- After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy!
- Chapter 88 - Don’t Move, I Still Want to Sleep
Unsure if Luo Mu had actually swallowed the pill, Ai Ziqing didn’t dare pull away too quickly.
After all, the line between “administering medicine” and “kissing” was as thin as a veil. His current actions were difficult to define simply.
He kept one hand pressed against the side of Luo Mu’s neck until he felt the man’s Adam’s apple bob. Once he was certain the medicine had been swallowed, he finally pulled his lips away.
“Phew…”
Luo Mu’s eyes remained closed; he still seemed to be in a deep sleep.
Ai Ziqing gently helped Luo Mu lie back down. By now, the temperature of his own face was so high he could feel it radiating heat. He almost wanted to laugh judging by the heat in his cheeks, it was hard to tell which of them was actually the one with the fever.
The room felt stiflingly hot. Why else would he feel so short of breath?
Now that the medicine was in his system, Luo Mu’s fever should gradually subside once the effects kicked in. Ai Ziqing intended to stand up and go outside for some fresh air, but just as he started to rise, a hand suddenly shot out from under the quilt and grabbed him.
A low, groggy voice sounded.
“Ziqing?”
Ai Ziqing was startled. He tried to turn around but suddenly lost his balance. The world seemed to spin for a moment as Luo Mu’s long arm reached out, pulling him firmly into a tight embrace.
His back was wrapped in the soft quilt, and his nose was pressed against Luo Mu’s chest. He could even feel the slight rise and fall of Luo Mu’s chest as he breathed.
“Luo Mu?” Ai Ziqing tilted his head back, trying desperately to see the man’s face. “Are you awake? Let go of me. I’m still wearing my slippers.”
But Luo Mu had only woken for a fleeting second. Hearing him speak, instead of letting go, the man tightened his grip. He even nuzzled his head into the crook of Ai Ziqing’s neck.
As Ai Ziqing struggled slightly, Luo Mu’s low, muddled voice came muffled from his shoulder.
“Don’t move. I still want to sleep.”
Ai Ziqing bit his lip. The flush on his face deepened and began to spread downward, turning his neck a faint shade of pink.
If you want to sleep, then sleep! Why did you have to drag me in here with you?
He pushed against Luo Mu’s chest, but the man didn’t budge, nor did he show any reaction. The nearby breathing shifted from erratic back to steady. Luo Mu had actually fallen back to sleep immediately after pulling him into the bed.
How can someone be like this?
Despite his inward resentment, Ai Ziqing stopped struggling and no longer tried to leave. There was no use arguing with a person who was delirious from a high fever. Besides, he also…
Ultimately, Ai Ziqing gently kicked off his slippers and tucked his legs into the quilt. Whenever Luo Mu was sick in the past—whether he was on an IV or lying in a hospital bed—he always loved holding Ai Ziqing’s hand. It was as if by gripping his hand, Luo Mu could draw strength from him.
Now, that habit had simply become more intense.
Since things had already come to this, he decided to accept the situation and let Luo Mu hold him. However, while Luo Mu slept soundly, Ai Ziqing wasn’t sleepy at all. Instead, he felt more awake than ever, his mind racing with scattered thoughts.
The Shen Group’s annual meeting had already started. He wondered how things were going for Shen Ran. With Cheng Yi by his side, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
Then there was Luo Mu. A grown man who still didn’t know his own limits. In the past, Luo Mu hated going to the hospital for IVs; he would prefer to take some medicine and just tough it out. Because the Qingshan Orphanage’s finances were always tight, Luo Mu had wanted to lighten Ai Wenchuan’s burden so badly that he would stay silent and not even take medicine.
Ai Ziqing couldn’t help but whisper a complaint.
“You’re President Luo now. Why are you still refusing to go to the hospital? You’re not short on that kind of money anymore.”
It was true. Luo Mu could easily afford the hospital now. In fact, the scale of his donations to the orphanage in recent years had been enormous. These were simply old habits. Just like the way he was used to getting off at the West Station.
After an unknown amount of time, Ai Ziqing slowly reached out and wrapped his arm around Luo Mu’s waist. Since Luo Mu was fast asleep and he had nothing else to do, he closed his eyes and began to talk to himself.
“I thought I would talk everything out with you today. I waited for you so long, and then you went and got sick.”
“You really haven’t changed. Or perhaps, you never changed at all.”
“Why didn’t you tell me the reason you were leaving when we graduated from university?”
“Was it because you didn’t know how to say it, or did you think that even if you told me, I would never agree to it?”
At this point in his monologue, Ai Ziqing felt a sudden surge of grievance. Based on that logic, did Luo Mu view him as an unreasonable person? But if Luo Mu had explained it properly back then, surely he would have agreed, even if it hurt.
Actually, Ai Ziqing wasn’t 100% sure himself. Back then, he was destined to return to the orphanage to take over the heavy burden of being the director. Even if Luo Mu had told him the reason for not returning to F City, could he have accepted being separated from him?
Realizing this, Ai Ziqing felt a pessimistic sense of clarity. If saying it wouldn’t have mattered, then perhaps not saying it was also okay. People like him and Luo Mu really lived such complicated, twisted lives.
However, the rights and wrongs of the past no longer mattered. It was clear from the fact that Luo Mu came to find him that Luo Mu also regretted the choice he made back then.
Just like me.
Clinging to the past was meaningless. For him and Luo Mu, the present and the future were far more important. Perhaps because he knew Luo Mu was asleep, Ai Ziqing was able to speak his heart without any nervousness.
“I was so upset back then because of what you once said.”
You said you would never leave me. You said you would stay by my side forever as family.
That was the promise Luo Mu had made to him in their youth, and he had kept it in his heart ever since.
“But you broke your word, Luo Mu. In my eyes back then, you just left me and disappeared coldly without a word of explanation.”
“That was a huge blow to me. But as the years passed, I gradually began to understand what you meant back then.”
Money really was indispensable. Only with money could the people at the orphanage live a stable life.
“Luo Mu, regarding your insistence on leaving back then, I’ve actually forgiven you.”
“So, when you wake up, you’ll forgive my stubbornness from back then too, right?”
Good. He could consider this speech a rehearsal. When Luo Mu finally woke up and they truly opened their hearts to each other, he probably wouldn’t be as nervous.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, Luo Mu’s low, raspy voice sounded right in his ear.
