After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 46.4
She had really wanted to ask back then, why Ning Hongmian? Why not her?
Song Qingyi felt that no one could be more suitable than her, but she didn’t ask. She didn’t know what position she could ask from.
So, she had no choice but to suppress it, carrying that frustration with her all day as she worked, until the afternoon when she could no longer hold back.
She left work a little early, drove over to the address, and waited in silence. Only when the time was about right did she send Chu Ling a message to ask about her progress.
Only to forget there was a third wheel present.
At the sight of Ning Hongmian, Song Qingyi’s lips pressed into a slight frown.
Her fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel, as if deep in thought.
Chu Ling glanced at her, then averted her gaze, only to look back again, her eyes unconsciously lingering on Song Qingyi’s hands.
After several attempts to look away and failing, Chu Ling finally gave up, quietly letting her gaze rest on those hands.
The gauze on her left wrist had been removed, the wound already scabbed over. Some parts had peeled away, revealing the newly grown, pinkish flesh beneath.
It wasn’t the least bit unsightly instead, it resembled red plum blossoms blooming in the snow.
Somehow, it drew the eye.
The scar-reducing ointment must have been quite effective; it didn’t seem like it would leave a mark. That was what Chu Ling thought.
“Hongmian, I’ll take you home first,” Song Qingyi suddenly said.
Ning Hongmian smiled serenely. “Okay, Auntie.”
Meanwhile, inside, she was weeping rivers.
Wuwuwu, and here she thought she could spend more time with Sister Chu Ling.
Auntie is so cold and heartless!
Chu Ling snapped out of her thoughts at her words. “Huh? What? You’re taking Hongmian home first? Why not have dinner before heading back?”
Song Qingyi tightened her grip on the steering wheel slightly, her expression unchanging, but she glanced at Ning Hongmian through the rearview mirror.
Ning Hongmian, however, didn’t notice at all, too busy being delighted by Chu Ling’s suggestion.
“Really?! Can I come over for dinner?!”
Chu Ling: “…”
Why did this kid act like she’d never had a proper meal before?
For once, she was caught off guard, hesitantly looking at Song Qingyi. “Um… is that okay?”
Thanks to Ning Hongmian, she remembered, that was Song Qingyi’s home.

Chu Ling cautiously sought Song Qingyi’s opinion.
Song Qingyi very much wanted to say no, but when she caught Chu Ling’s hopeful gaze out of the corner of her eye, she nodded. “Mm, sure. We can stop to buy groceries on the way back.”
Chu Ling let out a quiet sigh of relief, while Ning Hongmian in the backseat softly cheered.
Seeing her so happy, Chu Ling smiled too.
“Alright, then what should we make for dinner?”
Chu Ling began pondering, even asking Ning Hongmian what she’d like to eat.
The kid wore an expression of practiced restraint. “I’m fine with anything. I’m not picky.”
Song Qingyi side-eyed the so-called “not picky” child and scoffed lightly.
Ning Hongmian: “…”
Auntie is so mean!
Chu Ling watched them, her eyes crinkling with amusement. “It’s fine, you can say what you’d like to eat. Ahem, your aunt can make anything!”
She had originally meant to say she’d cook, but after considering her own culinary skills, she swallowed those words. Her cooking was truly not fit for public consumption though at least it wouldn’t land anyone in the hospital.
Ning Hongmian noticed the pause in Chu Ling’s words and was surprised, but what shocked her even more was…
“Auntie can cook?!”
She was utterly shocked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Chu Ling was also taken aback by her reaction and hesitantly asked, “You didn’t know?”
Ning Hongmian shook her head frantically, “No, I had no idea!”
Chu Ling paused and looked at Song Qingyi, but her expression remained unchanged, showing no reaction to Ning Hongmian’s surprise.
It was like a ripple disturbing the calm surface of a lake Chu Ling felt the tranquility in her heart suddenly disrupted.
Song Qingyi was an excellent cook, and Chu Ling had assumed it was because she cooked often. Yet even Ning Hongmian, as family, had been unaware. Only Chu Ling had the privilege of frequently eating her meals.
A strange feeling welled up inside her.
How surreal!
Chu Ling stared blankly, lost in thought.
The atmosphere in the car grew oddly tense. Ning Hongmian, sharp as ever, sensed something was off but couldn’t quite place it.
Luckily, she was in the back seat, allowing her to observe discreetly.
But even her covert surveillance yielded nothing, leaving her utterly bewildered.
In the end, she concluded: the world of adults is so complicated!
However, Chu Ling quickly snapped out of it, closing her eyes to feign rest while shaking off the jumbled thoughts in her head.
Better not overthink things, it never leads anywhere good.
The car moved smoothly along, and before she knew it, Chu Ling had actually dozed off. When she was roused awake, they were already in the parking lot.
But not the supermarket’s, it was their home’s.
She blinked in confusion. “Huh? Weren’t we going grocery shopping?”
Ning Hongmian, nearly tearful upon seeing her awake, exclaimed, “We already bought everything! Come on, Chu Ling-jie, we’re here!”
Chu Ling was taken aback by her expression. “What’s with you…?”
Ning Hongmian slowly blinked. “Nothing. I’m fine.”
Some sorrows were not meant to be shared with one’s elder sister.
Ning Hongmian shut her eyes in agony.
Had she known the atmosphere would be this unbearable, she wouldn’t have tagged along.
God, she wanted to smack herself, how had she been so blind before?
How had she never noticed? Auntie clearly held Chu Ling-jie in such high regard that was no way to treat just a friend!
Earlier in the car, after Chu Ling-jie fell asleep, the air had turned suffocating.
The space inside the car wasn’t large to begin with, but now it felt like all circulation had ceased. Ning Hongmian could barely breathe.
As for the groceries.
Needless to say, since Chu Ling-jie was asleep, they hadn’t even gotten out to shop. Instead, they’d had everything delivered.
What shocked her even more was that after arriving at the parking lot, Auntie had deliberately waited another fifteen minutes before pretending they’d just arrived to wake Chu Ling-jie while also warning Ning Hongmian not to spill the truth.
Staring at the oblivious Chu Ling-jie, Ning Hongmian was drowning in unspeakable misery.
Ahhhhh, she was far too young to bear all this!!!
Was there no one who could understand her pain?
