After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 35.2
Chu Ling paused mid-step, suddenly remembering.
This bedding set, she had bought it with Song Qingyi on the day she moved in. So, Song Qingyi had actually started using it.
A small wave of happiness washed over her. That day, the atmosphere between them hadn’t been great, and she had assumed Song Qingyi wouldn’t use the set after all.
Yet here it was, already on her bed.
Unable to resist, Chu Ling stole another glance at Song Qingyi’s bed before finally remembering her actual task. She began searching the room.
The drawer Song Qingyi had mentioned was easy to spot. When she pulled it open, a single document lay inside.
“This must be it, right?”
Chu Ling murmured to herself. To make sure she hadn’t grabbed the wrong thing, she snapped a photo and sent it to Song Qingyi for confirmation.
Only after getting the green light did she pick up the document. As she left, she pretended to casually scan the room one last time before reluctantly closing the door behind her.
“Ah, what a sin! Why be so curious about someone else’s room, Chu Ling?”
Shaking off the useless thoughts in her head, Chu Ling grabbed the documents and headed out.
The address Song Qingyi had sent was in a bustling commercial district, one even Chu Ling had heard of after all, it was in the city center, and she had visited the shopping mall there before.
But this time, she wasn’t going to the mall. She was heading to the company where Song Qingyi worked.
Though she had imagined it, given Song Qingyi’s affluent background, the company must be sizable standing at the foot of the towering skyscraper still left her in awe.
The overwhelming aura of commerce and the oppressive weight of corporate life hit her instantly.
Chu Ling couldn’t help but recall the days when she had been enslaved by work.
Back then, overtime was the norm, and the office had practically become her second home. These glamorous-looking buildings were nothing but daily sources of misery.
Thankfully, she wasn’t here for work this time.
With that thought, Chu Ling stepped inside.
She had planned to ask Song Qingyi which floor she was on, assuming the building housed multiple companies. But as soon as she entered, her gaze landed on a set of imposing characters overhead.
There was only one name, no others in sight.
Chu Ling froze for a moment.
Could it be, this entire building belonged to?
Perhaps she had been standing there too long, because passersby began to glance at her curiously.
“Hello, do you have an appointment?”
It must have been the receptionist, likely mistaking her for some suspicious character.
Chu Ling thought for a second. This was absurd, Song Qingyi hadn’t mentioned anything about needing an appointment!
She shook her head. “No, but—”
Before she could finish, the woman’s expression darkened, her tone turning wary. “If you don’t have an appointment, please leave and come back when you do.”
The shift in attitude was abrupt, her words cold and clipped.
In a workplace, even the smallest disturbance draws attention, and soon, curious glances from others around them followed.
Chu Ling could even sense a few unfriendly stares among them.
Whispers reached her ears, and she glanced down at her outfit for the day.
Well, she did stick out like a sore thumb in this building.
Judging people by their clothes was shallow, this outfit was comfortable, after all.
But everyone here was dressed like corporate elites, making her casual appearance an anomaly.
Chu Ling wasn’t bothered. She had faced plenty of malice growing up; a few judgmental looks wouldn’t break her.
But this receptionist, why did she lack basic courtesy? Was it so hard to let someone finish speaking?
On one hand, Chu Ling understood maybe she had dealt with too many similar situations and didn’t want to waste time. On the other hand, it still annoyed her.
Because once again, the woman cut her off before she could explain.
Chu Ling studied the woman carefully. “Your company’s staff could really use some lessons in manners.”
The woman’s last trace of politeness vanished. “I don’t need you to teach me how to do my job. If you don’t leave now, I’ll call security.”
Clearly convinced Chu Ling had no appointment and was just trying to sneak in, the receptionist’s tone was unyielding. True to her word, she immediately signaled for security.
Chu Ling noticed another receptionist nearby looking uneasy.
“Ms. Zhong, isn’t this a bit much? Shouldn’t we at least hear her out first.”
The woman called Sister Zhong said impatiently, “Why ask? No appointment, not here for an interview, yet she stares at our company’s name the moment she walks in. Clearly up to no good. Should we just let her in instead of kicking her out? Who’ll take responsibility if something happens?”
Sister Zhong had a point, and Xiao Cai knew it. But the other party hadn’t even finished speaking before Sister Zhong jumped to conclusions. Xiao Cai couldn’t shake a nagging unease.
Chu Ling watched this absurd farce unfold, feeling mentally drained.
“Could you at least let people finish speaking?”
Sister Zhong wanted to retort, but when she met Chu Ling’s gaze, her bluster inexplicably faltered. A whisper of doubt crept into her mind.
She looks easy to push around, how does she have such sharp eyes?
Seeing that communication was finally possible, Chu Ling relaxed. As expected, sometimes imitating Song Qingyi works wonders.
Even if the imitation wasn’t perfect, a little went a long way.
At the very least, it had cowed this woman!
Seizing the moment, Chu Ling pressed on, “I don’t have an appointment, but I’m here to deliver a document. Since you insist on stopping me, please hand this to Song Qingyi yourself.”
The sound of sharp inhales around them was unmistakable more than one, impossible to ignore.
Chu Ling frowned. “What? Is she not here?”
Sister Zhong’s mind blanked for a second. Now she was truly stunned.
Who in the company didn’t know Song Qingyi’s name? Working here and not knowing the boss’s name would be laughable.
The onlookers froze for a beat before scattering like startled birds.
Whether this person was really here to see President Song or not, this was not a spectacle to stick around for.
From rank-and-file employees to department heads, no one in this company dared cross Song Qingyi.
If this woman really knew the president, and any of them were remembered for gawking, getting sidelined would be as easy as snapping fingers!
Everyone hurried back to their tasks except Sister Zhong, who swallowed nervously.
“You, you’re here to see President Song?”
Chu Ling nodded without much thought. “Yes, she asked me to deliver a document. Just take it upstairs.”
She was about to say that if they wouldn’t let her up, it was fine she genuinely disliked confrontations. She could just message Song Qingyi on WeChat later.
But the expressions of the two women before her shifted noticeably.
Xiao Cai whispered to Sister Zhong, “Sis, she’s here for President Song. Should we let her in?”
Sister Zhong was torn. She feared offending the wrong person, but without an appointment, how could she be sure this wasn’t a lie? If she let the woman in and got reprimanded later, she didn’t want that responsibility.
But if this person did know President Song and was turned away, she’d be in just as much trouble.
Regret gnawed at her. Why didn’t I let her finish speaking earlier? Now she was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Chu Ling waited, her patience thinning. “Made up your minds? If there’s no issue, just take it up.”
Sister Zhong quickly shook her head, her tone now cautious and polite. “Hold on, we need to verify this first.”
To avoid mistakes, Sister Zhong decided to check with Secretary Xu, who handled all external appointments for President Song. If this woman really knew the president, at least she wouldn’t have burned all bridges.
Xiao Cai received the instructions and hurriedly tried to dial the internal line.
Then a voice suddenly rang out, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Miss Chu? What are you doing here? Are you looking for Qingyi?”
Chu Ling turned her head and stiffened slightly because the person speaking was none other than the female lead, Ye Zhiyin.
This was absurd. Had she known that delivering a file would lead to running into the female lead, she wouldn’t have come, just to avoid the awkwardness.
And, how did Ye Zhiyin already seem to know her name?!
At the thought, Chu Ling felt even more rigid. But before she could say anything, another voice, colder than even Song Qingyi’s, spoke up.
“Someone you know?”
Ye Zhiyin nodded. “Yeah! She’s Qingyi’s, Oh! President Qin, you’re so nosy.”
