- Chapter 75 - Night at Mount Leiming and the "Maid" Trap
As night fell, the group finally arrived safely at Mount Leiming.
The Thunder Fist SectΒ was a pillar of the martial world, a renowned orthodox sect. No one objected to them hosting the Martial Arts Alliance Meeting. At the mountain gate, a young disciple swallowed hard as he looked at the twenty-odd black-clad “assassins” standing before him.
“May I ask which sect you are from?”
The experts of the Martial Commandery cupped their hands. “Longyao Pavilion.”
“Longyao Pavilion?” The disciple blinked. “What is your relationship with the Dragon ShadowΒ (Longying) Pavilion?”
“Longyao is Longyao. What could we possibly have to do with those people?” a young expert said brashly. “Haven’t you heard rumors of the organization killing corrupt officials lately? That was us!”
Realizing these were the “righteous assassins” everyone was talking about, the disciple hurriedly handed over their identity plaques. The Eldest Princess, her face veiled, led her squad into the sect with an imposing air that drew immediate attention.
“Assassins… always hiding their faces,” some muttered. “They call themselves Longyao Pavilion? If they’re killers, they might as well just ask Dragon Shadow to give up their name.”
The imperial experts, unused to being discussed like zoo animals, glared back. The gossips immediately shut their mouths.
“Don’t cause trouble. Let’s go,” a voice commanded. “Yes!” the experts replied instinctively.
Only then did they realize the speaker wasn’t the Princess, but their newest memberβthe stunning Miss Zhong. Under her veil, her presence was even more overwhelming than that of the trained guards.
The Secret Letter and the Jealous Consort
After reaching their quarters in the North Wing, the experts fanned out to gather intel. Their mission: find the Dragon Shadow Pavilionβs leader within 24 hours.
Inside the room, Zhong Ying ground ink while Zhu Xingtong wrote a swift note. “Qiu Qin.”
A shadow dropped from the rafters. It was Qiu Qin, the Princess’s personal maid. Unknown to most, she was the leader of the Shadow Guards, a secret unit founded by the late Empress Wan.
“How long to return to the capital?” “One day and one night, Highness.” “Deliver this to Jing Rui personally. If anyone else sees it… kill without mercy.”
As Qiu Qin took the note, she glanced warily at the silent Zhong Ying before vanishing out the window.
“Your shadow guard has a grudge against me,” Zhong Ying remarked. Once they were alone, she didn’t hesitateβshe scooped Zhu Xingtong up and sat her on the edge of the bed.
Zhu Xingtong realized her Baby was… sulking! After “two lifetimes” together, she knew this woman perfectly.
“Sheβs hostile to me,” Zhong Ying emphasized, rubbing her face against Zhu Xingtongβs neck.
“Isn’t it because youΒ have a grudge against her?” Zhu Xingtong collapsed backward onto the bed. “Baby, be reasonable. Qiu Qin told me sheβs never comfortable on the rafters because you’re always glaring at her with actual killing intent. It terrifies her.”
The problem was that Qiu Qin had watched Zhong Ying master a lifetime’s worth of martial arts in seven days. To a professional guard, Zhong Ying was now a terrifying anomaly. Plus, Qiu Qin felt like a literal third wheel (or a very bright lamp) during their private moments.
“I don’t like her watching you from the rafters,” Zhong Ying whispered, nibbling the Princessβs lip. “Maybe she sees you changing clothes. I can’t tolerate that.”
“But she’s a shadow guard…”
“Can’t IΒ be your shadow guard?” Zhong Yingβs voice dropped. “Zhu Bao, are you saying I can’t?”
Zhu Xingtong, feeling playful, teased: “You can’t.”
Zhong Yingβs eyes darkened. “Zhu Bao, you’re finished.” Before the Princess could react, she was carried out toward the courtyard.
“Baby! Where are we going?!” “The courtyard,” Zhong Ying smiled. “What for?!” “To ‘do’ you.”
Zhu Xingtongβs eyes went wide. “You’re joking! The boys will be back any minute! We can’t do something so… stimulating out here! What if they hear?!”
Zhong Yingβs grip was like iron. “Then let them hear.”
The Dragon Shadow’s Scheme
In a darker room far to the North, the elders of the Dragon Shadow PavilionΒ and their leader, Jiang Qi, were gathered in a grim atmosphere.
“The assassination failed. We lost Elder Chen and forty men,” Jiang Qi snarled.
“Leader, we misjudged them. But we have a deadline from ‘that person’ to keep the Princess out of the palace forever. If we kill her, the Princes will fight over her army, and that’s when we strike.”
“We’ve already lost too many,” an elder noted. “But we have new intel. One of our members posed as a villager and escaped the ambush. She says the Princess has a female ‘attendant’ with herβa stunning woman who doesn’t seem to know martial arts.”
Jiang Qiβs eyes narrowed. “A weak woman?”
“There are rumors the Princess prefers women. This isn’t a maid; she’s likely the Princessβs… plaything. If we kidnap her, we can use her to get to the Princess’s food or catch her off guard.”
“A woman like that is a perfect lever,” Jiang Qi decided, slamming his hand on the table. “Send our best men. Capture the ‘maid’ alive and bring her to me without alerting the guards!”
