After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 24.1
You Xia and her mother took the bus home.
You Xia’s father had passed away from cancer at the age of thirty, leaving her mother, Tian Yizhen, to raise her alone. The two lived in a modest rented bungalow.
Though life was frugal for the mother and daughter, You Xia was sensible. Aside from her studies, she helped Tian Yizhen with household chores.
Tian Yizhen walked into the kitchen, ready to cook for her daughter first. “Xia Xia, what would you like to eat? How about scrambled eggs with tomatoes?”
You Xia sat at her small desk, beside which lay a clean paper bag. She stared at it blankly for a moment before remembering to reply, “Sure, I’ll go wash the tomatoes right away.”
Inside the bag was Xu Yinghe’s school uniform.
You Xia was a student from Class 4. After washing the uniform, she wanted to return it to Xu Yinghe and thank her in person.
But that day, Xu Yinghe had left nothing behind, no class, no name.
You Xia remembered Xu Yinghe’s face delicate and beautiful, with round almond-shaped eyes, fair skin, and a tall frame. Even the girl walking beside her was radiantly pretty.
She knew she could never approach someone like that until the day Xu Yinghe handed her the uniform.
You Xia was overwhelmed. Her grades were average, her family was poor, and everything about her was unremarkable.
No one had ever paid attention to her growing up, except for her mother. Xu Yinghe’s gesture that day had tugged at her heartstrings, as if her heart had been carried away by that uniform.
She stood up and walked out of her room. “Mom, I’ll wash the tomatoes.”
Tian Yizhen smiled. “They’re in the sink.”
As she washed the tomatoes, You Xia said, “By the way, Mom, a classmate lent me her uniform when she helped me. I want to return it, but what if she doesn’t want it back?”
“Uniform?” Tian Yizhen said. “You should still return it. School uniforms aren’t cheap.”
You Xia lowered her voice. “I know, but she said she didn’t want it anymore.”
“Then give it to one of her classmates to pass it on,” Tian Yizhen replied. “You should properly thank someone who helped you.”
You Xia nodded. “Okay.”
She thought to herself, I’ll find a quiet moment to return it to her.
Night had fallen, and Cheng Jianli was still at Jiang Muyan’s place.
The villa bustled with activity as a maid went upstairs to help Jiang Muyan bathe.
Cheng Jianli had only seen scenes like this in dramas. She was about to step back when she saw Jiang Muyan instinctively push the maid’s hand away, grumbling unhappily, “I don’t want you to help me bathe…”
The maid was surprised. “Miss, your pajamas are already prepared. Are you sure you don’t want to bathe?”
“Of course not! I want to bathe with my wife…”
The maids exchanged glances. Wife? What wife?
Turning to see Cheng Jianli standing there, they wondered was the young miss referring to Teacher Cheng? But they were classmates!
It seemed the young miss was already drunk enough to start talking nonsense.
The maid said, “Then at least drink the hangover soup before bathing.”
Jiang Muyan sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes. “All of you, get out. Don’t bother with me.”
The maids had no choice but to follow Jiang Muyan’s orders and leave the room.
Seeing Jiang Muyan like this, Cheng Jianli said softly, “If you won’t bathe, at least wash your hair.”
Jiang Muyan blinked dazedly. “Oh, wife, you want to wash your hair? Let me help you.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“I’m not taking a bath,” Cheng Jianli said. “I’ve already showered today.”
Jiang Muyan remarked, “No wonder you smell so nice. Did you use mango-scented body wash?”
If she didn’t know Jiang Muyan genuinely hadn’t attended physiology classes, Cheng Jianli would have thought she was playing dumb.
“No,” Cheng Jianli replied.
“Then let me wash your hair!” Jiang Muyan declared, jumping off the bed despite her drunken state and pulling Cheng Jianli toward the bathroom.
“Jiang Muyan, you!”
Jiang Muyan’s strength was formidable, and Cheng Jianli couldn’t break free, forced into the bathroom.
Cheng Jianli remembered Jiang Muyan’s tendency to lose her breath when overly excited.
She couldn’t let her emotions escalate, so she reluctantly went along.
The bathroom was unusually spacious, lined with expensive marble. The bathtub had a cool gray hue, its surface smooth and pleasant to the touch.
Jiang Muyan approached the tub and said, “Wifey, we have all kinds of bath products here flower petals, milk baths, whatever you want.” Unsteady from alcohol but still eager, she asked, “Wifey, how do you want to wash?”
The repeated “wifey” made Cheng Jianli’s scalp tingle. “Could you stop calling me that?”
Jiang Muyan looked puzzled. “If not that, then what should I call you?”
Cheng Jianli suddenly recalled their second meeting, when Jiang Muyan had asked the same question.
“Didn’t Uncle Liu tell you?” Cheng Jianli said.
Jiang Muyan blinked in confusion before finally murmuring, “Xiao Cheng… Xiao Cheng Laoshi?”
Cheng Jianli: “Mm.”
Jiang Muyan’s ears instantly reddened, her tone turning shy. “Wifey, you’re so wild picking a nickname like that.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“What exactly are you thinking?” Cheng Jianli reminded herself not to take a drunk person seriously. “Stop taking liberties with me.”
Jiang Muyan’s face flushed deeper with indignation. “I’m not taking liberties!”
Cheng Jianli said firmly, “Calling your classmate ‘wifey’ absolutely counts.”
“Nonsense! If I really wanted to take liberties,” Jiang Muyan boomed, “I’d have already dragged you into the tub and stripped you naked!”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“Jiang Muyan, if you talk like this to others while drunk,” Cheng Jianli inhaled deeply, “I genuinely think you’ll get arrested.”
After her outburst, Jiang Muyan seemed to have a headache. Rubbing her temples, she asked weakly, “Why would I get arrested…?”
“What do you think?” Cheng Jianli turned away. “You should drink the hangover soup before bathing.”
Jiang Muyan looked up dazedly. “Huh? You’re not washing anymore?”
“I’m not.”
“Really?”
“Mm,” Cheng Jianli said. “Let’s go.”
Jiang Muyan suggested, “You should wash. I already got the shampoo out, it’s milk-scented.”
“I’m afraid you’ll wash away what little brain capacity you have left. Hard pass.”
“I can help you wash!”
“No need.” Cheng Jianli knew letting Jiang Muyan wash her hair would risk exposing her scent gland. She didn’t want anyone knowing she’d already presented as an omega.
Thinking of this, Cheng Jianli added, “If my hair gets wet, it’ll be hard for me to go back later.”
“Oh right,” Jiang Muyan, easily swayed when drunk, nodded thoughtfully and put down the shampoo. “It wouldn’t be good if you caught a cold.”
“Let’s go out,” Cheng Jianli said.
After they left the bathroom, Jiang Muyan lay back on the bed, gazing at the ceiling with bleary, blinking eyes. Cheng Jianli stood nearby and asked, “Weren’t you thirsty? Do you still want water?”
“No more,” Jiang Muyan replied pitifully. “I think I talked too loudly when we were in the bathroom, and now my head hurts.”
“That’s why you shouldn’t run around when you’re drunk,” Cheng Jianli said, pulling the blanket over Jiang Muyan. “Just rest.”
“Wifey, you’re so thoughtful…” Jiang Muyan murmured sleepily, curling up in the warm blanket, her voice faint.
This was the first time Cheng Jianli had been called thoughtful, and she fell silent for a moment.
After a while, Cheng Jianli spoke softly, “Why did you ask me to pick you up from the bar today?”
Jiang Muyan seemed half-asleep and took a moment to respond, “Because… because I saved your number…”
Just because she had her number saved, she called her?
Cheng Jianli didn’t quite understand. She asked again, “What name did you save me under?”
But Jiang Muyan was too exhausted and didn’t hear the question before drifting off to sleep. Cheng Jianli watched her for a long moment before finally standing up and quietly closing the door behind her.
Uncle Liu was downstairs tidying up his toolbox when he saw her descend. “Teacher Cheng, why are you out here?” he asked in surprise.
“Jiang Muyan is asleep,” Cheng Jianli replied.
“Did the young miss just fall asleep?” Uncle Liu said. “The hangover soup isn’t ready yet.”
“She can have it when she wakes up,” Cheng Jianli said. “Uncle Liu, it’s getting late, so I’ll head home now. I’ll come back for the next tutoring session.”
Uncle Liu glanced outside, it was already dark. “Let me drive you then,” he offered. “It’s dangerous for you to go home alone at night.”
Cheng Jianli nodded.
The night scenery outside was dim, with only the occasional rustling of leaves stirred by the cool breeze.
Seated in the passenger seat, Cheng Jianli listened as Uncle Liu drove and apologized, “Teacher Cheng, the young miss said a lot of nonsense while drunk today. Please don’t take it to heart.”
Was he referring to her calling her “wifey”?
Cheng Jianli smiled faintly. “It’s fine. I didn’t take it seriously.”
“That’s good,” Uncle Liu chuckled. “The young miss loves joking around. Even the chairman and his wife can’t do anything about it. As long as she didn’t cause you any trouble…” He braked at a red light. “Actually, she’s a very kind and cheerful girl. Everyone around her adores her.”
“I can tell,” Cheng Jianli said, recalling the times Jiang Muyan had helped her. Despite having transferred to Class 2 only a few weeks ago, she had already befriended almost everyone. “She’s warm-hearted and considerate, and she gets along well with her classmates.”
Cheng Jianli added quietly, “Those are things I could never do.”
“Really? But I feel like the young miss likes you quite a bit,” Uncle Liu teased. “You’re the first tutor she actively sought out.”
Hearing this, Cheng Jianli felt something soften inside her. “I’ll do my best to help her improve her grades,” she said.
About half an hour later, Uncle Liu dropped Cheng Jianli off at her doorstep. After thanking him, she walked inside alone.
The house her grandmother had bought years ago was small but incredibly warm and cozy. Since her sophomore year in high school, Cheng Jianli had wanted to bring her grandmother from the countryside to live with her, but the old woman refused, insisting that Cheng focus on her studies first and not worry about anything else.
Cheng Jianli thought to herself that once she got into university, she’d have the means to support her grandmother while working part-time.
She stepped into her room.
Earlier, before going to pick up Jiang Muyan, she hadn’t finished a few chemistry problems. She needed to complete them now that she was back.
Oh, right her bicycle was still near the bar.
