- Chapter 6 - The Linxu Realm · The Great War of Gods and Demons (Part 1)
In truth, Yan Qinyu and Yuan Ruoshen only became acquainted after the first Great War of Gods and Demons in the Linxu Realm.
Before that war, the Linxu Realm was home to a multitude of clans; it had not yet been fully divided into the Six Realms. Instead, it comprised six vast territories, and the various clans remained a disorganized, scattered mess. This situation led to frequent outbreaks of conflict between the clans. These conflicts, however, were confined to the other five territories; the Underworld Territory was an exception.
The Underworld Territory, which would later become the Underworld Realm, governed the cycle of reincarnation. Protected by the rules established by the Heavenly Dao, a consensus had formed among all: the Underworld Territory was not to be touched. Thus, it remained excluded from the turmoil.
As tens of thousands of years passed, the conflicts between the clans intensified, eventually erupting into several large-scale wars. It was not until a large number of innate beings took form and wandered the world that an effort began to integrate the myriad clans. Two innate deities, born of the Sun Star, pacified the Demon and Monster territories, establishing the Demon and Monster Realms. These two deities were Yuan Ruoshen and Yuan Ruochen.
They were innate beings Three-Legged Golden Crows possessing the nature of both gods and demons. With the natural aura of emperors, it was their destiny to unify the Demon and Monster Realms. Yuan Ruochen was the elder brother, and Yuan Ruoshen was the younger; they worked in tandem, ruling over both realms together. Once Yuan Ruochen ascended as Emperor, Yuan Ruoshen became the Eastern Emperor.
As the Demon and Monster sides were being integrated, the same occurred in the Immortal and Divine territories. An innate being named Feng Yuan, born of colored clouds, established the Divine and Immortal Realms after integrating the two, ruling over them alongside his younger sister, Feng Ling.
Feng Yuan harbored great ambitions, intending to unify the entire Linxu Realm. This, however, was nothing short of a pipe dream a farce. Among the gods and great beings, there was a shared consensus: no matter how heaven-defying your cultivation might be, you had to abide by the rules. The world had achieved a balance where the realms were interconnected, allowing for cooperation, but unification was impossible. No one wanted someone else looming over their heads. Furthermore, did he even have the qualifications or the ability to unify them? The Linxu Realm was vast, home to countless hidden experts and intricately intertwined factions. Without the strength to suppress all, one had no right to speak of unification.
The Underworld was especially critical. If the Underworld were unified as well, wouldn’t that mean holding the power of life, death, and reincarnation for the entire Linxu Realm? No one would permit such a situation. After Feng Yuan initially became arrogant, he was warned by several powerhouses. Realizing the impossibility of his goal, he quieted down, though he decided that if he could not interfere with the Underworld, unifying the other five realms would suffice.
His logic was sound: as long as he did not touch the Underworld, the great beings would not care what he did, provided he did not provoke them. Thus, the two opposing forces—the Divine/Immortal and the Demon/Monster were formed. They clashed countless times, both large and small, with no clear victor.
Yan Qinyu had taken form and entered the world one hundred years before the Great War of Gods and Demons. As an innate being a form manifested from a mass of pure energy he possessed immense power. After taking form, he was invited by Feng Yuan to join the Divine Realm. In the heat of a great battle, he made a name for himself and was granted the title of “Emperor of the Northern Alliance.”
Yan Qinyu was gentle by nature. Despite his immense power, he loathed seeing the endless strife between the Divine and Demon factions that left the world in ruin. To his knowledge, it was Feng Yuan who consistently initiated the aggression. Yan Qinyu had once questioned Feng Yuan’s motives. Upon learning the truth, he could not agree with Feng Yuan’s actions, which were less about confidence and more about delusional arrogance. Though he didn’t want to speak too bluntly, he offered a few tactful words of caution.
Feng Yuan paid him no heed, and his subsequent behavior became increasingly excessive and arrogant, causing the low-level beings in the Divine and Immortal Realms to suffer immensely. Sensing the severity of the situation, Yan Qinyu tried to persuade him many times, but Feng Yuan remained obstinate a complete lunatic. Why be so manic? Yan Qinyu wondered. The other side isn’t provoking you, and you don’t have the capacity to unify the six realms. Isn’t peaceful coexistence better?
To harbor ambition without the capacity to match it was nothing but a joke. Yet, Feng Yuan remained stubbornly confident. Yan Qinyu could do nothing. Moreover, Feng Yuan had gathered many confidants who were eager to wage war against the Demon and Monster side; it wasn’t something Yan Qinyu could discourage, and if he offended them, he would be the one to suffer.
Thereafter, he ceased participating in the wars between the two sides. While Feng Yuan was dissatisfied, he said nothing; their strengths were comparable, and he had no desire to offend Yan Qinyu. The two maintained a pretense of ignorance, neither capable of overpowering the other, and Feng Yuan simply chose to ignore Yan Qinyu. After the two sides had warred for several hundred years, a brief period of calm settled in.
…
During this interim, Feng Yuan’s sister, Feng Ling, met Yuan Ruochen. Neither knew the other’s true identity. After spending time together, they grew fond of each other. Later, when Yuan Ruochen revealed his identity, Feng Ling did the same. Both were surprised by the revelation.
They had expected to part ways, but instead, Feng Ling told Yuan Ruochen, “A-Chen, you need not worry. Given the current tension between the Demon/Monster realms and the Divine/Immortal realms, why don’t we form a marriage alliance? It could ease the tensions between our sides.”
Feng Ling continued, “I will send a message to my brother, telling him that we are in love. How about we sign a peace treaty between our two sides?”
Feng Ling sent the message first. After much deliberation, Yuan Ruochen also sent a formal greeting to Feng Yuan, informing him that he intended to marry Feng Ling. He proposed an alliance to end the war, turning hostility into friendship and maintaining peace in the Linxu Realm. Essentially, he was telling Feng Yuan: You rule your Immortal/Divine Realm, I will rule mine, and we shall live in peace, minding our own business.
It was a clear and rational approach. Yuan Ruochen’s intentions were simple: he only wanted to integrate the myriad clans to provide a peaceful and stable dwelling for the beings of the Demon and Monster Realms. With a lover by his side, a plain, peaceful life was far better. He wasn’t bored; he had no interest in fighting wars every day and being constantly harassed. Before this, the clans had been locked in constant conflict, causing countless casualties the beings were truly suffering, and yet, no one had been able to unify them. Yuan Ruochen had the ambition, the strength, and the status of an innate god, which was why the clans had not resisted when he reorganized the Monster clan. As for the Demon clan, they had been subdued by Yuan Ruoshen.
Yuan Ruochen had indeed once considered unifying the Linxu Realm, but after several bouts of contemplation, he realized it was unrealistic, impractical, and a thankless task. How vast was the Linxu Realm? Even if he managed to unify it, without the strength to back it up, could he manage it all? To truly unify the Linxu Realm, one would have to be a true Emperor-level powerhouse with the capacity to suppress all dissent. Without attaining the Emperor realm, true control was impossible.
The Linxu Realm had many hidden powerhouses far more than the surface suggested and many reclusive experts were “Quasi-Emperors.” If one only looked at the surface, one wouldn’t even know how they died. Though Yuan Ruochen was at the peak of the Quasi-Emperor level, he did not dare claim to be the strongest. That was why he said unifying the Linxu Realm was unrealistic.
Feng Yuan, however, possessed a delusional level of confidence. Although he showed no immediate signs of touching the Underworld, he was merely waiting. Once the other five realms were in his grasp, would he not set his sights on the Underworld? The great beings of the Linxu Realm clearly understood this, but as long as Feng Yuan did not overreach, they turned a blind eye.
In truth, no one believed Feng Yuan could actually unify the Linxu Realm. The maintenance of balance was the true path. If Feng Yuan ever truly provoked them, they would see if they could tolerate it or, if he really did unify the five realms, they would see if those hidden Quasi-Emperor powerhouses could sit idly by.
Feng Yuan had provoked Yuan Ruochen many times, and naturally, Yuan Ruochen was not a pushover; he had caused Feng Yuan plenty of trouble. Blinded by power and ambition, Feng Yuan’s arrogance had overtaken him, and he cared for nothing else. Upon receiving the message of Yuan Ruochen’s proposal, Feng Yuan was so furious he laughed. Seeing that his own sister had “betrayed” him, his anger only deepened.
