After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy! - Chapter 85
At this moment, Ai Ziqing couldn’t tell whether Luo Mu was simply asleep or already unconscious from the fever.
They had grown up together, and Ai Ziqing knew that Luo Mu’s health had never been as good as it looked on the surface.
Back then, even getting caught in a light drizzle would cause Luo Mu to fall ill.
Still, Ai Ziqing had never expected that after all these years after they had both become fully grown adults Luo Mu’s physical condition would still show no improvement.
If anything, it seemed worse than before.
Otherwise, how could he have fallen sick just from stepping out of the car to pick him up last night?
Thinking back to what happened that morning, Ai Ziqing let out a quiet sigh.
Even he found it hard to believe how the events had unfolded.
Because his mind was still preoccupied with Shen Ran, and after hearing what Luo Mu had said before leaving the night before, Ai Ziqing hadn’t slept much at all.
The night had felt endless. As soon as the faintest light appeared on the horizon, he got out of bed.
The annual event at Shen Corporation wasn’t until the afternoon, so there was no need to rush. Ai Ziqing got dressed and decided to go out for a walk.
Of course, he had already started using the new phone Luo Mu had bought him yesterday.
As usual, early mornings in K City were bitterly cold. The streets were nearly empty, and a thin layer of mist hung in the air, casting a sense of distant detachment over the whole city.
He didn’t want to bring his old phone with him again. If it shut off from the cold like before, it would be hard for anyone to reach him.
And if Luo Mu tried to call, he probably wouldn’t get through either.
With both hands in his pockets, Ai Ziqing walked quietly down the street. Though he felt a slight sense of relief, there was also a trace of disappointment in his heart.
He was relieved because the empty streets gave him a rare moment of solitude and space to breathe.
But he was disappointed… because he hadn’t run into Luo Mu when he left the hotel.
Ai Ziqing reminded himself that it was only six in the morning. Of course President Luo wouldn’t be standing outside like a fool waiting for him.
But then again, Luo Mu had said that he still cared about him… Maybe he was planning to call a bit later.
Ai Ziqing knew Luo Mu’s personality well. It wouldn’t be surprising if he offered to go with him to the Shen Corporation event.
Even after learning the full truth, Ai Ziqing still didn’t know how to respond to Luo Mu—not even after a full night had passed.
Should he get angry and blame Luo Mu for everything he’d done but never said? But the truth was, Ai Ziqing wasn’t completely innocent either.
Or maybe he should calm down and talk it through—finally lay everything out in the open?
As the sun rose and the fog began to clear, so did Ai Ziqing’s thoughts.
When Luo Mu showed up again, Ai Ziqing told himself, he would take that first step.
There was no way Luo Mu wouldn’t look for him.
Ai Ziqing believed that with absolute certainty.
But as time ticked by, and the hour of the Shen Corporation annual event drew near, Luo Mu still hadn’t appeared.
No one knocked on Ai Ziqing’s door. He began to grow uneasy.
Did Luo Mu not know the exact time? Was he simply running late… or had he decided not to come at all?
Ai Ziqing was afraid that if he left the hotel, Luo Mu might come by and miss him. But he couldn’t ignore Shen Ran either. In the end, torn between both, he forced himself to leave.
Luo Mu hadn’t lied—the hotel was only a few minutes’ walk from Shen Corporation.
The event was about to start. Standing in front of Shen Corporation’s grand entrance, Ai Ziqing knew he should go in.
But he hesitated.
Ai Ziqing had already lost track of how many times he’d checked the time on his phone. His eyes were filled with obvious anxiety and frustration.
Why, even now, hadn’t Luo Mu shown up behind him like he usually did?
Ai Ziqing turned around, but all he saw were a few Shen Corporation employees hurrying inside.
Maybe it was his appearance—both his looks and his clothing—that made him stand out. He didn’t quite match the formal, professional vibe of the company. A few employees glanced at him with curious or confused expressions.
Feeling uncomfortable under their gaze, Ai Ziqing lowered his head slightly.
He really should go inside now.
But still…
After hesitating for another moment at the entrance, he bit his lip and decided to call Luo Mu.
He figured he’d ask if Luo Mu was coming. After that, he’d go in and support Shen Ran.
The phone rang several times. No one answered.
Just as Ai Ziqing was about to give up and hang up, someone finally picked up the call—completely catching him off guard.
He was just about to speak, but realized that the voice on the other end didn’t belong to Luo Mu. Instead, it was a younger voice, hesitant and unsure.
“Hello? Is this Mr. Ai?”
“Uh… yes, speaking.”
“Mr. Ai, I know this might be sudden, but do you have a moment? Would you be able to come to President Luo’s home?”
You want me to go to Luo Mu’s home?
That really was a bit unexpected.
“Mr. Ai, President Luo has a high fever that isn’t going down. His condition seems to be getting worse. If you can, please come.”
Ai Ziqing had mentally prepared himself to have a proper conversation with Luo Mu.
But going straight from cold silence to… showing up at someone’s house?
A home was a private, personal space—especially for someone like Ai Ziqing, who was naturally sensitive and reserved.
He didn’t easily open up to others, and he also didn’t like stepping into other people’s private worlds.
He was about to refuse.
But then he heard those words—“high fever that isn’t going down.” His mouth opened slightly, and after a moment of hesitation, he let out a soft sigh.
By the time Ai Ziqing arrived at Luo Mu’s home, an hour had passed.
The door was opened by Luo Mu’s secretary.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Ai.”
The secretary clearly hadn’t expected Ai Ziqing to look the way he did. For a moment, there was a flicker of surprise in his eyes—almost admiration—at the sight of Ai Ziqing’s long hair and refined appearance.
“Where’s Luo Mu?”
Even Ai Ziqing didn’t realize how worried and urgent his voice sounded.
“President Luo is this way. Please follow me.”
Luo Mu’s home was large. Ai Ziqing followed the secretary through several hallways and turns before arriving at a spacious room that was completely shaded from light.
The secretary stopped at the doorway.
“I came to deliver some documents today and found President Luo running a high fever. I tried to wake him, but he wouldn’t respond. Even then, he kept murmuring a name…”
The secretary’s voice grew quieter, as if what he was about to say carried extra weight.
Ai Ziqing couldn’t help but ask, “Whose name was he saying?”
The secretary replied softly, “He was saying… Ai Ziqing.”
