- Chapter 16 - And You Say You’re Not Seducing Me?
With no extra people in the house, Chen Yanzhi felt much more at ease. After dinner, he headed straight for the outdoor pool.
He was determined to exercise and turn his frail body into something stronger. Reality, however, was unkind; he was still too weak. After just two laps, he was exhausted. He clung to the edge of the pool, gasping for air, his limbs trembling uncontrollably.
Glistening droplets of water slid down his beautiful, thin back, tracing the slight curve of his vertebrae and fair skin before dripping back into the pool with a tiny, inconspicuous splash.
Chen Yanzhi rested his face on his folded arms for a while. Then, he stood up and brushed the wet hair away from his forehead, revealing a smooth, rounded brow. Standing chest-deep in the center of the pool, his pale skin seemed to shimmer with a silvery light under the water, making him look breathtakingly beautiful.
Although Fu Tingyue had been meticulously nourishing him for nearly a month, Chen Yanzhi was still quite thin. His collarbones and shoulder blades were prominent, yet his waist was slender—half-submerged in the water, it looked like it could be spanned by a single hand. One could even catch a glimpse of two enticing dimples at the small of his back.
He smoothed his hair back once more, fully exposing his exquisite features. Even the water droplets clinging to his eyelashes looked like delicate crystals. He wanted to swim another lap, but he was too tired to move, so he continued to lounge by the poolside.
Suddenly, a hand appeared in his line of sight. Chen Yanzhi lazily traced the large palm upward to find Fu Tingyue looking down at him with a smile. “If you’re tired, come out. Don’t soak in there for too long.”
Chen Yanzhi sighed, his eyelids drooping as he leaned against his arm. “I’m such a weakling. I’m done after only two laps.”
Fu Tingyue grabbed his arm and hoisted him out of the water. He draped a bath towel over Chen Yanzhi’s shoulders before speaking. “Your body hasn’t fully recovered yet. The doctor said no high-intensity exercise. Two laps is already very impressive.”
Chen Yanzhi tsked, drying his hair. “You can swim eight laps. Stop lying through your teeth just to praise me.”
Fu Tingyue smiled slightly. “Our physical constitutions are different. Top Alphas naturally have better stamina.”
Chen Yanzhi’s current body was indeed weak, and he was a Beta. If he were an Omega, Fu Tingyue couldn’t even imagine the difficulty of nursing him back to health.
Chen Yanzhi didn’t argue. The Fu Tingyue of this world truly was a monster; he could handle a full workload even after several sleepless nights during his Rut.
After leaving the pool, Chen Yanzhi went to his bedroom to shower while Fu Tingyue waited outside. Since the nightmares had stopped, he had moved back to his own room. After all, two grown men sleeping in the same bed every night wasn’t quite appropriate.
When Chen Yanzhi emerged from the shower, he heard Fu Tingyue on the phone. From the tone of the conversation, it was Fu Baiyu’s mother, calling about the afternoon incident.
Seeing Chen Yanzhi approach, Fu Tingyue naturally turned on the speakerphone. A sharp female voice pierced the air: “Fu Tingyue, have you lost your mind? Baiyu is your brother! You actually let a Beta of unknown origin lay a hand on him? And then you cleared out all the people I sent to care for you? Are you trying to rebel?”
Chen Yanzhi poked his head out, leaning against Fu Tingyue’s arm to peek at the phone screen, then looked up at Fu Tingyue. Fu Tingyue gave him a reassuring look and spoke calmly into the phone: “He trespassed without notice and was rude and insulting to my friend. Furthermore, I was the one who hit him. As for the servants, I have no use for them right now, so I sent them back.”
Before she could respond, Fu Tingyue emphasized, “And one more thing. Chen Yanzhi is not ‘of unknown origin.’ He is my friend.”
Fu Baiyu’s voice could be heard complaining in the background. Chen Yanzhi curled his lip in distaste. What a mama’s boy, running to his mother over every little thing. Shameless.
Madam Fu shouted angrily, “So you’re willing to fall out with your family for a so-called friend? Your brother’s health is poor, yet you, as the elder brother, still bully him! Are you trying to kill your father and me with anger?”
Faced with her unreasonable accusations and insults, Fu Tingyue remained exceptionally calm. Only after she finished her tirade did he speak slowly: “I have no such intention. But if you want to use this as an excuse to fall out with me, I don’t mind. As for Fu Baiyu, he bullied my person right in front of my face. A kick was getting off easy. If he acts this recklessly again, I’ll turn him into a permanent invalid. That way, he’ll actually be the sickly weakling you claim he is.”
Fu Tingyue knew very well that the Fu family couldn’t survive without him. Fu Youmin was getting older and lacked the energy to manage the company, and Fu Baiyu didn’t have the brains for it—all he knew was how to spend money. If the Fu family lost Fu Tingyue, the company would be devoured by the predatory board members in an instant. This was why the couple disliked Fu Tingyue yet kept him in charge. They loathed him, yet they had to rely on him.
An SS-class Alpha was a natural-born leader. Even without the title of the Fu family’s eldest son, plenty of large corporations would jump at the chance to hire him. The elders of the clan knew the value of a Top Alpha far better than the Fu parents did, which was why they had kept the couple in check all these years. Today, it seemed the younger son had been “wronged,” and his mother’s heart bled for him, prompting this confrontational call.
If this were the old Fu Tingyue, he would have been hurt by his parents’ blatant favoritism. But the current Fu Tingyue didn’t view them as parents at all. In this world, the only person who mattered to him was Chen Yanzhi.
Madam Fu was so angry her voice trembled. “I see you’ve lost your mind, seduced by that vixen Beta!”
Chen Yanzhi frowned in displeasure and spoke up: “Auntie, I’m not a vixen, and I didn’t seduce Fu Tingyue.”
He and Fu Tingyue were best friends who grew up together and faced death together; it wasn’t like what she was saying at all.
Madam Fu clearly hadn’t expected Chen Yanzhi to be right there. She fell silent for a long moment.
Chen Yanzhi leaned naturally against Fu Tingyue and said brightly into the phone, “I’m the one who beat up Fu Baiyu. He trespassed into someone else’s home and then had the nerve to tell me to ‘follow him.’ I just told him he looked a bit inadequate and would be better off lying down for someone else. Then he tried to hit me, so of course I had to defend myself. Don’t you agree, Auntie?”
Fu Tingyue looked at his clever, spirited expression, a deep smile rising in his eyes.
Chen Yanzhi winked playfully at Fu Tingyue and continued to twist the knife in the Fu family’s hearts: “Auntie, if you ask me, instead of favoring that useless waste of a younger son, you’d be better off treating our Fu Tingyue well. He’s a Top Alpha, far more useful than your failure of a son. Don’t you think?”
“You!
“I’m doing great, and Fu Tingyue is doing great too. If Fu Baiyu comes back, I’ll hit him again. Please tell him for me, Auntie, that I’ll help him find a well-endowed Alpha. Tell him to wash himself thoroughly first.”
Click—
The call was disconnected. Chen Yanzhi looked up at Fu Tingyue without a trace of worry. “Do you think she’ll die of anger?”
Fu Tingyue curled his fingers, resisting the urge to flick Chen Yanzhi’s nose. His tone was incredibly doting. “Then we’ll have to go over tomorrow and kowtow to show our filial piety.”
Chen Yanzhi laughed at his deadpan humor. “I’ve noticed that even though you aren’t as good at cursing as I am, your tongue is quite poisonous.”
Fu Tingyue tossed the phone onto the table and looked tenderly into Chen Yanzhi’s sparkling eyes. “I’ve spent too much time with you; it’s rubbing off on me.”
Chen Yanzhi waved him off and sat on the sofa with his legs crossed. “Don’t pin this on me. This is just your true nature coming out.”
Fu Tingyue only smiled, his gaze scanning Chen Yanzhi from head to toe without any aggression. Since the weather was hot, Chen Yanzhi was wearing short pajamas, leaving his pale, slender legs completely exposed. Because his skin was so fair, his knees were a soft pink.
Noticing the gaze, Chen Yanzhi didn’t feel awkward at all. Instead, he boldly spread his legs to give Fu Tingyue a better look. “Look good?”
Fu Tingyue withdrew his gaze, his tone cool. “They’re okay.”
“Tsk, you’re picky about these legs? I think they’re perfect. Straight, white, and no hair. You won’t find another pair this beautiful even if you searched with a lantern.” Chen Yanzhi reached out and stroked his own thigh; the skin felt incredibly smooth. He gave it a light pat, leaving a faint red mark, and invited Fu Tingyue: “They feel great, too. Don’t believe me? Feel for yourself.”
Fu Tingyue’s breathing became noticeably ragged. He closed his eyes for a moment to steady himself, his voice muffled. “Chen Yanzhi… and you still say you’re not seducing me?”
Chen Yanzhi rolled his eyes, resting his legs on the coffee table and swinging them lazily. “How is this seduction? At most, I’m just sharing something good with my best bro. This world is amazing; how can a guy’s legs look like this? And my waist too, it’s so thin. My butt’s even a bit perky.”
Compared to Lin Xubai, however, he was still far off. Lin Xubai was truly beautiful, more so than many girls Chen Yanzhi had seen before.
Fu Tingyue turned around, grabbed his phone, and headed for the door, his back looking a bit flustered. “I’m going to shower. Get some rest early.”
Chen Yanzhi leaned back on the sofa and called out to his retreating figure, “Who can sleep this early? Come over and play games with me after your shower.”
Fu Tingyue paused and responded in a low voice, “I know.”
Left alone in the room, Chen Yanzhi sat in a daze for a while. Just then, Lin Xubai messaged him. Chen Yanzhi eagerly picked up his phone to chat and invited him to play games together later.
Fu Tingyue had thought it would be just a sweet duo session with Chen Yanzhi, but to his surprise, Lin Xubai was there too.
The games in this world were quite different from their original one. Chen Yanzhi was a natural; he had mastered it in just two days and played exceptionally well. To keep up with him, Fu Tingyue had been secretly practicing for days—he had even been caught by his assistant playing in his office.
Lin Xubai was a total gaming novice. Chen Yanzhi patiently protected him and explained all the equipment, leaving Fu Tingyue feeling like a neglected old man.
A gunshot rang out, and Fu Tingyue’s character fell to the ground. Chen Yanzhi didn’t even have time to revive him.
“How did you die so suddenly?”
Fu Tingyue knit his brows and put down his phone, looking frustrated. “Sorry. This game is quite difficult. I’m not very good at it; I’m dragging you down.”
Chen Yanzhi froze. Seeing Fu Tingyue’s self-reproach, he quickly explained, “I didn’t mean it like that. I just thought you knew how to play.”
Fu Tingyue lowered his eyes, his tone sounding inexplicably aggrieved. “You two play. I’ll just watch you.”
Thinking Fu Tingyue’s pride was wounded, Chen Yanzhi immediately said to Lin Xubai, “Xiaobai, let’s stop for today. We’ll play again later.”
A flash of joy crossed Fu Tingyue’s downcast eyes. His stifled mood instantly cleared up.
As expected, I am much more important than Lin Xubai.
