- After Transmigrating As The Scummy Villain Ex, I Overturned
- Chapter 3 - The Diamond Ring
Song Xi never dreamed that the “stiff and boring” ex-girlfriend Su Chuiyun had described would ever act so provocatively, to the point of being a bully.
If she didn’t know better, she would have thought Ming Shu who was unaware she was at the door was doing it specifically for her benefit.
Too much! What high-level manipulation!
It was a long time after Song Xi left in a fit of rage that the person inside finally finished.
Originally, Song Xi only wanted money from Su Chuiyun, she didn’t care for her heart at all. But now that Su Chuiyun’s gaze had shifted to someone else, Song Xi felt a sting. She kicked a trash can in the hallway with all her might to vent her frustration.
Inside the hospital room.
Su Chuiyun’s hands, sticky from the apple juice, felt clean and dry again after being wiped down with wet tissues.
The pale, beautiful girl sitting on the bed against the sunlight smiled faintly.
“Thank you, Sister.”
Ming Shu sat by the bed, her gaze greedily tracing Su Chuiyun’s familiar face.
The two had grown up together. Ming Shu hadn’t missed a moment of Su Chuiyun’s life at three, four, six, ten… all the way to eighteen.
Su Chuiyun: “…”
This “Sister’s” gaze was so intense it was becoming difficult for her to continue playing blind. The girl’s ash-grey eyes shifted downward slightly, terrified of showing any signs of sight.
Ming Shu smiled gently. “Our A-Yun is getting more beautiful by the day.”
Su Chuiyun flushed. In the mirror, she looked seventy to eighty percent like her original self; one could easily say they were the same person.
The girl offered sweet words, “If I could see you right now, you would surely be much prettier than me.”
Ming Shu didn’t respond. Her eyes traced her brows, her long hair, the bridge of her nose, her lips. Her gaze felt almost tangible everywhere it landed, Su Chuiyun’s nerves tightened.
Particularly those distinct fingers, the nail beds were lovely, and even without long nails, they looked slender. On her wrist was a hospital ID band, the bone structure delicate.
So beautiful. I really want to touch them.
“A-Yun, why is your face turning red?”
Su Chuiyun suddenly coughed….cough, cough, cough.
It’s because of the way you’re looking at me, she thought, her unfocused eyes gazing back gloomily.
Ming Shu: “A-Yun?”
She wasn’t sure if it was a delusion, but she seemed to sense a hint of resentment from the person in front of her. Was her gaze too bold?
Su Chuiyun muttered, “It’s too hot in the room.”
Ming Shu glanced at the thermostat it was 23°C (73°F).
Hot?
Ming Shu sat for a while longer before finally standing up with a trace of regret. From the moment she entered the room until she left, her eyes never once wavered from Su Chuiyun. It felt as if there were invisible tentacles in the air, brushing against Su Chuiyun’s finger gaps, tracing her palms, and wrapping around her wrists.
Like a pervert, Su Chuiyun thought. Her benefactor’s love for the original host was much deeper than she had realized.
“I’ll be going now.”
Before leaving, Ming Shu paused and stood directly in front of Su Chuiyun, her tall frame casting a shadow over her.
“Sister?”
The frail girl started, thinking she had been found out. Recalling the details of the host’s blindness, large beads of cold sweat broke out on her forehead.
What greeted her was a cold-scented hug.
Ming Shu leaned down, closed her eyes, and held her with restraint. “I have something to do tomorrow, so I won’t be able to come see you.”
The warm embrace stunned Su Chuiyun. She lifted the hand with the IV needle and placed it on her ex-girlfriend’s shoulder.
Ming Shu spoke with a mix of caution and a desire to please: “Back then, you said I was dull and boring and that’s why you broke up with me. I’ve worked hard these years to become interesting, could you…” Could you give me another chance?
Ming Shu only got halfway through before Su Chuiyun, determined to live a life of leisure on “soft rice,” cut in immediately:
“It wasn’t that you were boring. You were mature and stable. I was just young and didn’t know better. Only with someone like you can I spend a lifetime.”
“Just don’t find me too childish.”
Ming Shu had never experienced such sweet talk. Her body trembled, she took half a step back, and her cold, professional composure crumbled into flustered panic.
“It was just me throwing a tantrum when I broke up with you. I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me, Sister?”
When it came to speaking soft, persuasive words, Su Chuiyun was an expert. Before transmigrating, she was a corporate worker, what kind of corporate speak hadn’t she mastered?
If the young girl had spoken cold words, Ming Shu might have remained calm, but she couldn’t withstand even a small act of submission. To her, it felt like her little sister had suffered so much grievance over these years…
Defeated by the words, Ming Shu hurriedly said she had things to do and rushed out the door, forgetting her handbag and car keys in her panic.
In the narrow stairwell, the woman who was decisive and powerful in the business world covered her face with her hands, her face streaked with tears. No one knew that she was actually prone to crying.
Ming Shu remembered that day five years ago. The spoiled Su Chuiyun had been lazily dangling a cigarette from her mouth.
“Ming Shu, let’s break up. I don’t think I like women that much.”
At that time, Ming Shu was only twenty-one. She had just turned down a chance to study abroad, wanting to build a life with her in the country. Su Chuiyun’s words were like a bolt from the blue.
Ming Shu had forced a smile: “A-Yun, think about it again. You’re just angry right now, right?”
The immature Su Chuiyun had stubbed the cigarette out on Ming Shu’s coat. “Can’t you understand human speech? I only agreed to be with you because we grew up together. Just thinking about you having those thoughts about me all these years makes me feel disgusted.”
Disgusted…
The love she thought she had hidden so well was merely “disgusting” to Su Chuiyun.
Even so, Ming Shu never truly let her go. While studying and starting her business abroad, her phone wallpaper had always remained a photo of her.
“President Ming…” The secretary on the stairs was at a loss; she had never seen her formidable boss cry.
Ming Shu’s eyes were bloodshot. She suppressed the sob in her throat. “Go get the car.”
As she spoke, she habitually reached into her pocket for her car keys. Her pockets were empty, containing only a red velvet ring box. Her handbag, adorned with a silk scarf and a small horse charm, was gone too.
Ming Shu said hoarsely, “I left them in A-Yun’s room. I’ll go get them.”
She hastily wiped away her tears and walked quickly back toward the orthopedic ward in her high heels.
At the end of the hospital corridor, Su Chuiyun sat in her wheelchair. The handbag was on her lap, and she held Ming Shu’s car keys. A very old photo keychain was attached to the keys, a cheap style that clashed with the expensive car.
Su Chuiyun thought her benefactor’s psychological resilience needed some work, she had only said a few sweet things and the woman had fled. Her memory wasn’t great either leaving things behind and forcing a “disabled person” like her to return them.
Seeing Ming Shu walking hurriedly toward her, Su Chuiyun maneuvered the wheelchair faster. “Sister, you left your things.”
Ming Shu looked up sharply. She saw her little sister steadying herself against the wall with one hand while slowly moving the wheelchair with the other, wearing a worried smile.
“You were in such a hurry, you forgot your things.”
Su Chuiyun held out the handbag and keys, putting on a convincing act of a blind person feeling her way.
The slender beauty in the wheelchair asked softly, “Did Sister leave so quickly because she was angry? Did A-Yun say something to upset you?”
Ming Shu tightened her grip on the ring box in her pocket and took Su Chuiyun’s outstretched hand with her own. She tried to keep her voice steady, hiding the nasality from her crying.
“No, I just went to get something.”
“Then… does Sister still want me? Next time, don’t leave without saying goodbye, okay?” Su Chuiyun said with a faint smile.
“I want you. Next time, I won’t leave.”
Ming Shu’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest, every beat thumping against her ribs. She once again committed an act of deception against the little blind girl. She opened the ring box and took out a diamond ring the size of a peanut.
Su Chuiyun felt a cold sensation on her ring finger and almost broke character. “What is this?”
Ming Shu said, “A ring. I bought it abroad. It’s not worth much, just something for you to play with.”
It’s a huge diamond. It felt heavy on her finger and fit perfectly.
Su Chuiyun thought bitterly that if she had worked without eating or drinking starting from the Warring States period, she still wouldn’t have been able to afford this ring in her previous life.
A real benefactor!
The book mentioned that the wealthy “Sister” had returned to the country this time to inherit her family’s estate. Aside from love, enough money could certainly move a person’s heart.
Su Chuiyun was deeply tempted.
Sitting in her wheelchair, she asked dreamily, “Can I really have this?”
Ming Shu smiled. “Yes, keep it.”
Ming Shu admitted to herself that she was being base and shameless. If it weren’t for Su Chuiyun’s poor eyesight, she would never have dared to give her this custom-made diamond ring. On her own ring finger, she wore an identical one.
Ming Shu thought darkly: If we wear the same diamond rings, can we be considered a couple?
She only hoped that when her little sister found out about the ring in the future, she wouldn’t be too angry at the deception.
