After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 65
Upon hearing this, the sports committee member quickly said, “I have some bruise ointment. Do you need it?”
Cheng Jianli shook her head with a smile. “It’s just a little stumble. No need.”
“It’s no trouble. I’ll have someone bring it to you later,” the sports committee member replied. “Anyway, you both worked hard today. Our class managed to place in events no one even signed up for. Make sure to rest well at noon.”
Jiang Muyan nodded and casually added some food to Cheng Jianli’s plate.
The afternoon would feature the mixed 4×100 relay, so she needed to conserve some energy.
After lunch, everyone headed back to the sports field.
Xu Yinghe and Luo Jiajia had also finished eating. Luo Jiajia patted Xu Yinghe’s hand. “Good luck in the relay this afternoon.”
The towering trees at the back field were lush, allowing only scattered beams of sunlight to filter through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground, a beautiful sight.
Xu Yinghe’s almond-shaped eyes widened slightly, her delicate features thoughtful. “Why aren’t you joining the relay?”
Luo Jiajia made a troubled face. “Running is exhausting, and I’m too short, I can’t keep up.”
Xu Yinghe let out an “Oh,” then asked, “Is Class 2 in first place now?”
Luo Jiajia nodded. “Yeah. Jiang Muyan won the 800-meter race, adding 15 points to Class 2’s score.”
Xu Yinghe nodded thoughtfully before reminding Luo Jiajia, “You have my bib number. Don’t forget to give it to me before the race.”
“No problem,” Luo Jiajia assured her.
The two chatted and laughed as they walked. However, just half an hour before the race, Luo Jiajia suddenly couldn’t find Xu Yinghe’s bib.
She frantically rummaged through her bag. “I swear I put it here. Where did it go?”
“It’s fine, take your time,” Xu Yinghe said, gazing up at the white clouds. “If you can’t find it, I just won’t compete. No bib, no entry.”
Luo Jiajia refused to accept that and insisted Xu Yinghe had to race. She dashed back to the school building to search only to run into You Xia, who was just leaving.
You Xia had also finished lunch. She hadn’t eaten in the school cafeteria, opting instead for the bento her mother had prepared.
Seeing Luo Jiajia’s frantic expression, she tentatively called out, “Are you looking for Xu Yinghe’s bib?”
Luo Jiajia froze, then nodded eagerly.
You Xia said, “I found it by the stairs earlier.” She then pulled a neatly folded blue bib from her pocket, its black marker displaying a number and Xu Yinghe’s name. “She must’ve dropped it by accident.”
The bib was numbered 39.
Luo Jiajia gasped in relief. “Yes, yes! That’s the one! You’re a lifesaver!”
You Xia’s voice was soft. “I just happened to find it when I came back for lunch. It’s nothing.”
But Luo Jiajia was still grateful. “I almost cost Xu Yinghe her spot in the race. Thank you so much!” She then asked, “Wait, I think I’ve seen you before. What’s your name again?”
“You Xia,” she answered immediately, though she hesitated before adding quietly, “But there’s no need to tell Xu Yinghe.”
“Nonsense! She’d want to thank you too,” Luo Jiajia said cheerfully. “You’re so sweet-looking, she’d definitely remember you.”
You Xia seemed taken aback by the compliment, a faint blush coloring her gentle, timid face. Unused to such praise, she stumbled over her words. “Y-You too. You’re also very sweet.”
“I’m not as well-behaved as you, I’m really noisy. Xu Yinghe gets so annoyed with me every day,” Luo Jiajia said. “Are you going to watch the competition? Let’s go together.”
You Xia waved her hand: “No need, just give her the bib number.”
Luo Jiajia glanced at her watch there were still twenty minutes before the race started and suddenly said, “Wait, are you the girl who’s been watching Xu Yinghe train at the track field these past few days?”
You Xia’s face remained flushed, standing out starkly against her pale complexion: “Mm… I’ve watched a few times.”
“So it really is you! You blush so easily.” Luo Jiajia found this girl fascinating just a few words and she turned red.
This girl must like Xu Yinghe.
Luo Jiajia’s words made You Xia’s face grow even redder.
“Do you have feelings for Xu Yinghe?” Luo Jiajia blinked and continued, “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
You Xia nervously twisted her fingers together, but her response didn’t answer Luo Jiajia’s question: “Do you have feelings for her too?”
“Of course not,” Luo Jiajia saw through the girl’s thoughts and kindly warned, “But Xu Yinghe isn’t easy to pursue, she can be brutally blunt when she speaks.”
You Xia gave a bitter smile upon hearing this: “I know.”
With the bib number matter settled, over ten minutes later, the participants for the mixed-gender relay took to the field.
Jiang Muyan ran over, and Class 2 erupted in cheers: “Go, Young Miss!”
“Leave it to me!” Jiang Muyan smiled at the crowd while spotting Cheng Jianli waiting for her at the finish line.
I have to win first place.
This was the thought repeating in Jiang Muyan’s mind.
Truthfully, it was obvious whether in explosive power or endurance, Jiang Muyan was exceptionally strong. Running 100 meters was no problem for her.
With a sharp whistle, the most exciting event of the sports meet finally began, and the entire venue buzzed with excitement.
Class 2 had already pulled ahead by the third baton pass. When the baton reached Jiang Muyan’s hands, she didn’t hesitate for a second before sprinting forward.
The field was alive with cheers as everyone desperately rooted for their class. Standing at the finish line, Cheng Jianli watched from afar as Jiang Muyan raced toward her like the wind, the bib number fluttering behind her, her expression filled with unwavering determination.
The sun remained scorching, the clean rubber track exuding the scent of youth. Every tree around rustled softly, their whispers blending with the students’ shouts into an unending chorus.
Time ticked by, each second filled with unbearable tension and exhilaration.
Jiang Muyan sprinted toward the finish line, her limbs icy from adrenaline while her heart pounded wildly.
Her wife was waiting for her at the finish line!
Gritting her teeth, Jiang Muyan felt her spirits soar.
Finally, amid the announcer’s excited voice and the crisp sound of the whistle, Jiang Muyan crossed the finish line first!
The entire venue erupted.
“Class 2 takes first!!!”
“We won, ahhhhhh!!!”
“Our class is amazing!”
“Young Miss is incredible! Class 2 is the best!”
Students embraced each other in excitement. At the finish line, Jiang Muyan gasped for breath as Cheng Jianli walked over and handed her a towel.
Truthfully, Cheng Jianli had been watching Jiang Muyan intently the whole time. Though 100 meters wasn’t long, her heart had been pounding just as fiercely.
Jiang Muyan looked up and immediately saw Cheng Jianli. Overjoyed, she exclaimed, “Teacher Cheng, you came!”
Cheng Jianli smiled faintly: “Mm.”
“I promised I’d wait here for you, and here I am,” Cheng Jianli steadied her. “How are you feeling?”
“Just a 100-meter dash, no big deal,” Jiang Muyan wiped the sweat from her forehead with a bright smile. “We came in first!”
Cheng Jianli said, “The homeroom teacher will be thrilled.”
“Of course! Winning the relay was a team effort,” Jiang Muyan replied. “If the others hadn’t run so fast, I couldn’t have done it alone.”
Cheng Jianli chuckled.
Jiang Muyan grinned along, but suddenly her expression changed as she reached for the back of her neck. “Ow, that hurts.”
“What’s wrong?” Cheng Jianli frowned.
“Just now, when I was talking to you, my neck suddenly started aching,” Jiang Muyan rubbed the spot. “Did I pull a muscle again?”
Cheng Jianli stepped closer to examine it. Jiang Muyan’s nape was framed by short black hair, smooth and unmarked.
“Looks fine,” Cheng Jianli said. “Has it been hurting for long?”
“Just the past few days,” Jiang Muyan muttered, her excitement over the victory fading as the pain took over. “It was a little itchy before, but now it really stings.”
“If it’s not differentiation-related, it’s probably nothing serious,” Cheng Jianli reassured her. “Try a warm compress when you get back.”
Jiang Muyan gave a small nod before their homeroom teacher called out to announce that Class 2 had taken first place overall in the sports meet, earning them the championship trophy. The class erupted in cheers, already planning a celebration for the evening.
Students took commemorative photos in the stands while teachers packed up equipment. The event had showcased teamwork and unity, something rare and precious for everyone.
…
Soon, the day came to an end.
Evening settled in, painting the distant sky in vibrant shades of orange and red.
As their classmates dispersed from the field, Jiang Muyan clutched her race bib excitedly. “I’m keeping this as a memento!”
“Why?” Cheng Jianli asked.
“Because it’s my birthday number,” Jiang Muyan beamed. “I feel really lucky today.”
Cheng Jianli nodded. “Fair enough. You should keep it.”
Jiang Muyan turned to her, eyes sparkling. “Teacher Cheng, was I amazing today?”
A faint smile tugged at Cheng Jianli’s lips. “You were.”
Two first-place finishes and a third, of course she was.
Jiang Muyan glowed with pride at the praise, riding the high well into the night.
By the time they reached the bustling night market for dinner, she was already clamoring for drinks.
The market was alive with energy, thick with the scent of grilled food and boisterous laughter. People in casual tees and loose shorts gathered around tables, drinking and feasting. Some even took to the makeshift stage for impromptu performances.
Tang Yu pushed a glass away. “Hey, if you’re drinking, you can’t leave your class rep out of it.”
“You mean Teacher Cheng?” Jiang Muyan shook her head firmly. “No way. She doesn’t drink.”
Cheng Jianli sat quietly beside her, clearly out of her element. While the others celebrated, she sipped water, occasionally nudging Jiang Muyan to slow down.
She spoke little, her gaze lingering on Jiang Muyan most of the time.
“Then let’s play a drinking game and get the class rep to join,” the sports committee member, who was already quite drunk, suggested enthusiastically. “If the class rep loses, Jiang Muyan will drink for her.”
Luo Jiajia, never one to miss out on stirring up trouble, chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, that sounds perfect!”
Rong Rong added, “We agree!”
“Agreed, agreed!”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
To be honest, with Class 2 winning first place in the sports meet and celebrating with Class 1, Cheng Jianli didn’t want to ruin the fun.
But she really couldn’t handle alcohol.
She could only whisper to Jiang Muyan, “Can you handle it?”
Jiang Muyan: “? Teacher Cheng, you’re actually doubting me?” she protested indignantly. “Of course I can handle it!”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Alright, she was clearly already drunk. All Cheng Jianli could hope for now was to lose fewer rounds so Jiang Muyan wouldn’t have to drink even more.
