After Transmigrating into a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Tool Person - Chapter 18
In the afternoon, Xie Yinian booked a car online. When it arrived in town, she, along with her parents, got in and headed to the city.
After about half an hour, the car reached the city and stopped outside the best hospital there.
Xie Yinian accompanied her parents into the hospital. After a series of examinations, they waited outside together for the results.
The doctor came out holding the test results. “The situation isn’t too serious. The tumor in the patient’s leg is small—about the size of a soybean—and it’s benign. With surgery and proper post-operative care, everything should be fine.”
Hearing this, Xie Yinian and her mother both breathed a sigh of relief. Xie Yinian asked, “Doctor, approximately how much will the surgery and hospital stay cost?”
“At least fifty thousand,” the doctor replied.
Xie Yinian quietly turned to her mother and asked, “Mom, how much have you saved?”
Her mother whispered, “We’ve been frugal over the years, about ninety thousand altogether.”
Xie Yinian’s father frowned slightly at the side.
Xie Yinian nodded and took a bank card from her bag. She handed it to her mother. “I have over ten thousand here. Take it—you can use it. It should help a little.”
Suddenly offering such a large sum—almost half their total savings—wasn’t something anyone could easily accept. Moreover, some of this money was meant for her parents’ retirement.
All she could do was give them a little help. Though she wasn’t the original owner and had no blood relation to them, she couldn’t bear to watch them struggle helplessly at a time when no one else would help.
The original daughter was gone, and all they had was themselves.
Her mother saw the card and immediately waved her hand. “I can’t take this. Keep it for yourself. I still have savings. You don’t need to use your money.”
“Mom, just take it. This is the only way I can help you both,” Xie Yinian said helplessly.
Her mother’s eyes reddened. Her daughter had truly grown up—becoming sensible and mature.
Xie Yinian pressed the card into her mother’s hand. “Here, the PIN is ******.”
Her mother nodded.
Over the next few days, Xie Yinian was busy at the hospital—accompanying her father for checkups, handling his admission, and staying with him as he received IV treatment. When the doctor finally said surgery could be scheduled, she accompanied her mother to take her father to the operating room.
When they came out, her father was still unconscious; the anesthesia hadn’t worn off.
That night, when he woke in pain, Xie Yinian, keeping vigil by his bedside, quickly called the doctor for pain medication.
Later, her mother took over the night shift.
This routine continued until her father’s health improved. Looking at the time, Xie Yinian decided it was about time to leave.
Her mother was inside packing her things. “Why not stay a little longer before leaving?”
“I’ve been here a week already and I’m getting restless. Besides, Dad’s recovery is going well. Another two weeks in the hospital and he can go home. I’ll come back to visit then,” Xie Yinian replied with a smile, taking the suitcase her mother handed her.
“These are some local specialties we grew ourselves. Take them with you. Remember not to stay up late, rest well, and drink plenty of water. No more soda, milk tea, or junk food, okay?”
Xie Yinian nodded. “Got it.”
“All right. Take care and have a safe trip.” Her mother patted her shoulder.
Xie Yinian wheeled her suitcase outside, turned, and waved to her mother standing in the doorway. “Bye, Mom!”
Her mother waved back. “Bye-bye.”
She got into the car. “Driver, please take me to the high-speed rail station in the city.”
The driver nodded and started the car.
As Xie Yinian rode the high-speed train, she gazed out the window. She hadn’t seen Xia Qiqi for a week and missed her. She wondered what she was doing.
Day at Da Yue Five-Star Restaurant
Xia Qiqi arrived at the restaurant in professional attire. Her father frowned at her outfit. “Why are you dressed like that?”
Xia Qiqi ignored him and sat at a table a little farther from her parents.
“Qiqi, why sit so far away? People might think we don’t know each other. Come, sit here,” her mother said, patting the seat beside her.
Xia Qiqi didn’t respond.
Her mother felt frustrated at being ignored.
Her father, accustomed to his daughter’s temper, let it go.
A waiter came in with wine and began pouring. When the glass was half full, her father signaled him to stop. He held the glass, gently swirling the wine, glancing at the time—they were almost here.
Xia Qiqi looked up at her father, who sat nearby with a calm expression, squinting slightly, unsure of his intentions.
“Qiqi, the guests will be here soon. Remember to behave and don’t oppose us all the time. You know we’re doing this for your own good,” her mother said softly.
Xia Qiqi, used to her mother’s façade of being the perfect wife and mother, knew that “for your own good” was just an excuse to manipulate her. They had always been selfish.
“‘For my own good’? Isn’t it for yourself?” she asked coldly.
Her mother pouted. “Child, how can you talk like that?”
Xia Qiqi remained silent.
Footsteps sounded outside the door.
In sight was a well-dressed woman who looked to be in her forties and a portly man, with a handsome, elegant young man standing beside them—none other than Lin Chen, the person Xia Qiqi had encountered yesterday.
“Mrs. Lin, hello,” Xia’s mother greeted warmly as she stepped forward.
Mrs. Lin touched her earrings and nodded slightly, acknowledging Xia’s mother.
Xia’s father also stood, extending his hand. “Mr. Lin, Mrs. Lin, please, have a seat. The dishes should be ready shortly.”
Once everyone had settled, the waiter brought in the food.
After the table was filled with dishes, Mrs. Lin turned to Xia Qiqi across from her and asked, “You must be Miss Xia?”
“Yes, Qiqi, go ahead and greet Mrs. Lin,” Xia’s father prompted.
Xia Qiqi remained expressionless, silent.
Xia’s mother frowned. “Qiqi.”
Xia’s father smiled apologetically. “Sorry, our daughter is like this. Please don’t mind her.”
Mr. Lin chuckled. “It’s fine. Miss Xia is just as beautiful as in the photos, and she seems quite compatible with our little Chen.”
“It would be my daughter’s fortune to be a match for your son,” Xia’s father said graciously.
The Lin family had a vast business empire and had dealings with elites across the country, which made Xia’s parents eager to establish a connection.
“Oh, you flatter us,” Mr. Lin replied with a smile.
Xia’s father noticed Lin Chen glancing at Xia Qiqi intermittently and smirked. Looks like the fish has bitten the bait.
Raising his glass, Xia’s father stood. “Mr. Lin, Lin Chen, a toast to you!”
Mr. Lin and Lin Chen quickly lifted their glasses and stood with him.
Clinking glasses together, they all said, “Cheers!”
Xia’s father, smiling at Lin Chen, said, “It seems Lin Chen likes our daughter quite a lot.”
Lin Chen’s face turned red instantly.
Mr. Lin looked at the two young people and deliberately encouraged them: “Chen, why don’t you sit next to Miss Xia?”
Xia’s father added, “Yes, young people have more to talk about when seated together.”
“Go ahead,” Mr. Lin urged.
Lin Chen nodded and moved to sit beside Xia Qiqi.
Once seated, he whispered, “Miss Xia, we meet again.”
Xia Qiqi merely nodded coldly.
Lin Chen, a little shy, said, “I apologize for my behavior yesterday.”
He still liked Xia Qiqi very much, but unfortunately, such a young and beautiful woman was already married.
“It’s nothing,” Xia Qiqi replied indifferently.
After some polite conversation between the fathers, Mr. Lin said, “It seems my son and your daughter are getting along well.”
Xia’s father laughed. “Yes, young people tend to get close quickly. Some even fall in love in less than a week—my neighbor’s son did, and they got married immediately. Speaking of marriage, what are your expectations for your future daughter-in-law?”
Mrs. Lin touched her bracelet. “We don’t ask for much. If Miss Xia marries my son, we hope she will resign from her current job. It seems unusual for an omega to work outside the home. Also, she should bear an alpha child to continue the Lin family line and manage household duties—cooking, laundry, and other chores. As for finances, I, as her mother-in-law, will handle that. Surely these are reasonable requests?”
Xia’s father smiled politely. “Not at all.”
Xia Qiqi, coldly, said, “I’m afraid I will disappoint Mrs. Lin’s expectations.”
Mrs. Lin paused. “What do you mean?”
“I am already married.”
Silence fell over the table.
Mrs. Lin frowned at Xia’s father. “What is the meaning of this?”
“Uh, well.” Xia’s father hadn’t expected Qiqi to openly defy him like this.
“It seems we needn’t continue this meal. Chen, let’s go,” Mr. Lin said as he stood.
Watching the Lin family leave, Xia’s father was furious. “You dare defy me?”
Xia Qiqi rose, her voice cold: “I’m leaving. Do as you wish.”
Without glancing at her angry parents, she turned and walked out of the restaurant.
