- Chapter 103 - I’m Not Your Brother, I’m Your Husband
Once this wild idea surfaced in his mind, Shen Ran couldn’t sit still.
Opening an escape room business wouldn’t just make money; it would give this bunch of folks something to do. It was a win-win for everyone!
The more he thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed. Shen Ran decided to put the plan into action immediately.
Finding a storefront, handling renovations, making the floor plans—the entire operation was incredibly smooth.
Cheng Yi also seemed to think the idea was quite good. Not only did he refrain from interfering, but he even found professionals to help promote the upcoming escape room.
[The most terrifying and thrilling escape room you’ve ever played won’t even compare to a tenth of this one!]
[Want an immersive thrill? Want that spine-chilling sensation? On Month X, Day X, at the ‘So Scary’ Escape Room, be there or be square!]
After Shen Ran read the promotional copy, he felt a bit speechless. “This is so arrogant. It even puts down our competitors. I feel like we’re definitely going to get scolded.”
“Being doubted is inevitable. Even if people question it, your shop will gain an extremely high level of attention. Once it officially opens, those who are curious or want to debunk the hype will flock here, and the goal will be achieved.”
When Cheng Yi said this, Shen Ran felt that Cheng Yi was more like a pure businessman than he was.
“Cheng Yi,” Shen Ran said sincerely, “I feel like you should just be the store manager for this place.”
To this, Cheng Yi’s reply was: “I wouldn’t dare. I don’t have the ability to deal with spirits. Certain tasks are best left to Ran Ran to shoulder the heavy responsibility.”
A few days later, the escape room officially opened.
Shen Ran had put a lot of effort into the shop. The interior layout was realistically horrifying, the audio equipment was top-of-the-line, and the hired employees were all well-trained.
Even if it had ended there, it would have already provided a terrifying and immersive experience, not to mention his final trump card.
“Xingyuan, and you three, are you ready?”
In a deserted spot backstage, Shen Ran stood with his hands behind his back, giving a final pep talk.
“Ready!”
“Very good. Now tell me, what is your job?”
“Our job is to create the atmosphere! To let everyone know that the ‘So Scary’ Escape Room lives up to its name!”
The four voices were loud and clear, but no one could hear them except Shen Ran.
“Excellent! And our slogan is?”
“A small scare is pleasant, a big scare is taxing! Don’t scare the staff, keep it in check!”
“Very good!” Shen Ran clapped. “Xia Xingyuan should have already handed out the work phones to you. Contact me by phone if anything happens. Now, get to work!”
In the past few days, Shen Ran had taken the time to visit the crematorium with Cheng Yi to “burn” a phone for each of them, including Xia Xingyuan.
Of course, Shen Ran didn’t forget to send one to Huang Yiheng as well.
After being idle for who knows how long, Xia Xingyuan and the others had undergone several days of special employee training. Now, they were all rubbing their hands in excitement.
With a cheer, they each dashed off toward their designated zones.
“It looks like Boss Shen’s employees have high work morale.”
Cheng Yi walked over from the side, holding up his phone.
“You’re teasing me again!” Shen Ran reached out irritably to cover the camera lens. “They’re all gone, you don’t need to keep filming everything.”
“I have a feeling that during this period, your escape room is going to make you a fortune.”
Shen Ran was truly himself; give him a little sunshine and he’d beam. He immediately became smug.
“Right? I think so too. Since the opportunity is rare, does President Cheng want to take a walk inside with me and see how it feels?”
As if guessing that Cheng Yi might refuse, Shen Ran added another sentence before Cheng Yi could speak:
“Surely the great President Cheng isn’t actually afraid of ghosts? Oh my, that would be quite something. Next time I go to your company, I’ll have to bring two pounds of sunflower seeds and have a good chat with your employees.”
He saw Cheng Yi’s expression turn helpless and amused. “Afraid of ghosts? How funny. I know you’re just using reverse psychology.”
Hmph, I’ve been seen through.
“But I am indeed quite curious about the quality of your escape room. Let’s go, Boss Shen. I hope you and your shop can actually scare me.”
“Yay! Come with me, the entrance is this way!”
Shen Ran cheered and pulled Cheng Yi along.
He didn’t forget to charge Cheng Yi for a ticket, claiming that “even brothers should keep clear accounts.”
Cheng Yi paid the money but gave a very serious reminder: “I’m not your brother, I’m your husband.”
The two of them followed the flow of the attraction, and both remained very calm.
Shen Ran was calm because he had played these things many times before and had developed an immunity.
Furthermore, the biggest selling point—the spirit atmosphere crew he sent in—were all visible to him, so naturally, he wouldn’t be afraid.
As for Cheng Yi… Cheng Yi was even more composed.
Being in a relationship with Shen Ran and knowing all of Shen Ran’s little secrets, it would be truly ghostly if Cheng Yi were afraid of such things.
Before entering the room, they had even specifically put on wristwatches that could monitor their heart rates in real-time. After coming out of the exit, Shen Ran couldn’t wait to check the results.
He discovered that from start to finish, neither of their heart rates had exceeded 120.
“A match made in heaven, truly a match for each other. President Cheng, not bad, not bad at all!” Shen Ran swayed his head.
Cheng Yi cooperatively patted Shen Ran’s head. “Boss Shen isn’t bad either, not showing a hint of fear.”
Shen Ran muttered in his heart that of course he wouldn’t be afraid. After all, he had personally supervised the construction of this shop; he knew exactly where every mechanism was hidden.
From time to time, several screaming young people would emerge from the exit. They ran out quickly, panting heavily, looking shaken but discussing the situation inside with excitement.
“Ahhh! So scary and so thrilling! This place is so fun, I love it!”
“Usually, Brother He looks like he’s too cool for school, but turns out he’s afraid of ghosts! Hahaha, he almost cried when he came out just now! I saw it!”
“During the last level, Brother He kept holding my hand, he was practically shrinking into my arms! Brother He, you don’t have a crush on me, do you?”
“Shut up.” The man addressed as Brother He thinned his lips. “This map was just so-so. Let’s go buy tickets again and see if the next one is more terrifying.”
He looked calm and indifferent, but in reality, his two long legs were shaking like noodles.
Shen Ran saw this scene and roared with laughter internally.
Trying his best not to laugh at his customers and confirming that the opening day was indeed booming with people eager to try it out, Shen Ran and Cheng Yi left the premises.
Now that the shop had successfully opened, he could rest easy.
Now, he and Cheng Yi had something else to do.
It was what Huang Yiheng had mentioned to him before, it was finally time to visit the rooftop of the Shen Group building.
