After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 84
Shi Ting said in surprise, “Didn’t you just agree?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “What I meant was, if you transfer to any class, the homeroom teacher would definitely have the class monitor show you around the campus.”
“Alright,” Shi Ting sounded somewhat disappointed, “but I’m in Class 9. Maybe we’ll meet again next time.”
Cheng Jianli: “Mm.”
Just then, the counter staff came out with two boxes of egg tarts: “Order 64, your egg tarts are ready.”
Cheng Jianli turned to take them and said, “If there’s nothing else, Jiang Muyan and I will be leaving now.”
“Wait,” Shi Ting quickly interjected, “Last time you only took my number. I still don’t have yours. Could you call me now so I can save your contact?”
Cheng Jianli hesitated.
Truthfully, she disliked giving her number to strangers. But since Shi Ting had asked directly, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse. “Alright, just a moment,” she said, handing the egg tarts to Jiang Muyan.
Jiang Muyan’s expression darkened, but she took them anyway.
After Cheng Jianli made the call, Shi Ting saw the number appear on her screen and finally smiled. “Thanks! See you tomorrow then.”
Cheng Jianli frowned slightly and gave a small nod. “Mm.”
As Shi Ting left the dessert shop, Cheng Jianli exhaled in relief and prepared to return to the car with Jiang Muyan. She was about to say something when Jiang Muyan suddenly blurted out, voice full of grievance, “Teacher Cheng, how could you do this?”
Cheng Jianli: “? What did I do?”
Jiang Muyan ignored her and ran out of the shop, visibly upset. When Uncle Liu saw Jiang Muyan get into the car, he asked, “Miss, did you get the egg tarts?”
Jiang Muyan didn’t answer, sulking silently in the backseat.
Cheng Jianli got in as well. Noticing the tense atmosphere, Uncle Liu assumed they’d had an argument and chose to remain quiet, lowering the partition between the front and back seats.
After ten minutes of driving, sensing Jiang Muyan’s gloom, Cheng Jianli asked, “Want some egg tarts?”
Jiang Muyan did want them, but she was still fuming. Cheng Jianli forbade her from accepting anything from others, yet she’d willingly given her number to someone else right in front of her!
Jiang Muyan said petulantly, “I don’t want any.”
Cheng Jianli pressed, “Really?”
“No.”
Cheng Jianli moved closer. “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Muyan couldn’t hold back. “Teacher Cheng, why did you give her your number?”
Cheng Jianli was taken aback, not expecting this to be the reason for Jiang Muyan’s displeasure. She’d only reciprocated because Shi Ting had given her number first, it would’ve been awkward to refuse.
“Are you angry?” Cheng Jianli asked.
“Yes!” Jiang Muyan exclaimed. “You promised you’d stay away from her.”
Her expression was serious, just like that time in the car. Wondering if Jiang Muyan was jealous, Cheng Jianli teased, “When did I promise that?”
“The day we flew kites,” Jiang Muyan said.
That was over two weeks ago. Cheng Jianli countered, “Then have you thought about what I asked you to consider?”
About the nature of their relationship.
Jiang Muyan admitted honestly, “Not yet.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
She sighed almost imperceptibly.
Jiang Muyan said urgently, “That matter isn’t the point right now! The point is you gave her your contact information.”
Cheng Jianli interrupted her, “That matter is very important to me.”
Jiang Muyan retorted indignantly, “But I’m angry now! And she even asked you to show her around campus, why should you do it? You’re so busy, barely having enough time to tutor me every day!”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Which is why I didn’t agree.”
Jiang Muyan seized the loophole in her words, “So if you weren’t tutoring me, would you have agreed?”
Cheng Jianli said, “No, I think it would be a waste of time.”
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan’s mood improved slightly. She said stiffly, “Ignore her, Teacher Cheng. She’s an alpha!”
Cheng Jianli responded, “You’re an alpha too, and I still interact with you.”
Jiang Muyan insisted, “I’m different from her.”
Cheng Jianli said seriously, “Because you seem a little dumber than her?”
“???” Jiang Muyan was even more hurt upon hearing Cheng Jianli call her dumb. She immediately lowered the partition between the front and back seats. “Uncle Liu, stop the car right now!”
Uncle Liu looked surprised. “What’s wrong, Miss?”
Jiang Muyan, heartbroken, declared, “I want to get out!”
Uncle Liu had no choice but to pull over. However, after the car stopped, no one spoke, and no one got out. Jiang Muyan stole a glance at Cheng Jianli, who was frowning at her. Feeling rebellious, Jiang Muyan blurted, “I’m getting out now!”
Uncle Liu asked, “Miss, where are you going?”
Jiang Muyan didn’t actually know, she had only said it for Cheng Jianli’s benefit. But Cheng Jianli looked completely calm, as if certain she wouldn’t leave.
Furious, Jiang Muyan pushed the car door open. “I’m leaving!”
Uncle Liu called out anxiously, “Miss! Where are you going?”
Jiang Muyan jumped out and hailed a taxi, vanishing in the blink of an eye the whole ordeal took less than two minutes.
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Uncle Liu: “…”
Uncle Liu, unsure what to do, asked, “Teacher Cheng, what did you say to the Miss just now?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “She got upset because I called her dumb.”
Uncle Liu said, “The Miss isn’t usually that petty. Was there something else?”
After a brief silence, Cheng Jianli admitted, “Yes.”
Uncle Liu asked, “Is it a private matter between you and the Miss?”
“Something like that,” Cheng Jianli said, feeling a little lost after Jiang Muyan’s departure. “Uncle Liu, I’d like to resolve it with her myself.”
“Alright,” Uncle Liu reassured her. “The Miss won’t stay mad at you for real. I just don’t know where she’s run off to now.”
Jiang Muyan sat in the taxi, staring at her phone, waiting for Cheng Jianli to call her.
She had acted impulsively, and now she had nowhere to go. If she checked into a hotel, Uncle Liu would find out. If she went to Xu Yinghe or Luo Jiajia’s place, he’d probably guess that too.
After some thought, Jiang Muyan decided to go to Cheng Jianli’s house.
That way, Uncle Liu wouldn’t be able to find her.
She had a spare key to Cheng Jianli’s place, the plants needed regular watering, and the floors needed cleaning, so for convenience, Cheng Jianli had given her a key, telling her she could come anytime.
By now, it was almost dark, and the autumn evening wind carried a chill. Jiang Muyan took the taxi to Cheng Jianli’s home and let herself in.
A pair of fluffy slippers greeted her at the entrance, the ones she’d bought at the supermarket.
Identical black bear designs adorned both.
Jiang Muyan changed her shoes, watered the plants at home, and wiped down the table before Cheng Jianli finally called.
Jiang Muyan deliberately waited a dozen seconds before answering, putting on an annoyed tone: “Hello?”
Cheng Jianli’s calm voice came through the receiver: “Are you coming back or not?”
???
Asking if she was coming back didn’t she realize Jiang Muyan was angry?!
Jiang stubbornly retorted, “I’m not coming back.”
Cheng Jianli said, “It’s already ten. Which hotel are you at? I’ll come get you.”
Jiang Muyan grumbled, “I’m not at a hotel.”
“Then where are you? Have you eaten?”
At the mention of food, Jiang Muyan suddenly remembered she hadn’t had dinner. “No,” she admitted.
Cheng Jianli’s voice remained steady. “Then come back.”
“I won’t, because I’m mad.”
“Is this about Shi Ting?”
“Exactly!”
“Why? Because I gave her my contact info?” Cheng Jianli paused, then added, “Or something else?”
Without hesitation, Jiang Muyan blurted, “Because she’s an alpha. I’m worried she might hurt you.”
“And besides that?”
“Besides that, I don’t like how you smiled at her,” Jiang Muyan said. “Xiao Cheng, why were you so gentle with her at the egg tart shop?”
Cheng Jianli: “…Was I?”
“You totally were!”
“I didn’t notice,” Cheng Jianli said seriously. “Honestly, she’s practically a stranger to me. Running into her today was just a coincidence.”
Hearing Cheng Jianli’s earnest explanation, Jiang Muyan suddenly felt a little unreasonable. Cheng Jianli had always been solitary, her demeanor cool and detached. Deep down, Jiang Muyan actually wished she’d open up more and make friends.
But now that someone had approached her, Jiang Muyan was the one sulking.
She fell silent, unwilling to waste this rare moment of Cheng Jianli reaching out first.
After a quiet pause, Cheng Jianli asked softly, “Do you want me to pick you up?”
Jiang Muyan mumbled, “Then come get me.”
“Where are you?”
“Your place.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
No wonder Uncle Liu couldn’t find her, she’d gone straight to her apartment.
“Wait for me,” Cheng Jianli said before hanging up.
Jiang Muyan flopped onto Cheng Jianli’s bed the same one she’d once punched a hole in, prompting her to have Uncle Liu buy a replacement.
A single bed with light checkered sheets, forest-green duvet and pillowcases, carrying the faint scent of nature.
She took off her coat, burrowed under Cheng Jianli’s blanket, and dozed off.
When Cheng Jianli stepped out, Uncle Liu handed her a thick coat. “Xiao Cheng, are you going to bring the young miss back?”
“Yes. She’s at my place.”
“Need a ride?”
“No, I’ll go myself.”
She carried a stylish tote bag containing a thermal lunchbox tonight’s dinner of rice, lamb ribs, mashed potatoes, cheese-baked sweet potatoes, blueberry yam, and savory beef soup.
Jiang Muyan hadn’t eaten. She’d bring it to her.
Uncle Liu smiled and said, “Sorry to trouble you, Teacher Cheng.”
Cheng Jianli replied, “It’s no problem. If it gets too late, I’ll just have Jiang Muyan stay at my place. Don’t worry.”
As soon as she stepped out of the villa, a cold wind rushed toward her.
The night was still chilly. Cheng Jianli hailed a cab and headed home.
About twenty minutes later, she arrived at the familiar narrow alley. The houses here were old, their red paint washed away by rain, yet they carried a lingering sense of lived-in warmth.
Cheng Jianli walked in slowly. Just as she reached the second floor, a powerful wave of pheromones suddenly swept down, saturating the air.
Under the bright white light of the staircase, the cold, intoxicating scent of roses surged like crashing waves. The short trees by the entrance rustled in the wind as Cheng Jianli frowned deeply and hurried up the stairs.
This was Jiang Muyan’s pheromone.
She knew it all too well.
She quickly unlocked the door. The small living room was already thick with the scent of roses. Cheng Jianli immediately pulled a suppressant spray from her pocket and spritzed it into the air to neutralize the overwhelming pheromones.
Could Jiang Muyan be entering her first rut?
The thought struck Cheng Jianli as she strode toward the bedroom. She pushed the door open and saw Jiang Muyan clutching her pillow, tossing and turning restlessly on the bed.
When an alpha entered rut, they would desperately crave their omega sometimes even gathering the omega’s belongings around them, a behavior akin to “nesting.”
Jiang Muyan was wrapped in Cheng Jianli’s blanket, hugging her pillow tightly, her face flushed with discomfort.
Cheng Jianli approached. “Jiang Muyan?”
Hearing her voice, Jiang Muyan opened her eyes groggily. “T-Teacher Cheng?”
“You’re in rut,” Cheng Jianli confirmed immediately. She took off her coat and peeled off her own pheromone-blocking patch. “Do you need suppressants, or” She paused. “Do you need me?”
