After the Zerg General Was Accidentally Marked - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Time Stop
The food Walter hated most was fried eggs.
That year he was only 14, having just completed his second differentiation. After testing at an S-grade mental power level, he was sent by his family to a high-level military academy for military females.
One day during a school holiday, he was specifically summoned back to the main residence by his high-rank father. It happened that he had taken first place in a recent major assessment; he thought his father had called him home to reward him and was somewhat flattered.
But his father didn’t say a single word of praise upon seeing him. He simply brought out a tray containing a freshly fried egg.
“Eat it,” his father commanded.
His father had never cared about his diet, so the naive young Walter thought this was the reward. He picked up his knife and fork and finished the fried egg in a few bites. The egg was cooked tender and delicious, truly tasty.
He wiped his mouth, rested his hands on his knees, and sat with a straight back, striving to maintain the rigorous etiquette expected of a cub from a prominent family, waiting for his father’s further instructions.
The head of the Maud family, who had always been known for his beauty and ruthlessness, simply stared at him for a while. Finally, he gave a light, airy praise. “So obedient” and left.
Just as Walter was feeling happy about receiving rare praise from his father, his female father rushed out from nowhere. The once-sturdy military female was barely clothed, with undried bloodstains on his shins, eyes red, and an expression that could be described as hideous.
The former Major General did not recognize Walter as his only military female cub. Amidst Walter’s surprised smile and greeting, the father pinned him to the ground, squeezing his neck hard and asking: “Where is the egg? Where is my egg?!”
Then, the female father saw the tray nearby. A few scraps of fried egg remained inside. He immediately let out a wail of grief, released Walter’s neck, and instead pried open his mouth, beginning to claw at his throat: “Spit it out! Spit out my insect egg!!!”
It wasn’t until his high-rank father’s subordinates dragged the female father away that Walter, lying on the floor coughing incessantly, gradually regained his senses.
Insect egg…? What… insect egg? His female father’s… insect egg?!!!
As if a bolt of lightning had surged through his body, Walter shuddered, finally understanding the reason for his female father’s violent reaction.
He had just unknowingly eaten his own unhatched brother!
The 14-year-old Walter tilted his head and threw up with a wah.
From then on, Walter hated fried eggs. Not only could he not eat them, but even seeing them made his stomach churn.
After Everett left, Walter also got up quickly and walked into the restroom. The moment he closed the stall door, he clutched the toilet and vomited.
Almost all high-ranks preferred eating live food; he hadn’t expected Everett to actually choose fried eggs.
After coming out of the stall and doing a simple cleaning, Walter scrubbed his hands under cold water, then carefully smoothed back a few stray strands of blond hair in the mirror.
Everett was a goal he had meticulously screened. A young little high-rank with no money, no power, and no background. Yet he carried the hollow prestige of the Langston family name, making him perfect to be his titular high-rank master.
Although this meeting was somewhat unpleasant and the other proved unexpectedly not to be a pushover, with a little application of methods, the little high-rank would soon relent.
Next, he just needed to keep a closer eye on him. Soon, he would successfully get the little high-rank into his hands and obtain the needed pheromones.
Nothing could kill him, Walter Maud. Not his female father, not his family, and not the cruel wars. Nor could the current drop in mental power grade.
He would always find an opportunity. To survive tenaciously.
Walter stared at the blond, blue-eyed young military female in the mirror, curving the corners of his mouth into a perfect smile: “May the Empire prosper.”
Unlike Walter’s satisfaction, Everett, who was heading home on the other side, was clearly in a terrible mood.
Arriving downstairs at the apartment, only Little Dummy greeted him, spraying a bunch of colorful paper ribbons from his arm: “Congratulations, Master!”
“Your judgment was correct! Based on a comprehensive data analysis of 16 cameras around the date location, Solas and Bigu appeared nearby in disguise and observed 65% of the latter half of the date. They are currently estimated to be on their way back.”
Before attending the date, this was the only thing Everett cared about, but now he only gave a soft hum in response.
Moreover, the word “camera” sparked a connection in Everett’s mind.
“Little Dummy,” Everett summoned his robot butler and opened the photos Walter had shown him, which had been saved in advance. “Can you reverse-calculate the position of the camera from the shooting angle?”
They quickly found the camera that had taken the photos. It was right in front of the apartment building—the kind of camera ubiquitous in a highly informatized high-rank society. It wasn’t even installed specifically to monitor him. It was simply because Walter, as the highest military officer on the transit star, had the authority to view all camera records.
Everett directed Little Dummy to dismantle the camera, brushed the dust off it, and stared at it for a while.
Then—crack! He threw the camera to the ground and stomped on it hard! The fragile electronic components were destroyed just like that.
About ten minutes after Everett arrived home, Solas and Bigu also returned.
The military female carried the little cub in his arms; the cub was holding a lollipop. Both insects looked happy. Clearly, they didn’t know the specific details of the conversation during the date.
“How was the date?” Sears put down the cub and asked the little high-rank.
Everett, sitting in the shadow of the sofa, glanced up at him upon hearing the voice and forced a faint smile.
Sears noticed the little high-rank’s expression was off. He stopped smiling, sent Bigu to his own room, and closed the door. He asked again: “What happened on the date?”
Everett asked listlessly and vulnerably: “Can I hold you?”
Something was wrong. Was he bullied? Could Walter actually bully a little high-rank in public?
Regardless, Sears generously offered his chest. The little high-rank immediately buried himself in his embrace; looking down, one could only see a fluffy head. Like some small animal lacking a sense of security.
“What on earth happened?”
A muffled voice came from his chest: “Do you think I’m useless?” “I don’t want to be the Emperor, and I can’t even protect you guys…”
Sears felt something was off. “Wait, what do you mean by ‘can’t protect us’?”
Everett paused, then rubbed against his chest again. “It’s like this…” Then, in a slow and aggrieved tone, he recounted the conversation between him and Walter at the restaurant.
After listening carefully, Sears finally understood the reason for the little high-rank’s reaction.
“Don’t worry. On this planet, there probably isn’t a military female who can defeat me.” “If you’re worried about Bigu, we can have him stay at home for now and not let him go to school.”
And so, the little cub who had just decided to study hard was forced to take a leave of absence at home.
“Don’t worry too much. I know Walter. Although he is… he wouldn’t do something as extreme as killing the innocent.”
“So you think he’s actually bluffing and trying to scare me?” The little high-rank looked up.
“Most likely.”
“Then regarding the truth of the ship explosion and fire, do you think it might also be…?”
“That’s hard to say. I might need to check the military system. Just leave it to me.”
Everett was stunned. “Does a janitor also have the authority to check things in the military system?”
Sears said: “Don’t you know there’s something called ‘comradeship’?” “And haven’t you also started checking the Magic Lamp Company’s financial problems as a doorman?”
“Mine was…” Mentioning the Magic Lamp Company, Everett suddenly felt a bit guilty. “Going through the back door.”
“I’m about the same.”
Seeing that the little high-rank’s emotions had mostly recovered, Sears reminded him: “Shouldn’t you let go of me now?”
Everett immediately hugged him back tighter. “I’ll tell you a secret.” “I can stop time.”
“What?”
“The first time was during the cargo ship accident. You told me to press the emergency stop button to save you. I had originally failed. But at the moment the countdown hit zero, my mental power instinctively surged out and enveloped the ship, and then time inside… suddenly stopped! I pressed the emergency stop in that stopped time, which was how I saved you in time.”
“Later, after arriving at the transit star, I’ve been training this ability of mine. Like this!”
As Everett spoke, he picked up a kumquat fruit from the table and tossed it into the air, then immediately extended his mental power—
A mass of invisible mental power quickly enveloped the airborne fruit. The light at the edges distorted slightly, as if a transparent bubble surrounded the fruit, and in the next instant, it was frozen in mid-air!
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
After five seconds, Everett retracted his hand, and the fruit fell again, rolling into a corner.
“I even gave this skill a name. Because it can stop time, I named it…” While Sears was picking up the kumquat, Everett continued: “Za Warudo!”
Sears put the fruit back in the bowl, looking confused: “What?”
“Za Warudo it means ‘The World’.”
“Then why not just call it ‘The World’?”
Under Sears’ protest, they eventually named Everett’s time-stopping mental power skill: Amber.
They experimented with the skill using other objects—buttons, spoons, coins, even half a bottle of pouring water. It proved that Everett could indeed stop time within his mental power, rather than just freezing an object in place.
Sears showed no expression on the surface, but he couldn’t suppress his inner excitement. Stopping time—what a powerful weapon that would be in combat!
Even if Everett wasn’t skilled enough yet and didn’t have enough mental power to stop anything but small objects, it wasn’t hard to imagine that in time, he could stop larger things a starship, a city, or even an entire planet, an entire galaxy!!!
Perhaps one day, if he wished, the universe would also be under his complete control!
He had thought Everett became the Emperor in the previous life because of his intelligence or other traits, but he hadn’t expected it was pure mental power talent that gave him the most powerful weapon!
No insect can defeat time!
After experimenting with Amber on many objects, Sears asked curiously: “Have you tried it on living beings? For example, other insects?”
Everett shook his head. “I’ve only tried it on some small animals; I haven’t tried it on other insects.”
“Try it on me?”
“That’s not very appropriate.”
“Didn’t we try it on the ship? It shows it’s at least not dangerous. Try and see if you can stop my time.”
Under Solas’s permission and encouragement, Everett finally extended his mental power toward him.
The military female was enveloped in his mental power, then completely stilled at the moment the skill was activated. No breathing, no heartbeat, no movement he just stood there quietly, obediently, and unable to resist.
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
Everett suddenly realized one thing: he could do anything to the military female right now, and it wouldn’t be noticed.
Touching, kissing, even…
His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he couldn’t help but take a step forward.
