- Chapter 89 - Another Way to Find Someone
“I never blamed you. I only blame myself for not being thoughtful enough back then. I stayed away for so long and broke your heart.”
“?!”
Ai Ziqing snapped his eyes open. “Luo Mu? You’re awake?”
He instinctively tried to withdraw the hand he had wrapped around Luo Mu’s waist, but Luo Mu pinned it down.
Luo Mu’s palm was burning hot; clearly, his fever hadn’t broken yet. Ai Ziqing’s heart ached for him, so he didn’t even have the will to struggle. However…
“How much of what I just said did you hear?”
It was meant to be a stern question, but Ai Ziqing’s gentle voice was now tinged with panic and nervousness.
“Not much.” Luo Mu hesitated for a second before answering softly, “Alright, I heard everything.”
Not much, but everything?
“So you were awake just now?” Ai Ziqing spoke through gritted teeth. “You were pretending to sleep just to listen to me talk? Luo Mu, why are you so annoying?”
But secretly, Ai Ziqing felt a wave of relief. Fortunately, Luo Mu had only heard his words and didn’t know how he had actually administered the medicine. Ai Ziqing was thin-skinned; he could handle basic embarrassment, but if Luo Mu knew about that, he would have been so mortified that he would have forced his way out of the room no matter what.
“Ziqing, you just said you forgave me. I heard it, so…”
Luo Mu coughed twice, still clearly unwell, but he firmly tightened his embrace. His low, raspy voice, affected by the illness, sounded almost like he was acting spoiled.
“So, you can’t push me away anymore.”
Ai Ziqing gritted his teeth in frustration. But now that everything was out in the open and he was facing a sick Luo Mu, he truly couldn’t bring himself to be cruel and push him away. Whether it was pain brought by the outside world or the suffering they had brought upon themselves through their choices, both he and Luo Mu had suffered enough.
It was enough, so…
“Luo Mu, you really are an idiot. An irredeemable one.”
Reaching back, Ai Ziqing took Luo Mu’s overly hot hand in his and gave the man’s fingertips a firm but gentle squeeze.
“I won’t push you away. You’re still sick, and I have to take care of you, so I’m definitely not leaving. You can relax and get some rest.”
“As for the messy accounts between us, once you’re better, we will settle them slowly, one, by, one.”
“Then I have one more question I want to ask. Ziqing, are we still family?”
Luo Mu’s voice was deep, but it carried a hidden trace of hope. It was a question he had clearly wanted to ask for a very long time.
“What kind of question is that? We have always been family. We were in the past, we are now, and we will be in the future.”
Family members might have disagreements, they might fight, or they might be separated for a while. But family is always family. Even if they drift apart, no matter how thick the fog, they will always find their way back to each other in the end.
Luo Mu nodded. This cold, powerful CEO obediently closed his eyes. This time, his brow was no longer furrowed; he looked completely at peace.
With everything settled, Ai Ziqing’s heart relaxed. Drowsiness began to wash over him, so he snuggled against Luo Mu and fell into a peaceful sleep. This was the most restful sleep either of them had enjoyed in years.
After dinner, the sky had turned completely dark.
Shen Ran was lounging peacefully in the passenger seat, content to let Cheng Yi act as his chauffeur. He rubbed his slightly protruding stomach and smacked his lips. “Cheng Yi, I think I can really eat too much. I don’t know why, but I feel so happy the moment I start eating.”
“Is that so?” Cheng Yi joked while driving. “Not bad. My house just happens to be missing a rice bucket. Having you around makes me feel very secure.”
Cheng Yi called him a rice bucket!
But he couldn’t bring himself to be angry at all because he felt the same way about himself. So, Shen Ran patted his belly with satisfaction. “Fine, then please call me ‘Boss Rice’ from now on.”
After a long day of chaos, it was late by the time they got home. As they parked and headed up, Shen Ran didn’t forget to grab his pack of tissues.
But seeing Cheng Yi holding the phone he had won at the annual meeting, Shen Ran suddenly thought of that beautiful older sister attached to Chen Xu’s back. Previously, she had told him, “Help me,” and today at the Shen Group, she had pointed upward toward the ceiling. Although he hadn’t understood her meaning at the time—since there was nothing on the ceiling—she must have been trying to convey some information.
Deep down, Shen Ran felt that her hint was very important. Unfortunately, she seemed tethered to Chen Xu’s back and couldn’t leave. They could only catch brief glimpses of each other and couldn’t communicate properly.
Looking at the phone in Cheng Yi’s hand, Shen Ran had a sudden stroke of genius.
The phone! Maybe… maybe there actually is a way!
“Cheng Yi!”
Shen Ran suddenly called out excitedly, grabbing Cheng Yi’s arm with glowing eyes. “You remember I told you I was reborn, right? You remember, right?”
Cheng Yi replied helplessly, “I’m only twenty-six. I haven’t reached the age of ‘Grandpa Cheng’ forgetfulness yet. Do you think I have the memory of a goldfish?”
“As long as you remember! Quick, come here, I have something to show you!”
He pulled Cheng Yi toward the elevator, pressed the button for the 25th floor, and brought him back to his own apartment.
It had been a while since he had been back to this flat. Everything was exactly as he had left it, though a thin layer of dust had settled on everything. Even with the bright lights, the place felt a bit lonely and cold.
Of course, even though Shen Ran wasn’t living here, little Xiao Dong was still staying here for the time being. Xiao Dong was a good and obedient child; Shen Ran had told him to stay home and not wander off, and he had done exactly that. When Shen Ran opened the door, Xiao Dong ran over happily to greet him.
However, because Cheng Yi was with him, Xiao Dong stood a few steps back, worried about scaring him.
“Hello, Brother. Welcome home!”
Xiao Dong greeted him politely, his clear eyes blinking with a joy he couldn’t hide. His Big Brother Shen Ran hadn’t forgotten him.
Shen Ran’s heart practically melted. Xiao Dong really was such a cute little spirit!
“Hello to you too, Xiao Dong!” Shen Ran replied with a smile before turning to Cheng Yi. “Cheng Yi, can you see him?”
Cheng Yi pursed his lips slightly. Though he couldn’t see anything, he understood Shen Ran’s meaning. “Xiao Dong? No, I can’t see him.”
Shen Ran felt a bit disappointed; Cheng Yi still couldn’t see him. But there was one method he hadn’t tried yet.
He went into his bedroom, opened the bedside drawer, and pulled out that mysterious gold and diamond-encrusted phone that had appeared out of nowhere.
