- Chapter 7 - The Linxu Realm · The Great War of Gods and Demons (Part 2)
Feng Ling had clearly underestimated her brother’s ambition and overestimated his affection for her. There was no room in Feng Yuan’s heart for the plight of the common people; what would he not do for his own ambition? While Yuan Ruochen had no desire for war, Feng Yuan certainly did, though he did not act in haste, preferring instead to orchestrate a grander scheme.
On the surface, the two sides settled into a period of stability. When Yuan Ruochen and Feng Ling entered into their bond, Feng Yuan even sent people to deliver congratulatory gifts. Everyone believed that the Divine/Immortal and Demon/Monster clans had finally joined in marriage and would live in peace—even Yuan Ruochen was fooled.
It wasn’t until three hundred years later, after Yuan Ruochen and Feng Ling had a child, that Feng Yuan finally made his move.
When the young Golden Crow was three hundred years old, Yuan Ruochen hosted a banquet for guests. Feng Yuan sent people as well, bearing many treasures, and Yuan Ruochen saw no reason to refuse. He believed Feng Yuan would never dare to stir up trouble on his own territory.
He was proven wrong. Feng Yuan’s agents lured the young Golden Crow away from the Demon/Monster Realm. Being a child, the young Golden Crow was playful, and with so many guests present, no one noticed he had slipped away.
Feng Yuan had prepared a two-pronged plan: first, he lured the Eastern Emperor, Yuan Ruoshen, away; then, he trapped both Yuan Ruochen and Feng Ling. Feng Yuan would never tolerate his nephew being the offspring of his enemy; he never intended to let the young Golden Crow live. He threw the child directly into the Abyss of Netherworld.
The Abyss of Netherworld was a forbidden zone deep within the Underworld. Once a living being stepped foot inside, their Primordial Spirit would be extinguished by the nether energy within a few days. The Abyss had originally been a place for imprisoning ancient primeval beasts creatures without Primordial Spirits that knew only slaughter, which the Abyss was uniquely designed to restrain. One could only imagine how perilous the Abyss was.
Feng Yuan still retained a sliver of conscience for his younger sister and did not intend for her to die. When he lured Feng Ling over, his men, who had been lying in ambush within the Underworld, captured her. Feng Ling begged Feng Yuan through tears to save her child, but he coldly told her the young Golden Crow had been cast into the Abyss of Netherworld. Feng Ling felt as though the heavens had collapsed.
Feng Yuan was in no rush to take Feng Ling away; his true target was Yuan Ruochen. Sure enough, once Yuan Ruochen discovered Feng Ling was missing, he immediately sent men to search for her. Misled, he received word that Feng Ling was in the Underworld. He rushed there, only to be ambushed by Feng Yuan’s forces. Seeing that Feng Ling was unharmed, he felt a brief sense of relief.
Yuan Ruochen fought off those holding Feng Ling captive, but seeing her face filled with such grief, a bad premonition arose in his heart. “What happened?” he asked.
Feng Ling’s voice trembled. “Little Yuanchen… has been thrown into the Abyss of Netherworld.”
In that instant, the world spun for Yuan Ruochen. As he was overcome with profound agony, Feng Yuan launched a sneak attack. Feng Ling threw herself in front of Yuan Ruochen, and because her cultivation was not high, Feng Yuan’s strike delivered with his full magical power killed her instantly.
Watching his wife and child die before his eyes, Yuan Ruochen’s mind completely shattered. Feng Yuan himself was stunned for a long time after accidentally killing his sister.
Yuan Ruochen roared in madness, “She was your own sister! How could you bring yourself to do this!”
Feng Yuan did not know what to make of his own feelings. Before he became the master of the Divine Realm, he had loved this sister dearly. But when had things changed? He did not know. He had been gradually blinded by power and desire until he could see nothing else. And now, he had killed his own sister with his own hands.
As if to console himself, Feng Yuan muttered, “The moment she abandoned the Divine Realm, she was no longer my sister.”
Yuan Ruochen could not believe it. “You are truly cold-blooded!”
From there, things spiraled out of control. The two fought until the heavens grew dark and the earth trembled. But with so many men lying in ambush around them, Yuan Ruochen was eventually overwhelmed by the group and suffered severe, life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, at the critical moment, Yuan Ruoshen arrived to rescue him.
Yuan Ruochen, heavily injured and having lost both wife and child, was dealt a crushing blow. Upon returning to the Demon/Monster Realm, he went into seclusion to heal, leaving Yuan Ruoshen to take over his affairs. From that day on, the Demon/Monster Realm and the Divine/Immortal Realm were officially at war.
Upon learning of this, Yan Qinyu was incandescent with rage. He broke all ties with Feng Yuan and refused to involve himself in the Divine Realm’s war any longer. If a man could discard even his own sister, what would he not do? He feared that if he continued to work with such a cold-blooded wretch, he would one day be schemed against and lose his own life.
The war between the Divine and Demon realms spread far and wide, leaving the world in ruin. Yan Qinyu could not stop it, so he wandered the six realms, often providing aid to the beings caught in the wake of the conflict. Yuan Ruochen remained in seclusion to heal, leaving Yuan Ruoshen to lead the troops.
Feng Yuan did not know the meaning of restraint. During the decisive battle, casualties were countless. Feng Yuan had somehow obtained a treasure of immense malice and toxicity; catching Yuan Ruoshen off guard, it inflicted severe wounds upon him. Facing capture, Yuan Ruoshen did not spare Feng Yuan. At the final moment, he sacrificed his companion magic weapon—the Chaos Bell—and detonated it. The blast left Feng Yuan on the brink of death, clinging to life by a single breath.
With both leaders severely wounded, the great war finally came to an end. Yuan Ruoshen was sucked into a spatial passage torn open by the detonation of the Chaos Bell and transported to an unknown location. The people of the Demon/Monster Realm searched everywhere for traces of him, while the Divine Realm recovered Feng Yuan, doing their utmost to save him. After the war, the Linxu Realm was a scarred wasteland, filled with the energy of catastrophe and suffering profound losses.
Gu Yun felt a wave of melancholy. “That Feng Yuan is truly inhuman. He really is cold-blooded, scheming against even his own sister.”
Yan Qinyu sneered, “For the sake of his ambition, what is there that he would not do? Had I not been careless back then, believing his lies, I would never have been forced to detonate my Primordial Spirit.”
Gu Yun gasped in shock. “You were schemed against by him too?”
Indignant, Gu Yun continued to ask, “And then? What happened? Was Feng Yuan saved? Why were you schemed against by him?”
Yan Qinyu’s acquaintance with Yuan Ruoshen began after this great war. Once the battle concluded and the Eastern Emperor vanished, Yuan Ruochen was forced to emerge from seclusion despite his grievous wounds to command the two realms and pacify the people. He sent men to search for his younger brother, but it was like searching for a needle in a haystack; after a long time, there was no word. Yuan Ruochen expanded the search, for having lost his wife and child, he could not afford to lose his brother as well.
The heavily injured Yuan Ruoshen had fallen onto the continent at the border between the Immortal and Mortal realms. The forces there were complex and chaotic, making it very difficult for Yuan Ruochen’s men to find him. At the same time, the Divine Realm was also dispatching people to find Yuan Ruoshen, naturally with the intent to eradicate the threat once and for all. If the Demon/Monster Realm lost its Eastern Emperor, the heavily injured Yuan Ruochen would be much easier to deal with. It was well-known that one Yuan Ruoshen could suppress four powerhouses of the same level; his importance was beyond question.
Passing through the area, Yan Qinyu happened to find Yuan Ruoshen lying unconscious by the water’s edge and brought him back to save him. At the time, he did not know the man was the Eastern Emperor of the Demon/Monster Realm; he merely assumed he was an innocent soul caught in the wake of the war. Seeing that the man bore no aura of sin beyond the karmic forces of the tribulation, but rather a gentle, benevolent air—along with a trace of merit and destiny—he knew he was not a wicked man and assumed he must have a remarkable background. However, it never occurred to him that the man was the Demon Emperor; the Linxu Realm was vast, and Yan Qinyu did not know everyone.
Thus, he took the man back to treat him. Yuan Ruoshen’s injuries were too severe, and his cultivation was temporarily lost; his state was truly horrific. Yan Qinyu dressed his wounds and bandaged them. Seeing that his internal injuries were critical, he continuously channeled spiritual energy into Yuan Ruoshen, stopping only when he saw his condition improve. He gathered medicinal herbs, brought out a pill furnace, and began to refine healing pills. Once they were finished, he changed the dressings on Yuan Ruoshen’s wounds according to the timing.
After days of care, Yuan Ruoshen finally awoke. Lying on the bed, he slowly opened his eyes, a look of confusion in them; he could not tell what time or day it was.
