After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy! - Chapter 84
“Cheng Yi, Cheng Yi, wasn’t I amazing today? Super cool, totally unbeatable! I turned the whole situation around and saved the day. Did you see the look on Chen Xu’s face when his plan failed? He was so frustrated, it was absolutely hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing.”
Who knows what on earth Chen Xu was thinking, having the audacity to come after the Shen Corporation.
It was outrageous, completely reckless.
But today, surprisingly, Cheng Yi didn’t hold back his praise.
“Yes, you really did a great job. Maybe you didn’t notice, but I barely said anything because I saw that you were perfectly capable of handling three people on your own.”
Only then did Shen Ran realize that during the entire situation, it was basically him taking the lead. Cheng Yi hadn’t said a single word in defense.
Shen Ran had no doubt that if Cheng Yi had stepped in, he would have verbally crushed Chen Xu, possibly even made him cry, question his life choices, and lose all confidence.
Cheng Yi was known for being brutally sharp with words.
But he had stayed quiet because he believed in him.
Still…
“You actually praised me?” Shen Ran looked genuinely surprised. “Wait a minute, Cheng Yi, did you really just compliment me? Am I seeing things? Did I hear that right? Is the world suddenly changing into something I don’t recognize?”
Before he could finish, Cheng Yi lightly tapped him on the head.
While keeping his eyes on the road, Cheng Yi calmly pulled back his hand and smiled slightly.
“You’re not seeing things, and you’re not deaf. You’re just not thinking very clearly. Besides, you’ve been hanging around me for so long. You should’ve picked up a few of my sarcastic tricks by now. If you couldn’t even handle someone like Chen Xu, that would really be a disaster.”
Not thinking clearly…
“Ow!” Shen Ran held his head, clearly annoyed but strangely comforted. “Now that’s more like it. I’d actually feel weird if you didn’t throw in a few sarcastic remarks.”
Cheng Yi gave him a knowing look. “So, you enjoy getting scolded? Shen Ran, how come I never noticed you had that kind of unusual preference before?”
“Huh?”
Shen Ran froze. Once he understood what Cheng Yi was implying, he quickly slid away from him, looking alarmed and shaking his head vigorously.
“No, no, no! Cheng Yi, President Cheng! I’ve always been a decent and proper person. I don’t have any strange preferences. I don’t like being yelled at or hit. That’s not my thing at all, not something I would ever be into.”
He imagined how things would be later that night after the lights went out—getting lectured while something else happened—and the thought made him shiver.
“Oh? So you’re not into that?” Cheng Yi raised an eyebrow. “I always thought Boss Shen enjoyed that kind of activity.”
“Why would I be into something like that?” Shen Ran looked completely exasperated. “What made you think I had any interest in that kind of thing?”
“Didn’t you just say that you feel off when I don’t make sarcastic comments? Sounds to me like you enjoy being scolded.”
Shen Ran was speechless for a moment. “I mean… that’s…”
“And more importantly,” Cheng Yi continued, now with a very meaningful look on his face.
“Didn’t you call me ‘Daddy’ with so much emotion not too long ago? Over and over, like you really meant it. It was so enthusiastic it nearly messed with my head.”
Cheng Yi clearly hadn’t forgotten what that felt like.
“What? Daddy? That never happened!” Shen Ran immediately tried to deny it.
But just as the words left his mouth, he suddenly remembered what had happened.
He had needed a favor from Cheng Yi, and when Cheng Yi jokingly suggested something, he had gone along with it…
Shen Ran’s face turned bright red.
At the time, all he wanted was to get through the situation smoothly. He was used to joking around with friends like that, so he hadn’t thought much of it. Without even realizing, he had said it—and not just once, but several times.
At the time, he had been so focused on saying it that he completely forgot how suggestive the word “Daddy” could actually sound.
Realizing that continuing to talk would only make things worse, Shen Ran decided to stop speaking altogether. He chose silence as a way to move past the awkward moment.
Instead, he quietly set the GPS in the car. During the annual event earlier, he had taken a bit of time to pick out a restaurant for dinner tonight.
Cheng Yi, clearly in a good mood, smiled slightly. He didn’t continue teasing Shen Ran, whose face was now as red as a tomato. He simply followed the GPS directions and turned the car around.
The engine roared as the car sped onto the overpass, heading toward a restaurant on the other side of the city.
You don’t press a desperate opponent. Even a rabbit will bite when cornered. Cheng Yi knew that provoking Shen Ran too much would only backfire, so he let it go.
However…
As Shen Ran scrolled casually through his phone, he suddenly looked up in confusion.
“Cheng Yi, I feel like we forgot something today.”
“What is it?”
Shen Ran didn’t answer right away. He frowned deeply, trying to remember. His mind spun in circles.
Finally, he turned to Cheng Yi with a stiff expression.
“Did we forget about Brother Xiao Ai and Luo Mu?”
Cheng Yi’s eyebrow twitched. “You’re right. We really did forget them.”
Did Ai Ziqing and Luo Mu even attend the Shen Corporation’s annual event?
If they had, then where were they now?
Shen Ran suddenly remembered that everyone had seen Chen Xu when he made his appearance. If Ai Ziqing had really been there, he probably would have been losing his mind the moment Chen Xu walked toward Shen Ran with that look of affection.
Still, the question remained—had Ai Ziqing and Luo Mu actually shown up?
Neither of them had sent him a single message or made a phone call all day.
Despite that, Shen Ran wasn’t too worried.
Deep down, he believed that Luo Mu was a dependable and steady person. As long as Luo Mu was with him, Brother Xiao Ai wouldn’t just vanish.
In fact, maybe the two of them had already reconciled.
Now that everything had been laid out between them, perhaps they were off having a romantic candlelit dinner. That would explain why they didn’t feel the need to show up and support him at the company event.
After all, grown-up matters shouldn’t need a child like him to worry.
With that comforting thought, Shen Ran relaxed a little.
“Cheng Yi, can you drive a bit faster? I’m starving.”
“I’ll fly you there next time in a helicopter.”
“Stop messing around! Wait… you’re not serious, are you?”
“I am. I really have one.”
Shen Ran closed his eyes with exaggerated peace. “Alright, that’s enough. Don’t talk anymore. I’m the only fallen young master in the world.”
What Shen Ran didn’t know was that, as of now, Ai Ziqing and Luo Mu had not reconciled.
And more importantly—Luo Mu was far from being reliable.
The two of them weren’t out having some fancy candlelit dinner.
Luo Mu was sick.
At this very moment, in Luo Mu’s home—
Ai Ziqing sat quietly at the edge of the bed, carefully folding a cold, damp towel.
He sighed softly, then gently placed the towel on Luo Mu’s forehead.
Luo Mu’s face was pale, his eyes tightly shut. The tension in his furrowed brows showed how much pain he was in.
His breathing was heavy and ragged, each exhale burning with heat.
Yes—Luo Mu had a fever.
And it was a high fever that wouldn’t go down.
