- After Transmigrating into an ABO World with My Rival
- Chapter 17 - Simple-Minded and Grumpy
With the complete overhaul of the villa’s servants and bodyguards following Fu Tingyue’s fallout with his family, Chen Yanzhi felt much more at ease. Fu Tingyue assured him that these new people were trustworthy; as long as they didn’t mention the matter of their souls transmigrating into these bodies, everything would be fine.
However, staying at home all day was becoming incredibly boring. Although he had made a new friend in Lin Xubai, Lin Xubai was heading back to school in two days, which would leave Chen Yanzhi alone again. He decided to ask Fu Tingyue to find a school for him.
After hearing Chen Yanzhi’s thoughts, Fu Tingyue didn’t dismiss them. Instead, he patiently asked, “Would you like to go to the private university the Fu family invested in?”
Chen Yanzhi sprawled across Fu Tingyue’s office desk, turning his head with curiosity. “Can I go?”
The original owner of this body had never attended high school or taken the college entrance exams, so there weren’t many options besides private universities. He just wasn’t sure if a school backed by the Fu family would be easy to get into.
Fu Tingyue smiled. “Of course. I’ll have someone arrange it. What major do you want to study?”
Whatever Chen Yanzhi wanted to do, Fu Tingyue would help him achieve it. Moreover, with his current standing in the Fu family, let alone arranging a school placement, no one would object even if he brought Chen Yanzhi directly into the company to work.
Chen Yanzhi rubbed his chin, thinking for a moment before deferring to Fu Tingyue. “What do you think? What major makes it easy to find a job?”
Fu Tingyue couldn’t help but laugh. “You don’t need to consider that. Just pick what you want to learn. I can support you even if you don’t work.”
Chen Yanzhi waved a hand, turned around to sit in a chair, and crossed his legs. “That won’t do. What if you fall in love and get married in the future? I can’t have you supporting me forever; it wouldn’t be dignified.”
Fu Tingyue paused, momentarily shifting his gaze from the computer screen. He looked at Chen Yanzhi with a toneless expression. “You think I’ll marry someone else?”
Chen Yanzhi said it so naturally, as if his marriage to someone else was a foregone conclusion, which made Fu Tingyue feel a bit sour. If Chen Yanzhi had shown even a hint of displeasure or teased him about it, Fu Tingyue’s mood would have been slightly better.
Sensing that Fu Tingyue’s mood had shifted, Chen Yanzhi swallowed his next words and pivoted to a more tactful explanation. “Just in case. I can’t let you support me for a lifetime. I still need to learn something to stand on my own feet.”
“Chen Yanzhi, you…”
Fu Tingyue originally wanted to scold him, but seeing Chen Yanzhi’s innocent and bewildered expression, he forced the words back and let out a helpless sigh. “I will not marry someone else.”
Sometimes he truly wanted to pry open Chen Yanzhi’s head to see what he was thinking. He wanted to lock him away regardless of the consequences and tell him every single thought buried in his heart. But Fu Tingyue knew he couldn’t do that.
Chen Yanzhi casually swiped an hourglass from Fu Tingyue’s desk, playing with it as he spoke. “I’m just making an analogy. Even if you don’t get married, it’s never wrong for me to learn something. More skills never hurt.”
Fu Tingyue knew that if they continued this, Chen Yanzhi would get angry again, so he shifted the topic. “Let’s pick a major.”
Chen Yanzhi played with the hourglass, stood up, and walked over to Fu Tingyue’s side to peek at the computer screen. He let out a gasp. “So many?”
Fu Tingyue turned slightly and explained slowly, “Many of these are majors unique to this world, but almost everything from our world exists here too. See what you want to study.”
Since childhood, Chen Yanzhi had developed well in all areas; he was proficient in musical instruments, equestrianism, art, skiing, and fencing. He was also very bright with good grades, able to master anything he put his mind to quickly.
Looking at the dense list of majors, Chen Yanzhi felt dizzy. He simply asked Fu Tingyue, “Is fashion design popular?”
Fu Tingyue nodded. “It’s decent.”
Chen Yanzhi didn’t overthink it. He placed the hourglass back in its original spot with a thud and patted Fu Tingyue’s shoulder. “Then let’s go with that. It’s the same major I chose before; consider it making up for a regret.”
Fu Tingyue immediately had someone handle the arrangements. Seeing Chen Yanzhi slumped in his chair like he had no bones, he said helplessly, “You’ll start in a week. They use a credit system here; you can graduate as soon as you complete your credits. I’ll have you registered as a commuter student; I’m afraid you wouldn’t get used to staying in the dorms.”
The original owner of Fu Tingyue’s body had completed all credits and graduated early in just over a year. Although he was only 22, he had been out of university for nearly two years and held a double degree. Fu Tingyue figured Chen Yanzhi could likely finish his credits in about two years—maybe even faster.
Chen Yanzhi was spinning his chair around. Hearing Fu Tingyue speak, he stopped, tilted his head back, and gave him a wide grin. “Thanks, Xiao Fu.”
Fu Tingyue turned the chair back, pinning the base with his foot. “If you’re bored at home, come to the office with me. I’ll take you out for something good tonight.” He hadn’t brought Chen Yanzhi to the company yet; today was a good chance to let him show his face.
Chen Yanzhi remained leaning back lazily, his fair neck forming a beautiful curve as his Adam’s apple bobbed. “Going to the office just means watching you work. Isn’t that even more boring?”
Fu Tingyue withdrew his gaze from Chen Yanzhi’s neck and collarbone, casually organizing his documents. “Just think of it as keeping me company.”
Chen Yanzhi looked up at Fu Tingyue, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Then beg me.”
Fu Tingyue didn’t hesitate for a second. “I beg you.”
“Not enough sincerity.” Chen Yanzhi was getting into it, unable to resist pushing further. “Say, ‘I beg Chen Yanzhi to show mercy and keep me company.'”
Fu Tingyue sounded like an emotionless repeater. “I beg Chen Yanzhi to show mercy and keep me company.”
Chen Yanzhi snorted. “Robot.”
Fu Tingyue didn’t argue. He patted Chen Yanzhi’s shoulder and said, “Let’s go.”
Chen Yanzhi didn’t want to move, naturally reaching out a hand to Fu Tingyue.
Fu Tingyue scanned him from head to toe. “What, do you want me to carry you?”
Chen Yanzhi gave Fu Tingyue’s leg a playful kick and laughed. “Get lost!”
Fu Tingyue reached out and pulled him up from the chair, naturally helping him straighten his clothes and hair. The touch made Chen Yanzhi a bit ticklish; he swatted Fu Tingyue’s hand away, fixed his own hair, and walked out first.
Fu Tingyue rubbed his fingers together, trying to wipe away the residual warmth, but it backfired. The heat traveled from his fingertips straight to his heart, leaving him restless with longing.
Oblivious to Fu Tingyue’s internal struggle, Chen Yanzhi looked around as they got into the car. “Fu Tingyue, why did you change cars again?”
Fu Tingyue set aside the dessert the nanny had made for Chen Yanzhi and said casually, “A gift from a business partner. You should go get your driver’s license soon; I’ll buy you a car.”
Chen Yanzhi slumped into the seat, looking utterly lazy. “I don’t want to take the test. Can’t you just be my driver?”
Fu Tingyue glanced at the driver’s observant gaze and nodded without hesitation. “Sure.”
Chen Yanzhi patted Fu Tingyue’s leg with satisfaction. He tilted his head back and closed his eyes, exposing his beautiful face with a faint smile on his lips. “Good job, Xiao Fu. You’re getting more sensible by the day. Keep up the good work.”
Fu Tingyue shook his head and laughed, his eyes full of doting affection.
Seeing this, the driver and the nearby bodyguard quickly exchanged a glance. They were well aware of this new employer’s identity and his cold personality. But it seemed that whenever he was with Chen Yanzhi, he always showed a different side—doting on him to an extreme. It didn’t look like they were just ordinary friends, yet Chen Yanzhi seemed to view Fu Tingyue as nothing more than a friend.
Fu Tingyue shot them a cold look, instantly extinguishing their curiosity. The atmosphere in the car became eerily quiet. Chen Yanzhi, however, was sleeping soundly. He had stayed up late last night helping Lin Xubai with games and hadn’t rested well; he was far too sleepy to notice anyone else.
When they arrived at the office, Chen Yanzhi was still asleep. Because it was Fu Tingyue who woke him, he was currently glaring at him with a frown, silently expressing his displeasure.
Since childhood, Chen Yanzhi had an incredibly bad case of “morning grumpiness.” Back in middle and high school, when he never got enough sleep, Fu Tingyue would pick him up early every morning, and Chen Yanzhi’s grumpiness was almost entirely vented on him. But once the mood passed, he would apologize. In truth, Fu Tingyue never got angry; instead, he found Chen Yanzhi’s tantrums quite cute, like a ruffled kitten.
True to form, after his tantrum, Chen Yanzhi leaned toward Fu Tingyue with a face full of apology. “Sorry. This habit is just too hard to break.”
Fu Tingyue hung his coat on the rack, casually unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt and rolling his sleeves to his elbows. “No need to change. It’s not like you’re like this with anyone else.”
Chen Yanzhi leaned over the office desk, his restless hands touching everything. “Don’t you find me annoying?”
Fu Tingyue moved a chair behind Chen Yanzhi and said tenderly, “You’ve been like this since you were little. I don’t find it annoying.” It was very cute.
Chen Yanzhi had expected Fu Tingyue to say that. He clapped his hands and sat in the chair, naturally crossing his legs. “Is your schedule today just handling documents in the office?”
Fu Tingyue had the assistant bring in some food and drinks and sat down across from Chen Yanzhi. “I have a meeting in a bit, and I have to meet a partner after that.”
Chen Yanzhi sprawled on the desk and sighed. “So busy.”
Fu Tingyue hummed. “I’ll try to finish as quickly as possible.” The Fu family’s business was primarily in real estate and tourism, so there was a lot to do. Furthermore, Fu Tingyue had recently started developing his own industries, adding to the workload.
The assistant soon brought in a variety of treats. Chen Yanzhi ate the desserts the nanny had prepared while sipping iced coffee, asking half-heartedly, “Is there anything I can help you with?”
Fu Tingyue placed a tissue in front of Chen Yanzhi, resisting the urge to wipe his mouth for him. “Just staying here with me is enough. I don’t need your help.”
Chen Yanzhi stuffed an entire cream puff into his mouth and grumbled with bulging cheeks, “You’re like a primary schooler, needing someone to sit with you while you do your homework.”
Fu Tingyue smiled and nodded. “Fine, consider me a primary schooler then.”
“Thick-skinned. How old are you and you’re still a schooler?” Chen Yanzhi said, picking up a puff and offering it to Fu Tingyue.
Fu Tingyue didn’t like sweets, but Chen Yanzhi rarely fed him personally. He opened his mouth and took it. His mouth was instantly filled with the taste of cream, and the sweetness made him frown slightly.
Chen Yanzhi took a sip of iced coffee and chirped, “Delicious, right?”
Fu Tingyue took a sip of his unsweetened coffee, and once the taste in his mouth faded slightly, he lied through his teeth. “Delicious.” It wasn’t actually good, but it was delicious because Chen Yanzhi fed it to him.
A mischievous glint flashed in Chen Yanzhi’s eyes as he offered another one. “Here’s another. Don’t say I treat you poorly.”
Fu Tingyue looked at the puff held between those slender fingertips and felt conflicted. He truly didn’t like it, but he didn’t want to miss the chance to be fed by Chen Yanzhi.
Fortunately, someone knocked on the door at that moment. Fu Tingyue breathed a silent sigh of relief and said, “Come in.”
Chen Yanzhi turned around and bit into the puff himself, looking at Fu Tingyue with a knowing smile. He actually knew Fu Tingyue didn’t like sweets; he just couldn’t resist the urge to torment him. Sometimes Chen Yanzhi felt he was a bit twisted, seeing Fu Tingyue so submissive made him want to bully him even more. It was an inexplicably satisfying feeling.
