After Transmigrating into a Book, I Was Entangled by a Crazy and Beautiful Villain - Chapter 1
The surroundings were a thicket of overgrown woods. The moon was obscured by dense clouds, and the area was pitch black with very low visibility. Occasionally, a chilly wind would sweep through, and the distant cries of unknown birds added an extra layer of suppression to the already eerie atmosphere.
The sudden crunching sound of leaves being trampled shattered the silence. Although the noise wasn’t loud, it was conspicuous in this still, almost dead silent, place.
The man and woman in camouflage night-traveling attire ahead both turned their heads. The young woman’s eyes held a hint of exasperation, and the young man beside her also frowned.
Song Linlin stood awkwardly where she was, waving her hands apologetically at them. She parted her lips but didn’t make a sound, silently signaling, “I didn’t see clearly, I’ll definitely be careful next time.”
Only then did the two in front turn back, and the trio continued their cautious journey through the dark forest.
Song Linlin silently followed behind the other two, feeling somewhat resigned. Walking through a dark, desolate forest on a moonless night like this made it hard not to have some unpleasant associations.
Today was Song Linlin’s second day since transmigrating into a book. She had the misfortune of becoming a mere extra in a major female lead novel, someone whose description never exceeded twenty characters. Her name was mentioned only once upon her debut, and the second time she was mentioned was in the sect’s records, describing “heavy losses to the team”—and she was one of those losses.
In the original novel, this was the scene of the female lead’s first experience down the mountain. Song Linlin was unlucky enough to be assigned to the same team as the female lead. The difficulty of the originally simple mission escalated sharply. The enemy, who was supposedly at the maximum initial Golden Core stage, had hidden their true strength and was actually on the verge of entering the Nascent Soul realm.
In contrast, most of her team of ten were novices who had just recently advanced to the Foundation Establishment stage. Song Linlin was even more of a half-baked amateur, only managing to achieve Foundation Establishment by relying on medicinal pills.
If she were to truly confront that big boss, a simple move from the opponent would likely be enough to send Song Linlin to respawn multiple times.
Song Linlin imagined the scene and couldn’t help but shiver. She had grown up in the 21st century and had never experienced any danger. Now, facing this life-threatening plot, she chickened out without hesitation.
She must find a way to escape!
Thus, Song Linlin volunteered to join the female lead and another powerful senior brother from the team to scout for intelligence on the outskirts of the city.
Having read the original, Song Linlin remembered clearly that the big boss, who was hiding at the main camp outside the city, already knew the protagonists were investigating him. He deliberately released false information to lure this group of rookie disciples into his trap, intending to wipe them out completely.
Tonight, the female lead planned to conduct a final probe. If the mission target’s strength was within their solvable range, they would charge in another day to eliminate him for the people.
Song Linlin’s main reason for volunteering for this probe was, of course, to escape this dangerous main storyline. She had no desire to truly become cannon fodder.
The second reason was to subtly warn the female lead that this mission was not as simple as it seemed. If it were as they expected, she wouldn’t need to disappear.
Implementing this plan first required Song Linlin to find an excuse to break away, leave the female lead’s sight, and then fabricate signs of a struggle to pretend she was captured by the enemy.
As for why she didn’t just quietly leave? That was because the other two had higher cultivation levels than her amateur self. Trying to escape without a sound? She might as well dream on…
Song Linlin sighed softly, musing helplessly, “I can only help you this much. The rest is up to you.”
At first, she had considered directly warning the female lead that the intelligence they had was wrong, that the opponent had released false information, and that his actual cultivation level was far beyond what this group of rookies could handle.
But Song Linlin currently had no evidence to prove this. She was just an ordinary disciple; where would she get the means to know such things?
The reasoning was flimsy and could easily expose her abnormality, so Song Linlin had to give up and adopt a more roundabout approach.
They were now not far from their destination for the night, the Maple Leaf Monastery. Feeling the timing was right, Song Linlin deliberately quickened her pace, caught up with Ye Tingran, the female lead walking in front of her, and gently tugged on a corner of her robe.
Ye Tingran turned her head, looking at Song Linlin with confusion. Song Linlin did her best to put on an embarrassed expression, leaned close to the other’s ear, and whispered, “Senior Sister Ye, can I go relieve myself? I really can’t hold it!”
Song Linlin covered her lower abdomen and continued awkwardly, “You and Senior Brother Liu go ahead. I’ll catch up to you soon!”
“You…”
Ye Tingran was speechless for a moment, but seeing Song Linlin’s seemingly desperate state and her history of being accident-prone along the way, she swallowed the words she was about to say. She didn’t overthink it, assuming Song Linlin was just scared.
“Alright then. Go quickly and come back. Catch up to us as soon as possible.”
“Okay! Thank you, Senior Sister!”
Seeing that the other party agreed, Song Linlin immediately turned and ran into the nearby bushes. Making her escape with such a clumsy and idiotic excuse was utterly embarrassing, but Song Linlin wasn’t a very clever person to begin with, or she wouldn’t have transmigrated into a mere extra.
Away from Ye Tingran’s sight, Song Linlin drew her sword and randomly slashed at the surrounding plants. At first glance, the area was full of marks from a sharp sword, but she felt it wasn’t intense enough, a little fake.
“Should I create some more marks on the ground?”
Song Linlin pondered this inwardly. Having made up her mind, she quickly took action. Her shoes scuffed the overgrown ground as she retreated, swinging her sword at the roadside weeds from time to time.
She was faking a struggle with the enemy, gradually leading the fight off the main path. Of course, she couldn’t overdo it. Given her pitiful combat skills, she should be captured by the enemy after only a brief resistance.
When Song Linlin felt it was enough, she sheathed her sword and was reasonably satisfied with her “masterpiece” after a few minutes of work.
“This should be enough to fool them, right?”
Unable to think of any other missing details for the moment, Song Linlin decided not to push herself and chose to hurry and leave. She planned to find a nearby cave on the outskirts of the city to lay low for a few days, and then go into the city to gather information once the storm passed.
As for what to do next?
Song Linlin decided she would worry about the future later. Her priority was to safely navigate this opening scene where she was supposed to be sacrificed and save her life for now.
Walking in the dark outskirts, the gloomy clouds in the sky grew thicker. The already low visibility environment became even darker. Fortunately, Song Linlin was a cultivator, and her eyesight was enhanced, allowing her to barely make out her surroundings.
She looked up at the dark, heavy night sky, finding it strangely unsettling.
Normal natural phenomena shouldn’t look like this. The deeper Song Linlin walked, the heavier the Yin energy in the area felt.
Even those strange bird calls had suddenly disappeared at some point. The surroundings were silent; apart from her own footsteps, no other sound could be heard.
A wave of panic hit Song Linlin. When there were three of them, the scary atmosphere wasn’t this obvious. She hesitated, wondering if she should turn around and walk in a different direction.
However, the next moment, a feeling of weightlessness struck. The patch of grass, tall enough to reach her knees, looked flat, but Song Linlin stepped on empty air, and her whole body plummeted down.
“Aaaah!!!”
Song Linlin fell through the air for several seconds before landing on the ground again. Unfortunately, the ground was uneven and sloped downwards. Song Linlin, who had slammed into the ground, rolled several times before finally coming to a stop.
Her bones felt like they were scattered, to the point where Song Linlin couldn’t say which part hurt the most. She gasped several times, and her chest immediately gave a few sharp pangs.
Faced with this situation, Song Linlin momentarily didn’t know whether to celebrate her good luck for not dying from such a high fall or to complain why she was so unlucky as to fall into a cave while walking on flat ground.
“Why is there a cave in this godforsaken place?!”
Song Linlin couldn’t help but complain. Now, her whole body was sore, and lying on the ground was really uncomfortable. She unbuckled the sword at her waist, used the scabbard as a brace against the ground, and managed to stand up with great effort.
“Phew…”
Leaning on her sword, Song Linlin let out a soft breath. She was careful not to move too much for fear of straining a muscle, which would result in more pain.
Seeing that she could stand up, she felt a little relieved. This meant her fall probably wasn’t too severe, and the worst-case scenario hadn’t happened. If she had broken a leg after falling into this hidden cave, that would have been disastrous.
The cave was not pitch black. An unknown plant was emitting a blue fluorescence. Song Linlin looked up at the hole she had fallen through, but all she saw was a patch of darkness.
It seemed climbing back up was impossible…
Staying here wasn’t a solution either. She could only lean on her sword and slowly walk forward. This place, referred to as a cave, was more like a tunnel. Its size was small at first but gradually opened up further in, with all sorts of bizarre plants growing everywhere.
Song Linlin dared not touch the plants casually. They looked so strange; what if they were poisonous? She had to proceed with caution.
After walking for nearly half an hour, the repetitive scenery was exceptionally tedious. Song Linlin was starting to doubt if this place even had an exit when she heard the faint, distant sound of human voices.
The sound traveled from far away, echoing badly in the hollow cave. She couldn’t clearly make out what they were saying, only vaguely distinguishing two middle-aged male voices and one female voice.
This discovery excited Song Linlin. Her body wasn’t hurting as much as when she first fell. Song Linlin quickly hastened her steps toward the source of the sound.
An exit covered in dense plants appeared before her eyes. Strips of purple vine-like plants hung down from above the exit, perfectly concealing it.
Song Linlin carefully approached the exit. Through the vines, she couldn’t see the outside situation, but the muffled human voices were now quite clear.
“Surrender, your demoness! Today, you have met us two brothers; it must be your doomed fate. Give up your struggle quickly, and we’ll grant you a swift passing!”
The other middle-aged man seconded this with a few bad-natured laughs. He sounded nothing like a good person: “Hehehe! It’s a pity about this beautiful face… but we two brothers are determined to eliminate evil for the people today!”
Song Linlin was utterly confused: What kind of Soul Hall Elder is this?
They claimed to be eliminating evil for the people, but why did they sound exactly like villains?
Wait, something felt amiss. It seemed like the people outside were about to start fighting!
She was just a beginner in the Foundation Establishment stage; it was better to stay far away, lest she be accidentally injured by their fight. That would truly be a devastating loss.
Song Linlin lightened her steps and quietly retreated two steps. However, her long sword, in a moment of inattention, hit the stone wall with a “Clang!”—the crisp sound of metal colliding.
All sounds outside immediately paused. Song Linlin’s heart also stopped for a second.
Oh no!!!
She’d been discovered!
“Who’s there?! Sneaking around, come out quickly!” The man who had laughed ominously earlier shouted sternly towards Song Linlin’s location.
Song Linlin desperately wanted to play dead or crawl into a crack in the ground, but after considering the consequence of the opponents coming to catch her personally, she bit the bullet, lifted the vines concealing her, and passed through a patch of human-high weeds, appearing before the others who were in a standoff.
The first thing she saw were two middle-aged men whose bodies overflowed with demonic energy. The two looked seven parts alike, both sporting the standard villainous look. The faint pressure they radiated made Song Linlin tremble.
“I’m doomed! I’ve run into a hellish plot where big shots are fighting!”
Song Linlin felt she was incredibly unlucky. Did this world have to hold such great malice towards an extra character?!
In other words, was she destined to be unable to escape the opening scene where she was supposed to be sacrificed?
“Wearing the uniform of a Mysterious Cloud Sect disciple…”
The middle-aged man, who was clearly the elder brother, glanced at Song Linlin, then dismissively retracted his gaze. He addressed his younger brother, “She’s just a novice brat in the Foundation Establishment stage. Don’t worry about her. We can kill her after we finish off that woman.”
Hearing this, Song Linlin first felt certain she was going to die, then keenly noticed the mention of another person. She immediately turned her head to look in the other direction.
She saw a woman standing not far away. She was wearing a long red dress, with delicate silver chain decorations hanging on her clothes. A head of silver-white hair cascaded down to her waist, swaying lightly with the passing breeze.
The woman seemed to notice Song Linlin’s gaze fixed on her. She slightly turned her head, briefly glancing sideways.
Her face held a hint of pathological paleness. Her silver hair was like snow, and her red eyes showed coldness and a touch of disregard. She didn’t pay much attention to the person who had suddenly appeared, merely offering a fleeting, indifferent look before withdrawing her gaze.
And Song Linlin, finally seeing the other person’s face clearly, was instantly stunned by her beauty. She felt that the woman and those two villainous middle-aged men were simply not in the same league. Just standing there made it impossible to look away.
Someone with this kind of appearance could probably only be compared with the female lead, Ye Tingran!
