of the kitchen with Chinari, carrying food boxes she had prepared for Hibari and Dino. At the elevator, she ran into the famished Sawada Tsuna and the others, who had just finished training.
“Wait.”
The Vongola Decimo smelled the exceptionally domineering scent of the hamburgers in her hands. He couldn’t help but look at her with his amber eyes. “Chaoyan-san, since you’re bringing food to Hibari-san, could you give us some too…?”
Hayato Gokudera, on the other hand, provoked her somewhat irritably, “I thought your alliance was so firm, but it turns out it’s just this. Name your price—how much to leave that food behind?”
Yamamoto Takeshi scratched the back of his head with a helpless smile. “Sorry, Chaoyan, we really have been hungry for a while. We made do with instant noodles yesterday. Could you help us out?”
Sasagawa Ryohei chimed in, “If you’re willing to help, I will be ‘extremely’ grateful!”
Jin Chaoyan stepped into the elevator, thought about it, and nodded to Yamamoto Takeshi. “Sure, Yamamoto-kun, come with me. But the others are out.”
The other boys: “?”
Hayato Gokudera and Sasagawa Ryohei each held one side of the elevator, wanting to negotiate further. Jin Chaoyan gave Chinari a look, signaling her not to follow, then smiled at the boys. “I’m in a bit of a hurry. If you want to convince me, you can all step inside.”
Sawada Tsuna felt something wasn’t right, but his brain was dominated by hunger. By the time he realized, the elevator doors had closed. Jin Chaoyan pressed the button for the B8 floor.
The elevator descended slowly. The woman trapped alone in the elevator looked very relaxed until the moment the “ding” sounded—
“Wait! This floor is…!”
Purple flames illuminated the elevator through the hallway with domineering intensity. Jin Chaoyan raised her voice and shouted toward the outside:
“Chairman, there are people here trying to steal your lunch!”
Sawada Tsuna: “?” We were supposed to negotiate peacefully; how could you be the first to deploy a nuclear weapon!
Five minutes later.
Yamamoto Takeshi looked at his companions in the hallway, who weren’t allowed inside. He thought about Jin Chaoyan’s condition—”Because I owe you a favor, I can share with you, but I absolutely won’t give a single bite to the others.” After hesitating for a long time, he could only look at Jin Chaoyan apologetically:
“In that case, I’m sorry, Chaoyan. I really can’t leave them behind and enjoy this alone.”
Jin Chaoyan shrugged, indicating it was expected. After he left, she turned around in the empty training room and saw Hibari Kyoya holding the food box. He picked up his chopsticks and asked calmly, “What boring crowding game are you playing?”
“Oh.” She thought for a bit and explained casually, “It’s just that they acted unreasonably and angered the girls in the base. Now no one cooks or does laundry for them, and they find life extremely inconvenient, so they’re trying to win some sympathy from me.”
Hibari Kyoya nodded, unable to empathize with their suffering. “Boring.”
In the hallway outside, Sawada Tsuna, with a bit of a nosebleed from being punched, murmured, “But Chaoyan-san really is biased… Didn’t she say she wouldn’t cook for any of the boys? Is it just because she and Hibari-san are husband and wife ten years from now?”
Jin Chaoyan glanced at the boy waiting alone in the training room, then stepped back twice to look at the boys who had already hid in the hallway outside the door. “That’s not it.”
“There are two reasons he can eat. First, Mr. Kusakabe is his assistant and can handle his daily life so he isn’t affected.”
“Second, his ten-years-later self didn’t hide intelligence regarding Millefiore and Vongola from me. Even after he left, Mr. Kusakabe followed his orders and reported the latest intel to me in a timely manner.”
Kusakabe, acting as a background character, nodded, indicating the Madam was right.
Sawada Tsuna: “…”
He instinctively said, “But Kyoko and Haru are different—”
They didn’t possess the strength to protect themselves like Jin Chaoyan. If they knew too much dangerous information, they would be drawn into this dangerous vortex for no reason. This was something neither he nor Sasagawa Ryohei wanted to see.
As he spoke, Sawada Tsuna saw the weapon faintly visible at her waist under her thin long-sleeved jacket. It was as if he suddenly remembered that not long ago, this person was also just an ordinary person who couldn’t ignite flames.
But the future Hibari Kyoya had given her a weapon she could use even without flames and had even personally taught her how to fight.
Sawada Tsuna suddenly fell silent.
Jin Chaoyan noticed the change in his expression and knew his stance might be wavering, but she only smiled. “If you say it’s different, then it’s different. Anyway, I hope you can hold out a bit longer. I quite admire your self-reliant posture.”
Hayato Gokudera immediately clenched his fists. “You woman, are you mocking the Decimo?”
“No, I sincerely hope you hold out to the end.”
She turned and went back into the training room. Thinking of the weapon Sawada Tsuna had seen, she casually drew the silver pistol from its holster and twirled it in her palm.
The youth watched her movements, put down his chopsticks, and curled his lips with interest:
“Is that your weapon?”
“Yes.” Jin Chaoyan nodded. Her gaze on it was very gentle, and her voice was light. “The ten-years-later you made it specifically for me. Pretty, isn’t it?”
Before Hibari could speak, a sudden, explosive greeting blasted through the base’s loudspeakers, nearly traumatizing everyone’s eardrums:
“VIOOOOOOOOOOOOOO—!!!”
“Yamamoto Takeshi, where are you?!”
Jin Chaoyan: “…!” Her expression was instantly stunned into a blank state.
B5 Floor, Operation Room.
Because he received news of Squalo’s arrival, Dino had cut his lunch short outside the base and hurried back with Romario. When they arrived, Sawada Tsuna and the other boys were also rushing over.
Jin Chaoyan, still dazed, had originally intended to return to the other side of the base. However, because she had been too rattled by the blast earlier, she took a wrong turn after exiting the elevator and unknowingly walked near the Operation Room.
A tall man with long silvery-white hair, wearing the Varia combat uniform and holding a sword in his left hand, handed a massive salmon to Dino along with a strange box that looked like it had been pulled from the seabed.
Dino: “?”
“A souvenir I brought for you on the way,” Squalo said casually. “Doesn’t that student of yours have a problem with sexual function? I specifically picked this salmon and gathered some oysters on the way. Have him eat more to supplement himself while he’s young.”
Sawada Tsuna, Yamamoto Takeshi, Sasagawa Ryohei, Hayato Gokudera, and Basil, who had followed him in: “?!”
Jin Chaoyan, who had walked nearby in a daze: “?!”
Reborn suddenly dropped from the ceiling, standing on the table and adjusting his black fedora. “Since when did this happen?”
“Hmm?” Squalo was about to speak when he noticed Yamamoto Takeshi entering from the back. He headed straight for him, throwing a punch and a knee strike. Before the nearby boys could even react, he knocked Yamamoto out and hoisted him onto his shoulder.
“I heard the Vongola headquarters held a physical exam a few months ago, and that guy’s body was found to have problems—”
“Doesn’t matter. I’m taking Yamamoto Takeshi. Do as you please.”
Leaving this bombshell, Squalo walked away with Yamamoto on his shoulder under the dumbfounded gazes of Tsuna and the others.
At the door, he noticed Jin Chaoyan’s presence. He glanced at her, and seeing it was a woman he didn’t recognize, he said nothing and left.
Dino noticed the movement and saw Jin Chaoyan, his expression instantly looking like he had seen a savior. He handed her the salmon and the box of oysters still smelling of seawater:
“Chaoyan, you’re just in time. I wouldn’t dare give these two things to Kyoya.”
Jin Chaoyan: “?” Do you think I’m in a hurry to die?
Reborn was immensely interested in the huge gossip he just heard. He curled his lips, his large black eyes looking at Jin Chaoyan. “So, is the news Squalo just mentioned true?”
Beside him, Sawada Tsuna was in a state of deep daze, unsure whether to worry about Yamamoto or about this major news that had been leaked about Hibari-senpai.
“I mean…” Under Reborn’s high-pressure gaze, Jin Chaoyan gave a weak smile. Remembering the news she had bought for five hundred dollars, she really wanted to give an affirmative answer, but she couldn’t bring herself to humiliate Hibari in public like this.
So she replied weakly, pitifully, and helplessly, “Is it possible that it would be more appropriate for you to ask Hibari about this matter in person?”
“What?”
A familiar voice rang out from nearby.
The woman turned her head abruptly to notice the boy had arrived on this floor at some point. The black uniform jacket was draped over his shoulders, his collar open as usual, revealing a snowy white shirt and neat suit trousers. Currently, he was looking at her calmly. His thin lips moved as he said flatly:
“What do you want to ask me in person?”
