After Transmigrating into an ABO World with My Rival - Chapter 20
Having been beaten twice in a row, Fu Baiyu’s initial curiosity toward Chen Yanzhi had turned into a dogged determination to possess him. He was bent on making this Beta pay the price; he wanted to see him kneeling and begging for his favor.
Looking at Fu Baiyu’s unrepentant expression, Chen Yanzhi was so enraged he wanted to deliver a few more punches, but he was held back firmly by Jiang Tang.
Giving him a reassuring look, Jiang Tang turned to Fu Baiyu and said, “Second Young Master, you should go tend to the injuries on your face first. We can discuss this matter in detail later.”
The other Alphas, hearing that this beautiful Beta belonged to Fu Tingyue, felt their legs turn to jelly. They practically crawled as they helped Fu Baiyu away, their hearts sinking. They had mingled with Fu Baiyu solely to climb the social ladder of the Fu family. If they offended Fu Tingyue, forget about making connections—they might not even be able to stay in the capital.
Once they were gone, Jiang Tang looked at Chen Yanzhi with concern. “Rest assured, Young Master Chen, I will handle this. Are you hurt anywhere?”
Fu Tingyue had repeatedly instructed him to protect Chen Yanzhi. For such an incident to happen on the very first day was a failure on his part. He had known Fu Baiyu attended this school but hadn’t warned Chen Yanzhi in advance.
Still fuming, Chen Yanzhi took a deep breath to force himself to calm down. He turned away and said, “I’m fine.” He had been impulsive again; he wondered if he would cause trouble for Fu Tingyue.
As he was brooding, Lin Xubai’s voice drifted over from behind him, sounding uneasy. “Yanzhi.”
Chen Yanzhi adjusted his mood and turned to smile at Lin Xubai. “Xiaobai.”
Lin Xubai glanced at the fierce-looking bodyguards nearby and took a few timid steps toward Chen Yanzhi. “What happened?”
“Nothing.” Chen Yanzhi shook his head with a smile. After exchanging a look with Jiang Tang, he said to Lin Xubai, “Let’s go eat. I’m a bit hungry.”
Lin Xubai knew something had definitely happened, but since Chen Yanzhi didn’t want to talk about it, he didn’t pry further and led him toward the dining hall.
Chen Yanzhi was in a foul mood, and the cafeteria food was mediocre at best. After a few bites, he lost his appetite and began chatting with Fu Tingyue on his phone. Fu Tingyue already knew about him hitting Fu Baiyu; he didn’t scold him, only asked if he was hurt.
This made Chen Yanzhi feel even more guilty. He messaged: “Aren’t you angry? I keep causing trouble for you.”
He hadn’t wanted it to be like this, but when Fu Baiyu insulted Fu Tingyue, he just couldn’t control his temper.
Fu Tingyue replied quickly: “As long as you’re okay. Jiang Tang told me; Fu Baiyu deserved it.”
Chen Yanzhi sighed and hesitated before messaging: “When are you coming back? I don’t want to stay home alone.”
Fu Tingyue replied instantly: “Does Zhizhi miss me?”
Chen Yanzhi admitted it frankly: “Yeah, I miss you. I have no appetite eating alone at home.”
Since their reunion, he had always been with Fu Tingyue. The sudden separation was hard to get used to, and after the incident with Fu Baiyu, he missed him even more.
“I’ll try to come back as early as possible. Don’t have any more conflicts with Fu Baiyu for now. I’m worried he’ll go back and exaggerate things to get the Fu family to cause trouble for you.”
In short, since he wasn’t there to back him up, Chen Yanzhi needed to keep a low profile. Chen Yanzhi replied “understood” and chatted about some other nonsense.
Lin Xubai watched Chen Yanzhi giggling at his phone, and a bitter feeling rose in his heart. He knew Chen Yanzhi must be chatting with Fu Tingyue. Although Chen Yanzhi was very good to him and truly treated him as a friend, he had never seen him smile like that before.
Lin Xubai didn’t know what was wrong with him; they hadn’t known each other long, yet he was feeling possessive. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t control it. Chen Yanzhi was too good—so good he wanted him for himself.
Immersed in the funny emojis Fu Tingyue sent, Chen Yanzhi finally noticed Lin Xubai’s gaze. He briefly looked up from his screen. “Xiaobai, why do you keep staring at me? Is something wrong?”
He even held the phone out to Lin Xubai, naturally draping an arm over his shoulder. “Look at the emoji Fu Tingyue sent. I’m dying of laughter; I didn’t know he had such hilarious ones.”
Lin Xubai didn’t care about the emojis; instead, he noticed Chen Yanzhi’s nickname for Fu Tingyue. It wasn’t “Fu Tingyue” or any private nickname. The name at the top of the chat was [Xiao Zhi]. He wondered if it was a nickname for Fu Tingyue.
In a calm, curious tone, Lin Xubai asked, “You have President Fu saved as ‘Xiao Zhi’?”
Chen Yanzhi replied casually, “No, that’s just his nickname. I’m not used to setting custom contacts.”
Lin Xubai felt even more uneasy, but he maintained his gentle facade. “Does President Fu use your name as his nickname?”
Chen Yanzhi blinked as if discovering something new, his beautiful eyes wide. “Huh? That’s not my name, is it? He’s always used that.”
Fu Tingyue had indeed always used that nickname; back then, he even added a cicada icon at the end. Thus, Chen Yanzhi had never considered that those two characters (Xiao Zhi) might be related to his own name.
Lin Xubai felt fortunate for Chen Yanzhi’s denseness, yet he also felt a sense of powerlessness. If Fu Tingyue and Chen Yanzhi lived together and Chen Yanzhi couldn’t perceive his feelings, then what about him? What should he do?
Chen Yanzhi was busy saving the emojis Fu Tingyue sent though in reality, they were all emojis he had sent to Fu Tingyue first. His memory was just so poor that he forgot as soon as he sent them. His mood had fully recovered through the “sticker war.”
Watching the bright smile on Chen Yanzhi’s face, Lin Xubai’s heartbeat accelerated. He had to say it, otherwise Chen Yanzhi would never notice. After an internal struggle, he let out a long breath and smiled at Chen Yanzhi. “Yanzhi, are you free this Saturday? I’ll make something delicious for you.”
As absurd as it seemed, he truly liked Chen Yanzhi liked his flamboyant nature and his vibrant warmth. From their first meeting where Chen Yanzhi patiently taught him games, to the bar where he protected him and fought an Alpha, to the way he checked in on him at home via video calls—Lin Xubai had fallen.
In fact, he felt anyone who spent time with Chen Yanzhi would fall for him because he was so charming. He never thought he would like a Beta—especially one as beautiful as an Omega. He didn’t know if Chen Yanzhi could accept him, but he wanted to try. This was the first time in twenty years Lin Xubai had been so brave.
Usually, he did exactly as his parents told him. They had given him a task to get close to Chen Yanzhi so the Lin family could prosper. Lin Xubai knew this was all because of Fu Tingyue; if he confessed, he was essentially offending Fu Tingyue. But he didn’t want to have any regrets.
“Saturday?” Chen Yanzhi paused his sticker war. “Saturday I have to go to the airport to pick up Fu Tingyue. Can I bring him along?”
If he went to play at the Lin house the moment Fu Tingyue got back, the man would definitely be angry again. Chen Yanzhi didn’t want to have to coax him, so this was the best solution.
Though he didn’t really want Fu Tingyue there, Lin Xubai knew Chen Yanzhi wouldn’t come if he refused. “Sure. But President Fu is so busy, he might not have time.”
Chen Yanzhi smiled and waved his phone. “Don’t you worry about that.” Fu Tingyue was dying to taste Lin Xubai’s cooking just so he could compare it to his own; he’d be more than willing to go.
Chen Yanzhi was naturally carefree and still hadn’t adjusted to the gender divisions of this world. Whether with an Alpha or an Omega, he treated them like he would his own gender, lacking a sense of boundaries. He naively believed Lin Xubai just wanted to invite him over for food.
He didn’t know how Jiang Tang handled the situation with Fu Baiyu, but after that day, he didn’t encounter the man or his lackeys again. Chen Yanzhi enjoyed the peace and adjusted well to campus life. Aside from Fu Tingyue being away, everything was fine.
Finally, Saturday arrived. Chen Yanzhi actually got up early to go to the airport. Autumn had arrived, and the temperature had dropped; it had been raining since last night, leaving the ground wet and the air cool.
Chen Yanzhi sneezed several times as he got out of the car. He rubbed his nose and hurried inside, afraid Fu Tingyue wouldn’t see him when he came out. This was the first time they had been apart so long. Chen Yanzhi had been vocal about missing him, but Fu Tingyue never said it back, always changing the subject. Chen Yanzhi was a bit miffed, thinking Fu Tingyue must have found new friends and forgotten him.
But hearing the man was coming back, he wasn’t angry anymore. Fu Tingyue just had to “beg” a little, and he came to pick him up. Sometimes Chen Yanzhi felt he was too easy to coax, but he couldn’t help it; he couldn’t stay truly angry at Fu Tingyue.
Chen Yanzhi craned his neck, looking into the crowd. He didn’t see him. Jiang Tang reminded him, “Young Master Chen, President Fu should be coming through the VIP channel.”
He hurried to the VIP exit. Sure enough, Fu Tingyue appeared, looking sharp in a black suit. Due to his height and striking face, Chen Yanzhi spotted him instantly. Fu Tingyue saw him too and quickly walked over, calling out “Zhizhi.”
Chen Yanzhi felt he shouldn’t look too happy since the man hadn’t said he missed him. He crossed his arms, huffed, and turned to walk away. Fu Tingyue shook his head with a smile and followed him into the car.
Chen Yanzhi intended to stay angry for a bit, but the moment Fu Tingyue got in, he said, “I missed you so much.”
He froze for a second. Coming to his senses, he turned away to avoid looking at him, acting disgusted. “Who wants you to miss them? It’s gross when a grown man says stuff like that.”
Fu Tingyue suppressed a smile. “You said you missed me earlier.”
Chen Yanzhi wasn’t embarrassed at all. “That was just because my brain wasn’t working in the middle of the night. I told lots of people I missed them, not just you.”
Fu Tingyue’s voice turned cold instantly. “Is that so? Who else did you say it to?”
“Of course,” Chen Yanzhi said, feeling inexplicably guilty. “None of your business.”
“Really? None of my business?” Fu Tingyue asked coldly.
Chen Yanzhi threw a couple of punches at the air and grumbled, “Ugh, you’re so annoying! Can’t you tell I’m lying? I didn’t say it to anyone else. Seriously, you’re impossible.”
Fu Tingyue was satisfied, and the oppressive atmosphere vanished. He took an exquisite small box from his pocket. “A gift for you.”
Chen Yanzhi intended to refuse, but Fu Tingyue opened it first. It was a necklace, one he had wanted for a long time but was out of stock. He took the box and looked at it; it was indeed the one. He huffed arrogantly. “Since you’re being so sensible, I’ll be generous and forgive you.”
He really was easy to coax, but he’d let it slide this once. He’d save the anger for next time.
