After Transmigrating as the Northeast CEO's Pampered Little Husband - Chapter 64
The third day after the new semester started was finally dedicated to getting to know his classmates. Gu Jiaoyang rode his electric scooter, his canvas bag filled with art supplies, to the classroom and found a seat by the window.
The classroom was large, filled with various plaster casts, frames, and easels. The chairs were stacked by the door, allowing students to grab one and sit anywhere on the open floor space in the centre.
The class monitor was chosen at random. Gu Jiaoyang sat on his chair, clutching his canvas bag, and observed groups of students whispering together; they were likely from the same hometown and already quite familiar with each other.
“Hi there, can I sit next to you?”
“Go right ahead.”
Perhaps it was due to Gu Jiaoyang’s striking appearance, but most of the girls in the class ended up sitting around him. After all, a sparkling, sweet-looking person in the sunlight instantly triggered their maternal instincts, and they even lowered their voices when speaking.
This made Gu Jiaoyang feel a little awkward, as he wasn’t very good at interacting with girls. The only female in his master’s lineage had a very outgoing, boyish personality.
The first lesson wasn’t a formal class. The teacher simply gave a rough overview of the class situation and future plans, selected the class representatives, and then walked out with his own art bag, leaving the students to practice on their own.
It seemed every art academy was this ‘Zen.’
The newly elected class monitor was a male student with a cheerful, outgoing personality and a lot to say. As soon as the teacher left, he waved his hands, gathered the surrounding boys, and invited the female students to join a class social later that evening.
As this was the first gathering for the freshman class, Gu Jiaoyang naturally couldn’t refuse. After accepting the invitation, he started stretching his canvas and fiddling with his paints, following the example of the student next to him.
If all went well, their seats would essentially be fixed from now on, and their art materials could just be left in the classroom, saving them the hassle of moving them back and forth.
Gu Jiaoyang didn’t see Qiu Yu. It seemed his cross-dressing housemate must be in Class 2.
When fully absorbed in a task, time always seems to pass quickly. They had morning classes, and in the afternoon, Gu Jiaoyang returned to the dorms to play some games and check out local properties. Soon, it was time for the get-together.
Gu Jiaoyang didn’t make any special effort to dress up; he just threw on the clothes he had worn during the day, grabbed his phone, and headed downstairs with Qiu Yu.
As they talked more, the two became close. Once Gu Jiaoyang overlooked Qiu Yu’s hobby of wearing women’s clothing, he discovered that Qiu Yu was genuinely a helpful little chatterbox. Although his head was full of strange and quirky ideas, this didn’t stop them from becoming good friends, a relationship that went beyond mere classmates.
There weren’t many restaurants near the Changjing Academy of Fine Arts, so they were practically full, mostly with newly starting class groups. Qiu Yu was wearing a dark red dress, his long, wavy hair tied back with a red bow headband. He carried a pale pink, diamond-encrusted small handbag, exuding the elegant aura of a proper young lady.
Gu Jiaoyang was walking right next to Qiu Yu, and since they were close and chatting the whole way, passersby mostly assumed they were a young couple. This lowered the chance of them, both being good-looking people in their respective gender groups, getting approached by others.
“I came with my younger brother. I didn’t think we’d both get into the Changjing Academy of Fine Arts. His scores were a bit lower, but surprisingly few people applied for the Illustration Department this year, so he lucked out.”
Qiu Yu chatted as they walked. Since they were about the same height, and Qiu Yu wasn’t wearing high heels, Gu Jiaoyang didn’t have to look up at him.
“Your brother is Qiu Xue, right? I’ve met him before.” Gu Jiaoyang still had a fairly vivid memory of Qiu Xue, the boy who dropped his journal that night. Crucially, his deep connection to Huang Fugui (the father ghost) made him difficult to forget.
“Oh? You’ve met?”
Qiu Yu was slightly surprised, shielding his mouth with a hand that had a simple, clear manicure, displaying a look of astonishment. Thanks to his naturally beautiful features and his make-up skills, the expression didn’t look awkward at all.
“Yeah, I bumped into him by the little grove near the flowerbed.”
Gu Jiaoyang slowly recounted their meeting over the journal as they walked, and the conversation led them right to the restaurant.
“Oh, that’s right. He’s been having a run of bad luck since he left home. We don’t live together, so I can’t really look after him,” Qiu Yu added, blowing a flirtatious kiss to the handsome waiter at the restaurant entrance.
The moment they stepped inside, they were hit by the bustling atmosphere. Many people were standing near the entrance, mostly acting as guides. Since everyone was new and didn’t know the way, they needed someone to direct them to their private rooms. With limited wait staff, most groups preferred to rely on their classmates’ enthusiasm instead.
“Come on, I’ll propose a toast to the class monitor first!”
Although the students were initially reserved, once the male students started leading the drinking and the atmosphere warmed up, everyone dropped their inhibitions. There were only 16 students in their class nine boys and seven girls drinking together. Gu Jiaoyang sat on the side, smiling, and drank along. After several rounds, he felt no trace of drunkenness.
After all, cultivators could simply use spiritual energy to vaporise the alcohol. Unless they willingly allowed it, no one could get them drunk.
The gathering wasn’t just for classmates. Since the private rooms were booked for the same day, they were mostly neighbours across the hallway. Once the boys got drunk, they started knocking on the doors of the rooms opposite to challenge them to drinking games. This soon escalated into people wandering all over the floor, drinking with students from different departments, turning the entire area into one massive party.
Gu Jiaoyang drank quite a bit, mostly with the girls, who probably wanted to get him drunk so they could talk more and get to know him better. A few male students made some subtle hints, but Gu Jiaoyang politely turned them down by showing them Dai Gucan’s photo on his phone’s lock screen.
Although his mind was full of spicy thoughts, he was principled when it came to his dear boyfriend.
“Phew, that’s a strong smell of alcohol. I should have been more careful next time and just said I don’t drink.”
Near the end of the party, Gu Jiaoyang went to the washroom to splash some cold water on his face. He reeked of alcohol, the spiritual energy having vaporised the beer and spirits outside his body, mixing them into an aura around him. Just smelling it was enough to make one feel slightly tipsy.
Gu Jiaoyang looked at himself in the washroom mirror. Although he wasn’t drunk, his face was quite flushed. However, he wasn’t hot, and after washing with cool water, his colour slowly returned to normal.
Qiu Xue walked into the washroom at that moment, and in the mirror, he instantly saw the student who had returned his journal the other day. He remembered his name was Gu Jiaoyang, and he was in the same department as his brother.
He looked like he had drunk quite a lot; his cheeks were flushed, making him look rather cute. Having just washed his face, beads of water clung to the hair around his face, giving him an inexplicable, fragile beauty that made one’s heart beat faster.
Qiu Xue quickly shook his head to clear the strange feeling, and stepped forward to greet him normally.
“Hi, we meet again, Yangyang. Are you using the loo too?”
After greeting him, Qiu Xue quickly looked down at the pattern on the waterproof mat on the floor. He could already smell the alcohol on the other boy and felt like he was suddenly drunk himself.
Unlike the unpleasant smell of alcohol on drunk people, the scent on the other boy was like fermented fruit or flowers; it was sweet and made him want to take a few more deep breaths.
“Mhm, hello.” Gu Jiaoyang didn’t like being called ‘Yangyang’ by strangers. Even his housemate only called him ‘Little Gu,’ or at most, ‘Gu Xiaoyang’ when they were close. So, he frowned slightly but let it go, considering the other person seemed a little tipsy.
“Well, thank you. Even though I’ve been having bad luck recently, I always seem to be lucky enough to run into you.” Qiu Xue suddenly blurted out this random comment. He himself felt like he must be drunk, as the thought just spilled out of his mouth.
Gu Jiaoyang, confused, put his hands under the hand dryer. The phrasing sounded suspiciously like flirting.
Seemingly realising how abrupt his comment was, Qiu Xue wanted to explain. After hurriedly washing his hands, he stammered, “No, I didn’t mean to flirt. I just wanted to thank you for finding my journal. It had my bank card and passwords for various accounts inside…”
“I’ve been losing a lot of things recently, but that one was the most important…”
Qiu Xue turned off the tap and lowered his head to dry his hands. Because he was in a hurry, he had opened the tap too wide, and the rushing water had splashed spots all over his chest.
That is pretty important, Gu Jiaoyang thought, considering the sensitive information inside the book. He kindly reminded the other boy that such important items should be kept safe.
Qiu Xue responded with an excited look, seeming speechless.
Gu Jiaoyang found this a bit strange but didn’t dwell on it. He simply assumed the other boy was drunk and acting differently from the articulate, engaging person he’d been when they first met.
“Bye.” Gu Jiaoyang said goodbye to Qiu Xue and went to meet up with Qiu Yu, who was almost passed out.
“Ah… I should have run into him somewhere nicer. The washroom isn’t exactly romantic.”
Qiu Xue stood in the hallway, rubbing his eyes as Gu Jiaoyang’s figure disappeared under the bright wall lamp, sighing regretfully.
He was truly handsome, and being near him felt so comfortable. It made one instinctively want to talk.
Perhaps the heavy smell of alcohol on the other boy had made him tipsy, but after talking for a while, his mind was totally preoccupied with the other man’s face.
“I probably lost some points.”
Qiu Xue covered his face, wondering if he had left a poor first impression on his new classmate.
Since he was in the same department as his brother, he figured they would have plenty of time to slowly get to know each other!
His first university friend! You can do it, Qiu Xue!
Qiu Xue gave himself a pep talk, managing a rare smile despite his recent string of bad luck.
If Gu Jiaoyang had known, he would probably have scoffed that the reason Qiu Xue felt comfortable near him was simply that his spiritual energy was temporarily driving away some of the bad luck inflicted by Huang Fugui the father ghost.
However, fate has a funny way of working out.
