After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 41
Knowing Qin Yue didn’t want to see her, Ling Jixiao nodded in agreement with Grandma Yang, then gave Qin Yue a deep look before turning to leave.
Doctor Bai and the nurses also left, leaving only Qin Yue and Grandma Yang in the large hospital room.
Qin Yue brought Grandma Yang a glass of warm water, then busied herself haphazardly organizing medical reports and other papers. There wasn’t really much to organize; the room was clean, and they had just entered. But Qin Yue needed something to do to distract herself from her wandering thoughts.
“Yue,” Grandma Yang said softly.
“What is it, Grandma Yang?” Qin Yue stopped what she was doing, walked over, and sat down by the bed.
Grandma Yang took Qin Yue’s hand, pulling her closer.
“You know, Yue, Grandma Hai and I knew each other for fifty years, but we were only together for about ten.”
“Ah, what happened?” Qin Yue asked, surprised.
Grandma Yang smiled. “She was my senior at high school. I still remember it clearly. I was fifteen when I first saw her, racing on the track and winning first place. Surrounded by the crowd under the sunlight, she was dazzling. I thought to myself, ‘This Female Alpha is so beautiful.'”
“At that moment, my heart raced so fast I felt it wasn’t even mine. My eyes and mind were consumed by her image.”
“I was young back then and didn’t know what love was. I just foolishly chased after her for two years. Then, when Hai graduated and was leaving, I realized I wanted to confess my feelings. But I saw her with a lovely Omega girl, chatting happily. So I silently left.”
“Haha, I was pretty silly back then. I thought Hai didn’t like me. But after I graduated too and started working at a factory instead of going to university, I found Hai working there too.”
“That was a pretty happy time. Hai had already become the team leader and taught me a lot about the work, so our relationship grew closer and closer.”
Qin Yue laughed and asked eagerly, “So, did Grandma Yang and Grandma Hai end up together then?”
Grandma Yang shook her head with a smile. “No, we didn’t. In my day, people married young. After I graduated from high school, my family started pressuring me to get married. They set me up on a blind date, but I refused at first. Later, I found out that Hai’s family had already arranged a marriage for her, so in a fit of anger, I went on the blind date.”
Hearing this, Qin Yue looked visibly disappointed, feeling sorry for the two elders who had missed their chance.
“I did meet Hai’s fiancée once. She was a beautiful girl, and her family seemed very satisfied with the match. Later, Hai’s family came to me and demanded I stay away, saying I was ruining Hai’s good marriage. The whole factory knew about it. I was young and naive back then, and I really believed I had ruined Hai’s life. Angry and ashamed, I quit my job and left. I haven’t seen her since.”
Grandma Yang’s eyes glazed over as she sank into her memories, her face etched with regret over her past impulsiveness.
“Thinking back now, if I had just asked Hai what she really felt, if I’d asked who was in her heart, maybe we wouldn’t have missed each other for so long.”
Qin Yue gripped Grandma Yang’s hand, her voice urgent. “So what happened after that? How did you two finally meet again?”
Grandma Yang patted Qin Yue’s hand, signaling her to calm down.
“Over the next few years, my family set me up on several dates. In the end, we settled on Male Alpha. He was a decent enough man, so I agreed to give him a chance. During that time, I heard Hai’s factory had closed, and all the workers were laid off. I thought, Hai’s so capable; she’ll definitely find a better job. Besides, I was already seeing someone else.”
“It had been over ten years since we graduated from high school, and seven or eight years since I’d last seen Hai. My family was pushing me hard to marry, but deep down, I just wasn’t ready. Looking back now, I realize I was subconsciously still waiting for Hai, clinging to hope.”
Later, just as I was about to get engaged, I met her. That moment, I realized my heart, which had been dormant, was beating again. Learning that Hai was still single, I resolutely broke off the engagement and chose to be with her.
Qin Yue’s face lit up with joy, happy that the two could finally be together.
After talking to her, I learned that Hai’s factory had closed down, forcing her into early unemployment. Her fiancé then dumped her and broke off the engagement. With the economy struggling and jobs scarce, Hai had been surviving on temporary work. I didn’t care about her financial situation; I just wanted to be with her. But my family vehemently opposed the idea of me being with someone without a stable job.
Not long after we started dating, Hai proposed a breakup. At the time, I didn’t understand and thought she had lost her feelings for me. I cried for days. Later, I discovered that my family had found her and pressured her. Hai also believed she wasn’t capable enough to give me a proper life, so she left me.
Qin Yue lowered her head, looking sad.
“After that, I stubbornly refused to marry for several more years. By the time I was in my thirties, my family was frantic and introduced me to countless Alphas. Over time, I’d grown more accepting of my situation and realized I was getting older, so I agreed to give a divorced Female Alpha a chance. Just as we’d been dating for two years and were planning to get married, I got into a car accident.”
Hearing this, Qin Yue gripped the bedsheets tightly, her heart pounding.
“At that moment, I felt like the sky was falling. My legs were severely fractured, and I thought I’d never walk again. The Female Alpha left me, and I spent my days lying in bed in a daze, resigned to spending the rest of my life like that. Then Hai came.”
As Grandma Yang spoke, her eyes lit up with happiness.
“Hai… When she learned about my situation, she quit her job without hesitation to care for me and encourage me. She gave me the confidence to stand up again. I’m so lucky to have met her in this life!”
As Grandma Yang spoke, her eyes reddened, and her expression grew increasingly somber. “But before my legs had fully healed, that foolish Hai rushed to bring me lunch one day and got into a car accident. Shattered glass cut her eyes. I was terrified when I saw both of her eyes bleeding. She could have been treated and recovered, but she secretly stopped her treatment to save money for my rehabilitation. By the time I discovered it, it was too late…”
At this point, Grandma Yang began to sob. This was the greatest pain of her life, a permanent guilt she carried. It was all because of her that Grandma Hai lost her job and her sight.
Qin Yue patted Grandma Yang’s back comfortingly. “Grandma Hai doesn’t blame you. She told me that as long as you’re by her side, she’s perfectly happy.”
Grandma Yang sniffled and wiped the tears from her eyes. “Later, when I fully recovered and could walk again, she went blind. I wanted to marry her, but she always refused, saying she didn’t want to hold me back. I didn’t give up and stubbornly stayed by her side. We endured for several more years like that, until she finally agreed to marry me. But alas, by then we were both old ladies.”
Qin Yue felt her heart soften with sympathy. The two elders had finally come together, only for Grandma Yang to be diagnosed with cancer just a few years later. Isn’t this fate playing cruel tricks? she thought.
She silently prayed for a miracle to happen for Grandma Yang.
After drying her tears, Grandma Yang took Qin Yue’s hand and patted it. “I’m telling you all this because I’ve been through it myself. I can see that Xiao Ling has feelings for you, and you’re not truly indifferent to her either. I don’t know what happened between you two, but since you both care about each other, don’t let misunderstandings hold you back. Just like Hai and I, we let misunderstandings keep us apart for so many years, missing out on so much. Whatever it is, you must talk it out face-to-face and clear things up. Don’t leave any regrets.”
Qin Yue fell silent for a moment, then nodded gently. “I understand.”
Grandma Yang seemed to remember something and hurriedly stood up.
“Grandma Yang, what’s wrong?” Qin Yue rushed over to steady her.
The elderly woman anxiously pulled on her coat and gathered her belongings. “I need to get back quickly. It’s been so long, Hai must be worried sick!”
The thought of her husband waiting for her spurred her into action.
“Alright, alright, don’t rush!” Qin Yue grabbed her own coat and hurried after her.
Recently, Grandma Yang had been experiencing headaches and dizziness. She had dismissed it as a common age-related issue, but now she knew it was due to cancer cells spreading to her brain. When Doctor Bai prescribed a stack of medications, she hesitated briefly before accepting them.
People are inherently selfish. Even though she knew she couldn’t afford the cost of the medication, she wanted to live a few more months—just long enough to spend a proper New Year with Grandma Hai.
Bai Zhi actually didn’t know how to cook.
Before going to university, she had been studying all the time, and her family had taken care of all the household chores. When she went to university, there was the school cafeteria, so even if she wanted to learn to cook, she didn’t have the chance.
The first time she cooked at Su Yao’s place, she made a big mistake and confused sugar and salt. Although Su Yao didn’t say anything, Bai Zhi felt guilty and worried that Su Yao would dislike her.
So, while Su Yao was at work, Bai Zhi started studying cookbooks and practicing cooking. She was even more focused than when she was studying at school.
Fortunately, she had some talent for cooking. The second time she cooked, it tasted pretty good, which made Bai Zhi breathe a little sigh of relief.
Over the next two days, she worked hard to improve her cooking skills. She prepared delicious dinners for Su Yao every day, and Su Yao praised them highly. This made Bai Zhi feel wonderful, especially when she saw Su Yao enjoying the food she had made.
After three or four days of living together, even though Bai Zhi was staying in a guest room, she felt like she was living and eating with Su Yao like a newlywed couple. This made her heart bubble with happiness.
Some people say that living together can help you get to know someone better in many ways, including their habits, personality, and attitude towards life. Many couples grow apart because of this.
During the past few days of living together, Bai Zhi found herself growing even fonder of Su Yao.
Su Yao was organized and efficient, managing her day with clear plans. Bai Zhi felt she could practically stop worrying about anything with Su Yao around.
Su Yao kept her social interactions simple, focusing on work and returning home after hours without much socializing. This simplicity put Bai Zhi at ease.
Su Yao was positive and cheerful. Though she preferred quiet, she never showed any displeasure when Bai Zhi chattered excitedly. Instead, she listened patiently, occasionally chiming in with supportive remarks.
Su Yao was also incredibly knowledgeable. No matter what topic Bai Zhi brought up, Su Yao could always contribute, making their conversations engaging.
Bai Zhi had always dreamed of finding a perfect, beautiful Alpha who would make her heart race and inspire her to love fiercely. Could she have finally found that person?
Bai Zhi frowned, then shook her head, silently telling herself she was overthinking things. With a cheerful spring in her step, she hurried to the kitchen to start cooking—Su Yao would be home soon.
Just as she finished chopping the vegetables, the doorbell rang. Thinking Su Yao had forgotten her keys, Bai Zhi skipped over to open the door. But instead of Su Yao, she found a stern-looking woman in her fifties or sixties standing outside.
The woman looked at her quizzically. “Who are you?”
“Who are you looking for?” Bai Zhi asked nervously, gripping the doorknob tightly, her heart racing with a bad feeling.
The woman sized her up, her gaze lingering on Bai Zhi’s apron. “I’m Su Yao’s mother. Where is Su Yao?”
