After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 54
Uncle Liu sat on the sofa working on his laptop, frowning as he received the documents Jiang Huai had sent over. Jiang Huai mentioned there were issues with the company’s contract that needed urgent revisions.
He forwarded them to his subordinates to check for any discrepancies.
Meanwhile, Jiang Muyan was at the dining table working on her math test papers. Cheng Jianli had told her she couldn’t eat hot pot until she finished, so she was dragging her feet.
Strangely enough, just two months ago, she couldn’t solve anything. But after Cheng Jianli tutored her for a while, it was as if her meridians had been unblocked, she could now handle basic problems and even tackle some advanced questions.
Cheng Jianli’s strategy of focusing on mistakes and relentless practice had paid off. Jiang Muyan’s science and math error notebooks were already half-filled.
Outside, the rain continued to drizzle, a cool autumn breeze enveloping the alley, dampening the brick walls and the green leaves of weeds, blending the earthy scent with a fresh crispness.
The hot pot ingredients wouldn’t arrive for another hour. The only sounds in the room were the scratching of pens and the steady clatter of keyboard keys.
Uncle Liu’s frown deepened until he finally stood up. “Young Miss, I need to return to the company.”
Jiang Muyan looked up from her math papers, puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
Uncle Liu wore an anxious expression. “There’s an issue with the chairman’s contract. I have to go help him sort it out immediately.”
Jiang Muyan asked worriedly, “It’s nothing serious, right?”
“Not serious, but the other party needs the contract by this afternoon, so the chairman is in a hurry,” he said, grabbing his expensive suit jacket from the sofa. “Young Miss, I’ll head back first. I’ll come pick you and Teacher Cheng later. If I don’t have time, I’ll arrange for a driver.”
Jiang Muyan nodded. “Uncle Liu, it’s still raining outside. Be careful on the road.”
“It’s fine. The chairman’s contract takes priority,” Uncle Liu replied.
With that, he quickly grabbed the black umbrella from the shoe rack and left. The door creaked shut, and the room fell silent again.
Cheng Jianli emerged from her room with an English dictionary. Noticing Uncle Liu was gone, she asked, “Where did Uncle Liu go?”
Jiang Muyan said, “Something urgent came up with my dad, so he went back to the company.”
Cheng Jianli glanced out the window. “It’s still pouring. Did he take an umbrella?”
“He did,” Jiang Muyan said. “Too bad he won’t be joining us for hot pot. I ordered so much.”
Cheng Jianli remarked, “Your father must be really pressed for time to call him back. Your family must trust Uncle Liu a lot.”
“Of course,” Jiang Muyan said. “And Uncle Liu treats me really well, so my parents feel at ease leaving me in his care.”
“Mm,” Cheng Jianli nodded slightly and walked over. “How far have you gotten with your test papers?”
Jiang Muyan beamed. “I’m almost done with the math one!”
Cheng Jianli said, “Let me see.” She stood beside Jiang Muyan, quietly reviewing her work and answers.
Cheng Jianli’s home was small and modest, without even a proper desk, forcing them to study at the dining table. Yet Jiang Muyan didn’t mind at all, she even wanted to pull up a chair so Cheng Jianli could sit beside her.
“Not bad, you got the function problem right today.” Cheng Jianli had tied her hair up with a black elastic band, slightly loose, with some messy strands framing her forehead, giving her a soft, adorable look.
Jiang Muyan wriggled beside her. “Hehe, how many did I get right?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “I’d say around 120. That’s pretty good.”
Jiang Muyan said proudly, “For me, that’s already overachieving!”
Cheng Jianli: “Mhm.”
Jiang Muyan then asked, “What’s your usual math score, Teacher Cheng?”
Cheng Jianli answered calmly, “Around 145.”
Jiang Muyan stared at her in shock, her pen slipping from her hand. “How do you score so high?!”
Cheng Jianli said, “It’s hard to get into C University without that kind of math score.”
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan immediately declared, “Then I’ll study hard too! I want to go to the same university as you!”
A rare smile appeared on Cheng Jianli’s face. “Mhm, so you need to study harder. If you were a bit more careful, you might’ve scored 130 on this mock test.”
The praise made Jiang Muyan a little proud. She scratched her head. “You’re making me so excited. When’s the midterm? I want to test my math skills.”
“Probably in a little over a month,” Cheng Jianli said. “But doing the mock tests I give you is just as good. If you can consistently score 125, that’s fine.”
Jiang Muyan nodded eagerly. “Got it, Teacher Cheng.”
Cheng Jianli asked gently, “Want some water? I’ll get you some.”
Jiang Muyan shook her head. “No, I suddenly feel like studying. Studying fills me with energy so much power!”
Cheng Jianli stood up and walked to the sofa. “You’ve been studying for a while. You can take a break. Besides, the takeout should be here soon, right?”
Jiang Muyan suddenly remembered and followed her. “Oh yeah, our hotpot delivery! I ordered shrimp paste!”
Cheng Jianli asked, “Is shrimp paste good?”
“It’s delicious! Teacher Cheng, you’ve never had it?” Jiang Muyan sat down beside her.
Cheng Jianli carried a faint, fresh scent after her shower. The scent-blocking patch on the back of her neck had been removed, and now the mango-like pheromones were slightly stronger. Jiang Muyan could smell it just by leaning in.
Cheng Jianli replied, “No, I usually eat at the school cafeteria or cook at home. It’s cheaper that way.”
Her first year of high school had been her toughest time. She had come to this city alone, and frugality was a necessity. It wasn’t until she started tutoring in the second semester that her life became a little easier.
But Cheng Jianli had never shaken her habit of saving money avoiding spending whenever possible.
The exception was when she bought clothes for Jiang Muyan.
She had always wanted to find a way to thank her.
Jiang Muyan never looked down on Cheng Jianli for being poor. Instead, she often worried about her. “No wonder you’re so thin. Do you skip meals when you cook for yourself?”
Cheng Jianli said, “Sometimes I get too absorbed in solving problems and forget.”
Jiang Muyan said, “Well, you can’t skip meals when you’re at my place.”
Cheng Jianli nodded softly. “Okay.”
Jiang Muyan’s bright, pure personality made everyone around her feel at ease, forgetting all their troubles.
The hot pot ingredients arrived quickly. The spicy broth bubbled vigorously, and a generous drizzle of chili oil instantly made the entire pot seem alive with heat. Beside it, the mushroom broth was milder. Jiang Muyan scooped some scallions and sesame sauce for Cheng Jianli, adding a bit of oyster sauce for extra umami richness.
Jiang Muyan said, “Teacher Cheng, this broth is made with chicken stock, it’s really flavorful.”
Cheng Jianli placed her coat on the sofa. “Then you should eat more.”
Jiang Muyan hesitated slightly. “But won’t your place end up smelling like hot pot?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “It’s fine. We’ll air it out after the rain stops.”
The two ate together, dipping frozen tofu, tripe, fresh beef, and shrimp paste into the spicy broth, while spinach, sweet potatoes, and glass noodles simmered in the mushroom pot. Cheng Jianli frowned. “There’s so much. Can we finish all this?”
Jiang Muyan grinned. “I think so. I’ve got a pretty big appetite.”
Cheng Jianli suggested, “Should we call Uncle Liu and ask if he’s coming back for dinner? We can set some aside for him.”
Jiang Muyan shook her head. “He texted me to tell us to go ahead and eat. Don’t worry, Teacher Cheng.”
Reassured, Cheng Jianli continued eating. Jiang Muyan kept serving her vegetables and beef, the steam from the hot pot enveloping them in warmth. It had been a long time since Cheng Jianli had felt such a cozy atmosphere, and she gradually relaxed.
Suddenly, Jiang Muyan perked up. “Oh, right! Tang Yu mentioned the other day that our school’s sports day is coming up?”
Cheng Jianli nodded. “Yes, it’s before midterms.”
Jiang Muyan sighed. “Tang Yu insisted on signing me up for the 800-meter run and some fun event.”
Cheng Jianli raised an eyebrow. “We’re in Class 2. Class 1 shouldn’t have any say over us.”
Jiang Muyan groaned. “But Tang Yu’s in charge of the event. You have no idea how much the gym teacher loves him, he handed him the entire participant list to review.”
In Cheng Jianli’s memory, Tang Yu was tall, outgoing, always flashing a bright smile, and loved soccer and basketball, a helpful guy all around. Plus, he’d been a huge help during the “cheating” incident, something Cheng Jianli was still grateful for.
Cheng Jianli shrugged. “Then just participate.”
Jiang Muyan grinned. “Teacher Cheng, why don’t you sign up for something too?”
Cheng Jianli shook her head. “I’m not good at sports. I’m terrible at running.”
Jiang Muyan nudged her. “You could do a fun event! It’ll probably start in a few days.”
Cheng Jianli smirked. “You want me to join?”
Jiang Muyan scratched her head, chuckling sheepishly as she stood to pour Cheng Jianli some water. “I just don’t want you studying all the time.”
It was great that her wife loved studying, but it made life a bit dull. If she could join more activities or make more friends, things might be different.
Cheng Jianli smiled, her eyes sparkling like starlight. “Oh? You want to see me in a fun event?”
Through the rising steam, Jiang Muyan was momentarily stunned by her wife’s smile. She was so beautiful when she smiled! Just seeing it always made Jiang Muyan’s heart flutter.
Swallowing hard, her hand froze mid-pour. “Yeah, I’d love to see you join…”
Before she could finish speaking, her elbow accidentally knocked over the bowl in front of Cheng Jianli, spilling the entire contents directly onto Cheng Jianli’s white T-shirt.
Jiang Muyan: “!!!”
Flustered, she quickly set down the water kettle and anxiously asked, “Are you okay, Teacher Cheng?”
Cheng Jianli’s T-shirt was ruined by the soup, but thankfully, she wasn’t scalded. She had been momentarily stunned but now responded, “I’m fine.”
Jiang Muyan worried that the hot oil from the bowl might have splashed onto Cheng Jianli. With a pained expression, she apologized, “I didn’t mean to, I was just trying to pour you some water…”
Cheng Jianli said, “It’s alright, I wasn’t burned.”
Jiang Muyan urged, “Take it off quickly! It’s covered in oil your undershirt might be stained too.”
Cheng Jianli’s T-shirt was cheap twenty yuan for three and the spicy oil had already seeped through to the camisole underneath.
Jiang Muyan reached out to lift the hem of Cheng Jianli’s shirt but was abruptly stopped when Cheng Jianli gripped her wrist. Her voice was slightly hoarse as she said, “…I’ll handle it in the bathroom. Get me a change of clothes.”
Jiang Muyan instinctively replied, “Take it off first, I’ll help you change.”
Cheng Jianli: “…?”
“It’s just a little spilled soup, no big deal,” Cheng Jianli said. “Besides, I have hands, I can manage on my own.”
This was Jiang Muyan’s first time at Cheng Jianli’s home, and not only had she hammered a black hole into the headboard, but she had also ruined Cheng Jianli’s T-shirt. She was drowning in guilt.
No way, she had to buy a new bed and clothes to make it up to Cheng Jianli as soon as she got back!!!
Jiang Muyan said timidly, “I’m so sorry, Teacher Cheng.”
Cheng Jianli replied, “It’s just a T-shirt. And didn’t you give me a dress?”
Jiang Muyan blinked blankly. “A dress?”
Cheng Jianli coughed lightly, her tone soft. “Mm. It’s a good time to change into it.”
While Jiang Muyan was still standing there dumbfounded, Cheng Jianli had already walked into the bathroom. “Hurry up and get it for me.”
Snapping out of it, Jiang Muyan immediately went to find the pale purple dress.
Before long, she located it in the suitcase.
Unfolding it, she saw that the dress was still beautiful, perfect for Cheng Jianli’s slender waist. Even she couldn’t help but admire it.
But as she stared at the soft fabric in her hands, her thoughts began to wander uncontrollably.
Jiang Muyan scratched her head.
Why did her wife suddenly want to change into this dress?
She stood there dazed for a moment before suddenly remembering Cheng Jianli’s words from that morning: “I’ll wear the dress for you to see.”
Her face instantly flushed red.
Wait, was Cheng Jianli wearing this to seduce her?
Jiang Muyan immediately grew shy, covering her face. Her wife was really something, why did she always do this…
What if Cheng Jianli asked her to help change later? What should she do?
Jiang Muyan fell into conflicted thoughts, but then another realization struck her.
Come to think of it, back in the bedroom at noon, Cheng Jianli had asked whether she could focus on studying if she wore a camisole and then she had fallen right into the trap. Cheng Jianli had said her dedication to studying wasn’t firm enough.
At this thought, Jiang Muyan had an epiphany.
Could this be another one of Cheng Jianli’s tests?
She absolutely couldn’t fall for it again!
With renewed determination, Jiang Muyan stood up decisively, her expression resolute.
No matter what, she had to maintain a pure and upright image in front of Cheng Jianli. Even if Cheng Jianli really asked her to help change clothes, she couldn’t let her eyes wander where they shouldn’t.
She wanted her wife to know she was determined to study hard and get into C University together!
A few minutes later, in the bathroom.
The bathroom was cramped and quiet, lit by a dim, yellowish old-fashioned bulb. Cheng Jianli took off her T-shirt inside, noticing faint oil stains had seeped through her tank top as well.
As expected, hot pot always splatters. Cheng Jianli sighed and was about to remove the tank top when Jiang Muyan’s voice suddenly came from outside: “Teacher Cheng, I brought your skirt.”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Mm, just leave it by the door.”
The person outside sounded slightly surprised. “Huh? You don’t want me to help you change?”
“Change the skirt?” Cheng Jianli frowned and said seriously, “You’re not thinking of coming in, are you?”
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan thought, Ah, my wife is inviting me in! This must be the first test.
So, with feigned shyness and reluctance, she loudly declared, “Fine! Then I’m coming in!”
Cheng Jianli: “?”
I never said you could come in???
The bathroom door opened and closed. Jiang Muyan stared at Cheng Jianli under the light. Even though she had already seen her in just a tank top in the bedroom, now that she was actually inside, she felt inexplicably excited again.
My wife is so beautiful!!!
Cheng Jianli’s shoulders and neck were pale and soft, her creamy skin bathed in a faint orange glow under the bulb. She frowned. “What are you doing?”
Jiang Muyan scratched her head. “Didn’t you ask me to help you change?”
Cheng Jianli: “…No, I didn’t.”
Jiang Muyan let out an “Ah” and said, “But you just told me to come in. Besides, I already helped you change once in the bedroom, it shouldn’t be a big deal, right?”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Jiang Muyan pouted. “Teacher Cheng, do you not trust me again?”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
She was starting to suspect Jiang Muyan had spilled soup on her on purpose.
Jiang Muyan’s sigh came belatedly. “Sigh, I’m so disappointed.”
Cheng Jianli rubbed her temples. “In the bedroom was one thing, but in the bathroom. Don’t you think this is weird?”
Jiang Muyan’s clear, innocent eyes looked back at her, radiating an inexplicable sense of reassurance. She said guilelessly, “Not weird. I don’t feel anything weird about it.”
Jiang Muyan had this strange ability—she could say the most shameless things with utter sincerity and pride, all while maintaining an expression of complete innocence.
Once again, Cheng Jianli couldn’t tell if Jiang Muyan was just messing with her.
She finally asked, “What do you want to do?”
Jiang Muyan blushed. “I want to help you change your skirt.”
Cheng Jianli said calmly, “I’m only wearing underwear underneath.”
Jiang Muyan nodded firmly. “I know. So I absolutely won’t look where I shouldn’t! I promise!”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
When Cheng Jianli didn’t respond, Jiang Muyan took another step forward. The tiny bathroom barely had space for two people, and the bulb overhead seemed to sway precariously. Cheng Jianli turned her face away, Jiang Muyan was slightly taller, and the way she approached made her nervous.
She whispered, “…Too close. Move back.”
Jiang Muyan continued to move closer, and Cheng Jianli’s hand against the wall instantly clenched, the tips of her ears flushing a deep crimson like a brilliant sunset glow.
The atmosphere grew increasingly heated. Just as Cheng Jianli was unsure whether she should push Jiang Muyan away, Jiang Muyan suddenly leaned in close to her ear and whispered like a devil,
“So, did I pass? My dedication to studying is pretty firm, right?”
